Populated areas, Freya shuddered as her bare feet soundlessly hit the ground beneath her as she walked up to the cafe, for once craving a warm drink and a place to just sit down and rest for awhile. She had been traveling at a good rate to get here, a place she had decided to settle into for awhile. Most places she had been through were mostly human populated and it made her slightly uncomfortable, plus she had more than a few outbursts that she was almost too embarrassed to show herself in those areas anymore. Sighing lightly to herself as she opened the door and walked in, the smell of teas, coffee and sweets hit her nose, and it was intoxicating, but the noise also was nearly unbearable. Flattening her ears back against her head, she suppressed another sigh and stood in line to order. Freya had come to this place after hearing it was highly populated by different species much like herself. It was almost a no brainer that she came here, but she still hoped to find maybe someone else like her. It was doubtful though, she couldn't pick out any real trail in scent, but that's also because all the different smells mixed together threw her off.
Finally it being her turn to order, she got a hot tea and a slice of cheesecake. She didn't care what hour of the day it was, she could always eat cheese cake. Paying for her order, her tail flicked in irritation as the person stared at her, blatantly. She couldn't be the first creature this person has ever seen that's like her. A low growl started in her chest but she gritted her teeth and walked to the other end of the counter to wait for her order. Now skeptical of the others in the shop, she scanned the people around her with sharp eyes. At least they had the good graces not to be overly obvious they were looking at her. Huffing gently when her order was called out, she grabbed her food and drink and quietly sat down at a far wall, taking a large bite from her cheesecake first before taking a sip of tea. To her surprise and delight, they were both quite good! Her ears perked with her lightened mood and her tail swayed slowly in her joy, it was a nice relief after the irritation a few moments prior.

❛It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one.
We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up.
And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know.
It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is.
Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.❜

▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇

I'm feeling indifferent. || I'm speaking to a stranger. || I'm wearing the usual || I have $200 on me and $800 stashed in the bank. || I have feelings for no one.

▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇

Pulling into the empty parking spot after having round the area for the past fifteen or twenty minutes, Rigel heaved a quiet breath of both frustration and relief, briefly wondering just what on earth people were still doing out so late, though he couldn’t put the blame on anyone. He was just the same, driving out for a breath of fresh air, having been overwhelmed by the heavy silence of his own home, that reminded him both of his faults, and his loss. He stepped out of the car, fumbling the depths of his pockets for his silver lighter before he reached up to light the end of his cigarette that hung loosely from his pale lips. He took a long drag, letting the heat linger within the depths of his throat momentarily before he released his breath in a quiet, and slow exhale.

Golden hue scanned his dark surroundings, lit only by the yellow streetlights glowing like fireflies within the darkness of the night. He rolled his sleeves up, dark inks of his tattoos peeking underneath the folds of the white, semi crinkled fabric. And he would find himself falling in a fit of momentary light hearted chuckles when his tattoos reminded him of the rainy days in France, where his sister would fill in the blank spots of his tattoos with the magnificent colours of the magic markers he had bought for her. He took another drag, this time staring at the gold ring that settled against his left ring finger, worn, yet still gleamed like polished gold beneath the flickering lights of the cafe's signboard.

While it took countless toll on his heart to be reminded of their failed marriage, of the tragedy he had claimed to be the cause of his own negligence, Rigel could not find the will in himself to remove his ring. He could not find the will to take it off and stuff it into the ring box settling neatly within the drawer of his nightstand. He could not move on, without knowing if she had been in a better place, if she had felt even the slightest bit of anger and hatred for him. He sucked in a breath, letting out a puff of smoke to the side, away from the entrance. But he would never get his answer now, would he? Then again, with the way.. what's his name.. Iris? With the way he claimed he could see the shadow of a woman, with a tight noose around what looked to be a crooked neck, Rigel knew immediately that he could see her, that her ghost still followed him around. Though whether it had been her, or the form his insecurities had taken, Iris did not say much, leaving the young man standing in the walkway of the downtown bar feeling absolutely pathetic, and naked.

He'd take continuous drags, dropping his cigarette to the ground when he took the final puff, putting it out with the heel of his shoes before he walked into the coffee shop, praying to lord that the smell of cigarette smoke lingering on his clothes doesn’t bother the customers. ”Two hot cups of cafe latte, please.” he answered, drawing his wallet out from his back pocket, ”Ah, no. Takeaway, if you don’t mind.” he answered in a light-hearted tone, laced mildly with exhaustion and weariness as he passed the cashier a fifty dollar note.”

While he was guided to wait at the collection counter, a particular appearance caught his attention from the corner of his eye. He cast a swift glance over, striking hues momentarily brushing past -first- her smooth locks of pale white that fell loosely past her back, like the smooth flowing water of a waterfall, cerulean eyes that both contrasts, and mixes into her pale colours, curtained by lush lashes of snow white. She was what he had been briefly paying attention to, until his eyes fell onto the dessert on her plate.

”Oh, miss- would you mind if I ask what that is?” he asked, gesturing to her plate. ”I’m trying to get something for my brother to snack on, you see. He tends to skip meals.” he heaved a quiet sigh, lifting a hand to rub awkwardly against the back of his neck.

It probably should have been considered embarrassing by how much she enjoyed her food and drink, but Freya's adoptive parents had taught her not to be embarrassed about enjoying the things she loved, and she was certainly in love with this cheesecake and tea. This shop had just earned a new regular, despite that employees obvious staring at first. That was something she honestly should have been used to by now. Sipping her tea gently, she cleared her throat and tried to compose herself. Getting a little excitable over small things, not something she wanted tacked onto her name first coming into this town. Setting the cup down, she swirled a nail in it absentmindedly as she looked around the shop, taking in more than the people this time, she took in the actual look.
Honestly, it made her frown gently as if felt so, so, metal and cold. The building was warm and smelt wonderfully, but it was just absent of real life, something that she had learned to love and recognize living out in the wilderness for so long. Maybe that was why she always struggled within buildings and towns. Sighing gently, making a new life here was going to be quite the adjustment, but she had to start somewhere. While she looked around, she caught notice of a man walking in, and almost as soon as his first foot hit the floor, her nose crinkled with the smell of the cigarette smoke, but soon relaxed after she had adjusted to it. That was the problem with heightened senses, she smelt just about everything. She could also pick up a scent that for lack of better words, seemed deep, and dark, warm like fire. He definitely wasn't just human, but she couldn't place exactly what he was. Turning her eyes away, she shrugged absently to herself, it's not like it is any of her business, just a simple curious feeling.
Taking another sip of her tea, she eyed her food, wanting to devour it all in one go, and savor it at the same time. Her long fingers swiftly went to her hair, braiding long strands deftly and without much attention given to them, obvious that she was well practiced in this movement. It was either from being restless, or a way to keep her mind busy even though it didn't take much thought, she wasn't entirely sure why she did this all the time. Her hands stopped mid-braid, still tangled in her hair as her ear flicked towards the approaching stranger, his voice and question directed at her caught her a little off guard. Odd, people didn't usually ever approach her first.
At his approach, Freya could feel his presence was even more demanding, strong, she fought internally to try and identify what exactly it could be that he was that made him feel so, intimidating in a way. She also struggled to find the correct words to describe it, but it wasn't like she was trying to explain it out loud for anyone. Through her quick scan over, her was even taller up close and if she stood, he'd likely stand a full foot over her. Well, she had always been small, but she'd never seen it quite like this. He had strong features and while looking at his face, she got caught on the brilliant color of the one eye that was showing, the other covered in a patch. She didn't pay much attention to the patch though, but she had to bite her lip gently to remind herself to stay present, it was the color that was just so interesting to her.
Leveling her blue eyes on the man finally, trying not to ogle him anymore, she was surprised that the smell of cigarette hadn't given him away before she had looked, but she hadn't been paying enough attention to realize it at first. After a moment of his posed question, her ears twitched as she realized she hadn't responded yet, still struck with the idea someone actually talked to her. Looking down at her plate, she smiled gently and looked back to him, her sharp canine teeth showing a bit, "Ah, of course. It's cheesecake." She spoke lightly, trying to combat the usual stillness of her face that was so off-putting to strangers. Crossing her leg and watching him carefully, she noticed that he didn't really stare, he looked at her directly, and only her face, not all of her to wonder what she is. It was, a very refreshing feeling.
"How kind of you. Your brother is lucky to have family looking out for him." The smile on her lips grew more as she thought about home, her parents always chased after her to eat properly, especially when she had first come to them. A scrawny, sick and dirty child, they had brought her back to health without as much as a slight complaint. "If I may suggest it, it's perfect for a sweet lover who doesn't want something, overly sweet." Tapping a nail to her chin, she laughed lightly to herself, "Though I suppose that doesn't make much sense. But I highly recommend it." Resting her chin in her palm, she took a bite of her cheesecake, a little more restrained now than she was earlier, considering she had temporary company. "Not a healthy habit, skipping meals.." She sighed to herself, her own stomach fully aware of the effects of skipping meals, though whether they were by choice or forced was something she didn't think about at the time.

Opening the door soundlessly, Damen stepped inside the cafe and closed the door again before he turned to look at the place before him. After he finished his e-mails and decided to have a look around, this cafe was the first place he wanted to see. He did like his occasional coffee, though he wouldn't drink it a whole lot. When he did though, the shadow demon wanted the coffee to be a good one. The first thing he noticed as he had stepped in was that the scent of coffee was heavy here, but it was a good kind of scent and it brought a small smile to Damen's features. After taking in the interior (and considering it quite a bold one to use for a coffee cafe) he walked towards the counter and sat himself down on one of the chairs. The brewer was quite quick to come to the new customer, that pleased Damen. It meant this was a good place to visit from time to time, perhaps more regular depending on the taste of the coffee.

It would seem the service was a quick one already. Damen was handed a menu chart and he looked over the list of products. Much to his surprise, coffee wasn't all they offered. This made this an even more likely place the man would visit for a drink. What absolutely tide him over though, was when he saw one of the snacks. Slice of pie generally meant apple pie, his favorite! "Well that settles it." he said calmly, his voice gentle and perhaps shining through some of the democracy that he was often caught up in with his work. "Could I please have a Cappuccino and a slice of Apple Pie?" he made his order and the man nodded, leaving Damen to wait for a while.

Since it might be a bit before he would have his pie slice, the man turned a bit so he could look at the customers that were in the establishment at this very moment. A lot more could be learned about a place as this if you paid attention to their clientele. Who they let in, who they served, how they treated their customers all round. As he did so he noticed two people in conversation with each other, the female looking quite unusual. At least for what he had expected around here. Damen dealt with all sorts of people in his line of work. After all children were children, it didn't matter where they came from or what they were, as long as they would enjoy the automated toys he made. As such he wasn't really surprised by any kind of creature. Besides that, Damen was to polite to stare, so his gaze didn't rest on them for very long, nor would he interrupt their conversation.

It didn't take long for his order to be served though and with a soft "Sir" he was made attend to the fact his order arrived. Damen turned back to the clerk and smiled. "Thank you that is very fast." he complimented the man and they told him the price. The shadow demon paid them the $6.75 and took up his drink and snack, walking to an empty table nearby. It wasn't like he had any other arrangements for today, so his afternoon would be blissfully free. It had been a while since Damen had been enjoying actual free time. Once he sat down, Damen gently stirred the Cappuccino and took a sip to try. He smiled as he tasted the rich flavor and took another sip before placing it down so it could cool and ate his apple pie first. It all tasted delicious. It was definitely promising for a more frequent visit.

Mark sighed a bit as he lifted the front of his jacket and aired himself out a bit, he wasn't the biggest fan of summer heat. Still though he simply ignored it and pushed on, he'd had a nasty relapse last night and after chatting on the phone with his therapist he apparently was making progress? He was told not to let it discourage him but it was hard to not let it get to him, however Mark would try his best to just push forward with his day. And of course the first thing he needed was coffee and lots of it since he hardly slept last night. Thankfully though he'd seen a nice place a couple of times that he'd been meaning to check out since he moved to Solei. Eventually the young man arrived at his destination and opened the doors, unfortunately there apparently was a long line of people waiting at the counter and he felt his anxiety rise a bit as a result. However he took a deep breath and repeated what his therapist told him, there was nothing to fear from crowds of people, they're just people like him! With that thought in his head he'd walk up and wait in line as one person after another got made and received their orders until it was finally his turn. Mark looked over the menu for a moment and glanced up for a moment before immediately looking back down to the menu in his hands "Um...a l..large coffee please...and a...slice of cheesecake...." Mark also knew that he'd need some kind of food in him after skipping dinner last night as well, even if he wasn't actually hungry. Eventually his order came and he paid the price before turning around and a look of sheer horror came over his eyes. Most of the seats and tables were occupied by at least one person. The soft chatter among each table made Mark want to just throw his things away and walk out the front door. But he repeated his therapists words once more, people were people. But that was the problem. Still though Mark knew that he needed to deal with it instead of running away so he looked around for a moment to see what tables had an open seat. So far there was one table with a ground of girls around his age sitting there giggling and talking amongst themselves, absolutely not. He knew better than to try and sit with girls, his experience in High School made him learn the hard way when he tried once. Finally his eyes landed on a slightly older man who was sitting alone, well. Here goes nothing. With that he approached the table and kept his eyes staring at literally anything besides the man before him "H..hey...um..the place is..packed so could I, you know..sit here?" he managed to force out as panic threatened to overtake him. How Mark wasn't trembling right now was a miracle in and of itself, maybe his therapist was right? Maybe he was improving. The thought did encourage him a little bit.

After he finished his last bite of the apple pie, Damen softly slid the empty plate a bit away from him, though not to far, it wouldn't do to claim the entire table. Especially after how the amount of customers picked up about now. It was interesting to silently watch them from where he sat, though he wouldn't let himself look around to much. This wasn't a zoo for his enjoyment after all. Instead of keeping a look around the cafe, Damen took off his long coat revealing a white thin blouse and folded it a bit before placing it on a chair right next to him. If anyone needed the seat for whatever reason, he could always remove it. The shadow demon wasn't even really sure why he had put it on in the first place. It was definitely to warm for it. Placing his Cappuccino in front of him and giving it another idle stir, he was pulled from his thoughts in slight solitude by a voice nearby.

Damen looked up upon hearing the voice and at the young man standing before him. The one that had spoken seemed slightly uneasy with how they carried themselves. He could tell because he still remembered it well from the time where he had to conduct interviews to find his employees. Avoiding to look at him and how the slight hint of panic sounded in the other's voice through stuttering were all signs. Damen gave a friendly smile and nodded. "But of course, there is enough room at the table." he replied calmly and picked up his coat just in case the other wanted to sit right there. "And I would welcome the company. I don't know anyone here yet." he allowed himself for admittance. Perhaps it would take a little bit of the edge if they knew Damen was about as unlikely to just engage with other people out of nowhere.

He watched them at times sure, but he would only approach someone if he was certain he wouldn't interrupt them. It was just like Damen to try and be considerate of or try to help people he had scarcely met. And it helped him as well. It would be good to meet his fellow Soleileans, since he would live here from now on. "My name is Damen." he offered his name and took a sip of his Cappuccino as he waited for the other to recover themselves. It wasn't the shadow demon's first encounter with nervous people, at least that was what he guessed the other was. After all he didn't know them well enough to know about their terror of places like this. All he could do was look at how they behaved and listen to their voice as they spoke. Did people even still introduce themselves when they sat down with someone? Damen had to admit that he had spend an awful lot of time among the higher classes to even remember well how it was when meeting with regular people. Not that he minded about classes as much.

Mark would openly breath a sigh of relief when the other man was willing to open a seat for him by moving his jacket. Normally Mark would have taken a seat as far from the other man as possible so not to disturb him but now he felt obligated to take the seat beside him since he moved his own coat "Thanks..." he replied quietly as the young man would take his seat, all the while keeping his gaze downward on his cheesecake. Meeting new people was still so hard and he didn't want to just outright introduce himself, the other guy probably wouldn't give a damn about it. However when he spoke about how he didn't know anyone in town yet Mark would admittingly feel just a small bit better. The other man was more than likely not going to make any comments towards him thankfully it seemed. The calm way he spoke also did help ease his nerves quite a bit as most people generally seemed irritated by him, at least that's how Mark saw it. With the exception of his one...acquaintance Hope but that was just someone who he gamed with for awhile, that was it. Mark would just pick up his fork when the other man introduced himself as Damen and Mark would finally lift his grey gaze to meet Damen's for a moment before the flicked back down skittishly "I..I'm Mark...nice to meet you..." the nineteen year old forced himself to look up at the other man and offer a small smile before quickly shoving a piece of the cheesecake into his mouth before taking a long drink of his black coffee. What should he do? Damen seemed at least a bit interested in making conversation if he introduced himself but what should Mark say?! Mark didn't want to say anything to offend the other man but he was utterly clueless, at least when he met Hope at the arcade they were able to talk about games but here? He was clueless. Finally Mark glanced up and out the window for a moment before looking back down "Uh..nice weather..." even he was disappointed in that one, talking about the weather? It wasn't even that nice, it was hot outside and he was cooking in his grey jacket, thankfully though the air conditioning was at least helping him cool down. He'd then run a hand through his steel blue hair before sighing a bit "Sorry...just..ignore me..." Mark spoke quietly as he was more than fine for the other man to ignore his existence, he couldn't blame him. He probably was just being polite when introducing himself.

                                                              Wealth: $1,993

                                                              --:::------::------------------->⛥<--------------------::------:::---

It was quite clear, at least for Damen with his experience, to see that they were out of their comfort zone. But he didn't think much of it. After all the demon was unknown to them and they eyed pretty young. He had moved his jacket purely because it seemed the right thing to do at the current time. So when the other took the seat, Damen just thought it had been a good call. Even when they sat down they seemed unable to look at Damen. They looked so vulnerable. But instead of getting annoyed with the behavior, the man just felt more compelled to stay open for conversation, yet not force it upon the boy. If they would answer him that was good, if not it was fine too. It was often best to let them talk when they felt alright to do so.

His experience with interviews had taught Damen that trying to make the other talk without feeling ready, they would stutter more, feel worse and even feel hunted and perhaps might even decide to run in terror. Though that was more when it came down to nerves alone. Yet it seemed a slight victory when his 'visitor' looked up and directly at him, fleeting as it might be. "Nice to make your acquaintance, Mark." he replied when his answer came. Soon after they would look away again, out of the window, and Damen couldn't help but smile gently. Was it really such a task? Perhaps it wasn't sheer nerves. But then Damen didn't want to just assume either. The man took another sip from his Cappuccino just as Mark decided to speak again.

Damen gave a light, short chuckle at the situation, though it wasn't a bad kind of chuckle. "I agree. It is nice weather. Though I wish I would have left my coat at home. I was not aware the temperatures could rise up this swiftly here however." he replied. The weather was as good a topic as any. It was readily available and something people definitely could share opinions about. Some might find the weather dumb, but Damen was not oblivious and he felt content that Mark was talking to him at all, a stranger by all accounts. When they spoke the latter however, Damen's brow raised a little and he shook his head, a gentle smile over his lips. "Is that what you want? I'm alright with not ignoring you and why would I? That would be poor form and it's actually quite refreshing." he offered them, his voice lighthearted. That said, he would wait with what Mark would reply, if anything.

Taking the time to drink his Cappuccino. If they truly wanted to just be ignored, far was it from Damen to deny them such a simple request. But in case it was something that was set upon them because they felt like they were a burden and any of the demon's words could help them relax a little, Damen would happily keep himself open to Mark for conversation. There was something about this young man that caused the man to wonder what they truly wished for. Not that he would be as bold as to ask. It wasn't really his business, being totally new to Mark.

Mark was trying his hardest at the moment to try and be as sociable as possible, he knew that his therapist wanted Mark to make for friends and acquaintances since it would apparently help build confidence. Easy for them to say, Mark felt like such a fool whenever he tried. He couldn't help it, he'd go out of his way and make an attempt to just make normal conversation but then he'd say one weird thing to someone and they'd be completely turned off to him. Thankfully however the other guy seemed to be either patient, very polite, or actually interested in speaking if his response was anything to go by. Mark actually chuckled a little bit before nodding his head at the other man's comment about Solei "Yeah..it caught me off guard too..a couple months ago" he would admit to the other man, granted it didn't seen to stop him from wearing an array of jackets and long sleeved shirts. Speaking of he pulled the sleeve of his jacket down a bit out of habit before cutting another slice of cheesecake off, enjoying the simple treat for a moment. Then just as soon as he finished speaking he instantly regret opening his mouth in the first place as the other man questioned Mark if he wanted to be ignored "N..no! It's...that's not what I meant..." he most certainly didn't want to be ignored! It was hard for Mark to speak as he soon fumbled around trying to explain what he'd meant before he took a deep breath to calm his nerves, Damen thought it was refreshing. That was something, right? "It's just that..well...I usually....uh...creep people out...and I..didn't want to bother you.." Mark finally forced out as he promptly glued his eyes to the table and took a sip of his black coffee. Speaking so openly about what he'd been told in the past wasn't such a problem for him, it was more so the memory and anxiety's that they caused was the issue. One guy mocked him and called him a freak, another girl he'd crushed on in High School called him a stalker creep when he found the guts to speak to her. His confidence in speaking to people were by all means rock bottom "Sorry...I'm just...weird as they say..." Mark smiled a little bit, hoping his tone made it clear that it was meant to be a joke. But then at this point it wouldn't be a stretch to say he could even mess that up as well.

Ah, a small victory as the other actually chuckled. Not that Damen was really aiming for victories, but it was good to see that Mark was perhaps feeling a little easier in his situation at the current moment. Yet for what they said about the weather seemed to oppose how he was fidgeting with his sweater. 'curious' was all that was able to cross Damen's mind before Mark suddenly seemed a little troubled by the demon's answer. A slight tilt of the head perhaps betrayed some confusion that the man felt, but he didn't have to wait long to be explained some about Mark's disposition. That sure explained a few things. It must feel awful to be treated as such.

Truly Damen couldn't really see why, to him Mark eyed like any other young adult trying to find their way in the world. Well, save for their nerves when talking, but even that didn't warrant creeping people out. Though he could well imagine how it was, after all demons weren't really often seen as something normal or right either. Most the time people just assumed Damen was fully human and that suited him fine to be honest. "I see. I fear people still are judgmental about things and people unknown to them." Damen replied, a slight hint of shadow falling over his features. It was all to familiar. Thankfully most people stopped judging Damen for what he was once it was proven he really was not trying to influence or possess their children through toys. And after that unfortunate start of his company, he had been keeping it under wraps he was not, in fact, human.

And after that his life and experiences had just been in the lift. Soaring ever higher until the demand had gotten so high, even Damen was getting overworked. It didn't take long for the man to go back to a calm and peaceful expression however. That was all in the past after all. And this was now, his company was thriving. "Well, you do not creep me out nor are you bothering me. You are different, I will admit to that freely. But that is not a bad thing." he added and smiled a bit. Yet the joke had not escaped him. "Are we not all weird to those that do not know us? Everyone has their own habits their own curious routines." As he spoke the demon was looking through the cafe before resting his amber gaze back on the boy before him. "You but have to look around you to see what I mean." he added and chuckled.

Mark slowly began to fidget under the other man's gaze as he seemed to eye him up once the younger man explained his reasoning for what he'd said. He simply couldn't help it, being sheltered his whole life and never getting to interact with anyone really messed him up in the long term. Not being able to have friends or any close bonds with people outside of the family was a curse in his opinion set upon him by a couple of awful parents. But that was in the past and now he just struggled from day to day to try and move on from then, it was slow pacing but he was doing it one step at a time. Finally when Damen spoke it caused Mark to finally look up at him for longer than a split second and slowly he nodded his head in total agreement, people were needlessly cruel sometimes "So...you know understand...?" he questioned quietly before quickly averting his gaze back down to the table as he cut off another slice of cheesecake, taking a bite of it and sipping his coffee once more. He didn't see how the other man could though if he were being honest, Damen looked all around perfectly normal and didn't even talk funny like Mark did. But then the look on his face when he did glance up spoke volumes about the other man, he definitely understood what Mark meant. There was no doubt now. He supposed that some things were just not visible to the naked eye, such a look was something he saw in the morning daily when he woke up to brush his teeth and get ready. With another sip of his coffee Mark would remain attentive as Damen continued to speak but he quickly perked up a bit as he looked up at the other man with a look of surprise. Mark really hoped the other man wasn't just saying that to be nice, he really did because the young man wanted to hug him for what was to him, such kind words. Suddenly a small smile grew on Marks face as he felt his confidence rise just a little bit, maybe he wasn't so bad anymore? Different, he liked the way that sounded for some reason "T..thank you..." he meant it genuinely, who would have guessed that a near total stranger would just make Mark's day with such a few simple words. It was almost pathetic how quickly he latched onto those words. But then Damen continued and Mark blinked a bit as he almost timidly turned his head just to quickly glance around the coffee shop. At first he didn't see what the other man was talking about but as he looked for an extra couple seconds he began to see more and more. One of the girls at the table he considered was laughing quite a bit and was snorting like a pig, the others just laughed with her. Then he saw another man dipping his wedge of cake into the coffee, also a bit weird and now he began to see what he meant. Finally Mark turned back and nodded a small bit and dared to make eye contact this time as he felt it was needed now "I guess you're right...we are all..a bit weird in our own ways...I guess..." he said with before the young man quickly averted his gaze back down to his meal as his stuttering became a bit less prevalent as his nerves began to finally calm down quite a bit. Mark was thankful for the others encouraging words Uh...So Damen...what do you eh..do for a living? finally now that Mark felt a bit more at ease he was able to actually ask a real question without it coming off nearly as forced.

Damen took his time as he spoke with Mark. Been strangers just moments before aside, they seemed to share at least one thing. Though for the demon that was in the past. He couldn't say with certainty it was the same for the other. Their nervous disposition would hint that perhaps it wasn't that long ago. That said they did seem a lot younger than Damen himself was and thus less experienced. Now knowing what bothered the young man, the demon just felt like he wanted to help them out. He was helped as well. Without some of his, still now, employees people would have never believed him and his company would never have gotten of the ground due to that prejudice. Perhaps this was why they met like this? On his very first day and his very first visit to the Moonbucks Cafe. Damen would be lying if he would say he didn't believe some people only crossed paths in one's life to help out.

If he could help out, even if it was just for today and this conversation, then he would do his best to do so. "You are very welcome." he said with a chuckle. Once Mark looked around when Damen spoke of the other people, the demon finished his Cappuccino before he leaned back in the chair he occupied, his one leg resting with the ankle casually on his other leg. Still he wasn't staring at the boy. Until they spoke, that was when Damen smiled and nodded slowly before crossing his arms a bit. Damen's stature was an overall calm one as he listened patiently to the other, though he was a little surprised to hear Mark's question. It was quite a casual one, it was a good kind of surprise.

The demon smiled a bit, leaning his head back for a moment. "Well, at the moment I have taken a somewhat passive position to what I do. But I own a company that makes automated toys for children. I moved here to take a step back since it became such a success it was getting to much to keep up with." he spoke truthfully, looking back at Mark about halfway through his reply. It wasn't a secret after all. And it wasn't like he was having a burnout, though perhaps he stepped back just in time to avoid one. "The need for some rest and distance is what brought me here. To what I can't describe aught else but a paradise." Of course it wasn't the full truth. Another reason had been the constant reminder of the one he left behind after the night following that attack, though her pursuers seemed defeated.

But that wasn't something he flaunted with. If only to keep it somewhat under wraps what he was, out of fear to be rejected or shunned once more. The man didn't allow these thoughts to occupy him for to long however. He had someone that was talking to him and he was quite enjoying the conversation. "What about you? Do you work, or are you still studying?" he asked curiously. Damen didn't know the other's age of course, but they looked around the phase in life where one might be on an university or extra College.

Mark was holding a normal conversation! He almost couldn't believe it, he knew that this was something his therapist would congratulate him on probably when he told them. They'd been trying to get Mark to open up and socialize with more people but he always found it hard, most people were just so intimidating to approach and speak too. Then there was that underlying fear of irritating someone or worse, being mocked that he never wanted to even put forth the effort to try. But thankfully Damen seemed a bit older and was almost calming to speak to with how patient and understanding he seemed, it was refreshing to say the least. Mark would end up cutting the rest of his cheesecake into two large chunks and ate the first as he carefully listened to what he did for a living and Mark blinked in total surprise when he explained that he owned a toy company which was beyond impressive to the nineteen year old "That's...so amazing!" he spoke with small smile on his face as the young man processed it all. So he was taking a step back "I could only imagine...it uh..must be pretty stressful..owning a company I mean..." honestly Mark couldn't even imagine the pressure that one must deal with to be a business owner, he'd probably crack and run away from it all. But then Mark was a bit of a coward in the first place so that wasn't too surprising to say the least. He then looked up at Damen for a moment and nodded his head a little bit "Well...this place really is...a great area..a real paradise..." of course excluding the horrible storm that happened it was a paradise but that was behind Soleil for now. Then of course Mark didn't really actually do anything besides sit in his house most of the time so there was that as well. However at the other man's inquiry about himself the young man could feel his face heat up a bit from embarrassment as he shook his head "N..neither..I um...I'm unemployed...my uh..parents are...giving me money to live here...paying the bills..and...well..yeah..." he wasn't proud of it and was even humiliated by it. There were plenty of people his age and even younger holding down a job and a place of his own and yet here he was still stuck living off of money given to him by the people he disliked "Heh...sad right?" a more self deprecating joke was made as an uncomfortable smile grew on his face and his eyes once more became locked onto the final bite of cheesecake as he stabbed it and ate it simply so he didn't say anything else stupid.
