Freak,Ravenclaw,Year 1

Freak stood up and pulled out her wand."Expecto Patronum!"She muttered thinking of the happiest memory she had.
A small streak of silver light burst from her wand, though it didn't turn into an animal, she was proud of it.

. Thinking . . Speaking . . Action .

Ginelle, trying to contain her excitement, took a few steps into the Defense against the dark arts classroom. She noticed that some students had been standing to practice some sort of spell, where a small jet of light was coming out of their wands here and there. Ginelle was so far behind. She came into the classroom and set her new book and things down on a desk. Then, after momentarilly watching, she walked up to the professor. "Hello, Professor. I'm new...Well, only to your class. Could you help me with this.. spell we are doing..?" She recognized her head of house immediately, and smiled internally. Hopefully he would help her get along in this class. She could only hope.

Kenneth watched from on high as a new edition to the class walked in. It was Ginny, he had remembered seeing her in the Gryffindor Common Room, as well as on the Quidditch House Team. "Sure I can help you Ginny." He said as he walked down the stone stairs that lead to his office. He lead her over to a nice open spot so she could hear as well as she him more properly. "Okay the spell I'm attempting to get the class to cast at the moment is called a Patronus Charm. It's some very advance magic, something that you would not attempt until your 5th year, but the class was excited about trying the spell out since it was brought up in our open forum lesson today. Now I bet your wonder what the Patronus Charm is right? A Patronus is a kind of positive force, and for the witch or wizard who can conjure one, it works something like a shield, very useful when defending yourself against Dementor's, Lethifolds and other Dark Creatures. In order for it to work, you need to think of a memory. Not just any memory, a very happy memory, a very powerful memory… Allow it to fill you up... lose yourself in it... then speak the incantation "Expecto Patronum."

After explaining to Ginny what they were doing, Kenneth pulled out his wand and gave her a practical demonstration of the spell. While concentrating on a powerful happy memory allowing it to fill him up he said the incarnation. "Expecto Patronum." Just then a large animal burst forth from his wand, it was shaped like a Dire Wolf it walked around Ginny and Kenneth before dissolving. "That Ginny was a fully corporeal Patronus. Those are the most powerful and require a lot of concentration as well as a powerful happy memory, and because of that are the most difficult to produce. The silver mist that you see your fellow classmates producing is another weaker form of the charm and will protect them to a degree."

Ginelle was taking all of this in very quickly, so hopefully she was getting everything right in her head. Patronus she kept thinking. This was going to be a very exciting class for her. Ginelle nodded as he told her about the memory being a happy memory - A powerful memory. She could think of many happy memories, but she didn't know if they would be powerful enough or not. She watched his demonstration, and the wolf walked around her, which made her smile. The Patronus spell seemed to give her a sense of happiness. Ginelle nodded as it disappeared. The question was going through her head though, so she thought she would ask. "Professor, why does this work against dark creatures?" Maybe the question had already been asked, but she wanted to know the answer for herself. While she waited, she took out her wand and started to think of a powerful memory.

Sparrow thought of a new memory. She wondered if it was good enough again. She thought hard about all the details and the thrill of that day with her entire family. It was a wonderful day and she held onto the memory. She raised her wand in front of her and yelled, "Expecto Patronum!!!!" She continued to concentrate and out sprung white mist. She noticed it was taking a shape and she concentrated even harder on the memory. Out sprung a magnificent sparrow. It reflected herself in so many ways even if that wasn't her real name. Not that anybody knew that it wasn't. It was beautiful and before she had much time to think about it the patronus had disappeared because she had lost her concentration when it appeared. She stood there shocked and surprised that she had actually manged it.

"The Patronus being a object of pure happiness, dark creatures have a hard time feeding off it as it where. For instance Dementor's spread depression and despair where they go. As Dementor's feed on happy memories to render humans to drown in sorrow and sadness, the Patronus acts as a shield of sort, of which the Dementor would try to feed off of instead - as the Patronus is comprised exclusively of positive feelings and cannot comprehend negative feelings, so the Dementor's influence cannot harm it." As Kenneth was explaining to Ginny why the Charm was used as protection from dark creatures he caught the site of Sparrow as she managed for a short time mind you, but none the less succeeded in casting a fully formed Patronus. "Very good Sparrow, very good indeed. Remember you must always concentrate on the memory once the Patronus is formed."

Sparrow nodded and said, "Alright." She had just been surprised the first time. She figured with practice it would get easier and she said, "Expecto Patronum" concentrating hard on that memory. SHe didn't want anybody to know about the memory. It was personal. Se thought hard and out came the sparrow again. She made it float around. It was beautiful and bit larger than an average sparrow. She figured that was a good thing and admired it.

Amelia Frances Joan

User ImageWith everyone focusing on that one happy memory, Amelia felt better than she'd ever felt. It was a high, that made her head feel fuzzy and her heart pound. She felt like she was floating, and for a moment, she just enjoyed the sensation forgetting about the spell. It took a great deal of effort to pull out of her reverie. In fact only Sparrow's loud voice did it. Blinking owlishly, she tried to grasp at her surroundings. She had to put this energy somewhere, so it was supposed to go into the spell, right? Taking up her wand, she cried, "Expecto Patronum!" Out of her wand came a shield of sorts. More of a funnel in shape, it maintained it's form while she pushed the energy through it. But then it flickered, fading away. She knew it was fake. This spell wasn't from her own power. And a part of her doubted she'd ever achieve the power she needed. But she didn't know how to block out the happiness surrounding her. Just like she wouldn't know how to block of the suffering she'd feel. That realization made her eyes widen. She needed to figure out the how prominent they were, if she couldn't defend herself against one. Shaking her head, she laughed at herself, like monsters like that were in London? She had nothing to fear. Still, she didn't know what to do about the spell. She had to be practicing it, even if it wasn't her energy. Points might be taken off for doing nothing. But why bother if it wasn't. Then she realized, she did have a goal. To at least see what her animal form was. The shield didn't resemble any sort of animal she knew, and she doubted it was what she wanted. But it was a start. The next time she tried the incantation, she was focusing too much on the result, not the happiness inside of her, so only bluish white wisps were released. It was a balancing act. Not getting lost in the happiness while focusing on casting the spell. She didn't seem to be having much luck with it.

Aludra Yvette...

Her first attempt at romance after so long, failed. Aludra frowned and lowered her wand after Kenneth's praising nod towards her and Meiko. Maybe he was too busy with the other students to notice her Patronus circling around his ankles. Either way, it made her a tad downhearted. Instead of pouting like she normally would, Aludra lifted her wand once more and cast her Patronus a second time, this time make it slyther on the walls and cieling as a possessed snake would.

Lena

Lena took a deep breath and again, tried to empty her mind of everything. She tried to fill it up with nothing but the memory of the time when she had met her grandmother. She was determined that that was the memory, as it was the happiest and most powerful and so she raised her wand once more. Expecto Patronum! She said with much determination. A silvery wisp formed and she was almost distracted at the hope of casting a patronus but quickly went back to the memory, concentrating hard. The wisp grew bigger, doubled, tripled, and then.. vanished. She sighed and wondered if she really had the power to cast it. It was, after all, usually learned in fifth year. Nevertheless she repeatedly attempted to cast a patronus, trying to build up confidence, determination, concentration and happiness.

Dementor's feed on happy memories? It was chilling to even think about it. She shook it off, and nodded to the professor. That was why they needed a happy memory. She decided to find what ever open space she could find, and start to cast the spell. At first, she just practiced the pronunciation. "eck-spec-toe-Pah-Troh-nuhm...eck-spec-toe-Pah-Troh-nuhm..." Then. she practiced the wave of her wand. Before she continued, she started thinking about happy memories. She could think of many, but would they be powerful enough? She decided on the memory of Sparrow giving her the Nimus as her first riding broom. She knew that it would be good enough, or atleast, that was what she thought. She concentrated on it very hard, and said "Expecto Patronum!"
Not what she even expected really, but a large wispy shield came rushing out of her wand. It was almost funnel-shaped. At that moment, she knew the memory wasn't powerful enough. She let the patronus go, and she started racking her brain for an even more powerful memory. That's when it hit her... She knew what memory to use. She pointed her wand, and concentrated extremely hard on the memory; one that brought tears to her eyes. "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" Before her very eyes, her full corperal Partronum exploded out, but only for a mere second before she had to let it go. She couldn't even tell what animal it was, because she wasn't looing at it. Her memories were happy, but they were too emotional for her sometimes. Thinking about her father sometime hurt, and she wished that she had another happy memory that would work..

After casting her patronus, Meiko returned a smile to Aludra and turned to her friend Amelia. She seemed to be having trouble in casting her patronus, so she went beside Ammy and said with smile. "Ammy, I noticed that you might have a little problem in casting your patronus."

Rosewood Nicolette Edgecombe, Ravenclaw 2nd year

Rose looked at her wand and grasped it firmly. She scooted her body a bit to the right and looked straight ahead. "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" She said in full force, but only a small puff of wispy, smoke came out of the wand. She tried again. "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" But a large thing off smoke erupted but didn't really do much. She tried one last time. She concentratd really hard on the memory. "EXPECTO PATRONUM!" Still nothing... The smoke was larger...I guess you could call it 'process'.

Kenneth moved away to let Ginny work, he wondered back though the students with a very proud look on his face, they were doing much better that he thought they would have. Once he got back to his elevated position and a better view of the class he watched as Sparrow on her next attempt was able to keep her full body Patronus around for much longer. "Fantastic Sparrow." He watched as Amelia, Lena, and Rose cast very large mist versions of the charm. "Come on girls, concentration is the key. I know you have it in you, keep trying. Don't get discouraged." He hoped that with more and more encouragement would give them the confidence to succeed.

[[ @ Yami: I think you ought to have her go though a few more try's before casting the charm. She is after all a 1st year, and it would be kinda hard to believe that a 1st year would pull that spell off on their 2nd attempt. ]]
