I play flute, too! This is my first year, and I love it. The only problem is our band. There's about twenty flute players, none of the brass section can play (most of them don't even bring their instruments) and our teacher is horrible. We never play anything interesting. In our school, you have to be in choir, orchestra, or band. Most people choose choir because they're too lazy to play instruments, and choir consists mainly of the teaching yelling. Orchestra is really good, because the teacher is good, most of the kids care, and a lot of them have been playing their instruments since elementary school. It turns out band is only a little better than choir. I can't wait until high school, when we audition to get in band, and we have a good teacher.

And the good players will hopefully remain faithful, while the bad ones will jump off cliffs and what not. mrgreen

My band teacher is suggesting me to get a Yamaha 481, C foot. I suggested a B-foot, but he wouldn't let me. Also, he won't let me sell my old one, because I'll need it for parades and football games. Over 1,000$ will be hard to earn, though...except I will buy it. I need it if I ever want to become first chair.

Uh, I need a new flute sooo bad. I've had the same one for almost seven years...its starting to die. crying
Our flute section is going to be really small next year...but then again, I won't have any competition for wind ensemble (or at least first chair....darn it, why'd I have to tie for second this year??)

Definately keep a hold of your old flute, you do not want to ruin a really nice [and rather expensive] instrument in the mud or on pavement. Good luck with the $$ though! I have to see how much of it I have to pay for. But I was playing both models and I fell in love with the 471 (then again it also had an unaligned G and a split E key and also the B foot) But we're in the same boat! Hopefully we'll both get our new flutes.
