Oh, I play the trumpet!! I suggest not getting braces, but if you have no choice, then get a Morgan Bumper. Braces really kill your tone quality and you range.

Its this sort of plastic thing that you can put over your braces. Of course it doesn't make you play that much better, but it does help with range. Without it, I can't play for a long time and I can barely hit a D. With it, I can go up to a high G, but it sometimes makes your notes sound airy. It does help a lot though, so I highly suggest getting it.

I had braces back in 6th and 7th grade band, so we really weren't expected to have any tone quality or range. We were good if we could get above a C. xD Darned kids. Though it was funny, I was still the best in my section even with braces.

If you learn how to play and you have braces, you don't really have as much trouble with braces. Two of my friends who had braces when they started, do not have any trouble like I do. It's really interesting.

I have two: Both of them Yamaha Xenos. One's a B-flat and one's a C for orchestral and church gigs. =O I have three Bach mouthpieces (7C, 5C, megatone 5C [back when they were cool?]), a Yamaha Bobby Shew lead, and my personal favorite, my Monette B2 (it was expensive, but worth it).
