Evan's long, even strokes through the water faltered as he was suddenly grabbed onto. He thrashed to get whatever it was off, only to be sent under as it used him to propel itself forward. He emerged, coughing and sputtering, only to hear Peyton's voice.
Wonder if anyone'll notice if she accidentally drowns, he thought to himself as he resumed swimming.

Pey galnced back, just to make sure he was still above the waves. He was, and he was marine, surely he had this. Considering she was a tiny, scrawny girl, getting herself out of the water was a higher priority.
She went back to swimming, and when she reached the edge of the raft she hauled herself up and onto it, dropping at Gnat's knees into a little ball of curses and shivering.
She didn't go through the portal though, she waited, for Evan, for Tuck.

Thoughts of all of the terrible, terrible things he was going to do to Peyton drove Evan on, and soon enough he was hauling himself up onto the edge of the portal, panting for breath and glaring promises of retribution at the smaller Sun.

She had been about to help haul him onto the raft, but one look in his narrowed eyes sent the much smaller sun backing away and sliding sideways behind Gnat. She didn't usually run from a fight, but she was wet, cold, tired, shaken, and her shield was in poor shape. "Oh hey buddy," she called out from behind their friend. "You made it. Nice swimming."

Making sure that Evan and Peyton got back to the portal (he saw what you did, Peyton, not cool, bro), Tuck started swimming towards the portal himself. He'd always loved swimming, although <******** the ocean, and his smooth strokes propelled him effortlessly through the rough sea.

Tuck paused briefly to see if there was anyone nearby sinking. Before he moved forward once more, Tuck took a moment to reassure himself that Heidi was safe before continuing onward towards the portal.

A few seconds later Tuck was hefting himself out of the water. He stood next to Evan and clapped the Sun on the shoulder.
"You okay, man?"
Eye-daggers, Peyton.

"Oh, I'm just fine," Evan replied, his voice rough from the sea water and barely-restrained anger. "But I think me and little miss midget here need to have a long, long talk about the definition of loyalty."

He didn't respond. He couldn't respond. With the determination of a stubborn hound, Kostya paddled, Mimsy's weight heavy on his back. He snarled into the water, his arms burning, his lungs stinging. What had once been a man devolved into something baser, into something that needed to make sure she survived. It didn't matter if he made it: his sense of self preservation was not so strong. But Mimsy? Mimsy had to live.hp// 33 - 2 = 31 roll// 2 of 3 carrying// mimsy

Ok, so in hindsight, that hadn't been a very good idea. She would have liked to blame panic on the whole thing, and that had been a part of it, but she hadn't been in enough danger to warrant using her friend and fellow sun as a launch point..
Sliding out from behind Gnat, Peyton rose to her feet, a hand going to her dress to pull it closed where it gaped in the front, and looked up at the two men that were glaring daggers down at her. Apologies weren't her thing, she sucked at them, but one was owed. "That was thoughtless and dangerous, and could have really hurt you. I'm sorry." There was no hint of her usual attitude, only a thread of resigned tiredness. "I wasn't thinking."
"We can talk about it at length when we're all safe." Her lips pressed into a tight line. She let the midget comment go, having totally earned a few choice nicknames from all this.

Tuck didn't say much else before he herded everyone through the portal. They could talk on the other side.

When they reached the portal, Jordan took hold of the edge of the raft, nodding to Harrison. "Thanks," he said quietly, tightening his arm around Harrison's shoulders in a brief hug, then slipping out of his hold. "You guys get through and rest. I'm going to wait a few minutes and make sure nobody else needs a hand, now that I'm back with the rest of the world." He hadn't been any good in that fight, and it worried him. He couldn't keep checking out like that whenever bugs showed up. But he could at least lend a shoulder if anyone had been injured or gotten too tired to make it back to the portal themselves.

It was over for a moment. It was bug free, shadow free, and hopefully soon to be poison free. Caelius Kali Ma'd the captain's heart and maybe they'd get to be in an abandoned ship wreck. Why not? The docks of a graveyard, somewhere near boats, something. Stormy had disregarded the chance that the ship would dump them in the middle of the ocean because it was too frightening to consider, would have been an eclipse to what had been one of the nicest days she had (dead bodies and spiders aside).
But the moment the floor left her and all she saw was roiling ocean, Stormy swore all the color left her. Her throat closed so tight she couldn't even scream as she fell.
It was worse than her nightmares because at least those ended before she hit the surface; the trainee slapped against an upcoming wave and felt the breath knocked out of her as easily as if she had hit a brick wall, and there was a jarring sensation up her arms as the greatsword splashed similarly. She was dizzied, confused, and still quite nauseous and weakened from the poison--it was little wonder she started to sink like a stone.
Stormy was forcibly reminded of how she had fallen in the Silver Tower, of how it was like there was an inexorable pull on her body she couldn't escape. She struggled to breach the surface, to breathe, to scream, but she was helpless against the hurricane. She could doggy paddle in a pool and stay close to the sand at the beach and that was it. She'd never learned to properly swim, and neither had her mother--the water had brought the Ortegas too much trouble, and after accidentally watching Jaws at a young age, Stormy had developed a phobia of being caught in a situation just like this. A dark ocean in the middle of nowhere, creatures ready to take your body under.
She heard distant shouting and fought to keep afloat, but the water was dragging her down and flooding her mouth, and oh but she hoped whoever was yelling wasn't lonely out there. Gale, Gale, Gale was okay right? He was always alright, who was she kidding. Miss Candace could part the water with a snap. Nevada...oh, she hoped her hair wouldn't drag her down, it was such a lovely length...What about the other mist trainees? She hated to think their impressions of Deus would be soured by this...
Stormy was getting delirious at the point. The darkness underwater threatened to swallow her.
Thane's purple runes, fully charged from before, glowed like an SOS.

She had, like a few others, decided to wade around and wait close to the sinking site.
Ceres paddled around, trying to look for anyone who needed help amongst her fellow hunters. A few had started to sink, but were quickly grabbed by comrades closer than she was and hoisted up to the surface. It was a nice site to be frank. It was really a wonder just how much of a single unit they were. In the chaos, they united.
Still she waited, the waves bashing against her and the chill of the water seeping through her bones.
We should go.
No, we wait. Her weapon sometimes let his survival instincts get the better of him, deep down... he really was afraid.
Just as she was about to swim in a slightly different direction, she saw something shine under the water close by. Without a second thought, she dove under and grabbed at Stormy's clothing to pull her to the surface. "Hold on to this." Ceres pulled her towards a piece of floating debris. It was not large enough to hold Stormy fully above water, but it was something for the girl to cling to.

Manipulated like a doll, she desummoned Thane and clung to the driftwood for life. Her ears were waterlogged and her mouth was constantly choking and coughing out water, but at least she understood the message.
Yo ho, yo ho . . . Stormy didn't recognize the voice and frankly hoped the woman knew what she was doing.
