Now that this whole little bit of the ordeal was over Kenny headed over to where Doug was wiping tears from his eyes. He had helped with his little bit now he had to find his trainer and this kid said he saw her- um him, saw him. The Beckon pokemon wished he could cross his arms once more as he looked down at the boy. “Oh right, I am supposed to show you where your trainer was.” Doug muttered, he looked a little upset that Kenny wasn't going to stick around with him, maybe he had read too many stories about befriending strong pokemon and then they join them or whatever. Well the kid better snap out of those thoughts pretty quickly, because Kenny wanted to find Dante and give him a piece of his mind, then he was going to make sure that he better know he wasn't ever leaving him behind again.

Doug got up and dusting the grass and dirt off of his shorts he headed over to entrance and pointed over to the island in the middle of the lake, even from the entrance it was clearly visible. “I saw someone go into that cave earlier; they looked a lot like your trainer, only, if they were a girl or something.” The kid paused before looking up at Kenny. “Thanks for helping me out. I wish you were my pokemon for real though. “The brats face was serious as he said that for once not angry or laughing or whatever, that quickly changed though as he brightened up and gave Kenny a smile. “How about after you find your trainer and I find the pokemon my brother left me we can do a battle?! That would be so cool!” Only the eagerness of a little kid could come up with idea’s so fast then dash off without waiting for any sort of confirmation that such a thing would happen.

Kenny just watched the kid run off and shook his head; well he doubted Dante would be in any mood to battle, not after what happened to Apollo and all. Turning his attention to the lake though Kenny wondered how exactly he was going to get across it. He couldn't exactly float anymore, if he was still a Duskull making it across would have been really easy, if he was still a Duskull though he never would have been able to scare those kids away, heck he wouldn't have been able to carry his trainers bag around without it dragging on the ground. Shaking his head Kenny headed over to the lake front and peered into the water and at his reflection. How to get across, how to get across? Kenny wasn't quite sure how to do all that, taking a tentative step forward he felt his food hit the water and stepped back onto dry land again. This was going to be a bit of a challenge. Looking over to the side he spotted small abandoned craft, or not.

Heading over the Dusclops wondered what it was doing just sitting there on the beach side, it kind of looked like those weird boards that some people were riding around on the water. Not the surf boards, Kenny had seen those before, these people were paddling around on top of the water with. Maybe he could do that? Picking it up with one of his disembodied hands he looked around for an abandoned paddle as well. I knew it wasn't going to be that easy. He thought to himself. Still he could probably just use his hands to paddle along, he just hoped he didn't fall in, Dante would probably be a little upset if all of his books got wet. Putting the board on the water Kenny watched as it floated there just bobbing with the small waves coming from the lake. Ok, now to just keep his balance while he was on it. The ghost took a careful step onto the board and was surprised that it wasn't that hard for him to stay on it, well it wasn't if he was just standing on it, he hadn't tried moving yet. Kenny also figured it might be a bit more helpful that he didn't weigh that much, sometimes being just made of bandages came in handy. Making sure that Dante’s bag was securely wrapped around him, the egg and Kali’s pokeball nice safe and not ready to fall into the hungry jaws of a Gyarados or some other monster from the deep, Kenny set his hands into the water and gave his first push off into the crystal blue waters of Lake Valor.

When Ben looked at his watch again, a couple of hours had passed. 'Wow, the time really flew,' he thought as he looked over all of the notes he had taken. 'At least I got all of this good information.' Closing up his notebook and piling up all his book, he gets up with a stretch and a groan before lifting them and taking them all back to the shelves to put them away. After a quick glance around that told him the classroom was deserted, he slipped back outside into the warm summer air.

His hands in his pockets, he went on a little walk while he thought about what to do next. he still hadn't checked out the Route 32 exit to the city, so he decided he might as well head that way and see if he could find any new Pokemon. It would be cool to test his Pokemon's skills against different types.

Wandering around toward the south exit of the city, he makes his way onto Route 32 to take a look around. It seemed pretty quiet, here.. Up ahead was a nice, grassy area, and he could see a bridge and a waterfront far in the distance. 'Hmm,' Ben thought. 'Maybe I can go fishing, later.' For now, he walks down by the grass to look further down the road, nearly stumbling over something soft and squishy.. that's giving him a hiss. Looking down carefully, Ben gives a start and jumps back several feet, watching the purple snake slither toward him. "Whaa? An Ekans?" He knew that Ekans was of the Poison type, and it was obvious that now he had made it angry. Acting quickly, he pulled Pichu's pokeball from his belt and threw it. "Pichu, come out!" In a flash of light, the tiny Electric Pokemon appeared, hopping around excitedly. "Pii! Pichu!" Ben nods, pointing to the charging snake. "Thundershock!" Bouncing up again, his Pichu looses a jolt of electricity that shocks the snake, making it recoil slightly in pain. "Ekanssss.." Ben grins and nods again. "Okay, give it a tail whip!" Pichu bounces into action, running up on the snake and giving a spin, swatting it further away. It's anger wounded and body hurting, the Ekans gives up and slithers away back into hiding, Ben giving a short sigh of relief. "Thanks, buddy.. That was a close one." Looking down, he watches Pichu run up his leg to perch on his shoulder, huddling into his neck. It seemed like he was feeling affectionate today, so Ben just smiles and rubs his staticky fur gently. "Come on, buddy.. Let's do some more exploring before dinner time."

Despite her many talents, one thing Kasiya couldn't do was read minds, even if she'd always seemed to have a sort of sixth-Mike-sense sometimes. She didn't miss his doubtful glance in her direction, regardless of how short it was, and she smiled knowingly. "My mom always had this saying," she said, scooting a bit closer before deciding to join him on the ground. "If someone can't see you at your... no wait..." she paused, the wheels in her head obviously grinding as she tried to draw upon her mother's wisdom. "If someone can't handle you at your worst, then they don't deserve your best. Yeah, that's it!" And boy oh boy, had she ever seen him at his worst, and yet there she was, smiling at him all the while.

Her brow did furrow slightly and her eyes darted from side to side as she tried to spot whatever it was he seemed to be talking to when it obviously wasn't her, but of course, she couldn't see anything but fog. She inched forward a little more, paying rapt attention as he held up the orb. One thing the news hadn't covered was just how those monstrous Pokemon had appeared in the first place. "It's amazing," she murmured, staring hard at the red sphere. "Amazing that such a tiny little thing holds such power. But you were just a kid. Maxie manipulated you. You had no way of knowing what was going to happen." She glanced back at the altar, which wasn't far from where they were, and then back at Mike and the orb again, suddenly realizing why they were there. He's gonna put it back, she thought, a small, yet proud smile creasing her lips, but she erased it quickly, knowing he'd probably want to tell her that himself.

"I've said it before, and I'll say it again," she went on, not liking the silence when it settled around them - perhaps it was all the fog. "You can't do anything to change your past, sure, but where you go from it, how you shape your future, that's all up to you." She moved up right beside him and planted a gentle yet lingering kiss on his cheek. "And, y'know, if you want, I can be a part of that future," she added with a bit of a cheeky grin.

For a few moments, Jake stared at the well-loved little bear plush, tracing his finger over the worn-out crescent moon on its forehead. The toy was more than a little dusty, indicating just how long it had been down here, and he sighed, tears prickling at the corners of his eyes. That confirmed it, then. He'd come to a creepy old house with a ghost. Had a tea party with a ghost. He had to smile though, as she wasn't like the ghosts he'd seen in scary movies or anything like that, though in the back of his mind he found himself wondering why he knew that. He stood up straight, the little toy cradled in his arm. His tears were flowing freely now, but he didn't stop them. "Madison," he sighed.

The sentimental moment, however, was suddenly interrupted by a loud crackling sound, and Jake turned around in time to see Magnemite in the process of firing yet another Thundershock at him. With surprising agility, Jake sidestepped it, now looking at the scorch mark on the wall from where the bolt hit. "What. Is. Wrong. With. You!?" Jake growled, punctuating each word for emphasis and he quickly held up the Magnet Pokemon's Pokeball and recalled it, being sure to give the sphere a harsh, scolding stare before he stuffed it into his pocket. "Seriously though, that Pokemon is twisted." Across from him, Sigilyph appeared to nod, though its attention turned to Jake's immediate right.

The blonde boy jumped as another crackling sound was heard, and as he looked to where Sigilyph had indicated, he couldn't help but chuckle in surprise. "Sparky," he said, causing the Ghost/Electric-type to spark happily. "I can see how she came to give you that nickname, though," the boy added, once again deciding to reach for his PokeDex. Being zapped constantly by an electric type had its perks, at least, as the discharged electricity had powered up the device, and it gave a clear reading of the strange Pokemon in front of him. Rotom, the Plasma Pokemon. As its body is composed entirely of plasma, it is able to infiltrate electronic devices and wreak havoc. It often takes control of these electronics in order to cause mischief. Jake closed his PokeDex and smirked at the little Pokemon. "So, my 'Dex shorting out before was probably because of you, wasn't it?" The Rotom flashed a cheeky grin and nodded, and Jake laughed. "Okay, then. I guess... I guess we should get out of here. I've had just about enough of this place for a lifetime."

The redheaded girl was oblivious to her new acquaintance's inner turmoil over his future drink as she moved up in line, happy to finally be able to order an iced tea and a small bag of ketchup-flavoured chips. The idea of something being wrong with her order never even crossed her mind as she followed Damien to the vacant table, as the first sip of her cool beverage was nice and refreshing. The scent of Damien's coffee drink caught her nose however and again she was reminded of home. Living in a snowy town like Snowpoint meant that a lot of hot cocoas and coffees were consumed there.

Karrigan had only just torn open her bag of chips when the Gastly reappeared. She raised an eyebrow as it and Damien exchanged a few words, looking to Damien for a translation but obviously not getting one just yet. The bespectacled-boy then told the Ghost-type to get on with it, and Karrigan quietly nibbled on a chip as the Pokemon started to... well, speak, she assumed. The two seemed very good at this, as before long the story was being relayed to her and at a good pace, but her expression quickly shifted from impressed to surprise, and then to nothing. "How could someone do something like that?" she asked, the question more rhetorical as she'd spoken more into her glass than anyone else. She wasn't the most emotional of people by any means, but even she could feel her heart breaking for the girl down in sickbay. "I wonder what's going to happen to her now," she murmured, clenching her glass tightly between her hands, her chips long forgotten.

The water was cool, but not unpleasantly so as Kressen waded slowly through the tidal pools searching for a Krabby. He'd already seen a few shellder here and there, but they jetted away or burrowed into the sand in a matter of seconds. No Krabby though, much to his disappointment. He'd been searching for the better part of an hour, but he was having no luck in finding the elusive crab pokemon.

As he searched the trio on the beach simply either watched, napped, or played. Gigas simply slept on the picnic table with his tail handing off so it wouldn't catch fire to the wood. He didn't want anywhere near the ocean and sand sorta annoyed him. Odin wasn't as scared, but the dark steel type knew better than trying to swim. Instead he simply clawed at the sand and watched as the ocean rushed into the little ditches he dug once the waves washed in. Matues simply kept her eye on her trainer hoping to see him get swamped by a wave.

She'd soon get her wish. Kressen had decided to take a lunch break with his team and was wading ashore as a wave started to build up behind him. "Hey guy's let's get you all some lunch and relax a bit." He never saw the wave coming and if Mateus could laugh she would have. It hit him like a ton of bricks and sent him tumbling end over in for a moment.

A moment later he popped up coughing and rather sore. "Owww, man that hurts." He felt beat up all over, but the worst pain was on his buttocks. It felt as if he had hit something sharp. He reached back to check and found his hand running over the head of the pokemon he was looking for. Apparently this one had been partly buried in the sand and the wave had sent him tumbling over it. The little creature stared at him as it's claw held onto his backside. It gurgled a bit and Kressen simply sighed. It seemed all the pokemon he met wanted to hurt him.

It was pretty smooth sailing or paddling if you wanted to be technical, for about half of the way through Lake Valor before Kenny started to curse his trainer’s luck which seemed to really have passed onto him. What was that about Gyarados he had been thinking before he took off into the crystal blue? The ghost type watched part of a long scaled body seemed to slink through the water; maybe this was why all those other people were paddling in the little netted area over there. Looking ahead to the small island in the middle of the lake Kenny wondered how exactly his trainer had even gotten there in the first place. A long white fin interrupted Kenny’s thoughts on the island and his missing trainer and onto the more pressing, and very much more urgent thoughts such as, how the hell do I deal with a Gyarados while in the middle of a lake? Looking down into the waters as his incorporeal hands slowly paddled them further Kenny wondered if it was mad, maybe it was just curious? Another bump against the side of his board, this time a little stronger than before shock that right out of his mind. Who was he kidding? Gyarados were always mad about something. Glancing up at the island again Kenny despaired for a moment that there was probably no way he was going to reach it in time to get to safety. His thoughts were answered just a moment later when the beast lunged up from the water half of its body hitting Kenny’s fragile board snapping that into many pieces and sending the lightweight, ghost flying high up into the sky.

This is fun. Kenny thought sarcastically to himself as he reached the apex of his assent and began the more troublesome trip down. Okay what to do what to do. He was going to hit water any second now and he didn’t have to many ideas on how to exactly to swim. The Dusclops single eye was wide with freight as he saw the Gyarados appear under him his mouth wide open as if to swallow the poor ghost whole. It was probably the hungry act of the Gyarados that ironically saved Kenny from his watery fate. It seemed like a switch flipped in the ghost and seeing the massive jaw’s in front of him he reacted almost immediately forming the familiar motions of an Ice Beam and firing it right down the Gyarados’ throat. The beast roared as the blast hit him and flinched to the side allowing the beam to hit some of the water immediately freezing it over. It was all over in just a moment for Kenny, the ghost landed safely on the block of ice he had just created. His little safe haven at the moment, not for too long though as the beast seemed to recover and turn an even angrier gaze at the Beckon pokemon.

The ghost weighted his options as he stared down the beast, could he probably beat this monster? Yeah, the Dusclops was pretty confident in his abilities. That wasn’t really the point here though; the point was to get to the island. Besides he had the egg to watch after, and even if that thing seemed destined to never hatch that didn’t mean the ghost was just going to risk it in something like this. His mind made up Kenny readied another Ice Beam in his hands and without turning his gaze away he sent it flying behind creating a hopefully straight and sturdy enough path to the island. The beast then charged anger apparent in its eyes and Kenny turned and ran hoping that maybe he could make it to the shore and then it was just another short mad dash into the cave. Of course this implied that Kenny was somehow faster than the raging beast that was very very quickly gaining on him. Kenny might be a lot of things but fast had never really been one of them.

The only thing that saved Kenny from once again entering the overly large jaws of was a sort of emergency Superman dive forward. The ghost hit the ice with a smack and the bag hit down pretty hard to. Still reeling from the metaphorical wind being knocked out of him Kenny could only stare as both the formally very secure egg and single pokeball he carried rolled out onto the ice. It was only luck that saved them from rolling into the water and sinking like rocks. It was only bad luck that caused one of the things Kenny had been dreading to happen actually happen. The pokeball opened up to reveal the small angry beast inside of it. Kenny could only watch in horror as the tiny blue little dragon stared down the much larger blue dragon in front of it. Maybe stared down was the wrong word though, because the ghost was pretty sure the Deino was blind, that or crazy, both? Kenny settled on both as he the things angry growls and saw a familiar blue flame start to form at the corners of its mouth. The ghost could only scramble to his feet and grabbing the egg in one hand and stuffing it back into the bag and sending his other hand out to snatch the tiny terror up and her pokeball before he resumed his mad dash to the shore once more.

The fact that it was being picked up and now moving away from whatever had dared to challenge it didn’t seem to upset the Deino one bit. Well, ok almost everything upset it but it only gave it another thing to express its dominance over. The Irate pokemon just opened its mouth and let out a large blast of the blue flames it had been gathering. The Dragon Rage attack missed almost everything by a mile, something the ghost that was dragging it along was grateful for. Behind them the first beast that Kali had sense was closing in fast. It was challenging her! Not accepting the simple fact that she was its master, something trying to fight her! Anger and bloodlust flamed through the dragons body as she started to glow the ground underneath them shaking and the waves and their bridge going from just unstable to highly-I-am-going-to-break-any-moment-now unstable. Kali could have cared less for the panic coming from the bandaged one who was taking her away from her foe. How dare it defy her need to submit her dominance over this lesser being!? Let her fury be known to all around and all who dare to defy her wishes!

Kenny was going to kill Dante when he saw him! What was up with this crazy pokemon? The little demon was thrashing around in his hand trying to escape as it messed up everything. The ground shaking beneath the lakes was causing several larger than they should be waves to show up crashing down on his little bridge and sending large cracks all along it. Almost there! Come on just a little while longer! The frazzled ghost thought frantically to himself as the cave entrance was now closer than ever but still way too far away for Kenny’s liking. Kenny’s liking would to be in the cave at that very moment though, anywhere outside of the hopeful safety of the cave was much too far away for the ghost. Behind him the beast roared in fury and in his arms the little monster responded with not-as-impressive-but-still-impressive-for-its’s-much-smaller-lungs. Kenny just wanted to reach the cave as fast as he could and was wishing he was faster than his current body was.

It was a mixture of pure luck, another angry Dragon Rage that the Deino fired, a five foot wave that sent Dante’s diminished team flying into the caves entrance. Kenny just sat there blinking in surprise as he was, A not fish food, and B inside the safety of the cave. The ghost was quickly taken out of his shock as a sharp pain lanced through his leg. Looking down he spotted the cause of the pain. He wasn’t too surprised when he saw the Deino latched onto his leg. Sending an annoyed glance at the beast he fumbled with her pokeball before somehow managing to snag her inside of the ball. Sighing he fell back a little and figured he would look for his trainer and around the cave in just a moment. He needed a little rest first though.

Kenny wasn’t sure how long he laid there but he was a little startled when he felt a familiar presence plop onto the ground next to him. The two of them sat there for a long moment in comfortable uncomfortable silence. “They said you would show up.” Dante finally spoke up. Kenny still wasn’t looking at his wayward trainer. “I guess I just didn’t believe them.” Kenny still wasn’t looking at his trainer. There wasn’t really much he could say or do about that. His trainer didn’t seem to think he was good enough for them. After the recent bit with Apollo, his leaving then coming back, his trainers’ personality and just everything Kenny wasn’t sure there was anything to say about that. The ghost pokemon wasn’t quite sure why he was there either, only that the moment he heard Dante was missing an unquenchable need to find him spread through the ghost. He loved his trainer that was sure; then again Dante was the one who he had spent most of his life with. Still even love couldn’t disguise the fact that Dante wasn’t a very good trainer. “I bet your thinking I am the worst trainer ever.” Dante offered in a self-depreciating chuckle.

That seemed to break the ice and both of them dissolved into peals of laughter. It settled down pretty quickly though, there was a lot of truth in Dante’s statement. The two of them sat or laid there in respective silence. It was Dante who once again broke it though his voice somehow a mixture of nervous, tired and resigned all at the same time. “I ran off again. That is all I seem to be able to do. Funny isn’t it? I used to be someone else almost. I used to have something to strive for. I guess when you give that up or get what you want nothing really keeps you grounded.” He paused for a moment as if thinking of his next words. “Someone once told me that when you need luck the most is when it won’t be there. I guess I needed it too much, or expected it to show up. I know I was never the best trainer.” He snorted at that a little. “Actually, we never really did train all that much did we? Just battles and winning, and then more battles and more winning. ” A sigh escaped the auburn haired teen’s lips. “You guys carried me through everything, you know that right?” Kenny didn’t say anything or look over; Dante didn’t seem to mind and kept talking. “I don’t know what I expected when I left the pokecenter last night. I wasn’t even planning on leaving, I just wanted to be outside and have a quick smoke. The moment I walked though those doors it was like I couldn’t’ stop walking. I don’t even remember how I got here. I just remember running things over and over again in my head. What could I have done better? What I could have done different. Did I even do anything good? The list was a sort of harsh truth to me. I suck as a trainer.” He paused and Kenny heard him shift a bit as a harsh laugh escaped his lips. “But, no matter how much I suck as a trainer what happened with Apollo was an accident. That wasn’t my fault on that one. Almost everything else, yeah, I could have done way better. That one, that one was just bad luck though.”

It seemed to Kenny that Dante was done talking for a moment. Thinking back himself he knew all of the things he said was true. Dante wasn’t the best trainer; in fact he was downright negligent at times. He seemed pretty upset by it though. Still Kenny wasn’t saying anything to aleve or correct his trainers words about himself. There was nothing to correct, everything he said was true. Kenny would stick with Dante though. He always would just like he always had tried to do before, that however didn’t mean that he was going to continue battling for him though, or listen to him in battles or out of them. Right now his trainer had to earn his respect back; right now his trainer had to earn a lot of things back.

“So I know you might hate me right now. I wouldn’t blame you; I kind of hate me right now to. All that thinking though got me wondering. I could be a better trainer if I tried, it just takes the breaking of old habits, it takes not relying on my team for everything and start shouldering the work myself.” He paused and Kenny could hear him shuffling about nervously as if on the verge of asking something. “Kenny, I know I don’t have the right to ask you but I am going to ask anyway. Would you like to help me make a better trainer out of myself?”

As Ben continued wandering the upper Route 32 area, he couldn't help but feel a little hungry, so he decided to take a little break in a shady spot of the grass, releasing his Pidgey and pulling out some snacks for he and his Pokemon. Pichu happily munched on the pellets he was given, while Pidgey pecks at his seed cakes that Ben had pilfered from the refreshment table in the PokeCenter the day before. After taking a granola bar and can of juice from his bag, he sits down to join them, relaxing in the warm afternoon air.

Ben felt that the morning had been well spent in the Trainers' School, and he was a lot more confident about his battling strategy since he had gotten a few tips. He also had some ideas on what sort of Pokemon he should catch and keep in his party, so he could be ready for anything. Until then, he knew that he had to get ready to face Falkner, the Violet City Gym Leader. His Pichu's electric attacks were getting a lot better, and his Pidgey was really tough and had a lot of stamina. That would come in handy for longer fights, he knew, as Pidgey had done a great job tackling the Sprout Tower almost all by himself.

'Speaking of Sprout Tower,' Ben thought as he laid his eyes on a wild Bellsprout soaking up sunlight next to some damp soil. 'Here's my shot at a little extra training.' Looking to Pidgey, Ben grins and nods, signaling the bird to start sneaking up on the unsuspecting plant. "Sand Attack," he ordered, Pidgey instantly working its wings to flap up a wall of sand that clouded even Ben's vision. "Now Tackle." His gaze cutting through the cloud, Pidgey launches forward into a sturdy tackle, knocking into the spindly plant and making it roll away, crawling back up and starting to whip at Pidgey with its vines. "Pidgey, flap your wings and fly above it, then Tackle." Quickly, his Pidgey reacts, flying up a few feet before dropping back down and landing with full force on top of the Bellsprout's head, dazing it and knocking it unconscious. Grinning, Ben nods. "That's the way to do it! Good job." As Pidgey made his way back to Ben's side, he couldn't help feeling a little sorry for the wild Pokemon he attacked. After all, the Bellsprout wasn't hurting anything.. But, when it really came down to it, needed to make sure that his Pokemon got the best training possible. Especially if he wanted to travel far, collecting trainer badges across the region.

Riza smiled at the two Pokemon's introductions, giving them each a little wave before she shook Hayley's hand. The brunette was definitely a little strange, but she seemed pretty nice, and oddly Riza found herself smiling and even laughing slightly at the mix up in Hayley's directions. It didn't take long for them to get to the pokecenter, and she looked at her new friend as she spoke.

"Yes, I'm a trainer," Riza answered. "Though I am also in training to become a top coordinator. And yes, I'm going to challenge the gym here. What about you, are you going to try and win a badge too?" She wasn't so sure that the Pikachu and Nidoran would be the best choices against the rock-types though, as lots of them seemed to be part ground-type as well and couldn't be shocked. She hadn't taken even a step toward the counter before her phone began to ring, and she smiled. "Hold that thought," she said, motioning for Hayley to go ahead of her. "I'll be right there."

She smiled as the brunette went ahead of her and she pulled out her phone, quickly checking the screen. Her snapshot of Crenu was displayed across the screen and she grinned a little. She pressed the talk button and raised it to her ear. "That was quick," she said, still grinning even though he couldn't see it. "Sorry about missing your call before, I was in the middle of a battle," she added, watching Hayley at the counter out of the corner of her eye. "What's up?"

Katie left the Solaceon pokecenter with Nell riding happily atop her head, feeling pretty good about everything despite her sort of rough morning. The Buneary on the other hand was absolutely ecstatic, both of her ears unrolled as there was no need to be on the defensive. Katie and her Pokemon quickly made their way to the pokemart, with the Rabbit Pokemon having hopped down to the round in the meantime and the two turned the trip into a little game of chase. By the time the got to the mart they were both a little winded, but giggling excitedly. Katie's troubles were temporarily forgotten.

"Okay Nell, time to pick out a new move for you," the orange haired girl said once they were inside and had caught their breath. Solaceon was a small town so she was pretty sure they wouldn't have a very big selection and she would soon find that to be exactly the case. "Hmm," she murmured, looking from the Buneary to the TMs and then back to the Buneary again before she took out her pokedex. She might as well make sure that Nell could even learn something before making a choice as it would sure beat wasting money.

There really wasn't a whole lot to choose from. Katie found that there was an awful lot of Double team TMs in stock however and she did consider buying one. She was still mulling it over as Nell gave a cute cry and pulled a brownish one down from in between even more double teams. "What's that?" Katie asked, taking the disc and looking at it. "Oh, this is Dig! That sounds perfect," she said, scooping up the bunny Pokemon in one arm. "Good find, Nell!" she said, taking it up to the front desk to pay for it as she didn't need anything else like poke balls or potions or the like.

I wonder if it's possible that she got distracted by something shiny and is gone now, Keegan thought somewhat seriously as he stepped back outside. No such luck, however, as he didn't even have to look around to spot that bright, bubblegum-pink hair. Sheena quickly flagged him down with an excited wave, and with a sigh, the redhead walked toward her, wishing he'd thought to have a cigarette before his initial visit to the Pokemon Center. The Dame's PokeBall felt heavy in his coat pocket and with an irritated growl, he realized he was still wearing his old jacket while two new ones took up precious cargo space inside his backpack. That girl is such a distraction, he thought, yet her excitement was somehow precious. A part of him wished he could feel like that again.

"Come on, Keegan, you're such a Slowbro!" the pink-haired girl shouted, already holding up a PokeBall in preparation for the pending battle. "Don't you want to have your battle with Norton?"

Keegan rolled his eyes. "Norman. Nor... man."

"Oh, don't start that again," Sheena sighed, not at all caring that she was continually getting the gym leader's name wrong. "Let's do two Pokemon each, okay? As a lady, I get to pick first!" The bubbly girl's grin was impossibly wide as she tossed her PokeBall, revealing a stocky yellow Pokemon. "Let's do this, Punchy!" she shouted.

"Punchy?" Keegan repeated, raising an eyebrow. Of course he recognized the little fella as a Makuhita, remembering the time he'd squared off against one in Brawly's gym. "I see you got a new addition, then." He pondered his choices for a moment before taking hold of Pan's PokeBall. He figured it was about time the Grovyle got in some battling, as it wasn't likely he'd see action inside the Petalburg Gym. Besides that, getting smacked around by a Makuhita cleverly named 'Punchy' might be good for him. The Grovyle appeared in a flash of light, already striking a pose as he eyed his opponent.

"Yep, I caught him in that cave by Dewford! Brawly's Makuhita was just so cool that I had to go and get one for myself!" The sight of the green Grass-type gave Sheena pause, and she grinned as she pointed at Pan. "I'm not the only one to have gotten some new Pokemon. What a cute little Grovyle!"

Keegan groaned. "Don't encourage him," he mumbled, but Pan seemed to take being called 'cute' as more of an insult than a compliment. Cute would have been fine when he was still a Treecko, but now he was Pan the Mighty! The gecko gave a growl and beckoned for the Makuhita to attack him. Keegan rolled his eyes again, but decided to make the most of his Pokemon's... err... tenacity. "Give 'em your new Energy Ball," he called, somewhat eager to see the new move in action. Pan took a step forward, his hooked fingers held to his right side as he began to summon the energy for the attack. A greenish orb formed between his palms, steadily growing larger and reminding Keegan of a Shadow Ball.

"Nope, first move is ours!" Sheena giggled, pointing at Pan again. "Punchy, Fake Out!" Mustering plenty more speed than one would expect, the Fighting-type had closed the distance between himself and Pan in a matter of seconds, and in a truly humiliating turn of events, struck the Grovyle square across the face with his little fist. The gecko's eyes went comically wide and the Energy Ball he'd been forming wavered before it winked out entirely.
=====
Damien leaned back in his seat and took a slow sip of his cafe mocha, hoping to finish it before it went cold. "It's simple," he replied, closing his eyes. "People, in general are horrible, terrible, selfish beings. They're greedy and petty and conniving." He enjoyed another long sip before opening his eyes again, peering at the redhead over the rim of his cup and he probably would have continued his little tirade had Gastly not given him a rather unimpressed glare. "It is sad, though," he said quietly, setting his drink down on the table as he hadn't actually meant to go off on a tangent. "I guess.. not everyone... is like that," he mumbled, now becoming quite interested in the 'caution, hot!' text on the side of his cup.

"I suppose," he went on after a moment or two of composing himself, "that they'll contact the police and she'll give a statement and all that, and then they'll probably fax that report over to Johto. It would be in the Johto Region Police Department's jurisdiction, after all." Gastly, meanwhile, had set his sights on Karrigan's lonely bag of chips and had steadily been creeping toward them, though not at all subtly. Damien pretended not to notice, as having her snack pilfered by a less-than-stealthy Ghost-type could be considered a form of payback for the yuck on his pants leg.

'Aw yeah, nice,' Jasper thought as he watched Croconaw's Water Gun find its mark. The Spearow looked utterly pissed and Jasper couldn't help but find delight in that. Falkner, on the other hand, remained quite composed, but the youth quickly decided that he shouldn't be surprised. Gym Leaders were supposed to be an entirely different class of trainers, after all.

Falkner ordered a Fury Attack, which Jasper thought was quite fitting as the angry little bird dove at Croconaw and began jabbing at her with its terribly sharp little beak. Croconaw gave a cry and flailed her arms around, but to no avail. "Croconaw, try to Bite 'em!" Jasper called, finding his heart rate to be steadily increasing as the battle continued. The water type wheeled around, mouth already wide open as she tried to chomp down on the pesky little Spearow.

Riza's answer about being a top coordinator had prompted literally dozens of questions in Hayley's already over-active brain, though when the question of whether or not she planned to challenge the gym was fired right back at her, she had to stop and think about it for a moment. She'd opened her mouth to answer, but Riza's ringing phone stopped her and instead she smiled politely as her new dark-haired friend moved away to take her phone call. "Well, I guess that means we're up, then," the brunette murmured quietly, deciding to give all her Pokemon another round of healing, just in case that last go hadn't been quite enough.

As she waited for her steadily-growing team to be returned to her, she pondered the question a little more. Hadn't she had this conversation before? With tall, redheaded Kressen, perhaps, and quiet, laid-back little Alexis? She couldn't quite remember as the events of the past few days all seemed to be colliding into one massive occurrence. She wasn't exactly ill-equipped to tackle the rock type specialist Brock, especially now that she had Ivy on her side, and Cynder, despite his weakness, could use Dragon Rage. Tisyphone's Double Kick would be handy too. The fact that she had yet to win a battle with another trainer also crossed her mind, and she frowned, quickly turning it upside down as her party was returned to her, and she thanked the nurse (whom still found it quite odd that the girl was still pajama-clad).

Hayley glanced back at Riza as she chatted on the phone, suddenly recalling that yes, she was improperly dressed for traveling and Pokemon training, and with a mild blush, she darted off to the bathroom and quickly changed into her regular outfit. As she buttoned up her white blouse, she couldn't help but think of how cool it would be to get her first win against a gym leader.

Yeah, she'd definitely be taking on this Brock fellow. It wasn't like she had anything to lose from it, at the very least.

One ring, then another, was she still busy? Was she ignoring him? Was Ayane right? With the department store within view, Crenu stopped before the front doors as he hearl Riza's voice come in clearly through the line and he inadvertenly smiled. And it wasn't a small one either, even people that didn't know him would know that whoever this tall blond was, he was happy. "Yeah, I was...taking a shower when you called back. Figured I should get back to you before I missed my chance again." So it was a battle, that's why she didn't answer before. The voice in the back of his head was calling foul and lies, but he quickly silenced the thought. "Um..nothing. Just checking in. We never set up a time or place to meet last night. I miss-" He caught himself mid sentence, and mumbled the last part not really sure if she heard him, but saying something like that was pretty uncharacteristic of him and hard to do. The muscles in his face also bothered him, a sign of how little he ever smiled and he stopped, bringing a cigarette to his lips as he leaned agaisnt the side of the celedon department store. A Lady walkign in with her child gave him a dirty look, then made an exagerated sound as if she was about to faint before rushing her child inside as she stared at a bandaged middle finger that was given with authority. "How'd your training go? Sleep alright?" He didn't miss a beat as he curled the finger aroudn his cigarette to remove it from his lips as he blew out a thick plume of smoke.

I didn't want to do it, but those pupas didn't give me a choice. Trapping me in a web cage while I'm tracking down a missing person, I couldn't let myself get slowed down. I told my Arcanine to take it easy, and to just target the waves, but the fire pooch hasn't been able to stretch her legs in quite a while, can't blame the old girl for being a tad overzealous. The Silcoon should be fne though, I made sure none of them were burned, they'll just be napping for a while. I have to say, I think I'm making progress through this forest, and each step we take brings us closer to finding our missing person. Jae is close, or at least I hope he is. The boy old man Rowan described, the situation in which he was found, it all adds up to perfectly to be a coincidence. And I don't believe in coincidences. But I'm troubled, this forest doesn't go on for much longer. Has he beaten me to the exit and gotten to Eterna already? This is the only lead I've got right now, hunting him down in another city is gonna be next to impossible, I certainly hope I get a little lucky this time around. If I continue in this direction I should reach the exit soon...but there's one more place in this forest thjat's of interest...could he have ended up there? Seems unlikely, not many trainers stumble accross it, the ones that know of it even go so far as to avoid it. I've only seen it once myself, long ago. Mismagius was just a Misdreavus then, the poor dear got overwhelemed by the super natural presences there. One look back at my ghostly companion and her gaze says it all. She nods at me, and I know she's ready for it. But still, I can see the nervousness in her eyes. Imagine that, a ghost that gets unnerved. I kind of don't want to go, especially if Jae did go straight on to Eterna. But I'll never be able to forgive myself as a detective if I don't check it out, even for a sec. Now I just gotta find it, Mismagius will have to be my guide.

As the sun got lower in the sky, Ben decided to head back toward the PokeCenter. Packing up Pidgey and Pichu back into their Pokeballs, he set up the route back into Violet City. No more wild Pokemon had bugged him, so that was good at least. Stepping into the Center, he smiled and left his Pokemon with the kind nurse, knowing from experience that they would be fed and taken care of while he got something to eat, himself.

Once he was situated in the lounge with something to eat, Ben decided to go through his supplies. He still had four Pokeballs, a Potion, and that Antidote he's bought in case of a Weedle sting. 'Weedle..' he thought absently, suddenly reminded of that bug-catcher he'd met on Route 31. And his Metapod. Was he ready for that fight yet? He thought, probably yes, seeing as he'd already managed to get through the Sprout Tower, and his Pokemon were definitely starting to look tougher. Replacing all of his items back into his bag, he smiled confidently. He would have to go and find Wade, and challenge him to another match... Tomorrow. For now, he goes and picks up his Pokemon from the front desk, returning to the lounge with them so he could get ready for bed. After all, sunset in Summer can get to be pretty late, and for an 11-year-old on an adventure, 9 o'clock definitely feels like bedtime.

Jake sighed, stepping over the debris from the ceiling and headed for the door, unaware that he still clutched Madison's well-loved bear plush in his arms. His body ached with every movement he made, which he figured was probably par for the course for someone that had just fallen through a couple of floors, and he couldn't help but think about how nice it would be to get back to the Pokemon Center in Eterna and have a long, hot shower to relax his muscles. Perhaps he'd even turn in early tonight and get an equally early start on his training tomorrow. He'd had just about enough adventures for one day, after all.

With Sigilyph and the Rotom in tow, Jake made it back to the main foyer and much to his surprise, one of the front doors had swung wide open. As he started toward it, Rotom got his attention by creating a flash of bright light, its usual cheery-expression having been replaced with a sad one. Now that it knew Jake was watching it, it zipped out the front door, waiting for the boy and his Sigilyph to catch up. "What is it, Sparky?" Jake asked, but the Plasma Pokemon didn't answer, instead motioning with its little arm-like thingies for them to continue following it. Jake sighed, but decided he might as well, as he was no longer feeling that same sense of gloom and doom as before.

In no time at all, Sparky had led them into the forest, a little ways from where they had initially come in. After following a winding path and stepping over some fallen trees, they came upon a clearing. The outer perimeter was closed off by a black iron fence, its age showing as much of it had rusted over the years, but inside the closed-in area was far more interesting. A single large cross, made of weather-worn white stone, loomed in the center of the modestly-sized graveyard while a little over half a dozen tombstones decorated the area nearby. As Jake moved closer to get a better look, he saw letters carved into the white stone cross. "G-I-L-B-E-R-T, Gilbert," he read aloud. "This must be where they buried family members. But does that mean...?"

The Rotom would answer Jake's question, however, as the little Ghost/Electric-type had picked out a single grave and was hovering over it, its expression still sad. With a grim expression, Jake made his way toward it, Sigilyph having remained behind at the entrance to the small graveyard. He was already pretty sure of what name he'd find on the tiny headstone as he knelt down beside it, and he sighed quietly, closing his eyes as his suspicion was confirmed - Madison Josephine Gilbert.
=-=-=-=-=

Damien's sudden little rant had completely taken Karrigan by surprise and for a moment or two she just stared at him, quite unsure as how to answer him. She had even forgotten that she'd asked him a question as she stirred her iced tea with her straw, watching the ice cubes c***k off one another. "That's not quite what I meant," she said, looking up at the dark-haired boy again. "I meant her. After all... this." She too noticed Gastly as he inched toward her chips, and she sighed. "You can have them," she told the Ghost-type, leaning forward once more. "I meant... her. Now that she doesn't have her Pokemon, and she's in a strange region and all that."

It was starting to get late, and Karrigan checked the time on her Poketch. It hadn't felt like they'd been at sea that long, but the sun was already starting to dip down behind the horizon. The redhead sighed quietly. By tomorrow, they'd be in Unova, and though the prospect of exploring a whole new region was exciting, she couldn't help but think of the poor girl, Miharu. Perhaps once they'd arrived, she could get a chance to meet her, speak to her and perhaps think of a way to try and help her, even though she wasn't sure there was much she could do. She and Damien spent the rest of the evening making quiet chitchat, though less than fifty words were probably said by either of them for the duration of it. It was dark by the time Karrigan returned to her quarters and she felt the weight of the day pressing down on her. She went through her nighttime routine, including putting on her pajamas and brushing her teeth and hair. She wasn't sure sleep would be an easy thing to find once she snuggled down under the blankets, but before long, the movements of the ship had lulled her into a quiet, dreamless sleep.

While most trainers would probably be annoyed that their Pokemon had just been b***h-slapped by a Pokemon named 'Punchy', Keegan was just the opposite. He'd started laughing out loud the moment the Fake Out landed, and even as his Pokemon staggered back a few steps, clearly rattled from the strike did he continue to giggle. "Okay, uh, use Quick Attack," the redhead chortled, causing the Grovyle to shoot him a nasty look. Regardless, the gecko darted forward, keeping his body low to the ground as he approached the Makuhita. The little yellow punk would pay for humiliating him, and when Pan was finished with him, well, it would be Keegan's turn.

The pink-haired girl had been staring in confusion at Keegan's outburst, not so sure why anyone would find it funny to see their Pokemon take a hit. The Grovyle didn't seem impressed either, and suddenly it was rushing at her dear Punchy. "Ooh, um, Arm Thrust!" she called, even as Pan reached her Makuhita and slashed it across the belly with his razor-sharp leaves.

Pan, despite his rampant narcissism, was both fast and clever, and his eyes widened again as that same fist reached for him. Deftly, the gecko ducked it first and then the other as it had lashed out to try and catch him off guard. The third thrust smacked him right on the shoulder, and so did the fourth, but he was able to avoid the fifth before placing some distance between himself an the Fighting-type. "Energy Ball," Keegan called, his giggle-fit now over and he'd turned somewhat-serious. The greenish orb began to form between the Grovyle's palms again and he took a few steps forward as he hurled it at the Guts Pokemon.

Punchy was not that fast, and he'd surely be paying for it now as the Energy Ball sped through the air and crashed into his stomach, causing him to stagger back. Sheena frowned, glancing from Pan to Punchy. The difference in speed was troubling, and she wasn't sure Punchy could win this. No, she thought, forcing those thoughts away. We're stronger than before! We can do this! The pink-haired girl took a step forward, and pointed at the Grass-type. "Arm Thrust, again!" she called, and Punchy charged forward, giving a determined cry as it neared Pan.
=====
"Spearow, dodge!" Falkner called sharply, his voice urgent for the first time since the battle had gotten underway. Croconaw's jaws were easily her best asset and he knew that even one Bite attack hitting its mark would be devastating. Spearow was fast, but Croconaw was no slouch either and before the tiny bird could even think, it felt the crushing pain of the gator's Bite clamping down on it.

"Fight back! Use Fury Attack and try to get away!" the gym leader commanded, managing to calm himself somewhat despite the bad hit Spearow had just taken. Spearow, meanwhile, struggled futilely in Croconaw's death-grip, managing to turn itself just enough to start pecking at the gator's neck, trying absolutely everything possible to free itself.
=====
Damien remained silent as Gastly got the green light to dive into the snack food, which he did both literally and figuratively. Damien honestly had no answer for Karrigan, as he too had no idea what would become of the girl now, though he did suspect that if she was like almost any other person out there, she would probably be looking to seek revenge, regardless of how impossible it seemed now. The rest of the evening was quiet, and normally while Damien would have preferred to spend it alone, he didn't mind Karrigan's company, as she wasn't annoyingly cheerful or loud or opinionated or any of those other things that tended to drive him to solitude. He didn't even care about his pants that much anymore, though if asked he'd pretend otherwise.

He too was still thinking about the girl as he returned to his designated room as well, blatantly ignoring the few spirits that did stop and try to talk to him, as he genuinely didn't care why they were there or what it was binding them to this plane of existence. As far as he was concerned, they should all just 'get over it' and cross over already. He readied himself for bed even though he wasn't feeling all that tired, and after about an hour of quiet reading, he looked up over the edge of his book to see Gastly staring at him. He narrowed his eyes at the ghost, but all he did was smile at him. Damien hardly noticed the faint red glow of the Ghost-type's eyes as his own suddenly began to feel quite heavy, and with an irritated sigh, he leaned back against his pillow. "Hypnosis... not... fair...." he muttered, soon sound asleep.
