I can't wait to see Molly Weasley's actress lady shout "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU b***h!" in the movie.
They'd better not cut it out.
That is all.
EDIT: Also, Nagini must be ******** huge to be able to eat one whole Charity Burbage.

...I liked the book... sad Everyone's going to be mega-hard on it, I think. Were we really expecting something other than the typical hero ending? (I will admit that the epilogue was almost fanfic-ish, but I liked that, given how in touch Rowling has been with fans in the past, you know?)

I honestly think that the epilogue was so disappointing because Rowling had worked it up very early on in her writing, so it's kind of.. old. Her style didn't really evolve much over the course of the series, admittedly, but she did become a bit snarkier as time went on.
One of my big disappointments was how little she dealt with all the death. Fred bites it. A paragraph or two and then it's done. Lupin and Tonks go down. No one really reacts. Hedwig gets the axe! Harry whines and then forgets about it. Bellatrix dies but it isn't even really clearly written, she just says something like "Voldemort's lieutenant fell" which could really have been anyone given what a d**k Voldemort was to Bellatrix. Wormtail silver-hands himself to death and that's hardly mentioned, too. I mean, I guess if you're going to kill 18 characters and countless others on the sidelines, not all of them can get proper attention, but when Dobby, ******** Dobby, of all the characters, gets a proper burial, man..
I hated Dobby.
Also, the entire Gringotts segment. I had no idea what was going on. I had to stop and reread the entire chapter because it was so unwieldy.

That could be why; I had forgotten that Rowling had mentioned writing the epilogue long before she had even finished the second book, practically.
I'll admit that it really took me that both Lupin and Tonks went down. I kind of saw it coming, however, right around the time Lupin had his fit about having a werewolf baby and named Harry godfather. Really ticks me off, too: Tonks is my favorite character (I refuse to say 'was' because she still is my favorite character, dead or not).
I didn't catch Hedwig dying at first. When it hit me, though, I was kind of shocked, particularly when Harry...blew her up. neutral Disturbing.
The reason some of the deaths seem so sudden is because of the nature of the deaths, if you think about it. I mean, it's not like there's a long drawn out death when one dies in a wizarding war; there's a little wand wave, "Avada Kadavra", bye-bye wizard. So that would do for Fred, Tonks, Lupin, and (if I recall correctly) Bellatrix. Dobby had an okay death scene--he even got LAST WORDS! Wow! As for Wormtail, totally didn't call his own arm strangling him, but I got his death right away, and I think he went out "properly".
Part of the problem I'm betting is Rowling's own attachment to her characters, as well as pacing, perhaps. To give Fred a large description of his death in the middle of a chaotic battle might have slowed things down. I mean, death happens fast in a battlefield, doesn't it? (Though Tonks and Lupin got hosed in that regard: I was so hoping they really WERE sleeping at first...)
I like how you counted all the characters, by the way. I'm trying to think if I can name them all, and it depends on if you count Hedwig. I somehow doubt it.
Parts where I cried: Dobby's death, Snape's death and his "backstory", Fred's/Tonks's/Lupin's death, and the epilogue (just from the "OMGENDOFSTROYYY~~~!!!!11"-ness of it all, mainly).

The overall tone I got from the book was WHOA ADVENTURES?
It was kind of weird not to take place at Hogwarts.
But yeah, I don't think the death was done well at all. I think she played on the anticipation of it too, trying to trick you all the time like when Hagrid appeared dead twice. But considering she cried at writing at least one character's death, I'm not too surprised that it was just like here these guys are dead, but Harry's not so let's celebrateeee.
I was sad when Dobby died, but then I kind of expected it in some ways. I was kind of shocked Hedwig died and thought it was sort of unneccessary. When Snape died I was kind of like meh. I had to read the part where Fred died twice because I missed it. I don't think Tonks should have died, that was random. Lupin was my second favorite after Sirius. crying
Harry just bugged me the whole book. What a prat. I felt bad when he was yelling at Lupin and I don't like his maniacal obsessions with things.
But I expected the Malfoy's to end up "good" a long time ago.
The only part I teared up was when Harry used the resurrection stone because I was sad for the dead guys at first, but then I realized they weren't all sad like they were supposed to be but happy and encouraging and then I was confused because there was all this build up that the stone was bad bad.
Anyway. Phew. My mom's taking too long to read the book so I thought I'd vent some of my thoughts.

I forgot. I CANNOT get over how TERRIBLE all those poor childrens' names are.
Seriously. Rose is okay, but I think it's bizarre that there's another little Lily and James walking around. Hugo is a sad name. Albus Severus? The kid would be bad off just with Albus, but Albus Severus sounds so BAD. xd But I have to admit that Scorpius is the worst ever. I mean I guess it kind of fits with the style of Draco, but really.

I mean I guess it kind of fits with the style of Draco, but really. Scorpius, Draco, Lucius, Narcissa...honestly, definitely fits with them. Lily and James makes sense, simply because of the whole "name after people we knew yadda yadda" bit. Same with Albus Severus, but did they really have to saddle that kid with BOTH names? Perhaps they could have split the names amongst two kids, poor dear. Then again, names like Neville, Luna, Harry, Ronald, Hermione and the like aren't exactly "normal" either (in fact, Hermione was named as such so that there wouldn't be any little kids getting made fun of for being a brain named Hermione). With Rose and Hugo, think about Ron's family for a moment: Ginevra, Ronald, Fred, George, Charles, William, Percival, Arthur, Molly, "cousin Barny"? Hugo totally fits. Teddy Lupin is an adorable name, though. whee

Just finished!
My thoughts: Rowling seems to have been having some fun with this, some things seem almost deliberately put in for the ficcers to have fun with: the seven Harry plan, with everyone turning into Harry and then changing in front of him (they BETTER put that in the movie, I wanna see Harry wearing Hermione's underwear). Then Fleur, while in Harry's body, looking dreamy at Bill. . . .
Having Duddly thank Harry was funny. Same with the Kretcher situation, Percy giving his resignation, the way Harry kept using Unforgivables left and right, and other such amusements.
The book actually blended the humor with the drama and death nicely, I think. Most of the deaths were horribly done, though. Yeah, you don't need an actual death scene to have an effective death, Colin Creevy's death was pretty good that way, and Moody's wasn't bad, but . . . Remus and Tonks dying just didn't make much sense or have much effect. And Tonks was -- is -- one of my favorite characters, competing with Ginny for the lead . . . though Snape now threatens to be near the top of the list, and his death could have been better. The scene with Snape's memories made me cry a little, actually. Always knew he was good, though.
Really disappointed that none of the Slytherians stayed to fight against Voldy.
Anyways, tired, so off to bed now. Might right a little more about it later.

It kicked a**! I just KNEW that Snape was a good guy all along. It just makes sense, that is always the theme: "Snape's bad! Haha, JK! He's good!"
I liked the scene in King's Cross with the retarded Voldemort baby under the chair.
It was a bit too slow when they were in hiding in the tent, though. That whole part was just too trudgy.
And the epilogue was excellent, even though I had trouble keeping track of all the children's names.
Albus Severus is a meaningful name, but I don't really wonder why Harry saved it up for so long. xd

arddunaid It kicked a**! I just KNEW that Snape was a good guy all along. It just makes sense, that is always the theme: "Snape's bad! Haha, JK! He's good!" Well, yes. I've always believed he was good, too, and even after he kill Dumbledore, found it hard to give much credit to the idea that he wasn't. Him being actually bad never really held much water. arddunaid It was a bit too slow when they were in hiding in the tent, though. That whole part was just too trudgy. They had to put the required amount of pointless angst in, you know. arddunaid And the epilogue was excellent, even though I had trouble keeping track of all the children's names. I agree, though I would've liked it to be longer. arddunaid Albus Severus is a meaningful name, but I don't really wonder why Harry saved it up for so long. xd Because that's how long it took him to get over the shock of walking in on Snape and Dumbledore's portraits snogging.

Also, entirely predictable. Most of what I expected wound up happening. Quote: Albus Severus is a meaningful name, but I don't really wonder why Harry saved it up for so long. xd It's meaningful. But also terrible.

One thing I missed ... did George die? crying
I got one of those "Trust Snape" stickers before the book came out, so I guess that shows what I was anticipating. emo
