Audun was ignoring Sable. Sable did not like being ignored. With a quiet huff, the young man silenced, focusing on simply keeping up. Now that he found someone who understood him, he didn't want to get seperated from him, rude as he was. He couldn't operate in an enviroment where he knew nothing. Maybe he should have spent more time reading up and less time arguing with his boss. Hmm. Yes.

He glanced up when Audun spoke, just realizing he had been watching the floor instead of where he was going. Who was this? Did Audun know them? Bewildered, Sable could only stand off behind the other man. He didn't want to interupt. He had no idea what they were talking about, even if he did understand them. Hey! He understood them! Maybe they were all going the same place. They looked worried, though. And, was Audun laughing? This didn't seem like a good time to be laughing.

No, no it wasn't. Oh, s**t. They weren't Audun's friends, whoever they were. And by the looks of it, he was making them angry. Why did he always hang around people who just pissed everyone else off? Most unwilling to be labeled as his traveling companion, Sable quickly shuffled to the side, looking at the group warily. "What the hell is going on?" he finally wailed. There must be someone that could clarify.

RuiZhi spoke; answering questions was something he could do! "They," the Chinese boy pointed at the Italian, the man she was holding and the Chinese man, his hand almost lost under the bell sleeve of his robe, "are trying to get that man to talk. He's one of the scientists that went missing. I guess he's too scared to realize he's among friends." His English had gotten so much better after being at the school; he was quite pleased at being able to relay his thoughts without stuttering or mixing up words. While he wasn't as eloquent as he could be in his native language, it got the point across.

The young boy looked curiously at the wailing man, brushing his braid over his shoulder. He didn't look like a teacher, and he certainly wasn't a native. He sincerely hoped the man wasn't sight seeing at a time like this.

When Sable let out a wailing sentence that made Audun's spine tingle, he finally remembered that the other had been traveling with him as some form of companion. When he had spotted Lina and the others most had been forgotten except for that going on so to have Sable suddenly speak up startled him.

"I guess you could say I was misunderstood, then put in my place, then put a foot into my own mouth."

Audun placed a curved finger against his chin in thought, trying to replay everything in his head, when the little China-dressed scarab from before spoke out as if to no one in general. It made him smile, for some reason he liked the temperment of the kid even though he hardly heard him speak or do anything for that matter. Timid was good, and the fact that he was willing to tell strangers the situation didn't hurt him either.

"Thanks for the information kiddo."

He smiled rather like before, though this one not as sarcastic in appearance.

Sable blinked, glancing over to the boy answering his question. Thank hearts someone was actually listening! He listening to RhuZhi intently, nodding as he started to store the information in his head somewhere. It seemed pretty important, so he might need it again sometime. "Thanks," he said with a small smile, nodding to Chinese boy. It was so nice to finally be among people who understood him. "Who are you, if I might ask?" He couldn't refer to him as 'that-kid-who-answered-my-question' for very long. "And do you know what exactly happened to that unfortunate fellow?" He nodded to the man RhuZhi had indicated as a missing scientist.

Suddenly, Audun was speaking to him again as well. Huh. So he remembered he existed, did he? At least he didn't mean to offend the woman. Still. He should be careful around Audun. He didn't want to make enemies by association. "I see," he said with a small nod, nothing else to say.

"You're welcome," RuiZhi said cheerfully to Audun. "It's important not to get lost here. It's not safe." There was no chiding or fear in his voice, merely the stated facts of one who had known such a thing for a while. Truly, he couldn't remember the last time it was actually 'safe.'

He shifted his dark eyes to the wailing man, smiling in turn to him. "You're welcome," he repeated, inclining his head. "My name is RuiZhi Tai." The boy's gaze turned back to the man stuck between his sister and Mr. Herei. "What happened to him? I don't know. I DO know many were killed in riots and other strange things. He probably knows where the rest of the scientists are." RuiZhi figured if he, a student, was privy to this information, then it was free knowledge. He shrugged, still smiling benignly. "He seems to be making everything worse, though."

RhuZhi Tai. Right. He'd remember that. "I'm Sable Hazard," he offered, pushing the glasses back up his nose. Maybe he should invest in a pair that actually fit properly. He followed RhuZhi's gaze to the distraught man, tilting his head a little as he watched the small group. He felt kind of useless, just standing here and chatting with the boy. He could only assume he was a student of the Shinkami School, or something.

"...is there something we should be doing?" he asked warily. "Do they need help, or something?"

RuiZhi leaned back on the palms of his hands, grinning, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Hazard." He glanced over to the source of movement and distraction, his grin softening to a smile, "Oh, no, she has it handled better than anyone else will. Mr. Herei is also very able." He turned his boyish smile onto Sable. "What brings you out this far into China? It's not exactly a hot spot right now." It still amazed the boy how detached he was speaking of his homeland so...flippantly. It couldn't be helped; he'd grown and moved on, something he hoped Weiyuan would be able to do.

"For now, I'd just recommend staying out of the thick of things until we're needed. We all have our parts to play."

Sable flushed as RhuZhi called him Mr. "You can just call me Sable. I'm only a lab tech." He hadn't earned the status of being referenced with his last name and a title yet. He was used to being called Sable, or even just 'apprentice'. It didn't matter. He still got the job done.

He glanced back over at the boy, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips. "Well, I'm kind of here because of all the unexplained goings on. Scientist-in-training, and what not. I'm not needed in the lab back home, so they thought I might be of use here. And you never know. It could be a great chance to learn." As an apprentice, it was his number one job to learn.

"What about you? Aren't you pretty young to be out here in the midst of all this chaos?"

"Okay, Sable." RuiZhi smiled, shaking his head at the comment. He didn't think anyone was 'just' something; there was merit to all things, no matter how small. "I'm a student...a doctor in training." It didn't occur to him that a boy of thirteen years old making such a claim could be a strange. "I'm here because I used to live here. I called this place home, once." Again, there was no remorse in the boy's voice, no sadness or attachment. RuiZhi was very much having a conversation, and nothing more, no matter how much the place once meant to him. It held nothing for him now. The boy shrugged, adding, "My brother, too. Although, I think he'd having a hard time with it."

RuiZhi turned his brown gaze around the area, as if the place would grow homes and show the splendor it once was. He wouldn't expect someone to understand why he had come back, or what he could possibly do. If anything, his sister always taught him never to discount the little guy, because that's the guy that would turn everything around. He firmly believed everyone and everything had a purpose, and life could be a journey to find it.

Sable relaxed, tucking his hands into his pockets as RhuZhi replied to his question. Whoa. Did he just say in training to be a doctor? He looked back over, eyes wide. "You're serious? You can't be older than fifteen!" he asked in disbelief. Well, not that he thought RhuZhi was a liar, but, seriously? He was twenty-two and still just a lab technician! "Wow...just...wow. You must be one hell of a smart kid," he mumbled, running a hand through messy black hair.

He shook his head, feeling quite humbled. "Your home land?" He blinked. It must be pretty terrible, seeing it in such a state. "Oh, brother? Did your whole family come?" he asked, suddenly feeling intimidated. Maybe they were a whole family of super smart scientists. Oh, lovely. "Is he a doctor-in-training too?"

"First off, you can help but not acting like such a bigot, if you don't mind. I am a native, yes. That is something I feel no shame over, nor will I be made to feel such by one such as yourself." He had held his tongue but now he was getting annoyed and his brow twitched faintly but he spoke calmly, like he was talking a casual stroll. "Like I stated before, as you seem to wish to ignore, I'm not here to hurt you. It's not that I do not know my own native tongue, but I am using English to show a gesture of goodwill. I am Advisor Herei Fang, from the Shinkami School. We have come here to find the cause of the suffering and deaths in China and put an end to it at all costs, if it comes to such a thing. However, it's increasingly difficult to find one who can tell us recent events. Especially since the scientists cannot be found and you are the only one we have come across thus far.

"If you do not wish to be seen as a child, then perhaps you should start acting like a grown man, if you so claim such a fact. Running away will not sole this problem, nor will it go away if you close your eyes tight enough and pray." He looked at Alex and he smiled at her. "It's all right, alex. Thank you, but we cannot allow ourselves to get angry, even if it seems anger is the wisest course." His sharp eyes then focused on the man again, daring him to look him in the eye and not look away. "Tell us what you know about what is going on. I am not asking you to trust me, since you seem to think lumping us all together as a THEM makes your problems easier to deal with. But I am asking for your cooperation. Lina had been more than kind to you and I am being patient, considering being blamed for something not of my making is enough to make anyone angry." He took a small breath and smirked. "So.. let's start at the beginning. Your name would be most acceptable at this point."

Though he seemed calm, Herei had an aura about him that spoke clearly. Don't think of trying to ignore me again... Patient he may be, but he was determined to see this mission through. And no one was about to stop him from doing so. It was a good thing that Lina was being nice to this man, but cuddling him wasn't going to get them anywhere. Their time was sorely limited so they didn't have time to waste it. Force was never needed to get answers, truly, but the take it took to gain trust was time they couldn't spare.

So what was Herei doing now? Kenth tilted his head and looked at the captive and the advisor. He could be walking up to the front and do what he was supposed to do...

Kenth looked around at the others. For him, there's way too many people here. If Herei did anything, he certainly shouldn't have agreed to bring this many people. For someone smart like him, he'd agree with Kenth in that too many people would only make the group more noticable by the natives and they are more likely to get hurt. It was those sentimental people...people whose hearts were too much influenced by sentimentality and big, empty principles of love, friendship, mutural relationships, etc etc. These emotions would only hinder one's judgement in a die-or-live situation. It should be perfectly understood that they were just human beings (well, maybe except the elves, Kenth decided to not judge them by human standards), and human beings were bound to look after themselves first by their nature. And because of this, which Kenth thought undeniable, anyone who shed kindness to the scientist were, in his eyes, hypocritical. Lina too, Herei in some aspects also. Although he did admire Alex's attitude. That woman never ceased to amuse him with her openess.

Getting more and more impatient, Kenth squeezed at the badge inside of his lab coat pocket. Did the advisor forgot to bring his own?

The man stood still, his eyes on the ground as Herei berated him. He didn't like the way he was being spoken to, or being bullied into 'trusting' them. The white haired woman had been sweet enough, but the way she stormed off suddenly made him think twice. The other one behind him was a little crazy, he thought, and the man in front of him - Herei Fang, he said, from Shinkami School? - seemed to be genuine, but they all started out that way. "I apologize for my harsh words," he murmured, still not looking the Advisor in the eye, "but you can't expect me to throw my weight with your lot, no matter who you are, after what has happened here. I have no one's word but your own on who you are or your purpose here."

He crossed his arms over his chest in a defensive gesture, turning his doubtful gaze everywhere but the people surrounding him. It was too much like the riots, with people getting close and angry, and the explosion that followed... "Henry," was the only thing he offered back to the Chinese man.
PostPosted: Thu May 24, 2007 10:01 am

The man's defensive pose was in a way effective in blocking himself from harm, as something made of metal shot to his way and landed on his arm like a heavy projectile. If the man did not have his arms up the metal would have directly went into his face.

The metal slided onto the ground, making a crisp "clang" noise. As it stopped turning and settled down one could make out the delicate designs on the metal and its blinding shines that came from the layer of gold coating. The design signified nothing else but one school which purpose was to save the world. Kenth had no doubt the scientist would recognize the badge if he was really patched from the supereme government. The design would almost appear on government report everyday.

Having felt satisfied with his aim and the fact that he had tossed something into the man's face, Kenth quietly made his way to the front, hands remaining in his pockets. His blue eyes inspected the man carefully with calculation. In the end he smiled faintly with a hint of mockery.

"Is this, sir, what you are asking for?"

The scientist swatted belatedly at the badge as it slid off his arm and clanged harmlessly onto the ground, his face momentarily contorted with confusion and fear. He blinked a few times before kneeling - slowly, so the others would know to let him go - and extending his hand to grab the piece with rough fingers. Standing and brushing it off, he looked at it with heavy eyes, turning his suddenly much more calm gaze onto the tall, cold man that had stepped next to Herei. He offered the badge back, frowning, "Yours, I assume." He continued to look at the white-haired man, hard, before giving a single, curt nod. "Follow me. I can take you to the rest, but there's nothing more I can do for you." He turned to leave, almost running into the crazy woman behind him, before sidestepping and continuing towards a hilled area.

Alex had blinked in surprise as the shiny projectile almost smacked the man in the face. As he bent down to pick it up, she looked up for who had thrown it--ah, the good doctor! She struggled to keep her angry-face on, but lost the battle, turning to look away so no one could see the amused grin cross her features, a brief shake of her shoulders indicating surpressed laughter. That was exactly why she was so fond of the doctor; he could do what she wanted to in the most remarkable ways. She managed to keep herself from being too obvious as the man turned to walk away, giving him a scowl before glancing back to Kenth with an encouraging grin. With him here, she knew things would get done.
