"Heightened strength would be a enhancement not a mutation in my book. A mutation is more a physical manifestation of an animal part on a human being." Seriph said nonchalantly, it was discussions like this in the library with his former master that he enjoyed. The discussions on mutants or history usually opened Seriph up a little so he could get to know or even trust the people around him. "One of the mutated humans I traveled with said it usually adds power to whatever sense the manifestation is on. For example one had wolf like ears and his nose was slightly wolf like. As such he had a sense of hearing and smell beyond anything I've ever seen, or heard for that matter."

"Well in that case I guess that I'm perfectly normal. Or as normal as anyone seems to be now days." Arashi said. He stood still, leaning on his staff and waiting patiently for his new allies to bandage themselves.

"Really?" Phit said this in an intrested tone of voice. Even though she was mutated herself, she knew very little about mutants and was very intrested and intreged with the subject. "That is intresting, but what if a muntant didn't have heightened sences nor physical manifestation of an animal part? I mean, I knew one at one point and their mutation wasn't one the eye could detect." She had hoped that hadn't givin anything away, it was just she got carried away in her thoughts befor thinking about what she was saying to these strangers. In response to Avari, Phit smiled, "I'm fine, didn't receive any fatal wounds or anything." She didn't make this a point, but she hadn't received a single wound at all.

"If the mutation is internal? I've never heard of anything like that." Seriph pondered for a moment, " I suppose it would still have an effect on the body part, but i don't know what else it would do."

((I went on vacation for a while, but I'm back - again. I usually post in the OOC thread when I leave - There's a link on the first post, just in case if you guys forgot. I also put down the date of the last post in the OOC thread under the link. :3))
As Avari rewrapped Blank's shoulder, he couldn't help but give an embarrassed grin. "Thank you, Avari," he said sincerely afterwards. "What would we do without you!" he said gratefully with a smile on his face.
It was only when they continued to talk again that he became more serious. Listening to what the others had to say, he nodded in agreement with Seriph's answers to the questions. The girl named Phit had a puzzling concept, however. A mutation one could not see? At first, Blank thought it to be one like Avari's - enhanced sight, perhaps. But Phit assured it was not a heightened sense. Blank was curious... What ability was it exactly? An internal one, as Seriph suggested?
"Well, everyone's body has a different way of reacting to radiation, causing there to be numerous types of abilities out there. I wouldn't be surprised if someone could control fire or walk through walls or any other skill that isn't noticable just by looking at someone. I believe we've even come across those that could fly," he noted, looking at Seriph, Jania, and Avari.
Standing up, Blank then gave a little stretch. "The point is: Humans have mutated in a way unlike those of wild animals. Where the radiation has poisoned and distorted an animal's mind to bloodlust, it has enhanced the abilities of certain individuals of the human race." He rested his hands on his hips and thought a moment. "Well, the descendents of those that managed to live through the war years ago, that is," he added.
Looking around and seeing that no further movement for bandaging was being made, Blank then suggested they continue onward. "We could probably make it to the base by nightfall, if we move fast enough," he thought aloud.

The prey was on the move: Sorina watched the group of miscreants as they gathered their belongings and started moving toward their destination again.
It was also her destination.
She followed them through the woods; stepping carefully and swiftly homing in on her senses: the wind, the darkening of the sky and the many creatures stirring from their sleep.
It was now that the woods were at their height of danger.
Sorina watched as her arm reflected in the dusk light. Scars. Deep and prominent. They covered her body, the most distinctive was a set of claw marks across her face.
Everytime she saw her reflection, Sorina remembered her reason for hating ALL mutants. Be it human or animal.

"I don't think it would be wise to push through on injuries. As much as I would like to get there soon, I also don't want to kill someone to get there" Seriph said as he grabbed his pack and took the lead. As he walked past Blank and flashed him a look that said 'I don't quiet trust them yet'. "There should be a clearing in here halfway, we can rest have a good dinner and a good breakfast before getting to the base."

"That sounds like a good plan." Arashi said and began to follow Seriph. "I don't have much, just some jerky and dry bread, but I'm ready to share if you guys want some."
That Seriph seems kind of cold, emotionless. Blank seems like a good guy though. And I can't seem to get a decent read on the others, except for Avari, she seems nice as well. Maybe if I make more of an effort to help the group Seriph'll warm up to me a little. I'd hate to have to travel with someone who doesn't really want me around...

"theres no need for dry bread, Jania and I can hunt up something fresh for us," Seriph said as he nodded towards his sister who had been staying rather quiet through the conversation. Seriph then looked back at his sister and asked "Trees or ground this time?"
Jania was surprised by the reference to their childhood. She remembered hunting rabbits for her mothers stew with Seriph. It was always fun since she had a bow and could aim them towards Seriph, or if she was bored and lucky, she could get them herself. "Trees for me, you know that!" she said with a smile.
Seriph turned toward a tree and put a hand down and against the trunk. Jania ran up and put her foot into his hand. He practically threw Jania into the tree and she landed lightly on a thick branch with her bow out and an arrow notched and ready.

Sorina's senses spiked: Two rather small members of the group ahead of her turned toward the woods and began walking in her direction. Or rather, hopping in her direction.
Gawd.
"I'm utterly not in the mood to deal with this....", Sorina growled under her breath.
She had been tracking this group for days now, and Sorina knew they would lead her to the CCC. And she could finally destroy the monsters who had destroyed her life.
Sorina thought about dodging the two children--but they were fast, too fast. What other options were there? ....She could kill them. But that would cast suspicions on her at the CCC. No. Sorina couldn't have that. But what about joining their group, instead? Sorina was pretty good at putting on a show.......hmmm......this could be fun.
So without giving it much of second thought, Sorina curled up comfortably in a tree branch, covered herself in a ragged blanket and fell asleep....or at least pretended to do so. If they were going to find her, so be it.

"Well, alright then." Arashi said feeling that his plan to make himself useful had utterly fallen through. "I take it you wont need any help collecting food then either..." He muttered to himself.
This isn't quite going the way that I'd hoped. Looks like I'm still pretty much dead weight for now...

Seriph turned, "It you wanna help then come and show me what you got, it can be really fun hunting for rabbits." Seriph got a little smirk on his face. "They can be really fast if they have an radiation."

Avari smiled demurely as Blank thanked her. “It’s nothing, really...” she said quietly, glancing down. I’m sure you’d be fine without me... And then something came to her – the tattoo, the affiliation. Contolio. She took a step away, her toes curling within her boots. Yes, you would be fine without me...
Why did she always have to help everyone? It was such an automatic thing now that she’d done it without thinking. And here she was, bandaging someone who was part of the organization she hated. For a moment, she almost felt as if it were his fault her family were dead, his fault so many suffered. But at the same time, she knew he was a good person, and she looked away, feeling ashamed.
No one else made a comment about needing assistance other than Phit, who Avari nodded to, smiling briefly in recognition, a joyless look in her eyes. Pausing to listen to the conversation that the others were in, she stared off into the wood, appreciating the rings of sunlight cast down by the trees like sundrops on the ground. Yes... the mutations. Blank was right – where the animals had become vicious and violent in response to the radiation, humans had gained abilities never before deemed possible. What separated humans from animals, then? What had made the effects differentiate? Was it sentience? Body function, cell arrangement? Was there some miniscule difference that they had failed to notice before? Or was it something deeper, something mankind would never see?
Ever since the war, people had become very cautious about having pets. Who knew when a playful kitten or loving, loyal dog would turn on them? No one wanted to take chances like that anymore. Not yet. Despite that, there she was, traveling with a stay she’d picked up off the street. There was no saying what Phoenix might do – what he might become. But she hadn’t seen any signs of misbehavior in him yet, and Avari wasn’t ready to give up on him just yet. He was lost, a wanderer, just like her. Just like all of them.
Hadn’t that been what her father was trying to prove through his studies? Wasn’t he trying to find some kind of form in the madness, some kind of structure to the way those wild animals behaved? Avari watched the leaves shift slightly overhead, rippling in the breeze, the thin boughs waving up and down in some unreadable sign language, the voice of the forest. And what good did it do him? In the end, he lost his life along with the rest.
From some distant place, Avari heard Blank suggest they continue. "We could probably make it to the base by nightfall, if we move fast enough," he added. Picking up her backpack, Avari put her head down and followed the others.
The Contolio Base... it was the last place she wanted to be. So what was she doing here, following these people, traveling with them? Traveling with a member of the Contolio, and with people who aspired to become a part of them? She bit her lip as hard as she could and tried to concentrate on her booted feet moving beneath her. At least she was going somewhere now. At least she was moving.
---
The girl laid down on the tree branch, curled up, and pulled the blanket over her. She’d been watching the group, trailing them. But what she didn’t realize was that she was being watched closely herself. Phoenix’s eyes narrowed, his midnight black tail swishing out behind him. Who was this strange young woman? She looked to be about Avari’s age, but the thing that stood out the most was her face – a large scar was set there, claw marks. That must’ve been a painful one.
For a few moments, he just sat there, pondering how she received the scar and what exactly her plans might be. What was running through her mind? All these humans... they all thought they were so cunning. But they never would suspect...
“Mew.”
Leaping down from the tree branch above, Phoenix landed lightly on the girl’s side, giving her the sweetest-sounding meow he could conjure. He jumped off of her and landed on the branch next to her head, staring down at her face. Wakey, wakey...
