I think the problem was more like this:

I do think part of Lucas' problem is that he lets the special effects go too far. In the OT, it was new, it was innovative, he amazed audiences with his breakthrough visuals. In the PT, he wanted to do that again. Problem was, special effects have become standard. They're used in pretty much any movie in some way. So he felt he had to out do all these in order to once again prove himself, and in doing so, he overdid the whole thing and took away from the magic of it.

i've seen it sitting on Blockbuster's shelf, but i've never actually watched the movie..... and i'm dying to see 'Love, Actually' biggrin
