"That's what you get for being such a good friend to my mother. When I was little, that's what she always called you." She bent down and kissed Ruby's cheek. "You know I love you, Auntie - you and Aunt Kitty, Uncle Scott, and Auntie Erica. I just wish I could have gotten to meet Uncle Ash..."

((The funny part it, she did meet him - when he was Umbra - but she still doesn't know it was him))

Ruby gave a slight shrug and moved on to a different task....which was painting a soldier's leg cast while he was sleeping....with pink butterflies.

"The last time I tried, he ran away and won't answer his phone..."

Ruby kept herself moving from one patient to the next. She ignored any pauses or skips in her power,and continued to work, sealing wounds, soothing burns, and removing shrapnel and bullets. She was wearing herself down, but didn't care.

Aaron kept himself amused while his mother worked, by talking with the other children and making bets with the nurses. He hoped and prayed that the next person to walk into the shelter would have an AoS insignia....that bet was with one of the volunteer nurses, and the spoils of that bet included a recently amputated arm. Aaron decided if he won, he'd keep the arm in the freezer, as it probably wouldnt' fit in the airvent in the garage.

Aaron pouted and goes off to give the nurse the winnings: a box of girlscout cookies and twenty bucks.

"Hello, Laurel-Tree," Ruby smiled, returning Laurel's hug. "Didn't know you had a shift too, but it's good to see you."

"You work too hard then." Ruby smiled, turning back to sorting bandages in the supply room as she talked. "I've been," She paused her eyes moving over to her hand briefly, " fine." She glanced at Aaron, and grabbed him by the back of his pants, before he was able to sneak some needles and syrenges out of the room. She gave him a scolding look, before taking the needles back and putting them where they belong.

"Of course this is Aaron," She said over her shoulder to Laurel. "Those red curls are always easy to spot. But yeah, he is gettin' tall, just like his father." Ruby frowned as she realized what she said, but let it slide, brushing the thoughts away with a small pasted smile.

Aaron looked at Laurel, glancing up and down, before using one of Ruby's own charming smiles, and speakin' with a low drawl. "Hey, Dahlin'."

"It's likely, he'd be dissapointed if he weren't, bein as he's been lookin' up to Arch since he was two." Ruby put down the bandages and turned around, giving Laurel another hug. "You're always welcome to come to the base, you know. We can watch movies, an' bake brownies, an all those other things that normal families are able to do. I'm sure Arch wouldn't mind seein' one of his old students again."
