Now she was REALLY startled beyond reason. A black hatchling had decided to make her shoulder it's new home and was sitting there like it was no big deal. "Um.....er.....hello there, little one."

Asariel let go of the woman’s pant leg and looked up at Zera instead. Tilting his head to one side, he wondered just what the black hatchling was up to. Then it hit him! The human had come from outside the hatching grounds. She would probably go BACK outside again! And that was exactly what he wanted! Like Zera, he wanted to explore the outside world. Besides, he knew that he couldn’t let Zera wander around on her own. That would be silly.
Digging his claws into the woman’s pants, he climbed his way up her leg---with disregard to the fact that his claws were somewhat painful---and dove up her shirt. It seemed to work pretty well, actually. He figured that he would be invisible to the adult dragons. If he couldn’t see them, they couldn’t see him, right?
Except as a rather sizeable lump under the girl’s shirt, that is.

Zera snorted at the human. It was talking to her. She flicked her tail dimmisovely. She just wanted to leave, she hadn't asked to be talked to. She settled down on the humans shoulder, waiting for it to leave. Zera was also pleased when she saw Asariel join her. Her friend slipped under the humans shirt and stayed there. That seemed like a very good way to hide, but she was fine on the humans Shoulder.

One of the older dragons slipped behind Syla, blocking off her way out. Another snarled at the hatchlings, demanding in both thought and voice that they get OFF the human.
"You still fail to answer my question why you have a hatchling with you," one of the dragons said to Syla, "Speak quickly, human, we wish to know why one of our own is in human hands."

Zera noted the other dragons seemed mad, but she ignored them Zera looked at the humans backpack slyly then over at a tree behind the human. This tree was her hidey tree. It had her book and stone in it. Zera jumped off the human and slipped into the tree then darted out again, this time with her book and shiney stone in her mouth. Meracously, Zera managed to climb the human again, ignoring the enraged dragons and she dumped her book and stone into the humans backpack. Then she slipped down into the backpack too, an peaked out at the mad dragons.

Syla hissed in pain as the blue hatchling, who had been chewing on her pants, decided to climb up the back of her shirt. Needle-like pricks finally paused when the little one reached his destination; unfortunatly, he caused an ackward lump in the middle of her back.
Xran waddled over to his friends, seeing Zera on this humans' shoulder and Asariel climb onto her back. Chirping, he decided to join in; glancing about, Xran noticed a colorful bag hanging from this humans shoulder. He jumped and snagged the bottom of the bag, climbing in through the opening at the top.

Asariel clucked quietly, which was his version of giggling. This was brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! No one would be able to stop him from exploring the Outside with Zera! No one!
Unless the human stayed still… he wondered if it was usual for humans to stay in one spot for long periods of time. One would think that they would get bored. Ah well, so long as she moved eventually, he would be happy. He was quite comfortable and warm back here anyway, wedged between the human’s back and her backpack. Maybe scratching her would get her moving?
He blorted indignantly as a voice in his mind commanded him to get off the human. He had been found out! Perhaps betrayed!! He wriggled around furiously for a few moments then remained perfectly still, all puffed out, which probably looked like the girl had a balloon strapped to her back. He was NOT going to move! This was HIS transport! Those scaly-britches dragons were probably just jealous that they hadn’t thought of this. There was some shuffling outside; he could feel the vibrations as Zera jumped off the human’s shoulder and then climbed back to the backpack. Good! Then she would be invisible too!
And the adult dragons would go away if they couldn’t find the hatchlings.

"Call the nearest Dragon-Bound," one of the dragons said, "We'll injure the human if we try to pull the hatchlings off."
Another dragon, the male from earlier, smiled. "I see nothing wrong with this," he replied.
"You stay there," the dragon behind Syla ordered, "We're not done with you yet."

Syla stared at the dragons circled around her before turning back to the speaker. "Please, Lord dragon.......I recieved Ayvia as a gift from my great-grandfather, a dragon-bonded himself." She paused, remembering him and his dragon companion before returning from the realm of memories. "I would never wish harm upon her, she is my dearest friend. I only wish to pass by on my way to the mountains."

"Humans have been known to steal eggs," one of the dragons hissed, "Your manners speak familiarity with dragons, however. The clan will decide your fate. A hatchling should not grow up with humans." Then her voice softened. "If nothing else, as the hatchling matures it will start to use magic and with no one to teach it... it could very well injure itself or you or any others nearby."
"Rin and Maderik are not far," another dragon said, bounding up, "I was able to speak mentally for a few brief seconds, enough to relay that they're needed here."

"I understand, My Lady.......Grandfather told me the same thing before he died. I......if you would, I would like to learn more about your kind! I have only respect for your kin!" Syla dropped to her knees, despite the hatchlings clinging to her body.
Ayvia, sensing her friends' troubled mind, quickly climbed upwards and curled up around her shoulders. She chirped softly at the female dragon, her deep-blue eyes glittering with love and affection for Syla.

'Zera hissed stubrenly. The human wasn't going to go anywere, but Zera wanted to leave. She struggled out of the backpack, taking the stone with her and darted off into the woods. She didn't care what ahppened next, she just wanted to get away. Away from the hatrid of humans. Away from the bossy Dragons. She wanted to explore. She hadn't gotten far, but she climed a tall tree and peaked out to see how the dragons reacted.

After a brief wait the sound of wings filled the hatchery and a great black dragon landed among the other adults. A young woman swung off his back and landed unsteadily onto the ground.
"Rin," the female ordered, "Help this girl. The hatchlings won't leave her alone."
Rin glanced up at Maderik briefly and he closed his eyes, letting her do this on her own. Muttering curses under her breath she walked over to the kneeling Syla and noted how the backpack seemed to be squirming. She unclasped it and pulled out the first hatchling she grabbed.
"Who are you and what possessed you to come here?" Rin whispered under her breath to Syla as she did.

"My name is Syla.....I came here because of a path towards the mountains." She whispered back, motioning towards a roll of parchment with her shoulder. "Do you actually think I would intentionally disturb a nesting ground?! That goes against all my morals!"

Sensing someone’s arrival, Asariel contrived to stay as still as possible. He felt the backpack wedged against him shake slightly, as if someone was removing something from inside it. Zera would NOT be a happy hatchling, he figured, if Zera was being removed… but… if Zera was removed and didn’t get out, what would he do in the Outside? He hadn’t thought about that. The way he thought about things, Zera would always be there. She was his friend! Was the Outside really worth losing Zera for?
Well, no, not really. But, he trusted Zera! She would find a creative inventive way to get out! He just had to stay put…
