The amusing thing is that there have been a number of instances where foreign Lolitas have been walking through Japan and recieved comments and compliments-- including being told that a number of Japanese Lolitas think that foreigners look better in the fashion than they do.

Amanikitty Since when did being Asian meant that you could be a lolita? =/ Obviously she doesn't know that Gothic Lolita was taken from a fashion that ALL nationalities of people wore in America and other places, including Caucasian, African-American, and other nationalities. Fashion is a way of expressing yourself, not dressing a certain manner according to your nationality. I'm African-American, and if I felt like it, I would wear a kimono because I know I would look damn good in that thing. [excuse me for my language.] Your friend must not really be a friend, to say such m ean words to you. And if she's not Asian, why don't you tell her, "You are just a wannabe when it comes to Visual Kei", in the same manner, and see how she feels. =/ If my friends did something like that to me, and wasn't kidding about it, I would drop the friendship like it's hot. *completely agrees* 3nodding Amanikitty I wish everyone thought like you

NeverMoreBlue then thats a good thing hes yur ex hmm? on another note i dont like close minded people, yu know the ones that tell yu yu look rediculous because they dont understand anything. I dont have a story or anything but i was doing some thinking and it really suck because those kind of people cant open there minds to learn about something diffrent.. I don't like clse minded people either, if you pass by them wearing anything but mainstream fashion they think there's something wrong with you and never stop with the stupid! If you ask me they're the one's with the problems, they need to get a clue and realize that what they like and think is "normal" isn't what the rest of the likes and thinks of as "normal".

OMG HOW SHALLOW FOR HER TO SAY YOUR NOT A LOLITA! You can like classical and not j-rock and still be a lolita! Its not just what music you listen to but how you present yourself your daily life. Some lolita styles have a certain behavior like being modest and kind and such and obviously being mean is just not lolita like!
Also just because you are not asian is like the worst excuse to say you are not lolita.
I mean have oyu seen the lolita bible and other japanese magazines they have german and other types of people as examples as lolitas
I MEANN GEEZ thats sooo shallow >.<

Sakki namida_no_chi Sakki Oh yeah, I forgot to add that asside from the whole 'non japanese people can't be lolita' nonsense, wearing lolita to a Diru concert isn't a real good idea ^^;; Not only could your nice clothes get messed up in the mosh pit *made the mistake of wearing lolita to a concert once D:*- especially if your wearing platforms!- but Dir en grey has said in an interview that they're not that fond of lolita fashion. I thought that was just Die? And Kyo ^^;; That still doesn't constitue the whole band.

Our Lady of Lust The problem is that ALL Japanese demoiselles are cute and look younger, this is why Lolita fits them so well. White girls tend to look older, and I think this is why it is somewhat... weird to see a 18 year old girl in a dolly-like dress. This is my opinion 3nodding I must admit... I am 18 years old and, maybe that's because of my eyes, but I look very mature and I still think I don't "look" like a Lolita... Should I change for Aristocrat? So soon? Nooooo!!!!!! I never really thought about it before, but ya know, I think that is true. As for me, I don't think I'll ever really be able to fool anyone into thinking I'm a 6 foot tall child. xp But hey, I think my face may still pass as Loli? And maybe I'll just try to hang around Lolis who wear platforms?

Well I always thought Lolita was a fashion style and even a way of living, not limited to a certain nationality. Anyway, I'm a citizen of England but I'm entirely Swedish, I've lived in England for about 9 years. You don't need to be english to be an english citizen, so why do you need to be asian to like a style which has sprung from japan? The styles based off victorian and sometimes edwardian clothing right? They were worn bye people in europe and usa, so how can she say that you will never be a lolita?
People who have that sort of attitude always get on my nerves, sorry, I got a bit carried away there... sweatdrop

I love lolita fashion and have tried to wear it at school. Half the time kids ask me where I got the few things I have and the rest of the time they all yell at me for not being asian when I explain the style to them. Though my French teacher loves the style even though I knock everything over. Lolita is about the heart and then the clothes. The last thing any style should be about is the race of the wearer.

If thats true, therefore I can't wear Lolita because I'm half Hawaiian and half Mexican.
Lolita Fashion was inspired from Victoran/Rococo era, which is European!
Ugh, some people can be so igonorant.
(PS, you may want to reconsider your friendship with V.K. A true friend would support you or give critisms that can benefit you but not tear you down)

Counter argument: "Okay, fine. Then if you want to be a super tanned, bleach blond beach bunnie, you have to be white! BOOOO GANGURO*"
I don't see how anyone could say you'd have to be Asian when so many asian fashion trends are BASED OFF OF WHITE PEOPLE IN WESTERN CULTURE, including lolita!
*The opinions expressed are solely for educational and moral-boosting purposes. Belle does not have anything against Ganguro, and in fact, thinks they are adorable in their own intimidating way.
