Wyv turned and couldn't help but smile. She remembered her own reaction to a real live Aerandir gryphlet. "Yep, that's him."

Makai forgot about shoelaces as the not-so-big one made herself even smaller. He whistled a few times, mimicing Wyv's tone pitch-for-pitch as he bounded closer to Ary, placing both forepaws on her leg.

"He does that when he wants to be picked up." Wyv's voice was warm, bordering on gushing. Makai was a subject close to her heart. "He likes to feeling things out with his paws and his beak, so he might n** you a bit." A stunned expression flitted across her face. "I'm an idiot." She shook her head, green spikes swishing back and forth. "His name is Makai and he's a Blue Swallow/Cape Otter mix. And you can call me Wyvern's Scale. Pleased ta meetcha."

Ari smiled and reached forward, running a few fingers over his smooth feathered head. She felt her heart shutter with excitement and warmth. She always loved animals...of any kind, to be honest, but this was truly amazing for her. Carefully she picked him up from under his front legs and then moved one of her hands under his hind ones, holding him slightly against her shoulder and chest. This was a position she commonly held her cats in, and seemed comfortable enough for the animal in question. She smiled at Wyv, "Well my name is Arianna Keeylis...Ari for short. Please to meet you AND Makai."

Scritches were always nice. The gryphlet trilled happily as he was lifted from the ground. He poked and prodded- gently though, he had leant his lesson well- about Ari's personage. She smelled... warm. Like Wyv's tools after they'd sat in the sun for too long. Not unpleasant, but different. He whistled a question at her, staring intently as he tried to mimic the pitch of her voice.

Wyv grinned. "Likewise for him too, I'm sure," she said with a nod of her head. Makai liked her- but then, Makai liked everybody for the most part. "So how long've you been out here? I figured there would've been an announcement or something. There were, what, four of us on the original voyage."

Ari didn't mind the proding at all, for she was used to nips, pokes, and the like. In response to his thrill, she scratched his head again, smilling, "Oh?" She then glanced at Wyv again to reply to her question. She had to think for a moment, "Ah...well...only a few days really. I'm very new." She wondered how many people were here now, if four had been the original number.

Wyv looked thoughtful. "Well, There was me, Sin, Chao, Jizzy... and Abby, so that's five... And then there's Anthony, the administrator, so you makes seven?" She shrugged. "I've gotten so used to a half empty village, you'd think I'd notice people moving in."

Makai gave a whistle that was pure otter at his green one. He had noticed, even if she hadn't.

"Well...that's just like saying that I should have met my neighbors by now," Ari said with a sheepish grin. She had been so busy in her home that she hadn't found time to meet anyone until today...which was rather sad, since she had been here at least 4 days or so. You'd think she would have met someone on the first or second.

The otter-gryph heaved a mewling sigh. They were hopeless. He nudged Ari's shoulder with his head. His message was clear: enough with the chit-chat, make with the pampering.

"I met everyone on the first day," Wyv admitted. "But that's just because we were all on the boat together. The only person I really know is Chao, 'cause she watched my jars for me while I had to leave the island for some personal business." Secretly, Wyv was proud. She'd managed to finish that statement without any change in her inflection. See? She didn't have to let herself be burried by the past.

"So..." She wasn't sure where to go from here. "I'd offer you a tour, but I still really don't know where anything is, save for the lodge, my house, and my fishing spot."

Ari began to stroke him again, easily doing it while conversing with Wyv. She had had practice with such things, for her cats had been like that years ago. What Wyv said made sense. "Well...no one else was with me on the boat...and..." She paused and said in slight embaressment, "I'm not the best at meeting new people..." It was very strange...she was only shy around people she didn't know...everyone else she was easy going and relaxed with.

Wyv's face lit up. "All the more reason for you to come ot our horror-fest or whatever it mutates into! Everyone here is fairly nice, you'd meet people just by being there. And food is always a good conversation starter," she finished with a satisfied nod. Truth was, Wyv wasn't that good on meeting peopl either, much prefering not to intrude on personal space. But Ar'Idil was her home and these people were her neighbors and so they lost some of the aspect of being strangers to her. They were, after all, a community.

Makai made happy little sounds. He absolutely adored being fussed over. He crooned softly, imitating each sound the two women were making to the best of his ability.

Ari gave a nod, her hand continuing to stroke the Aerandir almost machanically. She couldn't help but chuckle a little at Wyv's comment about food. Oh, yes, talking about food was probably the most desperate conversaion starter ever. Yet, it worked most of the time, which was very strange. "I'll come...even if I'm not a horror movie fan or anything..." She smiled, rather glad she had come out and met Wyv today.

Wyv smiled back, a much warmer and welcoming smile than her usual. "That's okay. If all goes according to plan, we'll have a bunch of cheesy horror films to run our own version of MST3K to. That's always fun."

The older woman turned to Makai, craddled comfortably as he was in Ari's arms. "Now c'mon there, Bloo. We gotta get back home. Music lessons, and all that jazz." Now, she looked at Ary. "You wanna walk with? So you know where I live. You could come over and visit Makai 'n' me whenever you'd like."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 17, 2005 9:15 am

Ari reluctantly shifted her arms and set the Aerandir down. He was such a sweet heart, she kinda felt sad that she had to let him go. She supposed she could visit though, if she went with them to see where they lived. With another pat on his head she looked up at Wyv, "Sure...that sounds handy...after all, you are the only one I really know for the time being."

Makai fussed. He didn't want to be put down, but home was a good place to be. And music was fun! Even if he didn't know why and his green one really had no idea what she was teaching. He nipped playfully at Ari's shoelaces and the lopped ahead. He paused and looked back over his shoulder, as if to say, "What are you waiting for? Let's go!"

"Alright! We're off then." With a cry at her ward not to get too far out of sigh, Wyv started towards home.

Ari giggled a little at Makai as he attacked her shoe laces and then raced ahead. He seemed so full of energy...it was very refreshing to watch. She followed along side Wyv, hoping that her home wasn't too far from theirs. It'd just be more convienant if they were close...but she supposed walking wouldn't hurt her, either.

(( Omg! *eats the sucky post* Horrible! ))

Makai bounded along, racing ahead, then lowing until the duo passed him, then zigzaging from side to side to end up in front again, but always making sure they were in sight. He liked his green one happy and if this kept her happy, it was a small price to pay to not go after all the intersting other things. He could always investigate them later.

Wyv marched on, keeping a running comentary going- on the ground, on the trees, on what fish she'd caught. She wasn't usually so chatty, but felt obligated to make her shy companion feel welcome.

She stopped mid-word about her latest catch. Wow, that long seemed to take longer to than from. Wyv gestured with a flourish. "Welcome to my residence. Make yourself at home."

(( Yay for side-stepping dialog! And likewhoa, I wandered off screen and back in the town and there's like 70bazillion people there now. ))
