Yes these were good albums, but nothing that bands had already done before. Sormblast was excellant because they got out of the orchestra stuff which they overused and therefore killed the metal. But after Stormblast the rest of the albums seemed popish in a sense and nothing spectacular has come out of Dimmu since.

Stormblast, making their second album, was certianly a great attempt after All Tid. But, there was something lacking to their music during these two albums. And with Darkness Throne Triumphant, they seemed to fill this gap with the colourful orchestra. But they began to over~do it. They went from extreme to extreme....

agreed. I still think Stormblast was one of the best even though like you said it had something missing, but to me it sounded good.

I_N_F_L_A_M_E_S All hail the kings of black metal... i've heard alot of negative comments on the overdone orchestra in Progenies of the Great apocalypse, but honestly, i think thats one of my favorite things about Dimmu Borgir. i dont know any other black metal bands that do that. if there are more, then im a moron, and i don't listen to enought black metal. For clarity, that album is Death Cult Armageddon. I don't think of them as black metal anymore, DCA sucked.

Quote: ...but maybe it really is better than the new. Ouch, that was a daring statement to the Dimmu Borgir fans. Check out Stormblast, Enthroned Darkness Triumphant (finally got the actual name), or All Tid.

Heeyy calm man, it's cool. I just wasn't sure - because you were referring to the orchestra in Progenies... I wasn't sure if you were just talking about the song, or referring to the album as that.
I think the olderish stuff is better, but the very early stuff is bad. xp It's hard to describe, I'll just leave you to check it out yourself.
And yes, Naglfar ******** rock. whee

Harvested Sorrow Malica Think about it really, honestly could the band control who likes (or say likes) them? No, they have no control over their fanbase, so therefore because they got famous and people like them, they shouldn't be hated by the old or extreme fanbase They can't control their fanbase no, but they CAN change their sound to make themselves accessible to a larger fanbase. You're lying if you try to tell me that bands can't attempt to follow trends to gain more fans, which is what they did. It wasn't a matter of them getting bigger, it was a matter of them changing their sound so they could get bigger. People also get pissed off because they're called black metal, most would simply hate them because they think they're s**t now but not bring it up if people din't always claim them to be the best black metal band ever or what the hell ever, like they do with CoF. Let me ask. If a band never changed it's sound. They would never evolve. If they never evolved. They'd end up like Cannibal Corpse sounding the same over all their albums. No offense to Cannibal Corpse fans. So do you really want them to not change their sound ?

Of course a band can change their sound, although if they change it too much they should probably change the name....(if they go death metal to alt. rock or something for example). It's the reason they change their sound that matters.
