This made Leradien's short temper rise once again.. She was cold, stiff, her head hurt, and she felt sick to her stomach. The scent of blood rotted in her nostrils. "YOU tell ME Notoka!," She growled angrily, "I do not know these woods! I only met Lewain last night! You're the one that grew up with her! Why WOULD there be blood, Notoka?! Why would there?!" Her eyes flashed angily meeting his. He was not her Alpha, not yet at least.

His hackles rose at that, as did his head and his tail.
Watch your TONGUE, he snarled, despite the fact he was growing more level-headed now. Lera had made a point, and he wasn't going to deny it. He should know these woods better...but if Lewain was dead, why was there blood but no body? He didn't smell two-legs here, so it wasn't likely she was carried off as a trophy...and what would eat a wolfess so thin and ragged? It didn't make sense.

He turned away from Lera, breaking their staring match, and scented the wind carefully. Whatever faint scent left over from Isaac's carrying of the old she-wolf was disappating quickly and if they did manage to make it to the river, neither Lera or Notoka would be able to track. The body was probably long gone.

Lera took a moment to catch her breath, her breathing growing thin. She was at a lost for leads...but maybe....

"I'm not sure if this helps any, but ever since we crossed the river I've felt as if we were being followed, just as if I wight would haunt a barrow. It's ominous presence made me feel as if I was about to pass out, it sent chillds up my spine...would there ever be a reason for such a creature to be comming here as well?"

No, he said, grunting it instead of really speaking. Hardly anyone knew we were coming...and none of them knew Lewain. None of them seemed to care we were leaving in the first place.

He snapped his jaws together angrily and started to lope towards the river, following the blood trail as best as he could.

The corners of her mouth pulled back as she followed him to the river. Her nose felt frostbitten and could smell nothing but the smell of death, it lingered everywhere. She arrived at the shore, the wind whipping at her fur, she sat at the endge, hunching her shoulders and tail curling around her feet. Who could have done this...?

Notoka paced the river's edge once he reached it, his muscles tense and fur still on end. This didn't make sense....the scent of Lewain was gone now completely, save for the trail they'd followed to get to the river.

The male slowly realized that Lewain was gone....and was probably dead from what Lera was telling him. A mournful howl began to burn deep in his chest but he repressed it, determined not to give up. His pacing was growing frantic as he held his nose downward like a domestic dog might.

Lera gave a shiver as she watched Notoka smell with all his might, searching for any trace of Lewain, it made Lera's heart twist. She closed her eyes in thought.

She was soaring, above the trees! The ground was far beneath her, the river passing, the hillsides. Black wings flapping at her sides. Two wolves on the bank - but a gathering of black on the other side, food, food! Landing on the ground, and fighting for a taste of the supple flesh that was not yet frozen, but having a hard time ripping it open! Violent shrieks in the air, feathers everywhere.

Lera's mind wandered back to her own body, she gulped.
She stood, setting a paw in the ice cold water, slowly going into it. Where she was was a bit deeper then where they crossed over previously, but just low enough for them to not be swept away. The river at this time of year wasn't as swift as it would be in the spring.

Lera moved intot he water slowly, dreding that the carcassmight just be....

Notoka didn't even turn to watch Lera go into the water, too busy in his pacing for it to even register that she might know where Lewain could be. Sniff sniff sniff. That's all he could think about right now.

Lera waded across to the other side, almost as if she was in a trance. She followed the raven's sight, into a small clearing, where a carcass lied, covered in crows. She ran at them, and they scattered. What was left was definatly Lewain, her face was still whole....

Lera almost lost her lunch, to say. The site was nausiating.

(( eee i missed alot >< damn my need for sleep =P ))

Silva had stayed back, not knowing what to do but letting them rage at each other - better to let the frustrations out. It dawned on her that something bad had happened to Lewain, and this meant pain for Notoka and Lera. Answers were lost. She scented the air, unable to tell where Lewain might have been taken, staying close to Notoka as he searched. Occasionally she touched her nose to him, trying to be of comfort.

The male whimpered as he lost hope, finding nothing that would lead him to Lewain, and gave Silva a very forlorn look. Lewain was the last of his family that he knew to be alive.

We need to go home. I need to get away from here, he whispered, swinging his gaze around now to look for Lera.

She nodded, her heart breaking at his pain. She gently licked an ear.
I understand she said softly.
We'll find her and go

The smell of Lewain's rotting corpse tore at Ler'as nose, her decaying body half eaten by crows and maggots. Hey eyes were gone, probably pecked out by the grows. A paw could be found here, and piece of her ear there, but the body was recognizable Lewian. Lera could feel her mouth turn dry, and her stomach twisted. Her fur prickled as she backed out of the clearing quickly. Her limbs felt like water beneath her, the ominous feeling, was still here, but now: Lera wasn't afraid. She knew not who this feeling belonged to, but now, anger bubbled inside of her, a primordial rage filled her down to her toes. Lera tapped into Silva and Notoka's mind painfully.

"I've found her"

Notoka's stomach heaved some as Lera's thoughts invaded his own, feeling her rage.

I don't want to see. I want to go home. Now, he spoke aloud, his tone acidy despite his sorrow. He didn't want to see his old packmate's decaying body, for that must have had to be how the old she-wolf was due to the fact that Lewain hadn't spoke out to him to console his swirling thought patterns. She had to be dead.

Lera could not hear his words, but hsi emotions got through to her. She nodded in agrement to herself, giving a last look to the wolf she had only just met, and left. She returned to the bank of the river, her head swimming. As of right now any communication by thought hurt her more than ever, her head felt like a giant pressure cooker, as if her eyeballs were about to explode there sockets. Lera quickly licked her nose. A metallic taste entered her mouth - Lewain's blood? No, her own. She sighed, and continued to lick. Right now wasn't the time to press on about what they should do. They came, and were about to leave empty handed.

Lera was horribly frustrated, last night's feeling of determination and success were not gone, replaced with a hollow cold and dryness.
