Torrid's eyes widened and he let out a muffled squeak of suprise as Euphrasia flew at him. When she spoke, he shrank, his demeanour becoming rather meek.

"Well, Miss... I was late for law class, y'see. It was my own fault really, I slept in and all, and I guess Bardane judged I'd need a hard lesson for it." He held his hands out then, his left still clutching the bloody sock.

Grave stood awkwardly by Torrid's side feeling useless. He stared at the floor where it disappeared under the swirling skirts of Euphrasia and thought over what had happened. He felt guilty for not offering Torrid solace when it had happened, but he still felt no pity for his mangled hands. He had been late, and Bardane - though a terrible and harsh lesson - had proved a point. Torrid himself seemed to have come to terms with it, so Grave too would do the same. He leaned softly against Torrid's elbow so that he would know he was at his love's side and lifted his clear eyes silently tot he clock on the wall. He hoped that Euphrasia worked quickly. It would not due to be late again for Torrid, and for Grave he was trying his best to never be late for a class.

Euphrasia listened attentively peering at Torrid's hand and wrinklnig her nose in disgust at the soiled sock. With two fingers she peeled the sock off Torrid's hand, and inadvertantly peeled some of the scabbing blood in the process. When she heard who was responsible for the injury she flashed dark eyes at him and said nothing for a long while. She dropped the sock daintily into a trash bin and bustled for gauze and antiseptic. It wasn't until she'd cleaned away the drying blood and the lint from the sock that she added softly. "Torrid, Bardane never picks on one student over another, it is unlikely he'll ever be cruel to you this way again. But you do understand that he is entitled to the use of such...methods?" Euphrasia dabbed at Torrid's hand with a cotton swab as she inspected the smashed gashes. "Afterall," she murmured, as if trying to distract herself from the unpleasant task at hand. "Bardane is very powerful and very wise. He's been serving the city for a long time. He's seen much in his years with us." She began wrapping his hand in soft white gauze. "Now this Torrid, is what you ought to be using, not socks - I don't care how clean they are!" When Euphrasia finished wrapping his hand she taped the edge of the gauze down and handed him the remainder of the roll. "Why don't you keep the rest of it sot hat you won't be tempted to use the other sock of the pair when you next incure injury, mmn?" She smiled kindly, although a little reprimanding at the same time in that flouncy motherly way of hers.

Aureus and Argentum walked with a bounce, their faces lit up with smiles. Their application had been accepted and now Argentum would have his chance to repay those at the infirmary for their rather loud intrusion not too long ago.

Holding hands, the pair made their way through the door and nodded to Euphrasia as they stopped off to the side. Aureus glanced at Torrid, not recognizing the boy but from the way his hands were wrapped, a wry grin replaced his airy smile. "Late for Professor Bardane's class, mmm? Not a lesson anybody needs to learn twice." He spoke with an air of knowing, remembering how both he and his echo were marched up to the front and administered the same reprimand.

"It'll heal quickly. Just don't try to play the piano or something."
Argentum smiled kindly, nodding, "Too much movement and you'll scar."

Turning so that he faced Euphrasia now, Argentum smiled once more, "At your service, Miss Euphrasia!"

Torrid nodded along to Euphrasia's words, listening but not feeling motivated to comment. "I understand. Thanks for the gauze..." He dropped the roll into his satchel, turning his head to the door as he hear a pair of footsteps there. He blinked, recognizing the pair of Echos there, but he couldn't recall where he'd seen them before.

One of them spoke, and Torrid laughed. "Yeah, I don't think I could forget that one if I tried." The second spoke then, and he listened well. "A'right... I don't really want a scar." He looked down at the bandages on his hands, tightening his fist a little to test their flexibility.

Argentum nodded, glancing over at the other as he flexed his hand and winced, "Doesn't that hurt?" He looked concerned as he turned around.

Aureus chuckled, "It's much better to be early with that class even though it's one of the less... appealing classes I've been to." He held a hand out, "The name's Aureus, and you might be?"

His twin nodded, offering his hand as well, "And I'm Argentum."

"Kinda." Torrid replied, feeling the ache like an unpleasent tingle. He turned to Aureus to answer him with a short chuckle. "I don't think I'd have minded law class so much if it didn't hurt to take the notes."

Torrid smiled sheepishly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, fellas... I don't mean to be rude, but I think I'll pass on the handshake today." He indicated his hands, bandaged and sore.

Aureus shrugged, settling for a pat on the back, "That's fine. It was silly to ask for a handshake. Some doctor I am." He laughed, embarrassed, "I suppose that would have made the class better."

Argentum immediately looked apologetic, letting his arm drop to the side, limp. "I'm sorry! This was my idea and here I am being inconsiderate!" He looked disappointed in himself and bowed slightly, "I hope I haven't offended you..."

Torrid laughed jovially. "It's okay guys, I appreciate the gesture. I promise to shake your hands when I'm better." He grinned to demonstrate that there were no hard feelings. "My name's Torrid."

There were soft voices floating through the dense fog that surrounded Jaenelle's mind. She struggled to understand what was being said, but the fog acted as inhibitor that wasn't willing to release it's hold just yet. The fog was not malicious; Jaenelle rather thought it was like waking up from a dream. In her dream, a pale face floated before her. The face of a pale, beautiful woman smiling at her and beckoning her closer. Jaenelle didn't walk towards her, she couldn't move at all, but the face came closer.
The woman was crooning and humming a hypnotic tune, coercing her into a state of utter calm and relax. She just smiled as the woman raised up a disembodied hand and laid it gently against her cheek. The woman rubbed her cheek slowly against Jaenelle's neck as a happy sigh escaped her throat. Jaenelle winced as she felt something sharp poke lightly at her skin.
Jaenelle screamed as the woman's fangs pierced her throat...

Jaenelle had sprung into a sitting position the moment her eyes had opened. The few moments it took to realize she had been dreaming felt like years. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest and sweat clung to her brow and hair. Taking deep breathes, her heart finally felt as though it wasn't trying to burst it's way through her chest. She closed her eyes and layed her hand on her forehead, the woman's face still clearly visable in her mind's eye.
Finally, she lifted her head and gazed around slowly. She remembered hearing vague voices in her dream and decided they must have come from the few inhabitants of the room. From the look of things, it was the Infirmary. With her head still spinning and her body suddenly too heavy to support, Jaenelle sank back onto the bed. She couldn't mask the groan that escaped from her lips.
How did I end up here? she asked herself. The last thing she remembered was the beautiful face of a women, then...nothing. She shivered, and realizing just how cold she really was, pulled the bed's blankets up to her chest.
Jaenelle licked her lips and cleared her throat. "H..Hello?" she asked softly, her voice barely more than a whisper.

Aureus and Argentum had been tidying up one of the equipment cupboards when the sound of one the long term patients stirring drew their attention. Exchanging glances they paused what they were doing and padded over to sit on opposite sides on the bed, their smiles a reflected in one another as Argentum spoke softly, voice kind, "Not so fast... Take it easy."

This one had been the victim of a Lamia and a lucky one at that. The proper authorities had reached her before the monster had killed her but it had still done enough damage to land her in the Infirmary for an extended period of time.

Aureus busied himself with finding a heavier blanket as he had surmised she was cold from the way she'd pulled the ones she did have up higher. "What's your name? Do you know where you are?" They were rudimentary questions so see if her memory had been affected at all.

Once he'd found blankets, a few spare pillows, and a pitcher of water, Aureus paused to nod at his Echo before disappearing elsewhere in the the infirmary. Argentum nodded in return and smiled reassuringly, "We're just going to get Euphrasia and then she'll look you over."

Relief flooded through her as her feeble summons was answered. She was hoping to see a familiar face, but was dissapointed when two identical ones appeared instead. She looked at them for a few heartbeats more to make sure she hadn't seen them before, then sighed softly in dissapointment.

All hope was regained though as they brought her a heavier, and warmer, blanket and her eyes grazed greedily over the pitcher of water. Her thoat was so dry from unuse Jaenelle doubted she would be able to carry on a normal conversation to save her life. The Blue One, as she named him in her head, began in with the questions. She motioned for a glass of water and after all of the contents were consumed, only then did Jaenelle dare talk.

"My," she croaked, "my name is Jaenelle. I'm a Stage Zero Melanchol-" Her voice died as she coughed softly. Clearing her throat, she tried again and this time with more of her usual force. "I know who I am, but not where I am." She looked around the room, having already studdied her companions. "However, I can surmise that I'm more than likely in the Infirmary. It would be unfamiliar since I've never been here before." Her voice suggested that she regretted the fact that she had to be here, instead of venturing in on her own power.

Feeling her muscles spasm in her neck, Jaenelle reached up a hand to massage it away. Her arm stopped abruptly as her eyes widdened in shock. She could feel the puncture marks the Lamia had left on her; a brand. Immediately she pulled her indigo hair aside to expose the bite marks. "Will these fade?" she demanded of The Blue One, since The Golden One had just left.

Argentum laughed softly and nodded, "A sharp mind. Excellent." He wasn't at all offended by the rather flippant words but rather amused and relieved by them. It meant she had her wits about her and was a good sign.

When the bite marks were exposed, he pursed his lips thinking a moment. "As far as I know they'll fade but you'll have scars. Perhaps Euphrasia or one of the other healers can hide the scars for you." He smiled reassuringly and reached out to lay a comforting hand on hers. "You've been a long time in recovery so please calm down. You don't need to strain yourself too much. The more you rest, the sooner you'll be out." He filled another glass for her, thinking that last part might garner her cooperation.

"My name is Argentum and my Echo, the one who just left, is Aureus. We're nurses here at the Infirmary so if you need anything just call we'll be here." He fluffed a pillow and set it out behind her.

Euphrasia bustled in, barely a step behind Aureus. Her Nurse had come to fetch her with news that Jeanelle had stirred, and Euphrasia had dropped everything to come running - practically.

She caught sight of Argentum at the bedside and Jeanelle fingering the marks on her throat and let a fluttering hand rest upon the jewels at her brow. "Oh heavens! Oh heavens!" She twittered to herself and fluttered tot he bedside.

"Hello, my dear..." Euphrasia chimed sweetly. "How are you feeling?"

Jaenelle ran her fingers softly over the two bumps and grimaced. To her imagintation, the puncture wounds felt colder than the rest of her body. She hoped they would fade, since she didn't want a reminder of what had occurred. As she layed her hand back down, realizing that no matter how many times she touched the skin the scars remained, and felt Argentum's hand lay softly on hers. She was about to protest that she didn't need more rest, but he was right in adding the conclution. She would do practically anything to get out of the Infirmary and back to her classes. If it ment resting, well...she'd just have to obey.

Gratefully she took the refilled glass and layed it against her lips, the cool water soothing her parched throat. "Thank you, Argentum. I'll remember that." Although smiling almost never came naturally to her, she gave him her interpretation of an appreciative one. Her eyebrows raised as the pillow was placed behind her, making her position all the more comfortable. Well, there was something to be said about light pampering.

Just then Aureus and a woman who Jaenelle asumed to be Euphrasia came bustling into the room. There was no mistaking the empathy and care emanating from her. Knowing that it was best to tell the truth in such situations, Jaenelle did just that. "I'm rather cold, my throat hurts although the water is helping, and I'm anxious to get back to my classes." She took another sip of water. "And I really wouldn't like to have these scars forever. The memory alone is enough, I think."
