[James- Like a shark...]

James smiled. His lance came off his shoulder, and his hands moved with practiced ease. He removed the lance's head, stashing it onto a strange harness upon his belt. Then, he worked on the shaft, breaking it down into two equal halves, which came to rest in sheathes upon his back. Then, his shield, strapped down over the whole thing.

He had a thin smirk on his face, as he walked away from the wall. He meandered around slowly, taking his time, making sure to pass within an arms length of all the guests, and hostess. Each time, his eyes rested on them, and seemed to be judging them.

Finally, his smile turned up a little more, as he approached his target, a woman in a mask, and a gown, one of the aristocratic nobles that had made their appearance.

He moved into her line of sight, giving her a bow and a flourish, "Lady... may I have this dance?" he asked her smoothly.

He stopped outside the crystal temple, wringing his hands, looking through the doorway. There were people. A lot of people. And music.

Last time, there was no one here, well, at first. Well, maybe that weird ghost, and the zombie where here before, but they didn't make themselves known at first.

And then people showed up, people that seemed, somewhat hostile, he thought, remembering Dune, and that strange guy's problems.

Did more and more of those people show up? The thought sent a shiver down his spine. After these past few weeks, he had grown accustomed to being alone. And now, more people. More people than he would have wanted to meet even back then. He could feel his heart seizing up, threatening to betray him as he tried to come closer.

Hunger, thirst, and lonliness finally drove him onwards, through the door. He moved as though he was on blinders, looking neither left nor right. He didn't even look, as his hand reached up, snatching a chilled drink from one of the wraith servers. He down the drink, without even tasting it, clutching still at the glass in his hand.

Finally, he circled wide, around the half ogre, and started nibbling on some finger food, his stomach quickly filling up, returning the color to his face. He let out a sigh, and took a seat on the floor, leaning up against the wall, keeping his nervous eye on all the strange people. Especially the half ogre, and the wraiths.

[Junkan- Huzzah?]

The large pile of ugly muscle actually flinched, when his name sliced through the veil of sleep, and into his dreams. His feet kicked, and his hands tried to claw at the glass floor, finding no purchase.

Slowly, his eyes opened, and the man stopped. He drew himself up into a sitting position. His eyes were wild, as they looked around, and finally, he settled down.

His eyes crossed over the woman before him, the woman that spoke his name. His lips drew back, revealing his rows of sharp fangs. His hands came up, reaching out around her, and tried to draw her in...

Masa's gaze fell to the ground as her cheeks went rose red again. "Well, there's just so many people you see...humans..." She trailed off, wishing the small mask she was wearing covered her whole face right now. 'I must sound like such an idiot...' She thought, taking a long sip of her drink. When she looked back up towards the man, he was looking directly at her. Her silver eyes flashed momentarily as they met his own, rather enchanting-looking eyes. For a few seconds, she was almost mesmerized, before she took into account what he said. "I know, I know...don't judge a book by its cover and all that..." She smiled warmly as she was starting to feel much more confortable with this man here. There was just something about him. "I'm sorry, I haven't even introduced myself...I'm Masamune, but you can call me Masa..." Still smiling, she held out her gloved hand. "Pleased to meet you...?" She trailed off questioningly as she awaited his name.

Merrick's first choice would have been to mingle with the nobles, but each of them seemed to be otherwise occupied...one of them with that beastly thing that had crashed the party. Oh, but who was that lovely woman sitting near the musicians? She seemed worth talking to, and without an escort, at that...

Straightening his strange outfit, Merrick weaved his way across the room toward Niva. Upon reaching the woman, he gave her a courtier's bow.

"This music is heavenly, isn't it?" he said, by way of breaching the ice.

[Odd Noble Woman a.k.a Dune]

The woman arched a brow at Junkan's movements and shook her head, evidently he was not a morning person so to speak and being woken up after he had engulfed half of the food probably wasn't the best of moves to make. Folding her arms across her chest she continued to observe the half-ogre ideally before giving a cluck of her tongue, almost in disapproval.

"My dear you are supposed to be wearing a mask." SHe warned silkly, refraining from coming near him regardless of the beckoning movements he was making, "And what did you do to that table exactly?"

[By the wraith and the champagne - Roan]

He seemed to contemplate whether or not to bestow his name upon the woman and appeared to decide against it. He simply offered a false smile that certainly didn't reach his eyes and instead shook his head uncomfortably as if to denote that he was not fond of bestowing his name upon anyone or anything, particularly in such surroundings.

"MASA!!!" A tiny voice shrieked below him as the Behebuncle and all too familiar knight barrelled across the dancefloor towards the young druid, "LADY MASA!" He repeated again, spreading his arms out wide as if he was going to hug her before Behebuncle slammed to an abrupt halt and he was thrown forward onto the peculiar man's boot.

"Onion." The man replied silkily, raising a brow at the fact that the pair knew one another.

"Roan my boy - watch where you put your feet!" He scolded, leaping to his feet and brushing down his armour as he approached Masa and offered her the largest grin he could provide beneath his helmet, "You're looking wonderful as always, how have you been since the attack on the forest?"

The man didn't say anything, at first, instead, he just finished moving, and embraced Dune, squeezing her roughly, unaware that , well, she might not be as durable as an ogre.

Finally he let go, and stood up, "Ta-ble? It good. Lots of fiber..."

Masa lowered her hand. "OK..." That definatly wasn't the response she was expecting. However, before she could react, she heard a shrill voice calling her name. "Onion Knight! Behebuncle!" She immedietly dropped to her knees to greet the two. Her expression was that of sheer joy. Placing her glass on the floor, she leaned forward and petted Behebuncle after he had come to a halt, before turning to Onion Knight. "It's so wonderful to see you two!" She then glanced up towards the man, smiling a little cheekily as she was pleased to know his name. "Roan then is it? That's a nice name..." She then quickly turned back to Onion Knight, still smiling. "I've been OK...I've been trying to help out the animals of the forest as best I can, and clean up some of the mess...anything I can do to help really..."

A smile overtook Ourania's face when she heard Quinn's voice, slicing through the crowd with a flamboyant statement about cupcakes. The summoner quickly slipped through the masses, careful not to make contact with any of the dancing or speaking couples, and ended up before the sweet-toothed woman. "Hello, Quinn." she greeted, a warm grin on her face. "This place is housing a rather stuffy affair tonight, isn't it?"

Beaming as Oura glided across the room towards her, Quinn sniffed the air and in reply to her question, answered, "Well, I can breathe ok, air seems to be moving fine... but these people sure are uppity." Grabbing Oura's hand and scooting over on her cushion, she pulled her friend down beside her and plopped a cupcake in her lap.

Then, in a completely uncharacteristic turn of events, she broke another in half and handed one half to Fiore and the other to the theiving Moomba. "All is forgiven," she intoned graciously.

Ourania giggled as she was physically placed on the cushion, accepting the cupcake with a delighted expression. She couldn't help but laugh at Quinn when the woman gave Fiore and Basape two halves of a cupcake as well. The moomba took it out of her hands and wagged his lion-isque tail before stuffing his face in the frosting. Fiore inclined her head graciously and nibbled, careful not to spoil her makeup.

"Thanks Quinn." Ourania intoned, taking a small bite of the white-cake. "I'm so glad that you're here... I don't recognize anyone."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 02, 2005 3:42 pm

"I dont recognize anyone either. At least you came late... I almost got eaten by an ogre... well, I think it was an ogre... kinda small, maybe only half an ogre, but it almost ate me just the same!"

Then, after a brief pause in which Quinn took a giant bite of cupcake, "I wonder why we had to come to this party... wonder what's gonna happen?" Though all any one really heard was, "Iwooonnaieadogumdodisparee... wonnawatsonnaappe?" Quinn smiled sheepishly and licked the frosting off of Oura's nose.

"An ogre?" The summoner questioned, horrified at the thought. She had seen no ogres on her way, but she had been airborne; Na'ir was a lovely chauffeur if one could ignore the incessant nagging.

But, of course, Quinn had already changed the subject. It took the pale woman a full minute to decipher what her friend had said around a mouthful of cupcake, and by then Quinny had already licked the tip of her nose. Ourania flushed in surprise at the action, then recovered enough to grin wickedly. "If I tried that with you I'd have to lick your entire face." she pointed out, eyes sparkling. She considered Quinn's previous garbled statement. "You know... I haven't a clue. Perhaps an announcement will be made soon? Or we could always question someone..." The part-time bookstore clerk looked around, feeling vaguely shy at the thought.

After watching the group of nobles enter, and then disperse amongst the other guests, Ky turned back around and faced the table. Eyeing it's delicacies thoroughly she finally decided on a palm sized fruit tart, and a glass of red wine.

Happily munching on her tart, and sipping her wine, Kyada slowly made her way towards the orchestra, drawn in by the unearthly melodies flowing forth. On her way she passed by a young man who had obviously been dancing his heart out, the thought of which lightened her heart and made her smile. Perhaps she'd ask him for a dance later...perhaps.

Resting on a bench near the orchestra Ky was once again whisked away. Music always seemed to remind her of the sea. The way the different sounds ebbed and flowed together producing such exquisite harmonies. It was truly magical. Ky sighed, how she longed to visit the sea again.

Returning from her daydream, Ky glanced around and realized how plain her mask was compared to everyone around her. "hmmm...Hey Misa." Ky inquired, hoping the bird hadn't decided to ditch her afterall. {Yes Ky?} "Ah good, come down here for a moment will you? I need your help with something." {Must I?} "No of course not, but I'd love you forever if you did." {Fine, give me a minute.}

A few seconds later Misa came fluttering down, careful not to crash into anyone as she made her way towards Kyada. Landing in Ky's lap unscathed, Misa began to nibble on the remains of the tart. {What do you need?} "I need a feather." Ky stated bluntly. Misa almost choked, and immediately took flight. {I don't think so! What an idiotic request.} "Would you calm down. I never said I wanted one of your feathers. What do you take me for!?" Ky shook her head, and motioned for Misa to return, which she did. "No, no, I want you to steal me a feather from someone!" Ky grinned. "Preferably that beautiful blue and white one over there. Do you see it?" {You're an idiot Ky. I mean really. I'm not stealing you a feather. You're mask is beautiful as it is, so just relax and enjoy yourself.} "Fine. You're supposed to help me out you know. Best friends for life, etc, etc." Misa didn't answer.

Smiling wolfishly, Quinn elbowed Oura, "Well, if you really want to," she quipped, closing her eyes and offering her face to Oura.
