Mer nodded, blowing the straw strands of hair across his face away. "I wish everyone thought that way."

Machus yawned slowly, stretching out as the sunlight had lulled him into a half-sleep. "Nnn... It's a pity. Many follow that ruling, that nothing needs more reason than a person likes it, but few ever really acknowledge it."

He nodded, not feeling like saying much. Plucking a peice of grass, he twirled it between his paws.

((Shh! Of course it didn't take Kara forever to post.))
It was true, the teenaged fox decided as he idly twirled one burgandy hued lock around a slender fingertip. As you get older, things get more... boring. No longer did Machus feel like a messy of lanky limbs he had yet to grow into, and this slowly shifted into something new. Everything felt as though it fit, but there was always that something missing. Others. Contact with other waywards. There was his family, sure, but what did he have beyond them?
Well... there had been that other male, a fox he remembered from before. Mer. Though he hadn't seen the older male in a while... and where could he be now? It didn't matter, he supposed. This was just how things were.
Fingers leaving his hair, Machus stretched himself languidly under the patch of warm light falling through the unblinded window.

Exasperated, Mer ploughed out of his family's little corner of the Wayward home. They were all driving him crazy. Simply batty. Feeling as though he could rip his very fur out, he stormed outside and headed towards the field, that field. The field where had met that other fox that seemed to think like him and didn't want to drive him off his freaking rocker. Mer had come here often since he had met that fox, but he never seemed to be around and then as his own family had grown, he soon had less time to visit. It seemed like ages since he had been here last.

Machus shook his head lightly, brushing the long brown strands back over one shoulder with a light sigh. It was exhausting. His 'family', for lack of a more appropriate word, seemed to throw together so many contradicting personalities... All he could really be thankful for at the moment was that he was free to get out since most of the babies had grown to the age where you could stick them in front of a TV or hand them a coloring book and crayons and they'd be occupied for hours.
No more babysitting for Machus, nuh-uh. Okay, ha. He wished. But he was determined to get some fresh air while he had the chance at it. Leaving the large building known as the Pound (though it was really more like a boarding house, he thought) behind him, the fox took his time strolling outside, enjoying the smell of fresh air.

Muttering about the idiocy's of his family, he plopped down on the grass with an long-drawn out sigh. Looking up at the sky, he noted it was growing darker with a small smile. He liked the night. Pushing his bangs from his face, he pondered ways to lock Charuan up and keep him under control.

It was great to be away from the noise. Yes, yes, yes. No shouting, no pointless arguing, no crying, no running back and forth, no crashing noises, no raised voices... Machus almost wished he could just stay outside forever. Almost. He was rather fond of his bed. And not all of his 'family' was impossible to deal with. Taika, for example. She would sit quietly and read for most of the time, or maybe hold a soft-spoken conversation with someone. But he could definitely do without Raviere and Toushi's energy levels, or Katsu's constant scheming and pranks.
Step after step, footfall following footfall, he didn't notice the fox lying in the grass until he'd nearly tripped over him. And in his defense, it was getting dark and the other was lying in the grass. But then again... he himself hadn't been paying too much attention, busy with reveling in the quiet and fresh air. "Oi, you shouldn't just lay out in the middle of-" nowhere? Well, what was wrong with that, if it was nowhere...? Yeah, Machus was definitely in the wrong... "here...." he trailed off weakly.

Mer, also lost in thought, hadn't noticed the fox approaching. Startled, he sat up, apologizing gruffly. "I didn't think I would be in anyone's..." he trailed off as he registered who was standing before him. "It's... you." Eyes widening, he stood, now looking the other fox in the eye instead of towering over him as he used to. "You've grown."

Machus arched an eyebrow at the other spoke, and it wasn't long before recognition dawned in orange-gold eyes, the fox lifting one hand to brush his hand back from his face. "Well, I would think it would be me, considering I'm not you or anyone else." Letting his hand fall back to his side, he couldn't help the amused smirk that twitched at his lips. "Oh, I would have hoped I had. And otherwise, you'd have shrunk."

Mer grinned back as he took as seat once more. "What a smart mouth we have now," he said, amusement in his slow drawl. Leaning back on the palms of his hand to look up at Machus, he looked pleased and content. "I'm glad it is you. I wouldn't want it to be anyone but."

Machus chuckled softly, shaking his head and smirking. "Well, someone's got to have it," he answered with a shrug. Arching an eyebrow, that smirk lingered. "Is that so? Then wouldn't you like to invite me to sit down?" he teased.

"Oh, but of course," he said grandly, sweeping his hand out at the spot next to him. Looking up at the fox he hadn't seen in years, Merloue smiled. He didn't even know his name and was sure the fox didn't know his either, but he still felt a... connection. He knew this fox, and the fox knew him. "How have you been anyway?"
