Lesson Two: Splitting Seeds
Splitting Seeds is a useful ability. Seeds need to be split to make Samples for Hybrids, and also to grow new fresh plants. A single Seed can only be split twice, but once the seedlings grow and bloom their first flower, their ripened seeds can also then be split. In order to split a seed, the Gardener must have completed their class with Quenda, who will teach the students how to properly split seeds. The entire process of splitting a Seed takes about 2 to 4 days, and the Seedlings take 1 school Period to become ripe enough to split again. Check the status of the classes to see how much time has passed since the seed was split. The best way to keep track is to split the seed you wish to split on the first day of a new class, and when the class is finished, you can then split the seedlings if you so wish.
Lesson Three: Hybrids
Hybrids are personally designed pets. They are created by splicing Hybrid Samples to make a new creature or plant. Both animal and plant types are intelligent, and neither can speak.
There are basically three end products you can create through Hybrid grafting: Fauna Hybrids, Flora Hybrids, and Animus Hybrids.
Fauna Hybrids:
Fauna Hybrids can be created by mixing any of the currently existing mammals, birds, amphibeans, reptiles, marsupials, or crustaceans.
Flora Hybrids:
Flora Hybrids can be created by mixing any of the currently existing flowers, weeds, trees, shrubs, lichins, fungi or mosses.
Animus Hybrids:
Animus Hybrids can be created by mixing at least one Flora Sample and at least one Fauna Sample.
Once you've decided on the Samples you wish to Graft, you need to take your Hybrid Samples to one of the registered Hybrid Incubation Technician. The Incubation Technician will give you an Incubator. Generally the more Samples grafted, the longer your Hybrid will need to incubate. When your Hybrid is ready, the Incubator will open, and the Hybrid will emmerge.
Hybrids are made from the delicate art of Grafting. Hybrid Samples are taken from the different sources desired for the final product. A minimum of two and maximum of five Samples can be fused, and may be drawn from the existing animal and plant kingdom. Specific qualities of the Samples can be grafted to create an ideal pet. Hybrids are useful for domestic or career-oriented tasks, but cannot be used for fighting. They can be trained and charged with specific tasks, like an intelligent dog, such as "Water these flowers" or "watch over and maintain this alchemical potion" or "guard this doorway". While one specific Hybrid can learn up to a maximum of three tasks, they can only be taught one at a time. Hybrids cannot breed, but require to be fed and/or watered depending on if there are both plant and animal components. Hybrids cannot use English, but they can communicate with their own sounds and noises, and are among the most demanding of Familiars for attention and praise. They can become quite ill or spiteful if neglected, especially if they are left alone to do tasks for their masters and never thanked or rewarded.
