"Only fire? Do you always need to gloves to do it?" Derek asked seeming truly curious. At Roy's mention of Risembool the man seemed to brighten considerably. "That's where I'm heading too." Derek exclaimed a but excitedly. "of course I'm visiting some family. Hey your a military alchemist right? One of the kids that used to live in Risembool became one I think. He and his brother lost their mom, you know him?" Derek questioned.

"Well I specialize in fire alchemy, These are special gloves I designed, but no I dont necessarily need them to do it, it just makes using alchemy so much easier"he said. He didn't necessarily need it, but it helped ignite powerful flames. Alchemy isn't always for everyone its a hard thing to understand. "Oh are you now?"He asked. "That's nice"he said. Hearing his line of questioning. "Yeah, I am"he said. "Yeah, I know them quite well"he said. Of course he knew he basically recruited Edward. "How do you know them?"He asked. He wouldn't be surprised that this man new Edward the Kid, had built himself up a name in towns.

Derek listened intently to Roy as the man talked about his alchemy. He nodded when the man said that the gloves made his alchemy easier but it wasn't the only way he could do his alchemy. As Roy answered his question about knowing the Elric brothers Derek smiled. "I don't know them, at least not really just by reputation. They're the biggest thing in Risembool." Derek said smiling.

Roy thought about the day he recruited the young one, the first time they met. It was the night the brothers lost everything, with human transmutation. "Yeah...Hero of the people, trouble makers, but I'd say they were good kids, the brothers, despite them never following orders."He said, remembering hearing the accomplishments the brothers made in towns and being their commanding officer in charge of them. "He's grown to be a strong, fine, young man"He said. Held the highest respect for the Elric brothers, he practically raised them, after that. Offered any support they needed. Most chances Edward gets himself into messes and he often cleans up his messes. He was more at this point their guardian, but now they were adults its different now? What now these feelings? His eyes shifted to the creature on the floor, sleeping. He took another drag of his cigarette, then began to flick the ashes into the tray.
Part of him still has hope he can help Edward change back. Even if that means doing things that were not ethical.
Gazing at the man before him, if he wasn't so messed up, he could have seen himself settling down, with someone like him! He flustered, at the mere thought and gazed away. He needed to clear his mind there was things he had to do, plus since when was he so attracted to men? Well besides he had the biggest crush on his old friend Hughes, they did have a few one night stands during the war, but aside from that the man got married. When Edward came back grown up, he had developed this crush on him, but how could he? So it was only two men he ever felt this way for. For the most part he loved women."Did you live in Risembool?"He asked.

Derek laughed when Roy said that the Elric's were good kids but that they never followed orders. "Well I guess that depends on how old they were, I know some kids from Risembool that still can't follow orders when given." Derek chuckled. When Roy said that Edward had grown into a fine young man Derek tilted his head slightly in an almost perplexed fashion. The chimera on the ground ears twitched a bit. It wasn't really asleep just pretending to be, it wasn't sure it could be asleep with the other man in the room. "It sounds like you really liked him." Derek stated smiling mischeviously at the man before him.
"Used to until I was eighteen. Now I live in Central. Needed to move to a big city. I like the country side but it doesn't really provide much growth for a person. Its why I come back and visit. Enough to fulfill my need for the quiet and yet do what I want. Its a great thing." Derek answered Roy.

It was true children were not one to follow orders and it was something he found out on his own, when he basically became their guardian in the military. It was odd because both of them really began to rely on each other, he meant those words out of respect. From being a brat, that was oddly likeable to being a strong man that's pretty reliable is a compliment, Roy could give. "..."He didn't deny or confirm what he said, at first. "He may have had his moments, but he had that affect on everyone. Its hard not to have a soft spot for this kid...He became someone you could depend on"He said, admitting to that. Everyone felt that way and all they wanted to do was protect Edward, they saw him as their own, in their odd family of a circle. It was something the blonde needed to hear he was loved and cared about by others.
It was a good thing he thought the other was asleep, otherwise he wouldn't have said this, if he was awake. Little did he know the chimera was wide awake. How embarrassing!
"That makes sense..."He said. Changing the subject, he didn't want to talk anymore about the blonde. Despite how tired he felt and he probably looked, he didn't want to be rude to the other man. He didn't mind listening. The dark circles and bags suggests this, besides there was no way he could sleep in front of a stranger, his surroundings kept him alert. It could have been years in the military that did this to him! There was no way he was gonna actually relax enough.Though the guy before him was pretty pleasing to the eyes, so he didn't mind being awake. It wasn't too often he could look at someone who was so aesthetically pleasing.
"What do you do for work?"He asked, yawning quietly to himself. He did it in the bend of his elbow.

Derek merely smiled when Roy neither confimed or denied his suspicion. It was almost amusing to the man to watch Roy battle with himself about his feeling for the Elric but Derek said nothing more on the matter. It was so evident in the words of admiration that Roy stated. He allowed the man to fully change the topic of their conversation. He could see how little sleep the man had had. The dark circles under his eyes was clear and evident in that fact. It meant he got more information out of the man if he pressed but he didn't want to do that just yet.
"Oh I used to work in this lab but it recently got closed down by the company so they're transfering me. They don't know where in Central yet which is why I have this time to visit family." Derek explained. "The lab I worked for, well most people weren't living up to standards so they were terminated. I was deemed still valuable hence the transfer." he continued.

Without Roy realizing this the man had given him the answers he was looking for! If he wasn't so tired he would have picked up on this hinting. Especially since the man talked about Edward! If he had paid more attention, he had not only been tired, but the others good looks were quite distracting!
He placed a wary smile on his face, hearing him. "I see..."He said. "Im glad you can at least spend it with your family. and that's good you still have your job"He said. He was finally nice and relaxed from the cigarette and he put the rest of it out. "I apologize to you in advance if Im not so talkative. You don't get much sleep in my line of work"he said.
Why the hell was he apologizing to the stranger?! But then again he would feel this way a lot especially if he ever had a date, cause the military life was rough. You do a lot of inhumane hours of no rest. The stress he felt was gone for some odd reason? The cigarette did help ease his nerves.

Derek smiled at Roy, it seemed the man wasn't picking up on his subtle hints which was good for the man. "I am thankful for both of those things." Derek stated seemingly genuinly thankful about them, Of course what Roy didn't know is those that hadn't been captured at the lab had been pemanently silenced if they had been deemed not valuable."You don't need to apologize, please if you need a nap take one I can be quite quiet." Derek said motioning to Roy to sleep. He wondered vaguely if he could get the chimera out without waking the state alchemist,

"Oh no, I'm quite alright, this is nothing. I remember being a whole mont deployed and got in a whole month's span two hours at most a day of rest"Roy said, talking about falling asleep. "Once I get to my destination, I will rest"he answered. He pulled out of his bag an energy drink. he planned on being awake the entire time. For him this is nothing, the military had him do intense shifts where they would get maybe an hour to two hours of sleep. He opened up the can and sipped it, he then pulled out a crossword for him to actually work on.
About twenty minutes of doing the crossword he got bored and pulled out his book to read.

Derek smiled as Roy turned down his offer to let the man sleep, though on the inside he was disappointed. "Well then I suppose you are more than equiped to handle a couple hours of a train ride without sleep." Derek chuckled. Derek let things fall quiet when Roy pulled out a crossword and then later a book. He himself had pulled out a book as well and remained quiet and reading for most of the trip. It was hours later that the train pulled into the station at Resimbool. "Here we are." Derek annouced.

"I dont sleep until I accomplish my tasks at hand"He said. Normally if he wasn't under a ton of stress he was a slacker at his job. Often Riza had to motivate Roy to finish his job or scold him, to actually do his job. He felt himself dozing off since it got so quiet! Though every so often he felt Edward on the floor move his mouth, since his face resting on his foot. Or he felt his paw tapping him.
Hearing the man he gazed out the window, "So it would seem"He said. Once they reached the station he watched the man get his things. He himself went to gather his things and wake Edward up.

Derek nodded when Roy said that he didn't normally sleep until he accomplished his task. "What task is it that you are supposed to be accomplishing right now? I thought you said you were merely going to visit a friend." Derek stated almost teasingly but at the same time he was fishing for information. He wanted to know the man's plans. He sat back once Roy had answered him and read while watching. Everytime he saw the man start to doze off he hoped he would fall asleep fully but it seemed also that everytime the man started to doze the chimera shifted just slightly. Gathering his things as they reached their station he turned back to Roy. "I hope I am not being to forward, but I would love the opportunity to speak with you again. Would you be open to the possibility of dinner?" Derek questioned Roy.
The Chimera wanted to snap at the man in the carriage with them but it knew better than to cause trouble in this space. The human side of it claimed that they would get tossed into a smaller cage and probably killed if they went after him now. So the animal side conceeded to bide its time for a better opportunity. It continued to pretend to be asleep for most of the trip shifting only when it sensed Roy falling asleep. Making sure to move just enough to awaken the man fully knowing that letting him fall asleep now would be dangerous for the both of them. When they finally arrived and Roy shifted to get his luggage the chimera stood stretching a bit before facing the man in the carriage. The fur on the back of his neck raised a bit at the sight of the man but he did nothing more than stand prepared.

Roy wasn't going to truly rest until he found the person who didnt this to Edward! "I am, its just falling asleep on trains isn't something I wanna do. The fear of missing my stop"He said. It would be a good chance he misses the stop. He gathered his own things, he of course dodged the man's question. Then blinked, hearing his statement about possible dinner plans? "Huh?"He answered, it was an odd request from another man! His heart had fluttered, a bit embarrassed. Why does he feel like he heard this line before? Oh yeah....He himself would use this on the ladies. He just never thought he would hear this from another man. "I dont see why not?"he shrugged, not reading much into this, his cheeks were a little red.
The flame alchemist had their things and noticed Edward?! His hackles were raised? Why?! Hearing low growls? This was not like Edward? As he was about to piece things together his thoughts broke, hearing the man of the train, letting them know they can exit. Just had their tickets ready! "Sir can I have you releash your dog?"The man said.
Roy sighed, as he gazed at Edward, "Im sorry boy"He said, to the blonde. He releashed him despite, not liking this. After they left, they would have to hike a mile to the Rockbells house. Which was fine in all, he would let the other roam freely. They exited the train, he felt like something wasn't right?! He didn't realize the man was following him, as they left the station. Normally people had rides, it was safer to travel on foot and let the blonde roam freely. He gazed over his shoulder, seeing the man walking behind him? Walking to his family house?
Once they were a half a mile away from the station he unhooked the canine's leash, trusting he will follow him! He suddenly felt the touch of the man's hand on him, which distracted him from the truth. "It can't be too far if your also walking?"He asked.

Derek laughed when Roy said his lack of sleeping on the train was from fear of missing his stop. [ B]"I can understand that." Derek stated. Derek smiled as innocently as anyone when Roy blinked at his the smile almost hopeful and a bit fearful. As if the man seemed to be afraid of rejection. When Roy said that he saw no reason Derek seemed to light up with excitement. "Great, let me give you the number you can call me at." the man said hastily digging into his bag to acquire some pen and paper. Writing down the number he handed it over to the alchemist, ignoring the soft growls coming tomorrow the chimera as he moved close to Roy. Derek knew the beast wasn't stupid enough to attack him there. But if they were ever alone he would have to watch out. Right now he was going to rely on the population of people and the alchemist before him to assume his innocence. With the number given he bid Roy goodbye and exited the car to the platform. He had of course every intention of finding out where the dark haired man was taking the creature.
The chimera watched the blond man leave settling a bit until Roy was asked to release him. "No..." the chimera whined pitifully as Roy apologized and did as asked. He knew it wasn't the man's fault really and didn't fight it this time. Still the creature hated it and scratched at the collar a moment before following Roy off the train. The chimera was well aware of the blond nearby and following as they left the station. Hackles raised minimly as he kept track of the man ready for an attack. As soon as the leash was unlocked from the chimera's neck he spun around and snarled just as Derek touched Roy's shoulder. He gave a slight lunge forward when Derek suggested walking together and the man scurried back a bit. "Woah, easy there boy." Derek stated.
