Shun Kuroda 25/25 - Nominating Alg to Adoelle and Sorrowful One

At some point, Shun did finally make his way over to what was now the silver hall. He wasn't too keen on getting all that close to the council where they sat, so he just went ahead and approached the Sorrowful One.

"Algernon will help make the right choice," he uttered quietly. Before stepping away, he caught Adoelle's gaze, then just nodded to her.

Isobel Penrose || 25/25 HP || nominating Algernon

She hadn't known who to vote for when people started talking in the plum parlor, but thankfully Zac had stepped up and said who'd be the best choice; she trusted Zac implicitly and had even considered nominating him, but decided on second thought that she didn't want her friend to have to make that sort of choice. And if he trusted Alg, then that was good enough for her - he knew a lot more than she did, about other Ashdown and the people here tonight.

So shyly, Tibbie made her rounds to the council members, advocating Algernon as the seventh member. She 'um'ed a lot and got herself off-topic more than once, but managed pretty well overall she thought.

After that she floundered for a few minutes, unsure what to do. Should she just... find somewhere to go? She felt a bit lost, scanning the crowd for familiar faces and- aha!

Making a beeline towards Juniper and the unknown man with her at the drinks table, Isobel smiled shyly at the pair as she came close. "Juniper! Hi! Are you here to vote for, um, Alg too?"

Juniper Wilcox (Maskless) | 25/25 | Talking up Alg

Juniper had been so focused on Hux that when Isobel appeared at her side, she blinked at the other girl for a moment. For who? What? OH! It clicked and she looked up at the hosts. "Yes. Right. Of course, Tibbie. I just haven't gotten around to it yet, but I'll do that now." She gave the girl a grateful squeeze on her shoulder, deposited the masks on the table beside her, and headed towards the group after giving Hux a 'wait a moment' look.

With a courteous, but forced smile, Juniper addressed the 6 council members. "I am going to put my nomination in for Alg. I believe he will be able to best represent all of us and work with all of you." Short and sweet. It was about all that Juniper was willing to do or say as she turned on her heels to return to the table where she had deposited the masks.

Flute still in hand, she sipped at the liquid, and cast a scathing look up to the council members. "I don't like this." She sighed.

Isobel Penrose || 25/25 HP || warm and fuzzy for having done something right

Tibbie smiled brilliantly at Juniper as the older woman gave her shoulder a squeeze, happy that she'd made the decision to come over.

As Juniper went to make her case, she turned her smile on the man who'd been with the older woman as she arrived. "Hello! I'm Isobel, or Tibbie - oh but you already knew that because Juniper..." Cue awkward laugh. "Um, nevermind then. It's nice to meet you; are you another human?" There was innocent curiousity written all over her face and body language.

That was about all she managed to get out before the older woman was back, though. "Me neither," her good mood falling somewhat, she frowned at the council members - only for a moment, and then she lost her nerve and had to look away. "I hope everything goes well with the, um, you know." She made a few hand gestures that absolutely didn't clarify anything.

25/25 | Shiloh Beaumont (unmasked) | so many people...

Shiloh was busy glancing between the approaching guests and Chel when Thorne inevitably came back, causing his shoulders to droop slightly with relief. Even if there were still a number of insecurities plaguing at his mind, Thorne's presence was still a comfort. He's proximity felt like protection. At the snippet between him and his double, Shiloh frowned with a pursed lip. Have fun?

He shook his head of the matter, not wanting to dwell on them for the moment. The night would be coming a crux soon, and he needed to be ready for... whatever it entailed. Shiloh honestly wasn't sure. His eyes caught Chel again as she beckoned him, and he threw a worried look at Melany from the corner of his eye. Of course, he hadn't been present for the altercation between the two of them, but... he couldn't just leave.

Then again, Thorne had, hadn't he? Oh, even though it was bad; such a bad idea...

Melany took a step forward to address the growing crowd, and Shiloh sprung on his chance.

Carrying himself swiftly across the floor, he approached Chel with a delicate unease. "Yes, Miss? Do you require something?" the formality had been lacking back in the atrium, but he meant it to show unfamiliarity. No, he did not know Chel, of course not... at least, that's how he wanted it to look if Melany glanced over. A guest was beckoning him—perhaps they needed help of some variety—and he was ever the gracious servant.

"Make it quick." he hissed under his breath, tone not at all matching the delicate smile on his otherwise exhausted face.

Chel | 15/25

Chel very carefully positioned herself so as to be facing away from Melany/Ezra/??? and then pulled the scaled mask from her pocket. She hid it from view by holding it on her stomach, looking about like she was discussing the scenery or something equally blithe.

Chel was reckless and downright stupid at times, but if there was one thing she could do it was read people. She watched as he placated his expression and matched it with her own, letting him keep the facade up because she knew it was probably his only safety against whatever the court had done to him.

"Jeremiah told me to give you this. It'll keep you safe an' hopefully when this shindig is over we can take you home." She didn't make any moves to touch Shiloh or force him to take the mask, only raised an eyebrow at him, awaiting his response to the "gift."

    25/25 | Shiloh Beaumont (unmasked) | hhhHHH

Shiloh blinked rapidly at the presentation of the mask. He wanted it; not because it was a mask, but because it looked vaguely turtle inspired, and he had quite the appreciation for that realm of aesthetic. Still, his placid smile turned to a frown.

"I'm not so sure." he said, voice low, "Besides, it might be of more use to hand that over to someone else." his hand reached out, gently pushing the mask back towards Chel. What was the worst that could happen? Death?

Melany had told him he would survive, so long as he obeyed her. Leaving her side was probably enough of a disrespect as it was.

"Do enjoy the rest of the night." he gave Chel a small curtsy, wondering who Jeremiah was and why the name sounded vaguely familiar (Old friends, old friends, old friends...); it didn't matter in the end. Instead, he quickly returned himself to Melany's side, careful to avoid any unnecessary eye contact in case she had noticed. If she asked? Well, Shiloh would be truthful of course.

He bowed his head with respect, with submission. His shoes clicked together as he took up his poignant stance once again.

Chel | 15/25

"We all voted, actually," Chel said. It wouldn't be more useful to someone else; "We all agreed that gettin' you all out safe was the most important thing t'night."

But the mask was pushed back in her hands and Shiloh backed away. She quickly pocketed it again; her cover was gone and she had to be careful about how she did this. Even the smallest discrepancy could end her clutched in two fists once more. "Enjoy yers too, bro." It might be his last one.

What was she supposed to do now? She'd promised Jeremiah she'd do it. But if the guy didn't want it ... ? Chel lived for freedoms, and freedom to choose was one of those things.

She could at least focus on Thorne for now. That was a task she could move towards.

Unfortunately the gimmick wouldn't work twice; Melany/Ezra/??? had returned to the doubles' side. Chel knew she was going to have to take a risk.

Shiloh retrned and Chel floated around the room for a bit so as to not cause suspicion but eventually she snuck up on the small group, approaching Thorne this time. She gave Shiloh a quick glance; don't blow this. It was all a risk.

"Thorne you ain't said hi all night," she said casually. "I ain't know half these council people- you mind takin' me on a walk t'figure it out?" That part wasn't entirely a lie. Chel had no clue what was going on.

Jamie Delacroix | 20/25 | nominating Algernon

From one member of the council to another, Jamie worked up the nerve to mutter his belief in Alg's capabilities in a way that was casual and non-invasive, but genuine. Even with his attempts and despite his beliefs, it sounded a little forced.

It could've been any of the adults in Jamie's life, honestly, because all concerns aside, they had experience far beyond his own. Maybe the professor would be low key but diplomatic enough to have their suggestions heard. There was little to do now but have faith.

Not that Jamie was all that sure of what had been decided on, though. Adoelle as the tithe.. it was apparently what she wanted, but was it right? Would it work in their favor? Did they have to see someone die tonight? Jamie hated to think about it, so he tried not to. There were other things on his mind. There were tired and sunken eyes.

He saw Shiloh at the Spinel Lady's side and once he'd finished speaking he lingered, wanting nothing more than to speak with him, but feeling far too out of place to do so. For a moment he thought about the makeshift second family they'd formed with the grandpas, with Chris, with Thorne... After all this was over, would things go back to normal? Was it wishful thinking to believe they could? Probably, but Jamie found himself clinging to some small hope regardless.

Be careful, his eyes said to Shiloh from behind his mask, the one he wore even if he didn't need it anymore. Please.

jack | 25/25 | headachey

Jack had a similar mood to Connor's as he approached the council. Maybe it was the ongoing headache this entire affair had caused, maybe it was just the instinct to cling to something (someone) he actually knew in all this, or maybe he too was just being difficult for the sake of some annoying "moral victory". Whatever it was, the tall photographer found himself pitching his old friend Chris to the council with polite statements that went to the crux of the argument: namely, that he already dealt with children on a daily basis and could handle himself well enough in affairs supernatural or otherwise.

(Alright, so he didn't mention the children part. But he might as well have. Jack was just irritable right now.)

He joined Connor off to the aside once he was finished, rubbing at his temples with a scowl. "Here I thought you were a party man," he said, glancing at Connor before turning his gaze outward to find Chel, who he hoped hadn't found more trouble on her simple delivery task. "Not having fun?"

Lily Babineaux: 25/25 - Nominating Algie

Lily hadn't formed all that strong of an opinion of any of the available candidates to represent them, but she knew if she didn't vote then she didn't have the right to complain about it later when things began to go horribly wrong. When it came down to it, she followed Eve's example--Pack-mom had plenty of sense and savvy, and from the sound of things it wasn't an unpopular choice to make.

Approaching each of the council members in turn, she waited patiently for the opportunity to speak. "If there's anyone who knows what's up about the human opinion, it's Professor Mercer." A short spiel, but one that was easy to recite six times.

The council broke away from the group and clustered together. It was a short discussion; before long they returned, the heavily veiled Sorrowful One trailing obediently behind the rest.

"My friends," Melany said, spreading her hands wide for their attention again. "We are pleased to honor Algernon Mercer with an appointment to our erstwhile group. Though our human guests are many, it is tradition that only one of them holds the right to confer with us, the nobility of the Court."

She lowered her hands. "Algernon Mercer, please join us as we adjourn to discuss the matter of the tithe."

With the Council gone, Lace rises to take her place. The horrific visage of the bog-body corpse has vanished, again replaced with Lady's likeness: red hair piled high on her head, black lacquer over her eyelids with tiny rubies set into the thick paint. "Our dear human guests," says Lace. "While my lady is indisposed, my siblings and I are here to entertain you." She curtseys. "To answer any questions you may have while our other guests are busy."

    jeremiah mercer || 27/27 || lace, what up > : (

Jeremiah stalks towards Lace, eyes glowing. "I see you found another mask," there is a smile on his face that is full of dangerous promise, "but I want to know why this court is Melany's."

Especially given that it was starting to seem as if her opinion, to see the cage stay, was an unpopular one. The words of the ring echoed in his mind but he still knew not what to do with them.

Shun Kuroda 25/25 Skulking

Shun watched as Algernon went off into the room where it happens, along with the rest of the council. Hopefully he will be able to sway them. The tithes had gone off now as well. From the looks of it... all who were taken ended up going. What happened to the extra masks?

He furrowed his brow, then turned as one of the doppelgangers spoke up, regarding her warily. As Jeremiah went towards her, he quietly made his way closer as well, but he kept silent for the time being.
