Kai "Raidou" Kuzunoha
Though Raidou had mastered the magatsuhi in his body better than most humans, even the talented summoners around him, even he could feel the strain of it as he fought off another horde of the barbarous Garm that served as the frontline beasts of Hel. They were being used like wardogs, chasing down any prey they could find and gnashing them apart with their teeth, and he doubted that they had any restraints put on them. These were the end times, and humans were meant to become a footnote in the history of the eternal war between good and evil. But Kai had a different opinion on that matter, for he was both an arbiter of and believer in the strength that humanity possessed. Demons had terrorized the shadows for years, and now they had stepped out into the light. But that would be their final mistake...and it would be in the light, where they died.

Luckily for Kai, Tokyo was the center of the Devil Summoners and the headquarters for the Yatagarasu, but where they usually used their allies among the police, self-defense force and other organizations to maintain peace, now their relative powerlessness meant that hooligans with strength felt the need to flex their fake muscles wherever they could. A gang near the Detective Agency was trying to rob a store, and it seemed they were able to summon a couple of Oni in order to help them convince the shopkeeper and her son to move out. It was that kind of scum that Kai enjoyed beating the s**t out of the most, and though they should have died right then and there as an apology, he didn't have the time to waste dolling out that sort of punishment today. No, instead he would accept their surrenders, and leave the shitstains in the street, in their underpants and tied up. If the owner wanted to save them, that was her choice...but the city was no place now for those who turned on their own kind.

Raidou survived this world of demons, which paled in comparison to the Dark Realm. Obviously.

Kai "Raidou" Kuzunoha
A group of Dark Summoners were making their move on the Nagasaki Shrine on the west side of the city, and though Kai doubted that the Herald would really be harmed a considerable degree by such attackers, the thought of getting in a brawl pleased him plenty. The shrine was actually one of the places to be now. It had many wards to hold off the creatures of the Dark Realm in the first place, and now that the Dark Realm was spilling out into the real world, that meant that it's barrier was stronger than before. Plus, the Inari who had long offered their protection to it were now free from their earthly stone prisons, and their goddess would have broken out of her own cage due to the weakening of the realm. In short, the Yatagarasu's backup plans were now reaching full effect, and any weakness they might have shown before was vanishing fast. After all, they were ordered to guard creatures of untold power, and rebellious beings like Masakados. To let their barrier fail in a crisis like this, would spell a disaster far worse than this official barrage...and might even be the true beginning of the end.

Near the shrine Kai was overrun by a number of lesser enemies, spirits that found the forested area on the western side of Tokyo both particularly homely, and at the same time an excellent place to lure humans into. The demonic energies turned the forest into a maze like catacomb, and though to the human eye there was nothing stopping them from escaping, in truth the attempt by demons to manipulate the minds of humans with energy would have left most wandering around until their deaths. Luckily, as a Kuzunoha Kai could purify the area, and save any future passerbys on their way to the shrine...and in the process, collect plenty of Macca to pay their death tolls to the reaper.

Inugami were a vindictive spirit born from a curse that humans put on each other. In fact, it originated with a method in which spiritualists would starve a dog, bury it in the ground, and then cut off it's head when it was starving and reaching out for a plate of food they placed just out of reach. It was meant to turn that hatred into a plague that they would use on others, and so they were some of the vilest spirits Summoners met, although they were weak. But in a pack, they were quite troublesome, and Kai was now beset by a number of their kind who wanted solace for their undeserved and particularly horrible deaths. Kai could only offer them peace in the afterlife, and though that might mean sending them back to where they came, the Dark Realm was likely a far more pleasant place for the animals turned curses than any in the human world. His heart went out to them.

That demonic b*****d Obelyn was making another offer to anyone who could take out a leader of the demons of Hel, and while there were remarkably few who wanted to hunt down a rampant Nidhogg, Kai was a Kuzunoha first and foremost and thus willing to take on the risk. The problem with this new world, where their communication was cut off, was that the top brass of the Kuzunoha couldn't give the rogue Raidou anymore orders, or they likely would have had him protecting some pathetic VIP or hunting down the seventh curse-baring fiend from some ill-begotten and long-forgotten religion. That wasn't his style though, because killing these nasty deed-bearing beings, like a human consuming Nidhogg, made him stronger, and they were right up his alley...and following them might just lead on a trail to the one behind it all.

To call an army of insectoid demons a mere swarm would be like calling an army of giants just a small band of brigands. The creatures were nothing like their human world counterparts, and instead of eating whole fields of grain they might end up clearing whole neighborhoods of humans if left alone, even if they were seemingly unprovoked. The concrete that build many of the shelters in the area was more like cardboard to them, and though it might take them a while they would definitely do significant damage to the city if left alone. Raidou knew that this was a threat worth facing, and while he didn't feel like doing it was going to bring him any particular honors, he definitely wanted the challenge that came with facing some of the most monstrous beings (at least in appearance) the Dark Realm had to offer.

Of course, the downside of fighting a swarm of carnivorous bug demons was that sometimes, the rumors made them out to be way more threatening then they actually were. These were nothing like the bug ninja's tools from the Tsukigata village, and were easily disposed of.

Though Kai was nearly out of the forest, the sudden buzzing from behind a tree alerted him to one of the bug demons that must have survived from the previous encounter. It was vengeful too, pursuing him this far while trying to be stealthy. But he had learned anti-human tactics first, and not even the fleeting sounds of a ninja's footsteps would escape his ears, so the pathetic droning of a bug's wings proved no more bothersome to him, nor any more secretive, than a collection of angry peasants gathered in a mob. It sprung it's trap, and his blade cleaved it cleanly in twain, ending the battle before it began.

Demons ain't s**t, as the great Dahn Tsukigata use to put it while slaying their kind using his own special breed of luck bugs. Put that way, Kai wasn't surprised when he ended up stomping out the life of a Slime that came slurping up towards his ankles only to be stepped on by the Kuzunoha, who didn't even look down to pay it mind or realize that such a thing was blocking his path. Some demons were just that pathetic...seriously.

It would be a lie to say that Dante and Raidou hadn't crossed paths before, even if you were referring to a different Raidou Kuzunoha altogether. That said, the two were both very loose cannons in the midst of what was essentially the greatest warring battleground of the century. Even in the ancient days there had been nothing like this, and yet the Bounty Hunter and the Devil Summoner on the lamb were two forces that walked through the cities as if they were capable of parting the waves themselves. And the waves did part, if only the waves of demons that sought to block them, and if the tool by which they were separated was a pair of blades. Both held no particular hatred for the creatures who started this war, and while they were well equipped to deal with it, each had a soft spot for humanity that they were willing to indulge. In that sense, Raidou and Dante could almost be friends...but nothing so lame as that. Instead, the two might split a pizza sometime. But the coin would decide who paid, of course. Disposing of the Inugami would have been easy, he'd taken care of a group of the demons before. But getting the cursed spirit to work for him would be a boon to Kai's fighting power, and the Inaba student turned protector of the Capital was willing to accept any help he could get, even if it were from some disreputable demons as well. The time for being picky and choosing was long past, and now the bottom of the barrel was being scraped clean by either side. Plus, the vicious nature of Inugami made it a perfect partner for Raidou, so in time it might just pull it's weight...and if not, then serving as fusion fodder would still make a poignant use of it's name. Kai forked over the Macca, just as he'd promised, and a small smile clearly appeared on Dante's face. He'd heard the demon hunter had a notorious problem getting paid for his jobs, so this was probably like a holiday at the beach for him. The Yatagarasu had taken to paying him for any serious demons he could eliminate in Tokyo, because the city was so important to the organization, and Kai was the only one who could safely find the demon hunter in the throng of the demons, so here he was offering what amounted to the change required to buy a pizza to one of the most powerful creatures you could ever encounter, and yet Dante's face said that he was simply glad to be gettin' change from an equal. Kai would have liked to fight him, but not without his demons...now wasn't the time, and when their rivalry did come to blows, he'd make sure that Dante put every cent of this back on the line. Then, Kai would teach him a thing or two about getting cocky, no matter how powerful of a demon he was...and he'd be the one buying dinner, when all was said and done. An ambush! It seemed that the Dark Summoners from before were returning, and seeing as how they weren't happy keeping their lives when he let them go last time, this time he was definitely going to make sure they paid for their mistake. He thought that they might prove useful, like the Rasputin he'd heard of of old, but anyone this stupid wasn't going to be helping Japan survive this time of conflict with the Dark Realm. No, instead he was going to make sure that any traitors to the human race got what they deserved, and if he could harness his emotions he might even draw out a special demon. He'd heard of them bowing to a specific desire or feeling buried in a person's heart, and while it hadn't happened yet, he would aim for something like that...a truly ferocious, powerful beast. Damn it! Quote: 63 Tokens 20 Macca Unicorn(+2) S.Link: Dante(+2)
