This was a bit TOO specific, but he already set his plan of mental action as pretending nothing was going on, and despite being called out, he was still pressing close against Lawr. Just a minute. If he could just get away with one minute, then he would be sane again. All he needed was to feed these thoughts a little nibble...

..nibble...

He shook his head and called out, his current drive overtaking shock, surprise, and horror. He had a mission and that mission was no longer helping with an artifact. It was being left alone in a dark corner with Lawr to get SOMETHING!

He wanted to ask HOW Rep knew this, but he wasn't about to confirm anything.

Deny.

Deny.

Deny.

He might have the smoking gun in his hand - or was trying to - but be wasn't about to admit a damn thing right now. His chances were slim but he wanted so much right now.

"I'M NOT DOING ANYTHING BUT STANDING HERE! I CAN'T EVEN SEE ANYTHING!" And how could Rep?

If there was some way he did see, how well? Could he play it that Rep's somehow magical sight was poor and not reliable? He hoped so.

Rep could not ******** believe he was being called a liar, questioned about what he could ******** see when he could see it more clearly than he'd ever wanted to. He felt like he was maybe going to cry, cry or launch Tracey across the room at the other men. Maybe both.

Lawr though, despite every single inch of him wanting nothing more than to ignore the angry and irritating redhead, had a feeling they were going to have no luck at all. Still, it was easy to simply relax and let Melvin take the blame for ignoring the anger while he hoped that a small localised pit would open up under Rep and have him vanish into the darkness forever.

"I absolutely am not." Lawr said, this time not able to keep a bit of the breathlessness out. "We are just stuck on the same tile and you are projecting."

Rep snarled in anger and upset "I'M NOT PROJECTING I CAN SEE YOU ******** BOTH" And then in a tone that sounded much younger than the almost 30 year old man making it he said "ACE MAKE THEM STOP."

"Rep's not a liar!" Harrison growled.

Harrison undid the clasp in his pocket (the one Jordan had made for him), and took out the binoculars he'd mentioned earlier. He flipped the button on over to night vision.

Yep.

He put the binoculars away. And wiped them on his shirt, as if it would fix ********, you two. Have a little decorum. ...There oughta be an open door, somewhere. Me and Rep are headed to the next room."

"Um. Guys?" Rodney asked.
PostPosted: Sun May 22, 2016 3:32 pm

Oh no. Rep was sending Harrison over.

Wait. Harrison was coming over.

No, Harrison would not be down for that. Rep would not be down for that.

Why couldn't more people be down for that. He was down for that. The mission would be a lot better if everyone was down for that.

He wished he could get that.

Melvin wanted to whimper, so close but stopped. Everything in this corner was warm, inviting, and waiting for him, and he gritted his teeth, angry it was interrupted.

"Seeing HOW? It's dark as dicks in this room? I've been groping a wall most of the time I've been in here!" And the other time - well, he was still groping.

"Bye." Lawr said decadently. "We'll catch up." And then very decidedly took the cue from Harrison to completely ignore Rep as he'd be leaving imminently anyway. He was a very ill man after all, it would practically be discrimination to force them to come along after the others without him getting what he wanted.

Rep was deeply upset, deeply deeply upset and he'd be having words and probably fights with people later over this.

In the meantime he made his way over to Rodney, took the other man's hand firmly in his calloused one. "It's Rep." he said "We are leaving these ******** debauched ******** pricks, let's go on ahead." He didn't even like Rodney but he wouldn't subject his worst enemy to being in the same room as any of this. "I'll be having nightmares for ******** weeks." And with that he headed towards the door with the other man in tow.

"Well........." He said, hearing the footfalls of their party walk out of the chamber. Usually he would be quick to deny, make distance, and walk out immediately, but that was when he had that sort of willpower. There would be no way he could even walk, let alone continue a mission, if he didn't do something about it.

"Alright. I believe I left off righhhhttt here...."

Melvin walked out of the chamber feeling both refreshed yet guiltier now that he could focus on the situation again. Still, what was done was done (and done well) and he wasn't able or wanted to turn back the clock even if he could. He looked around for the others. "What's next?"

Quote:
gaia_crown [ Round 4 ]

gaia_star SECRET ROOM:
You are in the FINAL ROOM! It is time to cross the precipice of doom! This is the final moment!
- Only the GM can cross this area. It is a long narrow ledge that is INVISIBLE. All you can see is an expanse of black and then the artifact at the end!
- Each player can offer an assist based on their class! The goal is to get the GM (the person who wants the artifact) across safely!
- The GM needs to cross 5 safe tiles. Make sure you tally your tile count as you move! They will do this by rolling a 6-sided dice 5 times (until they reach the end).. If odd, their roll is safe. If even their roll is UNSAFE and they blow up! If they blow up, and they have no more assists below (you can use an assist prior to actually blowing up if usable still) then THE WHOLE TEAM IS EJECTED FROM THE CAVERN. You get nothing sad You have to pay 5 RP points to try again from start...

Life Hunters/ Undead/ Famine Horsemen: If the GM (of this event) rolls even, you may assist them by giving them a boost, sacrificing their misstep as they step on YOU instead. You will fall into the void but at least you helped save them... (You can only use this once obviously, and once you have, you are ejected from the thread, rather forcefully a you fall into infinity). You can +1 tile for doing this at least.
Death Hunters/ Reapers / Death Horsemen: If the GM (of this event) rolls even, you may help them detect that there is strange energy about! The GM can then reroll their last roll. However by doing this and shouting very loud, the ground beneath you crumbles and you fall to you doom....(You can only use this once obviously, and once you have, you are ejected from the thread, rather forcefully a you fall into infinity).
Moon Hunters/ Demons/ Conquest Horsemen: You can at any point assist the GM forward one tile. Doing so means you take the fall for them.... (You can only use this once obviously, and once you have, you are ejected from the thread, rather forcefully a you fall into infinity).
Sun Hunters/ Monsters/ War horsemen: When the GM is at 8 or higher tiles, you can give them a final boost by rolling a 4-sided dice. If odd, you have boosted the GM to the end! If even, it does nothing...(You can only use this once obviously, and once you have, you are ejected from the thread, rather forcefully a you fall into infinity).
Mist Hunters/ Ghosts: Choose any of the abilities above!

Harrison waited A WHILE until everyone was there.

When he talked, it was in a whisper."Now, I'm gonna cross over here. The ground's real shaky. Down below here's what is, from our experience, a bottomless pit. But if you lose your footing or s**t goes out from under you, don't panic. You got plenty of time. All you got to do is use your pendant, and that'll put you back at the start, where we met, uh," Harrison blanked.

"Terry," Rodney said again.

"Yeah. Terry. Now, since I'm the one that needs to get across, and since certain folks's debts won't be crossed off until I do, any help to get to the other side is much appreciated. If I don't make it, we start over. Fighting any weird s**t that's still hanging around the caverns, weird dark puzzle room, and back here. Got it?"

Good. They were almost done. He was glad for it. While failing meant another trip through water and the dark chamber, he much preferred their bed.

"Got it." Melvin said, far more willing to help now that they gave him and Lawr some time to deal with themselves. Melvin tried very hard not to look at Rep, feeling the judgement laser focused their way.

In the next room when they’d arrived Rep had clung to Harrison’s arm almost like a child, distressed beyond his capacity to explain and frankly on the brink of tears. He had been left feeling helpless and ignored as if he was a child again and he couldn’t really deal with it without the ability to default to violence. He’d found himself caught between the instinct to turn Tracey on Lawrence and Melvin both and the need to be professional on a mission and keep his promise to Harrison. In the end it meant he’d done nothing and this had ultimately triggered what amounted to a huge panic attack.

Holding onto the other man was the only outward sign he made of any of it, trying to keep his focus for the sake of the mission while in his head Tracey tried to calm him as best he could, telling him that he had done very well by not attacking anyone again.

Lawrence arrived a short time later with Melvin. He looked a little smugger than he had previously and his posture was noticeably more relaxed. Being who he was it had not even remotely occurred to him to feel guilty about what had just happened. He’d been annoyed by the interruptions from Rep but that was also mostly forgiven now he’d gotten what he wanted. It after all, wasn’t his fault that the man had unnatural night vision.

He listened to what Harrison had to say about the path and resolved that since he was feeling generous that he would help cross the walkway, even if it meant a risk. Falling wasn’t too much trouble in comparison to drowning in the grand scheme of things and he had his pendant on him.

Rep stayed next to Harrison the whole time, looking wild and blank, sparing only a moment to give Melvin an accusatory glare for ignoring his pleas earlier.

Harrison held on to Rep, lacing his fingers with his. Usually Rep and he had fun on missions, but right now Rep was like a shaky, scared dog who was having trouble protecting his territory.

"You're okay," he told Rep. "We'll do some recuperating once we get back."

Harrison cleared his throat, and straightened his shoulders, toeing around for a likely spot. He leaned forward, putting his weight on the first tile...that one seemed okay. Good deal.

Rep hated watching Harrison do anything dangerous, tensed and already missing the contact he'd been clinging to like a lifeline.

Lawrence just looked on with an eyebrow raised.

Harrison tried his weight on the next one. That one seemed fine too, to be honest.

"Not so bad," he said.
