"Ohhh what a gift." Riko said sarcastically rolling her eyes, but she still smiled at Elle waving at her, she had missed the girl over the night, well not really. She had heard enough of her last night, even over the bit of noise that she and Delorna were making. The little girl had given Mercy hell, hopefully, she had gotten it all out of the way before she was back in RIko's hands.

Or if she ever did get in Riko's hands.

Riko looked around her room for her clothes, she saw them discarded, around the room and just shrugged turning back to Mercy who she had caught peeking at her. "Please, you are going out to get ******** later tonight, don't act like nudity is suddenly so scandalous now." Riko joked stepping up to her and stealing Elle away from her. Deciding to take a little bit farther Riko pressed her backside into Mercy, rubbing her behind across Mercy's hips. "Though if your date doesn't go well, you can always come back here and pick back up where we left off yesterday." Riko flirted, before bursting out laughing walking away with Elle in her arms. The child was pawing at her chest obviously recognizing mammary glands "Hey you'll find no milk here." Riko joked, she was feeling a lot better especially compared to how she was feeling yesterday.

"I'll get dressed I promise, I'm just going to shower, and give Elle a bath before I do."

Well, Riko seemed to be in a much better mood--but that good mood was already causing Mercy a lot of grief. Mercy made a face and batted at Riko when the vampire started rubbing her naked self against her. "Damn you. Now I'm going to have to burn these clothes with my bedsheets," Mercy, referring to what she had learned about Delorna and Riko's sexual adventures, half-joked, wrinkling her nose. "Alright, then. If you've got things covered here, I'm going to head out." After giving Riko a wave, Mercy showered, got dressed, and left the house.

An hour later, she found herself stuck in a bad memory.

It was weird. Everything was familiar to her--the faded, peeling wallpaper, the ritualistic symbols, the smell of sweat and cigar smoke and hard liquer. Everything was homey, even. But she didn't belong here anymore. Here, in this secret speakeasy-turned basement headquarters under an old Irish pub.

Here, in the werewolf pack's lair.

Getting in would have been more difficult if the doorman hadn't been a newbie. The old pack members new her by face, but everyone knew her by name. She was exiled, the Beta who had murdered her Alpha in cold blood. Being here made Mercy sick. She probably made the others queasy, too; they didn't want her here. But she had leverage now. She had something the pack desired, something they couldn't ignore. Elle had been her ticket through the door, and she would be Mercy's way back into the pack.

She had been waiting in the main room, near the bar and watched by two mid-ranking protectors, for ten minutes when the door across from her opened. Shiva emerged, with a lackey in tow. No doubt she had been informed of Mercy's arrival already. She grinned as she approached, body moving in that swanky, cocky step Mercy could identify from a mile away.

"Well, well, what a pleasant surprise," she said, slowing to a halt a few inches away from Mercy. Mercy tensed slightly at their close proximity, but her expression remained collected, cool. Shiva gave Mercy a leisurely onceover. "But you're not supposed to be here, are you?" She reached out and brushed her fingers against Mercy's cheek. "In fact, technically, you owe us your life... but we were lenient because you're one of our own. One of our blood." Shiva shrugged. "Well, were," she corrected.

"I still am," Mercy said. "That hasn't changed." The words felt foreign to her; surely her mouth wasn't the one forming them, but there was no mistaking it was her voice that had said them. But this was part of the plan, she told herself. She needed to trust in the plan.

"Hasn't it?" Shiva responded quickly. "Even before your exile, you seemed pretty determined to separate yourself from us. You didn't agree with our values and methods, and you denounced us as your pack. Your family. It hurt."

"I was wrong. I thought I knew what I was doing, but something has been missing all these years, Shiva." Mercy shook her head and looked at the ground, feigning remorse. Some of it was real, or at least rooted in genuine emotions caused by the familiarity of her surroundings, the memories it pulled. She had been happy here once. "I... I've grown weak. I've strayed from the old ways, and I can feel myself slipping, both halves falling away from each other."

Shiva was surprised by this confession, eyebrows lifted and posture angled slightly backward. But she was also skeptical. "Such a heartfelt admission, and after only five minutes into our conversation!" she exclaimed.

"I don't see any point in lying about how I feel," Mercy stated firmly. "And... I've brought a peace offering. A proposition." She lifted her head again and locked eyes with Shiva. "I'm going to give you the baby."

Now Shiva was really shocked. "Oh?"

"But under one condition," Mercy continued. "I get to raise her. Let me show you that I'm committed to coming back by giving me this task. Modify my sentence and let me carry out the rest of my punishment by teaching the child everything I know, everything the pack stands for. Let me earn the pack's forgiveness."

                                                                --

Delorna was waiting for Riko when she got out of the shower. Well, not waiting, really. It almost seemed like a coincidence that Delorna was there, flipping through the parenting book Mercy had thrown at her the other day. "I hope I didn't make too much of a spectacle of myself," she said, grinning. "The look on the girl's face... But I suppose it's out there now, isn't it, darlin'?" Elle, meanwhile, was fast asleep, having dozed off after her bath to make up for lost rest.

"It was out there before this morning anyway." Riko said with a shrug as she moved past Delorna she kept her voice down not wanting to wake Elle up, it was known across the globe that an infant much like a sleeping dog was best left alone when it was sleeping less you want trouble. "I told her about us yesterday while we were out buying supplies." Delorna raised a brow at that clearly not expecting that from Riko.

"My Riko, I didn't expect you to be the type to brag about the sex you have, boy just when you think someone." Delorna tsked as if Riko had really disappointed her by blabbing but Riko just rolled her eyes at her, moving into the living room where the settled Elle down on the couch. "Wasn't like that, just teasing her is all. She had a date," Riko said as if that explained everything. That seemed to be enough for Delorna.

"A date? Why didn't I hear of this?"

Riko looked at Delorna and shrugged. "Maybe because it's none of your business." Delorna blew air at Riko and plopped down into the arm chair across from her. "So who she going out with? Delorna pried, and Riko shrugged again. "I unno, some dude, some girl. I didn't ask." She replies nonchalantly Delorna snorted, shaking her head. "Some friend you are, you are supposed to get info like that, for all we know she could be getting herself into trouble or something of the sort." Delorna said leaning her head on the arm rest. Riko shook her head at that leaning back into the seat, closing her eyes. She had been up all night, as had the succubus, and while sleep wasn't something she required, it did feel real good.

"I'm sure she can take care of herself."

...

"Baby's up."

Shiva had been skeptical. "What about the vampire?"

"She's grown attached to the baby. She'll give us one hell of a fight if she knows what's up," Mercy had replied, cool, calm. "It's better if we let her be, let her think she's co-parenting the child with me."

Shiva had said something about Riko corrupting Elle. Werewolves were the superior race, had been the theme of the rant, and Mercy had internally cringed. This was why she had left all those years ago. (Well, that and... other things, exile being one.) How many humans and vampires and succubi had Shiva and the pack needlessly killed since Mercy's exile? But she couldn't think like that. She was trying to pass as one of them in order to keep Elle safe. In order to keep Riko safe.

                                                                Wait... what?

Before Mercy had been able to analyze that thought, Shiva had said she would consider Mercy's proposal. "I'll take it up with the Alpha," she had said. "But before we can agree to anything, you're going to have to earn back our trust. Take a few tests, maybe."

Mercy hadn't liked the sound of that, but, her expression unwavering, she had nodded. "Of course."

                                                                "We'll be in touch."

And Mercy had been escorted out.

Now, after an afternoon shift at the steakhouse, she was at a different restaurant. Some little French boutique that Mercy hadn't picked. Her date, a young woman with long blonde curls and bright blue eyes, stared at her expectantly from the other side of the table. It was only when Mercy blinked that she realized she had been asked a question.

"O-Oh, sorry. What did you say?"

Claire frowned, concerned. They had been on two dates already, and Mercy thought she was a sweet girl. Maybe a little too bubbly sometimes, but everyone had flaws, right? "You're not listening," she observed.

Mercy blushed with embarrassment. "No, no, of course I am," she assured. "I'm just a little distracted. Sorry. I'll try harder, promise."

                                                                "Is something wrong?"

Mercy shook her head. "Just some work stuff. No big deal. But I'm here now."

Claire reached across the empty plates and laid her hand over Mercy's. Meeting Mercy's eyes and grinning seductively, she said smoothly, "How about we go back to my place? I can help you relax, work off the stress..."

Well, this was what she wanted, wasn't it? A night with a pretty girl that she already kind of didn't mind. But she had spent most of the night thinking about Shiva. About Elle and Riko. There wasn't room for anyone else. Was that an excuse to take Claire up on her offer? Or a reason to refuse it? Riko had taken care of Elle all day by this point. She probably needed some help, or, at least, Mercy should check in on her. They were a team now.

Sighing, Mercy pulled her hand away from Claire. "Look, as much as I really like that idea," she said softly, offering an apologetic smile, "it wouldn't be right. Call me old-fashioned, but if we think there's something here... I'd rather wait until I can be with you one-hundred-percent. And that's just not possible right now."

"Oh. I see." Claire seemed a little disappointed as she pulled her hand away, and Mercy was suddenly concerned the girl thought she had been rejected for other reasons. She brightened up quickly, though, and ordered dessert.

Mercy got home late-ish, and she fumbled to find her keys in the dark. Getting into the house, she walked quietly to the kitchen and began making herself tea. No, wait. Beer. Not strong enough, but she hadn't run to the liquer store in a while. Sitting at the kitchen table, she wondered who was asleep, and if she should go into Riko's room and check on Elle. Yeah, because barging into that room worked so well last time. Ugh.

Delorna had been surprisingly helpful today, combined with being expectantly annoying as well but not so much that Riko couldn't deal with her for a full day. They had a bit of fun today taking care of Elle even through all the crying and the screaming and the dirty diapers and the multiple baths and showers, it seemed that tag teaming these responsibilities was the way to go. It certainly made them less of a headache that is.

Currently Riko was sitting in a chair in Delorna's room watching the succubus and the wolf pup sleep, Elle was laying on Delorna stomach as they both dosed and Riko couldn't help but smile just a little at that. It was cute, she was just sad that Mercy had been gone all day to miss out on everything, but Riko supposed the girls hot date is what she would have preferred to be on anyway.

Or maybe not, with Riko's hearing she could her the keys rustling around outside and after a while the front door opened. Riko looked over at Elle and Delorna for a moment before standing and exiting going to see whats up, she padded barefoot down the steps having changed clothes because she had planned to relax for the night, she entered the kitchen wearing nothing but boy shorts and a tank top with the words Keep Weight written across the chest in bold letters. She entered the kitchen where she had heard someone messing around in the fridge, what she found was Mercy sitting at the kitchen table slowly nursing a beer. She didn't look very happy. "You look like s**t," Riko commented, pulling out a seat herself and sitting at the table. "Was this date not everything you dreamed of?"

Mercy looked up as Riko entered the room, then returned her eyes to the wall. She let out a gruff, humorless chuckle in response to the vampire's observation and question. "No, not really," she admitted with a sigh, leaning back in her chair. "But not because of anything she did." She left it at that, unwilling to admit aloud that her mind had been on Riko and Elle for most of the date. She looked at Riko and gave her a quick onceover. "You, on the other hand, look fine. Seems Elle didn't wear you out too much, huh?"

"Nope, she was an angel," Riko said shaking her head a bit at the description. "Well as much of an angel as a toddler can be, it helped that Delorna was here, things are a lot easier to handle with two people looking after her, lot less of a hassle." Riko admitted, tipping her chair back and rocking it on its back legs, she wasn't going to keep talking about this for long thought, she wanted to get onto the topic of Mercy's date and stick on it, she was a but curious about the details, and Mercy's had did a little prying with her yesterday soooo... fair is fair right?

"So if it isn't anything that she did, what's got you home earlier, sulking away in the kitchen tryna drink yourself into a better mood?" Riko asked, with a grin. "By the way you aren't gonna get much of a buzz from that." She said nodding towards the beer.

Mercy's left eyebrow rose. "Delorna helped you?" she asked, obviously skeptical. Hadn't Delorna threatened Elle the other day? Maybe Elle had charmed her into offering a hand, just like the infant had charmed Riko and Mercy into parenting her. Sneaky little thing.

Riko was quick to change the topic to Mercy's date. Mercy looked at her beer, knowing full well it wouldn't ease whatever the hell it was she was feeling right now. Exhaustion? Disappointment? Uncertainty? She sighed again and set the beer down, deciding she would have to check the liquer cabinet again, just in case she had missed something the first four times. "I'm just tired, is all. And she could tell," she replied. She could tell Riko sensed there was something more, but she wasn't going to get it out of Mercy that easily. Deadpanning, she continued, "Dunno if you knew this"--and she was pretty confident Riko did--"but I only got three hours of sleep." Mercy shrugged. "So we called it a night. And, anyway, I felt bad for leaving you with Elle all day."

"Yep, was very helpful actually, goes to show what a good night with someone can accomplish" Riko joked with a shrug of her shoulders.

"Just tired huh?" Riko couldn't help but smirk a little at that comment, she felt she knew exactly why Mercy was tired, and it began with an E and ended with an lle. Mercy confirmed this by talking about how many hours of sleep she had gotten last night, Riko had actually heard the girl up for most of the night, it had gotten kind of entertaining hearing Mercy talk to the infant, Delorna and her had taken a pause in their actions just to listen. Riko decided to keep that bit of info to herself. "Hah? You felt bad? That's sweeeeeetttt awwwww~" Riko cooed a habit she had picked up from Delorna as she reached out and ruffled Mercy's hair. "Here, I got something for you, give me a moment." Riko said, shooting up, she turned and walked back up to her room.

---

Riko returned with a bottle of everclear, gran alcohol. The only thing that could make the vampire feel anything. It was bad stuff, so pure that drinking it just forced all the moisture out of your mouth, and you know you are blasted before it even hits you. It was best to use a mixer. Riko placed it down on the table for Mercy. "Don't say I've never done anything for ya, wolf girl."

Mercy swore under her breath and flinched away from Riko when the vampire ruffled her hair. When Riko returned to the table with a bottle of Everclear, however, Mercy decided she could let her off the hook for tonight. "Jesus, Riko, you've been holding out on me," she said, practically salivating at the mouth as she stared the bottle down. She grabbed two shot glasses from the cabinet and set one in front of Riko before settling back into her seat. "And you'll be drinking with me, right?" It was more of a statement than a question. Mercy poured a shot-sized portion... plus some... into each glass, then downed her shot in one quick run. When she placed the glass onto the table, her face contorted with disgust. "Oh, ******** hell, that stuff is awful," she hissed, pinching her nose.

"I haven't really be holding out, I would just call it not sharing." The vampire specified. Watching Mercy go and grab a few shot glasses, she didn't see Mercy grab any of the many Mixers they could use from the fridge, not the pepsi, not the coke, not the orange juice and not the lemonade. Riko shook her head, Mercy didn't know what she was getting herself into poor girl. Riko smirked as the girl poured out two shots, asking if Riko would bed drinking with her, in response Riko picked up her glass silently and raised it in a silent mock toast. She watched Mercy down hers in one gulp and as expected she reacted very overtly.

"You're supposed to mix it, hate to break it to you honey, but this is 151 proof. So think you'll be getting proper drunk any minute now, but then again you are a wolf, so maybe you'll be able to hold it down." Riko said before downing her own glass. She felt the burn, and the bite to the alcohol, but she didn't react as Mercy had, she was used to it. "Well. Its been awhile, I forgot what it was like to drink grain alcohol. I really hope you don't have to go to work tomorrow, because you're not going to make it in if you do."

"I know what the proof is," Mercy said defensively. But she snuck a peak at the bottle, just to double check. As she refilled her glass, Mercy was sure she could already feel the effects of the alcohol. Werewolves typically had a higher tolerance than humans--even than other supernatural races--but this was some pretty strong stuff. Mercy imagined the typical human would already be on the floor by now.

She had thought the Everclear would act as a barrier between herself and the memories of her years in the pack, but it was so far proving inadequate. In fact, the flashbacks were becoming more vivid, and when Mercy looked down, for a split second she saw blood on her hands. Mercy downed her second shot. "Y'know, it just occurred to me," she said, looking at Riko. "From now on, I'm going to have to tell people I've got a kid. Do you think that'll decrease my chances of getting laid?" She pondered this deeply for a moment, then grinned and shook her head. "Speaking of, I saw what you did to Delorna. Good God, Riko."

"Alright, was just making sure, because it didn't look like you knew what it was when you decided to down it like it was water." Riko commented, she leaned back in her chair not reaching to pour herself another shot, she instead opted to watch Mercy as the wolf took a second shot, the watched the storm of emotion that played over her face, slightly worried for her she didn't look like she was having the greatest of time. However when she took that second shot, the storm vanished, and she was grinning at Riko again, asking her silly questions that actually made Riko laugh, causing her to forget just for a moment.

"Well you live with two other women, just pretends she's Delorna's or tell them she's mine. I don't know Mercy, who worries about this kind of thing?" Riko asked, a bit stunned, shaking her head. "I guess you really were having a bit of a hard time getting some before if this is where your mind goes too." Riko commented jokingly.

"Speaking of, I saw what you did to Delorna. Good God, Riko."

Riko looked away for a bit remembering the plethora of marks she had left all over Delorna night, she wondered briefly if they had all healed."It's not usually like that, I don't....leave marks like that all the time." Riko defended.

Mercy shot Riko a glare and stuck her tongue out playfully. "No, actually, I got plenty before this. It's just, I've gotten used to a certain standard of living, y'know?" she said, grinning. "Can't have Elle cramping my style." She brushed off her shoulders in an exaggerated, dramatic way, like she was in a nineties music video.

Yep, that Everclear was really kicking in now. Mercy noticed the difference when she leaned backward again and her body moved faster than her conscious did. It was like her muscles and bones knew what she was going to command of them even before she commanded it. Overall, though, Mercy still had a good handle on herself. Her mind was a little lazy, sure, but she knew what she was doing, what she was saying. She slung her arm over the back of her chair and watched Riko with a lopsided smirk.

"You strike me as being a more dominant type in the bedroom. Demanding," she said, squinting, as if doing so would somehow give her a glimpse into Riko's soul. "But then again, maybe all I know is a front, and you'd really rather be on the bottom, so to speak. Am I right?"

"I'm sure." Riko said, toying with her shot glass a bit, running her finger around the lip in a circle, as if expecting sound to begin playing from the glass due to her movements, of course this wasn't the type of glass and she was no musician. "Well, a baby will ruin a bit f the freedoms we've come accustomed to, but I think Elle might just be worth it, I can't tell the future by any means, but I think she's going to grow up to amaze us both." Riko said with a nod.

She looked over at Mercy and wondered if the girl was listening, and even if she were listening Riko wondered how well the girl comprehended her. She was very clearly tipsy if not full on drunk, the grin she had on her face was silly and Riko could help but grin back just a little. She wondered if Mercy knew how silly she looked in this moment. Riko sighed shaking her head pushing her glass away, she didn't need to be drunk now, though she was sure that getting wasted right now along side Mercy would only lead to more fun. She had a feeling that she was going to need to be sober throughout the night. Probably to watch over the girl, probably to pry information from her, or probably because Mercy was going to hate herself in the morning and Riko would need to watch over Elle.

Thought just because she was staying sober it seemed that it did not mean that she would be missing out on some fun. Mercy's question was certainly a fun one. "If I am to be honest with you Mercy, I don't think you would want to know the answer, but since you will probably be to drunk to remember this in the morning I'll tell you." Riko said with a shrug, rolling her shot glass on its side now, back and forth. "Due to my, history, I've learn to appreciate certain things in bed. Don and Sub are strong words to use, but I suppose they apply. But if I am to be specific here. I can't get off, without there being a little pain. On both ends. There is a certain power in the give and the take away. Pain isn't all bad, as long as there is pleasure along with it."
