Otto had to think about that for a while. It had felt like forever. Sometimes he wondered if the life before Deus was even real. He walked inside the building, imadvertantly slowing his pace while thinking.

"I got recruited when I was 16, and woke up and got Tenya a week or so after I turned 17. So.. over three years awake, I guess. Four if you include the initial pod living time." He was pretty sure that alone had been nearly eight months.

He counted mentally to figure out how old this made Otto.

"Sixteen is awfully young," said Chance, after a moment's consideration, pulling open the door to the stairwell. "They recruit people here that young? It seems a little intense."

Otto shrugged. "I dunno how their minds work. Maybe they got reasons." He hoped those reasons were good, but he often worried there were secrets kept for sinister reasons. And age wasn't even what Otto worried about.

He led the man up the stairwell, to the floor where full hunters made homes for themselves. At room 220, he unlocked and opened the door.

"C'mon in."

"From what I've seen, the Deus minds are a strange, strange thing," said Chance dryly.

He felt a certain sense of curiosity being up on the hunter floor, which he'd only visited once before, when he'd gotten the telescope from Finn. Chance peered into Otto's room as he took a step inside, his eyes moving across the decorations and the sheer space of it.

"Holy s**t," he said, and laughed. "This is ******** amazing."

"Thanks." He wasn't sure what else to say. He was used to his apartment, of course. Proud if it too.

"Make yerself at home. I'll get some drinks. Whaddya want?" He moved toward the kitchen.

Chance meandered towards the sofa, which was nearest, and sat himself down, fidgeting off his shoes before he pulled one foot up beneath him (he didn't want to get sand all over anything).

"Soda sounds good," he said, leaning back to get comfortable, but he was still looking around with interest at everything. "And a bit of that Southern Comfort for later, though, I don't need some right away."

"Got it." Drinks were set on the coffee table (which probably had never seen coffee). "I'll start with a classic." Otto got the TV and DVD player ready, putting on a movie called Twister.

He sat next to Chance, with enough room between them for a third person, and curled up with a can of cola for himself. Ice cold fizzy drinks had a way of soothing the soul after a long day.

And tornado movies.

Chance reached for his own drink, got himself settled in for a good time, and found that it was very relaxing being here. The space between them was noted with a certain sense of respect as Chance attempted not to invade Otto's personal bubble.

(He kind of wanted to inch closer, just for sheer warmth's sake, but personal bubbles were to be respected.)

"Is this one of those movies where people do the exact thing that they shouldn't do when there are crazy things happening?" Chance asked with interest, as the opening credits began to roll.

"Uuuuh.. depends. The main characters are professional storm chasers. So it's like.. their job to be in the wrong place at the right time." He murmured, feeling a little alone in his corner. But this was for the best. Yes, for the best. He was fine on his own. Or at least, he should re-learn to enjoy being on his own.

"That sounds like a ******** crazy job," said Chance with a laugh. He lifted his soda and took a drink, smiling over at Otto. "I mean, I'm sure there are others that get off on the adrenaline rush, but that's a little too crazy for my tastes."

Sometime during the first ten minutes of the movie, Chance shifted a little so that he was sitting sideways on the couch, legs drawn up, his hands in his lap and his back against the armrest.

"This is already intense," he said, his eyes fixed on the screen, utterly fascinated.

"I think it'd be fun." Otto murmured back, his eyes on the screen and the lip of his pop can always close to his mouth. He tapped the cold condensation covered can against his bottom lip, wondering to himself what a cool life he'd have if he chased weather for a living. "No more dangerous than bein' a hunter, right?"

The movie was as good as he remembered, making his heart feel light with entertainment. He no longer cared about the embarrassments of the day. They never happened.

"It's why I love disaster films. They're usually good right away."

Chance had drunk about half of his soda before he'd set it back onto the table, his attention riveted. Considering he had about as much experience with movies as he did with people, it was something of a new thing for him, and he found it very thrilling.

"Oh ******** oh ******** oh ******** - " He swung his legs over the side of the couch, unable to keep still, Chance practically bouncing in his seat. "They're gonna hit one of those waterspouts if they keep driving - holy s**t they're gonna get destroyed - "

Clearly he was becoming rapidly invested in the future of the storm chasers, Chance's eyes wide with interest.

Otto was covering his mouth with his hand, trying so hard not to laugh at Chance and his excitement. It was like he'd never seen a movie before. And he supposed that was true. It didn't help that he was also stifling laughter from the cow scene. The cow scene was probably his favourite.

"Holy s**t that was a whole ******** cow that just flew past their window - and another one holy s**t - "

Chance turned bright eyes towards Otto, his face lit up.

"It's like a cownado."

"Cownado?!" He laughed aloud, his head rolled back onto the back of the couch. "Oh my ******** God." He was in stitches. "That'd be hilarious! I wanna see it." ******** sharks. Cows were the new threat of 2015.

"1997 predicted Sharknado, but got the animal wrong!"
