After rooting through the dark rocks he located a red shard. Picking it out and putting it away he went to the Pokecenter in order to wash the dirt and grime from his hands. Once he had dried off he pulled out his Pokenav and checked the news for the next Sinnoh city. Snowpoint City was next so he took out his heavy jacket before going outside and climbing onto Noivern's back and off they went.

Once the sun’s light fell on them, Zakhav’s group began to stir. He shifted in his sleeping bag, opening one eye to a slit, staring hatefully at the rays of sunlight. Deysatnik was still asleep on his back, but Sotnik woke easily, sitting up and shaking his head, staring blearily at the long since cold embers of the fire place. He yawned.
They hadn’t quite reached Eterna City the previous evening, but they’d gotten close enough after that dinner/late lunch at the pokecenter. Having been walking all day, once the shelter of the trees was spotted, they were essentially won over. The small body of water nearby was an extra bonus.
Zakhav shifted, glancing down at Daeva, securely held in his arms, and turned, sliding out of his bag a bit to sit up and look over at the oranges and reds beyond the trees. He stifled a yawn of his own, then, holding the pokemon close, climbed to his feet, walking along the tarp over his sleeping back to the lump that was his belongings. He withdrew the bag, and the box he’d previously used to hold Daeva as an egg, returning to his sleeping bag to drag out the still-warm blankets he’d put in there the night before, and used them to create a nest for Daeva, still snug and warm. Moving over to the fire place, he restarted it, but rather than getting straight to breakfast, pulled out a long, thin incense, and lit it.
An odd, almost earthy odor wafted out of it, and he stuck it in a bowl, placing it near the fire place, equidistant from the water and treeline, and set about getting some food to start cooking. ”Pokemon vill be showing up soon,” he spoke up, evidently addressing Sotnik as Deysatnik was only just beginning to stir at the crackling of the fire and the sound of his voice. ”I fully expect you to take zem out as sey come.” He pulled out a frying pan. ”You vill get to eat een betveen. Today ees a battle day. Ve vill be training very hard, but after, you vill be able to take it easi… er, at least. Ze pokemon should not be hard to defeat.” He glanced over as an Omanyte wriggled out of the trees near the water, two more poking their heads out behind it. Turning his expectant gaze to the snivy, he gave an indicative jerk of his head towards the pokemon, and returned to his cooking.

While ‘Nik quickly leaped over the first fainted Omanyte to immediately attack the startled second one, Zakhav reached into his bag. He turned, and tossed a pokeball. It was true, he was doing this primarily for the training—but he would be lying if he said he didn’t plan to take wonderful advantage of the opportunity. For one, this incense would draw out every rare living or revived fossil pokemon in the area. He could sell, trade, or bribe people for those beautifully. Maybe even get a few favors. He smirked at the idea, absently tossing the next empty pokeball, and to catch the second one, too. One more, just to be safe. Probably. He’d see what else showed up. He had Lidia bring all those extra pokeballs specifically for this, but he didn’t want to risk wasting them all on just a few omanyte, after all.

The third one had time to recover, and had turned to flee, letting out a distressed cry. Sotnik flinched—and Zakhav didn’t miss it—but darted after it, quickly using another Vine Whip and throwing it out of the forest, marching back out and staring down at it. He looked back over at his trainer as the third pokeball was tossed, then gathered them up, bringing them back over. His up turned nose wiggled at the smell beginning to waft from the food, and his stomach growled hungrily. ”Here,” Zakhav offered, handing the snivy a poke treat, ”Eat qvekly before ze next von shows up.” Sotnik blinked, but quickly caught on, snatching it up, and shoving it into his mouth, chewing as he began scanning the area for signs of any more pokemon.

The indication of the next pokemon was a splashing sound. Odd that a lot of the first ones were coming from the water, it seemed… Either way, Sotnik quickly ran over, leaping—without thinking—to get over the pokemon, turning in the air to hit from behind and knock it, with a vine whip, onto land, K.O.ed. Unfortunately he didn’t think of a landing plan, or the fact that the leap got him well over the water.
Zakhav threw a pokeball to catch the Relicanth, standing and moving, ready to drag his pokemon out of the water if he needed. The snivy flopped onto the side of the lake, however, looking grumpy, but dragging himself out, shaking and scowling at the water still clinging to him. ”Hm… Teach you to better seenk srough your plans, yes?” he remarked, smirking over at the pokemon, and then returning to his cooking.

Sotnik walked back towards camp, shaking his arms and legs out, kicking the pokeball back towards Zakhav as he went, trying to dry out while looking back and forth, scanning for signs of more pokemon. Both he and Zakhav instinctively ducked down and away as an archaic screech blasted the area, and both looked up at a grinning Aerodactyl, it’s eyes wide and manic, looking hungrily down at Sotnik. The snivy took a step back, staring back, half fearful, half purely unsure what the thing was. ”Deys!” Zakhav was on his feet in a second, staring challengingly up at the pokemon, who turned his gaze onto him, shifting, looking ready to attack.
”Blizzard!” Sotnik knew the name and he’d still somehow missed Deysatnik getting to his feet, before suddenly there was a blast of cold air, frosting the tree and knocking the large rock-flying pokemon down. It crashed through branches, landing hard, giving another archaic scream as it tried to push itself up—and then collapsed, unconscious.

Zakhav stared down at the pokeball holding the previously wild fossil pokemon with a look of superiority and disdain, only to let a growing smirkish grin cross his face. ”Zat vill be fun to train,” he remarked with a scoffing laugh, turning back to cooking, and kneeling down on one leg, the other bent up to rest his arm on as he stirred the eggs and turned over the sausage. Deysatnik walked over, picking up the pokeball with one taloned foot, then bending down, curving his fin and placing it so it wouldn’t roll off, carrying it to add to the growing collection of pokeballs. ”Deys, you mind sending zem to ze PC? I von’t be useeng any of zem soon,” Zak requested absently, glancing over as a Tirtouga next appeared. “’Nik, you have zat, yis?” he, well… not so much asked, as instructed. Sotnik turned, darting over, and once more knocking the water-rock pokemon out.

As Sotnik carried the pokeball over, another unfamiliar pokemon arrived, this one also not water-rock dual. He glanced at Deys, who nodded reassuringly, having sent most of the pokeballs to the PC already. He waddled forward, lifting his head, summoning another blizzard, and swiftly taking out the dinosaur-like pokemon. Sotnik had to admit… the attack sent slight shivers down his back, and not because of the temperature. It was powerful… He actually wondered if he’d ever be able to endure such an attack. Perhaps that was the point of the training… perhaps that would be a true test of when he could step up to truly fulfill his name. He didn’t really like the idea of facing such a test, though…

"Oi Sotnik, come here,” Zakhav instructed, and the snivy eagerly approached, hoping for food. Unfortunately, his trainer held up two scale-like objects instead, shaped like hearts. ”Take zese to learn moves. Von steel, von for vater. Eet es time to extend your moveset. Bos are strong against rock. Use zem appropriately, learn your advantagees,” he advised. Sotnik nodded, taking them, then moving to Deys. It took some figuring out, but with the other pokemon’s assistance, he was able to learn how to use the heart scales to learn two moves, eyes wide as he found his capabilities so greatly extended. Would he… would he even need Deys’ help now…?
He looked up as a pokemon appeared, pausing, then ran forward, trying one of his new moves, the water one. He blinked though, as the pokemon shook itself a bit, but immediately retaliated, letting out a gasp as the pokemon’s petal-like appendages reached out to wrap tightly around his body. He was able to hit it with the steel move, and this time, it was knocked soundly out. Right… ‘advantages’… Perhaps he would have to learn to assess his opponent better…

Sotnik looked over as another water-rock pokemon skittered out, this time with glowing red eyes. Okay, advantages—this one was easy. He knew that his grass type would take it out. And indeed, it did, very quickly in fact. Zakhav glanced over from where he was cooking, tossing a pokeball over his shoulder to catch it, then nodding for Deys to go and get it, gesturing for the snivy to come over. “Here,” he offered, shoving a plate of food at the pokemon, ”Eat up qvek.” ‘Nik blinked, but quickly started shoveling food in his mouth. He was starving! Really, really starving! And there were bound to be more pokemon yet to come!

For some reason all these water pokemon seemed to be coming in hoards. Another of the blue-grey pokemon appeared, and, stuffing the last of his food into his mouth, ‘Nik hurried over, taking it out easily with another Vine Whip. He hadn’t even needed to use his new grass move yet! He blinked, though, as a strange feeling started coursing through him, swallowing the last mouthful of food he’d managed to shovel in. It was… so odd. Like an odd energy was growing inside of him. He looked down, eyes widening as he found that he was glowing.
A little ways away, after tossing the pokeball to catch the second Tirtouga, Zakhav raised an eyebrow. Deys was nudging the two pokeballs into a pile, but also stopped, both watching as their teammate finally began to evolve.

As the light began to fade and reveal Sotnik’s new form, a smirk crossed over Zakhav’s face. Deys, meanwhile, went back to his business of gathering and sending the pokeballs to the PC. ”Congratulations, Sotnik,” Zakhav drawled with as much sincerity as he could muster, climbing to his feet and walking over to pat the pokemon on the head. ”You’ve evolved. Zees ees good, but you vill have to keep traineeng for now. Ven ze incense veres off, you can take a break,” he promised. Sotnik bowed his head a little in acknowledgement, watching Zak walk back over to camp, grinning as Daeva popped out of her box, now awake, grinning and her tongue lolling out, happily snatching a bite of sausage from her trainer’s fingers. He stared at the pair a moment, but turned, taking out the third tirtouga he had already heard emerging from the waters.

Another skittering one, a Kabuto, emerged from the water next, letting out a ‘SCREEEEE’ as it tried to lunge itself at ‘Nik from the air. The newly evolved Servine took a step back, but immediately stepped forward again, lashing out a vine whip, and knocking it out. Zakhav glanced back, tossing over another pokeball, and then pushing a few empty ones towards Sotnik. ”I’m going to eat now,” he explained, ”So just catch zem as zey come. No more zan von more of zose, however,” he added, leaning his head back and tossing a cut up piece of sausage into his mouth, Daeva now curled up on his lap, hungrily hoping for him to drop some to her. Sotnik sighed, but gathered up the pokeballs, preparing for the next battle with Deys working beside him.

Surprisingly enough, another of the shelled fossil pokemons was indeed what showed up. Sotnik was able to take it out. He picked up one of the empty pokeballs and tossed it, without very good aim, at the pokemon. It felt unnatural to catch another pokemon, and his expression must have showed it. He glanced back over at his trainer, where Daeva was wriggling on her back in his lap, apparently trying to beg for food. Only her second day in existence, and she was already trying to manipulate him… ‘Nik lifted his head as he felt Deys staring at him, glancing defensively over. The Empoleon’s expression was, of course, hard to read… but there was a distinct look of disapproval in his eyes. At ‘Nik’s obvious…. Jealousy? If it could be called that, most likely. It was just the slightest bit ridiculous how quickly their trainer had latched onto the pokemon, just because he’d catched her out of an egg.

Sotnik turned from Deys as another pokemon emerged from the water, but leaped back at the sight of it. It… it was so weird! He stared, but quickly whipped another vine forward, relaxing a bit when it knocked it out easily. He reached over and picked up another of the pokeballs, going through the motions to catch the pokemon, and then give it to Deys, to be sent to the PC. He assumed that, considering all the pokeballs that had been pushed over, Zakhav just wanted him to catch whatever showed up. Probably not more than three of any kind, given his previous ruling, but since he hadn’t given any other instructions, the servine figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
