Rae Sterling

[Never been in a space battle before... THIS IS FUN!]

I was tinkering with my left glove when the space-station came into sight. Aaaannnddd... so were a bunch of Fang Purists trying to attack the space-station.

Rae? Came a quiet, pleasant voice in my ear.

I looked up at them from my seat in the cockpit, looking at all of them. Fighter Jets, small, airplane like spacecraft were flashing along the hull, shooting uselessly at the thick armored walls of the spaceship. Mechs, more bipedal looking contraptions, were trying to tear off pieces of the station with big, clumsy, mechanical hands.

I hissed at the sight. At least there wasn't many.

Well, let's see how my combat skills compare to my normal piloting, shall we?

Yes, Rae. I will give you any aid you require.

I made sure a circuit was finished on my glove (last time the thing started to spark and smoke when I put it down incomplete) and I grabbed the controls.

~~~
A mech came up to the windows of a bay, trying to pry it's doors open. He stopped and looked up when a dark shape, a fighter jet, shot past-- and with a neat shot of it's missiles took out the mech's head. The impact knocked the mech loose, and he started floating aimlessly away from the station.
I smiled as I leaned back, shifting my position in the cockpit to bank in a tight U turn.
I leaned forward again, sliding the joysticks forward that controlled my propulsion. I shifted them up and down and side to side with ease, causing my little jet to dart nimbly through the attackers.With a near constant stream of lazer fire going, and with my unexpected attack and maneuverability, it wasn't long before at least half was at least disabled... if not completely taken out.
I turned hard in my seat when I felt something just nearly come across my bow-- ah, so one of these selfish idiots had any skill, hmm? Let's see how much!
Thus started a dance-- two jets, mine, a dark crimson, the other, black, darting and weaving through the battle. Exchanging fire here, dodging a missile there... I smiled. It was behind me.... Probably with a weapon lock... With a sharp jerk I pulled the controls upward, pulling into an effortless loop-de-loop. I leveled out behind it before it could figure out where I want and... one missile down the tail-pipe. I watched it explode as I banked away, returning my attention to the battle at hand...
Kaia
The alarm system is going off…another purist attack?!
Kaia had put away all the cleaning supplies and wheeled the trolley with the empty cake platter and dirty dishes into the kitchens. She asked the other staff where she might find the chef who had baked it and soon located him cleaning the cafeteria.
"Excuse me" she bowed as much as her body would allow her to, hands clasped together in a gentle pose. "I was told that your name is Orion. I wished to convey our thanks to you for the wonderful cake that was served this afternoon. I think everyone loved it" she spoke honestly, smiling politely towards the human boy.
"And I wanted to personally thank you as well. You see, it was just - ahhhh!" Startled, Kaia stopped mid-sentence as the ship's alarm system went off. It wasn't exactly a surprising occurrence, just unexpected.
Michiyo Nalamence
Zanatos Mathers
it couldn't have happened at a worst time
The sudden sound of the alarm slightly startled him, it wasn't something brand new to life up here, attacks do happen. But they've had quite a brake since the last one, Zanatos almost got used to the idea of not fighting. After mouthing a short obscenity, he gave Sarah a quick kiss on the cheek before running to his locker. "I'll be back for that tune up before you know it."
Zanatos ran as fast as his legs could take him, and with the little burst of speed from his cybernetic legs, it didn't take him long to arrive at his locker to quickly change. After a quick change he ran to his jet.
This beauty of a jet was his baby, she had red, yellow and orange throughout the entire ship, and the wings of the ship were designed to look like the wings of bird. The name he gave to this beauty was the phoenix, and she had never let him down in a fight. The inside might have been a slight upgrade from the basic model, but when he was inside that ship, it felt like they were one and the same, like her wings were his wings and his mind and reflexes were hers.
Before Zanatos climbed into the jet he looked around to see if the other pilots made it to there ships yet, only one other pilot had made it so far. "I'll go ahead to try and slow down their assault, you should wait for the other pilots before launching." Before giving the other pilot a chance to respond, he climbed into his ship and launched into the vast darkness that was outer space, only to see dozens of ships and mechs flying around. "Alright baby, lets show these punks what it means to interrupt me."
(Yay space battle! Something Valkia can sink her teeth (and axe) into it. twisted BTW MF you might wanna quote SD in your post so he knows to float back over here.)
Valkia Steelstone
I'd tell you to say that to my face but you'd need a ladder...
===============================================
As the Ark's alarm system kicked on, Valkia's face lit up with a smile. A smile made all that much more creepy by the flashing red lights. Perfect timing, she thought, having wanted to vent her frustrations in a destructive fashion for a while now. Her frustrations had nothing to do with running the Ark or handling its crew but rather the lack of progress she'd made solving her brother's murder.
"BATTLE STATIONS!" She roared, drawing her ancestral battle-axe from its place on her back. In the case of Valkia yelling an intercom system was redundant, her powerful lungs easily carrying her message throughout a good portion of the ship. "COME PEOPLE! MOVE YOUR FEET!"
Confident her orders would be followed, Valkia stomped towards the engineering bay's air-lock where, after following all the safety protocols, she let herself out into depths of space.
"COME GET SOME!" She roared, uncaring that none of the enemy ships or mechs could hear her.
((OOC: Right, I'm not sure what I was going to do with this 'cause I've just come back and still trying to catch up, but I'll try to get this moving again. I know I suck at this! Ha ha...just bear with me? >w< I think we need some of the purists getting into the Arc as well so I'll try to write that happening soon too))
The ships and mecha continued their attack on the Arc - though now their focus had shifted almost entirely to blasting from long range, or physically battering the heck out of whatever defensive forces flew up to meet the challenge.
Rockets, lasers, cannons, projectiles known as pop rocks (small clusters of projectiles that would attach to or hit an enemy target and explode, cause an electrical shock or release acid that could damage outer shells) rained down on the Arc's defenders.
On top of the usual rain of destruction, there was the melee combat of giant metal limbs pounding a dent into other units. One mech could be seen thrusting a giant lance right through the centre of a smaller vessel, screwing up the systems. Another had headed straight for Valkia - about the same size as her and gleaming with maniacal intent. It's right arm shifted through an auto transformation sequence, forming an enormous crushing hammer to match the might of her ancient battleaxe. A honeycomb shimmer revealed a strong plasma shield surrounding the mech, rendering it immune to most lasers and missiles. Melee would have to be the response until the shield was disabled.
Another purist ship barreled straight into a mech while a different one had it distracted, firing at it's head compartment. The mech threw up its cybershield to defend, attempting to fire on its attacker just as the first rammed into the back of the mecha, crushing some of the armour and causing it to misfire.
The Arc's defenders were equally adept at using what they had on hand. Thanks to the swift efforts of the pilots and captain, about half of the purist attackers remained, zipping about like annoying multicoloured insects, strips of light and explosions making it hard to manoeuvre, trying to create a gap to force their way in.
Then the battle changed again. The handful that remained started to retreat...flying away, re-employing their cloaking devices, going from offensive to defensive. It looked like the Arc had chased them off.
Maybe the Arc would guess what they were up to...retreating to trick the others into thinking the attack was over when really, there was a back-up group of fresh purist ships and mechas waiting just out of sight that would be rejoining those reporting back.
They had more than one trick up their sleeves...
Kaia
I-I'd better go report back to the head maid. She'll tell me what to do now...
With the alarms going off all over the ship closely followed up by the orders of the captain, Kaia decided it was time to skedaddle. She tried to stay calm, taking a deep breath to quell the small rush of adrenaline and the anxious feeling clutching her throat. She could feel the child; renewed kicks and flutters moving in her belly - almost like it was excited. Her eyes darted towards the ceiling and walls, only able to guess what was happening out there. "S-sorry..I hope I did not startle you. I should really be used to these attacks" she chuckled, returning her attention to the young chef she'd been getting acquainted with, one hand rubbing small circles on her swollen abdomen.
Unfortunately, she would have to cut that short and report back to her supervisor. The head maid would direct her where she was needed, whether it be cleaning up somewhere, or perhaps serving drinks or running errands to get supplies for the engineers, pilots and mechanics. Or even returning to her quarters to be out of the way.
She wasn't one of those in a position to fight in her condition, so her duties would be to aid those who were. Kaia nodded towards Orion, attempting to excuse herself so she could go "Please excuse me, sir. I must now report back to my superior. I do hope we may meet again"
She started to walk out of the cafeteria, into a corridor...there seemed to be some sort of commotion going on out there.
Zanatos Mathers
That was suspiciously convenient.
This was the chaos of war that was all too common now a days, exploding ships, enemy fire mixed with friendly fire, and the ever present chance of death that could come to claim his life at any given moment. He had been flying for several minutes, even though it felt like an eternity, and he had completely lost track of how many ships he had shot down. 'No! I'm not dying today! He yelled in his cockpit before pressing to attack to drive the purists away from the arc.
All of a sudden they ended their assault and retreated, "another battle won for the arc" he thought to himself. He flew a little closer to the arc, trying to stay away from the remaining forces so he could rest in his ship before docking. But he was completely unaware of what the enemy had in store for them.
Kleo
Kleo cruised by smoothly on her tiny pod, following the little red bleep that marked her destination. Today, she embarked on another mission for another superior. She was to hunt down some sort of an axe- she was told that she would know it immediately when she saw it.
She flew on by, leaving streaks of blue light behind her as she passed stars and planets alike. Suddenly she pierced through a battlefield, just clearing. The enemies were fleeing and the home ship was trying to dock... this was most interesting indeed.
The little red dot started blinking, meaning she had found her target. Kleo cruised on by the Arc, recognizing immediately her location. This was no place to be searching on ill wishes... she needed to take advantage of this opportunity.
She followed the ship into the port, dropping out of her pod and landing on the ship. She then proceeded to condense the ship into a capsule- technology courtesy of the Psioneko. She noticed the field suddenly clustering up again, and she took it upon herself to change into the form of a young girl and hide on the back end of the ship. Something was happening, that was for sure...
Rae Sterling
[Suspicious...]
I had gotten into another dogfight with yet another ship when I watched them all start to retreat. I looked around carefully at the stars around me, looking at the scattered and battered ships and the mecha floating around the mostly unscathed space station.
Computer. Bring up the sensors.
Yes Rae. Said the AI gently, before several panels of buttons and screens formed around me. I started to type and study the screens, which showed the stars infront of me.
If I may ask, Rae, what are you doing?
I continued to type and study the screens as I hesitated to answer that. While my ship was a highly loyal AI, it was still technically made by the Earth Fang Purists... Didn't know how the ship would react if it found too much out about the station. Since gaining my beautiful ship, I had wiped her clean of their signatures, such as re-wiring her hailing frequencies even going so far as re-painting her, but I didn't know what nasties still lurked under her programming. I couldn't do that particular bit with her still powered up and active, and depending on how bad it is I might have to get an entirely new AI chip or re-program it all from scratch.
... I'm checking to see if they're leaving.
((OOC: It was never dead. I'm still posting and I'm encouraging others to as well. It might help if you read back through the last few pages to catch up on what's happened.
Here's a quick summary: The Ark is under attack from a small fanatical group of Earth Fang Purists. Some of them are using ships and mechs to attack on the outside while another group have split away from the main one and found their way inside (don't ask me how yet, I'm making it up as I go).
Kaia found Orion in the cafeteria and was thanking him for the cake he baked when the attack happened and the alarm systems went off. She's now going to report back to her supervisor (head maid). Valkia and some others are out defending the Ark from its attackers with their own ships or mecha))
Kaia
Who are those humans? I have no data pertaining to them
Kaia soon discovered the source of the commotion inside the ship. A group of humans, about three or four, were standing just at the end of the corridor. They appeared to be wearing fighting suits or armour of some kind, some of it torn or damaged from the battle. Several of them held weapons. How they managed to get in, she didn't know. A common tactic was to hijack one of the Ark's own ships or mechs and get into the engineering sector. She hoped no one had been injured if that was so.
Heart thumping, Kaia hid herself behind a vending machine and tried to watch what they were up to. Two of them had captured another maidservant and currently had her pinned against the wall. They were doing something to her...Kaia couldn't see what and their voices were too low to hear properly. She recognised the other servant. 'Patricia..she's in danger. What are they doing to her? Uh oh, they're coming this way' Suddenly fearful as a couple of them started to come down the hallway, she turned and started to hurry ahead, clutching her belly as she jogged as quietly as possible. She had to get to the head maid and let her know! She had no idea how many of them had sneaked on board the Ark. There could be more than three or four.
EDIT: Oh, Kurai, please come back soon...))
There was an unsettling silence and stillness that followed the attack on the Ark. It seemed normal that the small group of purists that attacked were dealt with so efficiently.
Attacks like that were common, some of them to be viewed as nothing more than harassment. But the way this group had fled together at the exact same moment was strange. It wasn’t uncommon for attackers to turn tail and run but their timing and the way they fell into formation as they left had been so smoothly and swiftly executed, it looked like it had been planned. Counting also the fact they had not headed back towards the Earth but another direction, still out in space. That might have given some a clue.
Fighting jets, ships and mecha had turned to head back inside after a while, when all had fallen peaceful. The Ark graciously opened its portals to accept them back in, leaving just a handful of sentries who would keep watch beyond its protective shell.
However, this is what they had been waiting for. The enemy silently advanced upon their unsuspecting targets, using their cloaking devices to remain hidden, smother signals and the sounds of engines. They waited and watched, creeping as close as they dared before launching their second surprise attack.
The blasts came, thick and fast.
A ship was fired on as it entered the Ark's docking portal and was spun around and slammed onto its side, jamming in the doors as the defenders tried to seal off the entrance.
Missiles and laser fire streaked forth in rainbows of destruction, some of them searing through the jammed portal and causing interior damage or knocking people flying in the hangar bay, (those maintaining the ships and mecha, engineers, medics and fighters who had returned or were waiting to go out.) It was obvious the attackers were trying to get inside and had found a way to bypass the shield.
The remaining defenders scrambled to fight back, only realising they were being attacked by a fresh wave of back up too late.
Enemy units were revealed either because they had to drop their invisibility to engage their attack modes, or the ones that didn't were hit, dissipating the illusion.
A fighter ship flew straight towards the hangar bay, aiming for the open portal, but was rammed side on by two fighter jets from the Ark's defenders, whose combined efforts shoved it back into space and into one of its allies
Desperation seemed to be lending the handful of defenders the edge for now. Yet whatever numbers they'd managed to take out before had been replaced by the back up units. And while hell rallied upon the outside, hell was breaking loose inside the Ark as well, with the few intruders sneaking around the corridors.
