Sakina grunted and shook her head. Stupid male... She blinked at Kallan and stomped a hoof. "But I did tell ya! Musta been too sickly ta remember." She smirked and shrugged helplessly. "Well, if'n ya can't remember such a thing, no point me repeatin' it a dozen times." She pulled herself strighter. Good! Something to hold over him for a while. "Now, lead the way, hero."

Kallan just blinked at her. Really? She had? He cursed in his mind before digging for the name. If he just hadn’t gotten sick. Dammit! He really was beating himself up now, “I swear if you don’t tell me then I might just rename you.” Eventually he would remember…but he didn’t want her to see him struggling with it. Knowing her any form of torment for him was amusement galore for her. Great, just great. Dear friend Saphina...wait not Tarina....no dear friend Sakina! Dear friend his a**.

The memory sudden flickered there and Kallan grinned. So that was it then? The name bounced around in his head as the fevered tidbits flickered back and forth in his mind. Still he couldn’t help, but to shrug at her. “Guess it’s not important then if I couldn’t remember it.” Fixing his own pack over his shoulder the cervitaur expertly skirted around some brush before continuing on the mostly hidden trail that he took towards his own home, “It’s wet and cold so you better keep up. I’m not going slow here.” He warned before starting off through the path. Rain was starting to pick up and he was cursing himself every step of the way.

Soon though a sigh of relief came across him as the trees thinned out and the tangled patches of a small garden came into view. A grove of trees wrapped around a stone path which twisted through the old oaks and towards a small stone cottage where the back had an actual yard with woodsheds and the like there. Kallan peered back towards her with a frown, “Now don’t you be destroyin’ anything in there once we get inside. I’d rather not lose my house to some stupid actions.” He paused after another step, “And don’t touch anything that looks fragile…better yet try not to touch much at all. Come one then.” Just at the moment the skies started to really open and the cold rain began to downpour, “Hurry!” Raising his cloak above his head the cervitaur bolted from the cover of the trees and down the path where he raced for the shelter of his own roof.

Sakina smirked and kept her mouth shut. What sort of name would he call her. She didn't think it would be anything good, but it would be amusing to see how childish he would be.

Her ears perked as he shrugged and spoke. Not important?! She snorted and shook her head. "Yer jus' too stupid ta remember it." She kept up the pace Kallan set with a fair amount of ease, despite how much longer the male's stride was. She knew the woods, and walked with a confident step. Her hands were finally starting to feel again, and she looked down at the dark bruises forming along the slim appendages. Ugh...

When the cottage came into view, her steps finally slowed. The place... it looked like a mansion to her eyes. It looked solid, and protected, and warm. She stopped paying attention to Kallan's warning to gawk at the place. It was beautiful... Why did such a jerk have such a nice place?! Grumbling under her breath, she meandered over to the front door in defiance of Kallan's order to hurry. It was cold and wet and miserable, but danged if she'd give him the pleasure of ordering her around!

Kallan snorted, “I’m sorry that fevers tend to blur memories, ya Imp.” He trudged on ahead though a smile lingered on his lips. “Might be a good thing since it blurred your annoying self a bit more; Goodness knows that probably kept me from goin’ under there. Didn’t want to die and have to be stuck in a place like that with you.” He faked a shiver and crossed his arms, “That would be a curse on its own.” He would have haunted her so greatly though…all the things that he could do to torment her in turn.

Looking back he watched her expression as she spotted his home. Something better than her shack that surprising? The buck just shook his head at her reluctance to come quickly even with the rain. “Don’t gawk too much and come inside. I’ll get you something dry and we can got to the kitchen, the fire’s still goin’ there.” Last thing he wanted was for her to get sick as well. Though if she had survived that death trap for so long he felt she could survive any sort of disaster without even hitching a breath. Crazy female.

Opening the door to a dark wooden floor the cervitaur tossed his cloak towards the corner where a hook was before walking towards a doorway on the left where lights of a crackling fire danced over the walls. The stone floor gleamed with copper and dirt colors while the table in there was sturdy and made for a family of four, porcelain also shone in the cabinents. This place that was so tidy and neat was the cervitaur’s own sanctuary just as it had been his mother’s. Everything was just as she had had it years ago. Every single detail from his childhood he remembered and he tried to keep up with it.

Grabbing a black pot the cervitaur sloshed some water around as he placed it quickly above the fire. The fireplace itself was wide and made for cooking. Against the walls were shelves of spices, all carefully organized, and other such things like flour and sugars. Wooden shutters blocked out the pounding rain leaving only candles on the table and counters to light the way next to the fireplace. Gesturing towards a chair the male unfolded an old quilt and placed it there, “Come on and use that if you want.”

Sakina was quite content to ignore Kallan's irritated glares as she strolled through the horrid weather. She'd been in it for a while already, trying to patch that roof. Another minute wouldn't hurt anything! "That there would be a heckova curse! Stuck with yer butt decayin' all over my floor."

The inside shocked her even more than the outside. It was so... clean. Organized. Like someone from one of those town picture books than an actual home. "Ya really live in this?" she asked, wrinkling her nose. She was afraid to touch anything! It all looked like it would break from the slightest brush. How did a big oaf like Kallan not smash everything to pieces? She looked toward the offered chair and quilt, and slowly walked over to it. Just as carefully, she reached out and ran her hand over the worn fabric. More comfortable with the clearly used quilt, she picked it up and wrapped it around her shoulders before lifting it to sniff. Mostly Kallan's scent, but others resided in the memories of the fabric. Where were the owners of those scents?

“You would probably just leave it there.” Kallan chortled, “It would match perfectly with the rest of that deathtrap.” It could be a good warning for anyone who dared to come close to her. He sighed quietly under his breath. So why hadn’t he had the common sense to just turn about and leave that day? Must have been possessed by something. That just had to be it. Else why would he have stuck around so long and started to actually…care ? Caring, what a word for something to have for someone like her. Just out of duty and nothing more. That he told himself over and over.

Her question startled him and Kallan nodded, “Unlike some I know I try to keep things in order. At least in here…” He trailed off and grabbed two mugs from a shelf, “I would never mess up what my mother worked so hard to keep.” Dammit why would he even think of saying all that? He should have just come back up with a smart comment. It wasn’t like he was a big oaf either…she just brought out that temper in him. Stupid female that she was.

“Do you drink tea?” He asked quietly as he sat the mugs down before her and began to dig through a wood box where homemade tea bags rested. Each were valued by him as he once more kept to the past that haunted the kitchen yet comforted him at the same time, “Surely you have some form of being civilized in you despite being a fiend. It’ll do you good considering you also look like a drenched mouse currently.”

Sakina shook her head. "Naw. Why leave it there fer the flies? I'll just bury ya in my garden fer the veggies," she said with quite a serious tone. If the idiot was going to rot at her place, might as well make use of him!

Her gaze lowered though, thinking about her own parents. Would they really be upset with how the place was falling apart? ..Well, no one had taught her otherwise!

Tail flicking with irritation, sprinkling water around, she looked for a safe place to sit. Where...? "I'm a fiend?!" She huffed and pulled the quilt tighter around herself. "I do drink tea. While yer at it, take'a look at yer reflection, ya rat!" Still, she raised a hand to comb her hair with her fingers. Did she really look so bad?
PostPosted: Thu Nov 07, 2013 8:19 pm

“Then I just have to continue hopin’ that my body would rot all of yer garden out in revenge.” Smiling ever so politely the cervitaur continued on browsing through the teas. Oddly enough he did find himself caring when her gaze lowered. Did he finally hit a nerve or? Was something bothering her? Cursing in his mind Kallan ripped his gaze away once he realized he had been staring at her. Crazy wild female that she was he should just continue on and not worry about it. Damn, there was something wrong with him. Maybe that sickness really hadn’t left completely yet?

Kallan snorted in amusement at her question, “Obviously. You’re some sort of demented forest sprite.” He tilted his head and nodded, “I can see it. Too reckless and loud as compared to the delicate ones who linger by the forest springs so you had to leave. Some sort of oddball that was meant to curse a random hunter in the woods.” Just happened to be him then so what luck. But was he regretting it? Maybe, but maybe not.

Laughing at her attempt of an insult the cervitaur winked at her, “Never knew rats could look so good.” Shuffling through the packages some more he listened as the water began to steam, “Alright so do you have any preferences of tea since you do drink it?” He pulled out a pack for himself and placed it in a mug while waiting on her reply.

Sakina snorted and shook her head. "Nah. Ye'd hafta be sumthin' worse then yer stinkin' butt ta not even feed a few 'taters." Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea. That garden was looking quite pathetic as of late. She didn't have her mother's green thumb. ...She didn't get much from her parents except their unfailing determination.

Ah. So his problem was that she wasn't delicate? "Get mehself a sayin'. 'The strong live on, past them delicate dead." She nodded quite sagely, recalling her mother telling her this quite often. Those delicate little flakes in town wouldn't survive out in the woods! Her mother had said it in response to a few of the more 'proper' ladies in town giggling at her strong build once. Of course, Sakina's build was much smaller than her mother's had been. She'd always hated that fact. "Asides, yer the one comin' an' bringin' tha' rain storm. Looks ta me that yer the one carryin' curses ta others."

"Yea've an odd idea of good lookin'. Most folk shy away from drowned, bloated rodents, far as I know." Of all the stubborn males! ....Never mind that this was the first male she'd truly interacted with since her family had vanished....

When he requested her tea preference, she looked at him blankly. There was... more than one kind of tea? "....hot." she said firmly. Her father had made iced tea during the hot summer a few times. Was that what Kallan meant?

Kallan chuckled, “So I’m not that disgusting to ya then? Good to know.” Oddly enough the cervitaur wasn’t as spiteful to the female as their first meeting. Was he warming up to her a bit then? Nah, it was probably the fact that he was in his own home which was warm and comforting to him. It felt much better than tossing about with a fever. That was the reason. The only reason that it could be and would be, he decided firmly.

“Hmph. The strong or the stubborn you mean?” The buck just shook his head at her. It seemed that she was more stubborn than anything. Especially after seeing how she lived and that place she lived in…the cervitaur sighed. It was going to take a ton of work to fix that place up. He still felt wary about leaving her out there even then…he was thankful her stubborn butt had at least agreed to coming here. The winter storms would have killed her. Crazy, stubborn, female that she was…he only laughed at her comment, “Yes! Obviously you know I love bringin’ rains down on ya. If only I could be fortunate enough to carry a curse against stubborn mules like you. Not my fault ya couldn’t stand the weather in that death trap.” Took a good rain to get her out of there…good. Even if it had made him sick last time. Kallan’s nose crinkled at the memory of having a fever. It still took a good week for him to fully heal from that ridiculous ordeal. Death trap indeed.

His gaze softened at her obvious confusion. Holding back the smart comment that he normally would have thrown at her the cervitaur just picked out another packet that matched his before placing it in the second mug. Leaving the box opened on the table he carefully took the hot water from the fire place and poured each into a mug. Placing a steaming mug in front of Sakina he grinned, “As much as I would love to see that smart tongue get burned quiet, be careful. It is hot.”

Ears twitching, Sakina sighed heavily. "Disgustin'? ...no. Rude, obnoxious, ornery, and butt-headed? Definitely." He looked a sight better now that when they'd first met, admittedly. For one thing, he wasn't covered in vines and muck. For another, he wasn't wracked with fever. He looked like a good, strong, healthy, handsome....

She bristled visibly, and growled at his further teasing of her home. "Well, if yer gonna be that snarky 'bout it, I'll jus' take mehself right back home! Was doin' jus' fine til yer butt dragged up and distracted me. Yer the bugger who made me leave!" Pouting, she crossed her arms, but made no actual move to leave from where she sat. It was warm and dry here....

When the mug was placed down, and the surprisingly polite warning given, she leaned forward to give the warm steam a sniff. Maybe he was being polite because he'd poisoned it? Maybe he was going to try getting back at her for the fever? "Thanks so much fer yer considerations," she grumped, though she did let the tea sit a moment, still inhaling the steam to chase off the remaining chill within. Blowing on the surface gently, she took a careful sip, and sighed softly. This tea was delicious, and instantly hit that last bit of chill within... She would never say it out loud, but the quality was clearly better than that her parents had used. "Thanks," she said softly, with much more sincerity that before, taking another careful sip.

The cervitaur just grinned at the female from over the top of his mug, “Glad you think so well of me, imp.” His gaze gleamed through the steam before he straightened up to take a sip. It was refreshing to taste the herbs that lingered on his tongue, with just a hint of spices to it to add to the warmth it gave him. It was perfect for a rainy day like this. The thought made Kallan glance over towards the window where the rain was still steadily falling. Even though he was used to the autumn rains he felt like a huge flood could occur if it kept up. Almost like some rare disaster. The idea just made him shake his head quietly, he was dealing with a disaster enough here.

Talking about that…Kallan just shrugged at her, “If ya wanna go through that storm back and sleep in an ocean of water then go for it.” A rumble of thunder in the distance decorated his words and the buck smiled evilly. Perfect timing on that one. “And as it was I just told ya to come, didn’t drag ya at all.” Surprising really with their track record and all. It was nice knowing he could get her to come here without adding more bruises and cuts to his body. As delicate as she could appear from a distance the cervitaur really was tough…if not just a stubborn devil.

Leaning forward with his head propped up in a hand the cervi didn’t realize he was watching Sakina until she spoke. Still all Kallan did was laugh softly, “Can’t help but to care for some of the wild things of these woods…” He commented softly. She really was though. Just like some wild spirit or animal that he had run across. At first they were all claws, but then eventually…his gaze softened for a split second before he nearly spewed out his tea in a sarcastic display, “What was that which just came from you?” He raised a hand to his ear, “I didn’t think you could actually say something polite.” He would much rather expect a punch from her instead of that one.

A glare was thrown at Kallan, but Sakina was just trying to warm up. Imp. Well, he'd called her worse before. She supposed she could tolerate 'imp' for the sake of being warm. "Yer makin' a trip back home awful tempting, hero," she grouched, glaring again through the steam.

Care for the wild things... Was he talking about...? No. He was just teasing her again! Still, the scent of the tea was enchanting, and she was lost in the divine flavors momentarily. Of course, the peace couldn't last. His shock made her brows knit, and she growled. "Ya know darned well what I said! Hero's ain't suppose ta gloat, ya ninny!"

Grumbling under her breath a little, she sulked into her mug of tea.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 11, 2013 7:37 pm

“Mmmhmm.” He grinned darkly, “I know.” Taking a drink of his own tea the cervitaur allowed the taste to linger for a moment on his tongue before slowly swallowing the warmth. Maybe she would leave soon…but at the same time it wasn’t wise. Moving slowly away from the table Kallan started browsing through his shelves to give him something to do. Else he would find himself staring at her again. Surely it was because she was the first female he allowed even around him in years…that had to be it. He had forgotten how troublesome they could be. It was better to take care of the nuisance though than to have it haunt him, he reasoned with himself once more.

Peering back over his shoulder Kallan chuckled, “I’m upgraded to hero now?” He just shook his head as he moved some more glasses, “Though I guess I enjoy gloating too much so I can’t be one.” The cervitaur paused before moving back away from the cabinets, “Have you even ate recently? I don’t know about you after all…” He could just imagine her putting food off just to fight with that stupid roof all day. He frowned and shook the image out of his head. Didn’t matter, he was just being a host. He was letting himself get too close…he didn’t need to actually bond with anyone. That just caused disaster…

“If you are the cellar is out in the back. Key is hangin’ by the door here.” He patted the wall where several old brass keys hung, “You can make dinner if ya want. I’m not going to baby ya after all if you’re goin’ to stay for the night or so.” The buck glanced outside, “Just don’t make a mess out there where the garden is. Feel free to dig about it as well.” His gaze narrowed as he looked back towards her, “I’ll be getting’ some things done. So don’t bother me unless ya really need something.” There that would give him time and space. Less damage to him that way. Turning he left the room and the door closed quickly behind him without another word.

"Far too much," she grouched into her tea. When the question of food came up, another blank gaze came over her expression. When had she last eaten....? Probably breakfast. Some hours ago. She looked up as Kallan headed out, and glanced at the keys. Her lips pursed slightly, but she remained seated. Standing out in the rain, fighting with the roof, going back and forth with this strange male, and now in a warm house and a cup of hot tea.... She was tired. She sipped at the cup until it was empty, and then stood. She looked around, eyes landing on the nice little couch. As delicate as that frilly couch looked... she was fairly dry by now. Hesitantly, she curled up on the soft furniture with a sigh. So comfy... she was asleep within a couple minutes, still wrapped in the blanket.
