Alara

Alara had been too busy feeding Lypith and answering her endless stream of questions to notice much else. In her peripheral vision she'd seen another green and her rider arrive not that long ago though.

Then out of nowhere some blue was calling her greedy and Evzen was sheepishly apologizing and trying to tell Aspith that he couldn't say those sorts of things out loud.

On the one hand Alara was pleased to see Evzen had impressed. On the other apparently he and his dragon were in disagreement on whether they wanted to be friends with her. Hopefully they worked that out soon because they were both weyrlings now which meant they'd be seeing a lot of each other whether Aspith liked it or not. She'd give him a few minutes to start getting his dragon fed and calmed down though before she tried to talk with him.

Instead she reached out through the bond to Lypith
Was Aspith that grouchy in his egg? Sometimes dragons seemed to know about each other even before they hatched, forming bonds or rivalries still within the egg.

Tacelon

The two greens had Impressed first, and without much more fuss, aside from some overeager running around and the blue getting cranky at one of them. A couple of the other hatchlings, including the blue, got in a bit of a stand off, but the big bronze broke that up before there was more than posturing and noise. Good for the bronze, Tacelon would rather not see anyone hurt today, hatchlings included. The same blue finally moved off towards the Candidates. The male ones. Tacelon was careful to step aside in case he was still annoyed, but he slipped right through the cluster of boys until he found His and Impressed. Perhaps now he could get out of the public eye again, maybe hide behind one of the feeding tables, since he'd seemed so inclined to hide among the eggs.

So that left two browns and a bronze on the sands. Or maybe not, he found as he turned hit attention back to the unbonded dragonets. Another egg was starting to crack and flake apart, and as he watched the occupant began to claw it open. Before long another dark blue was on the sands, surveying the Candidates. He seemed quite focused, paying no mind to his brothers on the sand.

It took all the patience Emora had to bite her tongue to keep from telling the rest of the girls to kindly shut up. Instead she settled for giving them a clearly disdainful look from the corner of her eyes as she focussed on the eggs. Silly wherries hadn't even notice the hatching of the new blue leaving not one, but four dragons unimpressed on the sands.

Four dragons that were clearly taking their sweet time between the two browns, the bronze, and now the freshly hatched blue. One might even hazard to say that the sands were getting a touch crowded with all these unmatched hatchlings. Shaking her head Emora sighed watching the eggs shake torn between interest and a sickening nostalgia that seemed to bubble up inside her poisoning whatever enjoyment she might have gleaned from the whole encounter. Even the hot sands couldn't seem to thaw out the the chill in her spine and only proceeded to make the mass of scars hidden under the long sleeves of her tunic itch, just the top of which just barely peaked over the edge of the long neck cut of her candidate robes showing of a pale scarred shoulder.

Wow, not too long after the last Blue impressed another one of them had hatched to take his place as the blue upon the sands leaving a total of four boys on the sands looking for their partner, some having waiting a little bit longer then the rest. Surely they must be getting hungry she found herself thinking, silently urging them on to finding their partners so that they end up getting too hungry. Her eyes moved quickly, flicker between each of the four on the sands, toward where the two Greens and the Blue had gone with the partners, then back again, "Half and half." She murmured to herself, realizing that had the eggs had hatched and half were still in their shells. Of those in the shells three of them were eggs that she'd met with, the tri-colored Green being the only egg that she'd met with that had hatched so far.

She found herself glancing toward the black egg then, wondering if it would end up being the very last one to hatch. She couldn't say that she would be too shocked since it seemed to be a bit withdrawn when she met with it and very, very quiet. She supposed that she would see soon enough which hatched and when. She would just be happy if she could be that particular baby hatch and find his or her partner quickly, even if it wasn't her. So long as there was someone to look after that one she thought herself before lifting a hand to fiddle with her braid as she waited for the little ones to make their next move.

Although the candidates may be impatient for the hatchlings to just get on with it and impress, it seemed the dragons themselves had other ideas. Whether it be evaluating the candidates from afar, investigating the other eggs or nursing wounded pride, this group of males seemed to have no intention of hurrying for anyone. Nor did it seem that they would be encouraged to do so by the large female guarding them. Whether it was because this particular female was under the impression that the candidates were there at the hatchling's convenience and therefor should wait however long they decided to take or because she had become occupied silently glaring daggers at the group of candidates who had seen fit to begin a petty squabble and so was not as focused on hurrying the hatchlings along only her rider knew.

It seemed also that another dragon had decided to join their ranks as the Serval egg began to hatch. Unlike the egg before it, this one was all about being seen. It rocked, spun and near bounced at one point, though it's attention grabbing endeavour did not last long. Once a large crack appeared there was a triumphant rumble, before two feet and a head forced their way out. The dragon hauled himself out and seem to actually strut away from his egg. Oh yes, this one was a dragon that wanted people to notice him. He came to a stop, at a slight angle to the candidates and mantled his wings. The male then tilted his head up slightly, regarding the candidates just out of the corner of his eye, choosing the perfect pose to cause the light of the cavern to dance off his striped bronze hide.

Mei

What a little show pony! She'd always heard that bronzes were good luck, but then again she'd also heard that stepping on cracks could break a mother's back. She wasn't one for superstition generally, but even so, the bronze was nice to look at. Then again, a lot of the dragonets so far had rather impressive markings on their hides aside from the Elephant Bronze. Then again, that particular dragon made up for that with sheer size and power. Of course, this little bronze was -keenly- aware of how pretty he was, it seemed. Heh! Typical bronze, if their reputations were anything to go by, but she idly supposed that sort of competitive nature was necessary considering they were the dragons that flew after Queens. Idly, she made little guesses in her head, personal bets as to which of the bronzes would go to who.

It was obvious where the bronzes would be heading, but Mei had hopeful eyes towards the gruff little brown, whose egg she'd spent a bit of time with at the Egg Touching. He seemed gruff and a little unfriendly, but that landed a certain no-nonsense charm that she found endearing, even as she told herself that browns typically went to boys. Don't get your hopes up; you need to keep yourself open for the dragon who actually -wants- you. She mentally chastised herself.

Hennory

Much like everyone else, Hennory was drawn to the new egg, making such a display of himself that when he burst from his shell it drew a cheer from the crowd in the stands. This bronze seemed a touch bombastic. Would such a dragon find him too reserved? Or perhaps they would make use of each other's strengths. Or perhaps the elephant bronze would provide a grounded rock of stability, or perhaps another little green would hatch and be the sweet window to fun and excitement in his life. Perhaps even yet, a cool, deep and brooding blue would see into his deeper thoughts, or a stolid and gruff brown would find him worthy.

Till then, the fantasy dragon in Hennory's dreams would remain a colorless, ephemeral hope, desperate only to be considered worthy to one of them.

Mairin

Mairin had edged herself as far away as was reasonably possible from the other female candidates. She wanted nothing to do with the whole lot of them, you probably couldn't, in her opinion, get a functional and reliable crew out of that bunch. The worst thing in her mind was that some of them were bound to impress. Dragons chose based on all sorts of things you couldn't predict and sometimes they choose people who were not exactly pleasant, trustworthy or wholesome There were poor dragonriders, bad Weyrleaders and even the tales of those like Kylara of gold Pridith back in the 9th pass who were horrendous Weyrwoman and caused two golds to needlessly die.

The young woman crossed her arms and focused her attention purely on the hatchlings milling about and the eggs yet unhatched. Mairin was more than a little sad when the serval egg revealed that it held a bronze. She had liked that one and had been willing to see what sort of meddling and tricks it wanted. Girls didn't ride bronzes though, it was one of those unbreakable rules like golds not accepting male riders.

Maybe Hennory could get him then if she couldn't, although she wasn't all that sure that he'd be okay with a dragon who seemed to feel rules existed for the purpose of holding people back. Given that the bronze dragonet's colour prevented her from hoping for him Mairin was inclined to agree at the moment.

Ameleia couldn't help but to give a bit of a laugh as the next dragon made his appearance, strutting his stuff, looking as though he wanted everyone to see just how beautiful he really was. Another bronze, putting the number of males on the sands up to five, "Wow, lots of babies milling about." She murmured to herself, then gave a smile when the second bronze struck a pose and she felt the desire to clap but him and the way that he was posing, but refrained. Best that she didn't do anything that might startle them she reminded herself. The last thing she wanted was to scare any of the little ones just become one of them was doing a good job at his strutting, "Very handsome." She said, deciding that while she didn't want to scare them she didn't mind complimenting him. Yet another pretty boy that any of the male candidates would be lucky to impress she decided.

Her eyes went through out the other boys that were moving about the sands, curious to see what they might be thinking at the moment. She could only guess, though at the moment it was likely allow about finding the one meant for them, if they were among the Candidates or the crowd, and maybe thinking about food as well? That was her guess at least at this point. Shifting once more on the hot sands she continued to look between each of the five boys, waiting to see what they would do next, or if they meant to wait just a while longer, to make sure their they found their perfect person.

Turning from the little ones for a moment she looked from side to side, taking in the other Candidates for a moment, then back again, wondering which dragon would go to which Candidate, and which would move first. It really was something that made her heart race even though everything seemed to be at a bit of a stand still at the moment.

Lysandor

Blinking he turned his head, there was something going on between some of the girl candidates perhaps there was some bickering..or a tense discussion between a few of themselves. Lysandor wondered what exactly they could be ...arguing about on the sands? What could possibly be more important than the dragonets hatching? Though he hadn't any idea what words they were exchanging he felt himself rub an arm, he didn't understand it really. Getting angry didn't really solve any problems.

Shifting he went to regard the gold dragon, noting that she looked...very cross. Though he could understand why Lysandor tried to shrug off the uncomfortable feeling that a fight might break loose and return his attention to the eggs. Another one had begun hatching the Serval egg revealed a bronze that wanted to show off its beautiful pattern and hide. Lysandor gave a small smile, watching it as it struck a pose in a rather dramatic fashion.

Fitcher

Well now he was just getting impatient. For creatures that supposedly couldn't live without their riders, these lot sure were taking their sweet time doing it. At least a few had hurried along and actually done what they were here for. Unlike the other candidates, Fitch was not enamoured with the pretty little hatchlings, nor feeling anxious that one might not choose him. If there was anything Fitcher had learned from seeing the girls of his hold work, a pretty exteriour didn't mean a nice interior. There were young women back home that he wouldn't even consider tangling with for fun. They were just as ruthless as they were attractive. It seemed that the only cheerful hatchling had actually been the one to get on with it. The rest seemed to prefer skulking or sulking. Fitcher couldn't say he felt all that comfortable with the bronze and blue watching them as intently as they were.

The young male turned his head slightly when he heard a slight commotion coming from the girl's side of the candidates. What had gotten them all in a tiz? It was hard to tell from this far away and when he couldn't really hear what they were talking about. Still he was naturally curious about what they would find to have an arguement about now. Weren't all these Weyr candidates supposed to be so enchanted by the hatchlings that they couldn't focus on anything else? Though from what he heard it sounded like usually they were too focus to get out of the way fast enough. As far as Fitch was concerned, anything that had you letting your guard down was a bad idea.

There seemed to be a commotion so he focused back on the eggs, only to see a new bronze parading himself around. Now usually he'd roll his eyes at a dragon so self obsessed that it was strut around like a wherry in the breeding season, but there was a cockiness to this fellow that, though he did roll his eyes, brought a slightly smile to his features. Now where had he seen that kind of behaviour before?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cesa
Up in the stands, Cesa watched the hatching with a familiar smile on her face. True, there was little nostalgia for her in the actual situation. It wasn't like she had ever stood on the sands under a gold's watchful gaze and wait impatiently for a hatchling to take notice of her when Yodith had. In fact, she had never play the candidate part. Mecesa had always been content to not be a dragon rider, not really showing much interest in the matter. Certainly she had liked dragons, knowing many and the majority of them being perfectly pleasant individuals, she just didn't see them as the only path to take. Her grandmother wasn't a rider, yet people respected her and never thought that her life was empty without one of the large creatures bonded to her, so Cesa had come to the conclusion you didn't need a dragon to be happy or fulfilled.
She had felt fulfilled too and happy. Cesa never would have said her life was lacking anything and still now she wouldn't. She imagined it was like after someone had children or fell in love. There was no imagining life for her now without Yodith in it, but that didn't make anything she had experienced prior to the green's hatching any less important. Mecesa had already been an adult at the time, thoroughly secure in her lifestyle and who she was, but she still knew there was no going back to how she once had been. That was life though, things happened and changed who you were, some were good, some were bad. Some bad you a better person, some made you worse. Cesa was certain that Yodith made her better. The dragon's calm acceptance and in the moment thinking had convinced her not to worry as much over 'could's and 'might be's. Teaching Cesa to take every day and opportunity as it came. Of course, that didn't mean she was always like that.
Seeing yet another green hatch, the woman smiled. She remembered when Yodith had been that small. A shame it hadn't been until some time after her hatching. Looking up Cesa managed to spot the lithe green watched the proceedings from a ledge. She had managed to find an unoccupied one and was content to lie on her side watching the hatchlings hatch and impress. There were times, usually at hatchings, that Cesa was glad that Yodith couldn't remember her own hatching or how different she had been and how many had doubted her. She knew exactly what the green would do if she were reminded: dismiss it all and point out that she was there and healthy, therefore everyone's worries had been wrong.' Yodith had been confident from the day she hatched that she was strong enough to defeat other people's concerns.
Ashlyn
Ashlyn actually was paying close attention to the little blue, but felt eyes on the girls. She looked up a moment and saw the queen, internally wincing and giving the majestic queen an apologetic look. She hadn't meant to upset anyone and she wanted the queen to know that, it wasn't her way. She was a person who tried to keep others from fighting and she always wanted people to be happy. Once she gave her apology, she looked back to the blue, wondering who he would go to. She actually would be very happy with a blue or any dragon who felt she was worthy.
Her eyes were briefly drawn to something moving and saw a bronze appear, being a bit of a showboat. She rolled her eyes and wondered who the showy bronze would go to, not knowing the boys very well. She was sure she would learn more about them, but for now, her eyes returned to the blue to see what he was doing.
Evzen
Alara had smiled at Evzen and waved off his apologies letting the young boy settle into the task of feeding Aspith as well as berating him. He found it quite easy after the first try to reach out and speak through his mind with the blue hided hatching.
Alara is my friend Aspith, she just, she has bad points like everyone else and she's older than me so you can't talk about them. Evzen was barely old enough to be a candidate, Alara was nearly a woman, even if they were both just weyrlings now the age gap came with a level of respect that did not allow him to verbalize his distaste of some of her flaws.
You could make better friends... if there are better people here.
Aspith was not entirely convinced that there was a single trusthworthy soul in the whole Weyr except his. How they were going to protect each other from so many prying eyes and devious minds the little blue did not know. For now he focused on chewing and swallowing the chunks of meat he was being handed. he needed to sate his hunger so that he could focus again. Then, he would plan how best to navigate the world he had been hatched into and how they would escape it to a better place. One which Aspith did not know yet but one he was sure of existed.
Zofer
The blue didn't even try to fight back when the brown intimidated him, though it took the intervention of that enormous bronze to break the two up. Zofer's smile widened, remembering back to Turnover when he'd stepped between the two grown riders acting like children. T'rel would have to be the hissy blue, he decided. G'deon was definitely the better of the two. Despite his forward advances, of which Zofer did not reciprocate, Zofer had liked the young man.
Another blue was quick to replace the Black Mamba. Hippo was another less than friendly egg if he recalled. Were all blues just nasty little bastards? Well, it was better than Black Mamba. Where he had been fussing like a too-tired toddler, the hippo had just given a presence, a warning that you were in danger. Zofer would be wary when Hippo decided to move.
And another! Not a blue this time though. Now this was more like it! The Serval Bronze's grand entrance earned a look of appreciation from Zofer. So he had two shots at Bronze! What did he remember of their eggs? He knew he had the favorable impression of the Elephant bronze, it had been calm and reassuring, a steady presence, which wasn't that bad. The Serval though...a prankster, or something a little more cruel? Zofer admired the young dragons handsome markings but felt the large Elephant was more likely.
Honey Badger and Secretary Bird were still unmatched as well.
Whilst the newest arrival in the clutch seemed to greatly enjoy the admiration that he received by parading himself, he was largely ignored by the other hatchlings. Except for one. One that had not been already been focused on something. Honey Badger stood among the eggs and watched as the lithe bronze drew the eyes of near everyone with his behaviour and appearance. Rumbling his irritation with the showy bronze, Honey Badger skirted around the bronze. Maybe he could get around the pompous male and not have to suffer him if he went this way.
Turning his gaze away from the bronze the brown stopped suddenly when he nearly collided with Hippopotamus. Ugh, another stupid blue getting in his way again. There were far too many of them around, this area far too cluttered for his liking. Honey Badger growled, hunching his shoulders, to indicate that the large blue should get out of his way soon unless it wanted a problem.
Hippopotamus however was not one to be intimidated. The robust blue had ignored Honey Badger's presence up to this point, looking instead over the candidates from a distance. When however he heard a growl the blue's head whipped to the side and red eyes immediately fixed on the brown in front of him. Hippopotamus never made a sound, staring unblinking at his brother that had attempted to move him through intimidation. Unlike Honey Badger's previous opponent, Hippopotamus was not small. The blue was big for his size and looked as though in a brute strength fight would be an even match for the brown should they come to blows.
Honey Badger stared straight back at Hippopotamus for a few moments, though his growl had long since died off. The brown seemed to be weighing up whether it was worth attempting to take on this blue that had such a coll anger to him. The large blue that stood and stared at him so blankly was an unknown factor and the brown wasn't certain he was willing to take on this dragon he knew so little about. Honey Badger grunted, a mix of irritation and dismissal, and turned away from the blue. Stupid creature.
Now he was in a bad mood and was less concerned about moving around Serval. The brown headed straight for the candidates, shouldering his larger sibling out of the way as he did so. He had no time for the swaggering show off anymore. Pacing the line of the candidates the brown walked past the boys and on to the girls. Ugh, it was too crowded here as well. Why were there so many people constantly getting in his way. Mine! The brown barked into one of the girl's minds. There are far too many people here and your Voracath does not like it. We shall go elsewhere, my Jasiline. I do not wish to be crowded any longer. No come out of that cluster of weaklings and feed me. The brown pinned rainbow eyes on Jasiline through the crowd and though his voice was harsh and clearly irritated, love and admiration swamped into the girl. After all, Jasiline was the only one that was going to be able to make Voracath feel better.
Lysandor
The newest bronze was still posing and showing off, though it seemed some of the other dragons were only rolling their eyes at it. Or at least that was how it seemed to Lysandor, especially when the honey badger dragonet seemed to get rather irritated by the showy bronze and nearly bumping into the blue hippopotamus. The honey badger seemed to have a bit of a temper as he growled at the blue (who was rather large for a blue) and the blue was not moving.
It was interesting how the blue stared the brown down, it was admirable that it would not resort to violence and managed to deture the brown just by looking at it. Though the honey badger seemed to have decided he had enough of this and instantly choose his candidate one of the girls. It was usual for a brown to choose a girl but it wasn't unheard of. Another impression underway Lysandor took a deep breath and released it slowly.
There were still dragonets on the sands and eggs yet unhatched, he couldn't help but feel his nervousness trying to get the better of him.
