His hand had reached out, his fingers had wrapped around the map, sliding it out of the drunkard's pocket. He was just about to open the seal when..."Yahh!" Something grabbed his ankle and the world swung wildly upside down.
Oh great, I just get the map and I'm spotted by a big lunkhead, Thai thought, as an ogre picked him up by the ankle and declared his foot was good luck. Map clutched in hand, he thought fast, since he wanted to keep his foot still attached to his leg, if he could.
"H-hey hey, I know of something even better than a monkey foot. Wayyy more fun too! If you put me down, I'll show it to you" Thai jabbered, waving his map in the air. It was still rolled up tight and he couldn't know for sure, but he suspected it might lead to treasure. The men who had it looked like rugged adventurers. And no one carried a map for no good reason.

"Hate to break it to ye sonny, but the item ye be tinking of is a rabbit's foot, na a monkey's foot." A dwarf with a long pipe stated from the sidelines of the arm wrestling ring. Furrowing his heavy brow in confusion, Runk looks about for his lover to confirm the dwarf's statement.
Making her way through the crowd to Runk and Thai's side, the expectant orc nods. "He be right." Viper answers, positioning her body close enough to Thai that the arm flailing about with the roll of paper was hidden by her belly. "Now please return our friend to his feet."
With practiced hands, Viper pretended to assist Runk while in reality she was removing the map-like paper from Thai's hand and hiding it up the half-monkey sleeve. Giving Thai a wink, she backs off a step and Runk lets him go.

((Gah, I had so much trouble with this. cat_gonk Viper, you probably kind of know what I'm trying to do...I'll edit this if need be))
"That's right, monkey feet are bad luck. You definitely don't want it!". Thai nodded vigorously at the dwarf's statement but quickly stopped when his forehead throbbed. Stupid door, bonking him in the head like that. A bruise probably now marred his good looks!
He was glad when the dwarven fellow had spoken up, though it took a while for the words to sink into the ogre's thick skull and apparently they weren't enough to convince him to let go. Thai wriggled around, trying to get free of Runk's grip, to no avail. His meaty hand was tight as a vice.
Of course it probably helped that the half monkey was used to hanging upside down but it still wasn't the most comfortable position to be in, as all the blood rushed to his pounding head and the lute strapped to his back was trying to fall off. One hand was holding his shirt so it didn't flop down over his face and the other held the precious map that he was waving around.
Just when he was trying to think of something witty to persuade the ogre to let him go, a large and very pregnant looking orc lumbered over to them. Watching her approach, Thai's eyes bugged out. She was huge! He started to feel an ounce of worry as she got so close, wondering what she was up to. Orcs weren't exactly known for their kindness and gentleness. But her words belied her true nature and Thai was instantly grateful to the woman for her efforts, as well as guilty for being suspicious of her. As soon as he was let go, he sprang back to his feet, before giving the orc a playful yet sincere bow. "Thank you kindly, Ms Orc. Sorry for the trouble!” Thai shouted, to be heard above the noise of the tavern. "I promise, I shall try to stay out of it".
Now, back to finding that elven girl who'd helped stupefy those men he'd fallen on top of. She had to be around here somewhere and he did want to thank her properly. Trouble was, with the tavern this full and the jostle of bodies and with Viper blocking Gwen from view, he couldn't find the woman. He'd sensed her magic before, true. But there was a mixture of magical energies in here and right now the little spell she was weaving wasn't strong enough to stand out from the rest.
He on the other hand, seemed to stick out like a sore thumb, what with Runk's previous actions and Viper's intervention, the laughter of the arm wrestlers still stinging his ego.
"Oi, why don't ye join us fer a friendly wager? That'll keep ye outta trouble" one of the wrestlers offered in a friendly manner, accidentally provoking more laughter from the circle of patrons.
"Unless ye prefer to go back ta swinging from yon rafters" another man piped up. Guffaws met the man's speech, and Thai couldn't refuse the offer. Sure, he was part monkey, but that didn't make him stupid. Wasn't his fault that he was attracted to shiny, sparkly things. A lot of times it proved to be worth his while.
"Yeah. Okay, sure, I'll do it!" Thai answered, stepping into the ring with a smile. He tried to forget about the map concealed up his sleeve but it was a little uncomfortable and scratchy. He soon discovered that there was a bit of a wager going on, where they would bet on different things, usually coins, information or items but sometimes more mundane things. "So. What're we betting on?" Thai asked, glancing around.
"One of my buddies has a map of some value. If you win, we hand it over, if you lose, you hand over all of your coin" one of the men explained, with a gap toothed grin. "Twill fund our venture quite nicely".

(Post looks fine to me. Either that or I'm looking/reading at the edited version. No idea where you are going with the map gambling thing but I'll do my best to follow along.)
Despite retiring her role as a thief, Viper's ears perked up at the mystery man's wager. That explains what the monkey got his paws on... she thought. Spinning in place, the pregnant rogue commandeered a nearby stool and likewise joined the circle of gambling men. "Just what kind of map we talking here?" she asks, having been on more than her fair share of treasure hunts.
Having participated in a few of such hunts, Runk easily connected the dots and also joined the ring, further increasing his mate's chances of winning whatever bet was about to occur.

((Hey Viper, I PMed you. Hopefully that clears it up a little bit =^.^= And thanks, I was having a hard time getting the ending bit down right.))
Several glances passed around the ring of arm wrestling buddies and there was muttering between them, before one of them spoke up and answered the orc's question. "Tis an item of great 'istorical relevance to Springfog Town, 'ere. Me buddies happen to be er...ark-ee-oh-logists, studying the er...historical features of the town and it's secrets. Funding be scarce for this kind of work, though, sos' we thought we'd try our luck" the man smirked, clearly confident about the chances of winning. He'd won several rounds already and didn't expect to lose the map or the matches tonight. With the map safe in the keeping of his friends, or so he thought, he would just scarper if he lost, thus making a win/win situation for himself. His friends, still under the effects of Gwenhwyfar's spell...had no idea he was putting their map up for bets.
Thai's yellow eyes lit up as he listened to what the man had said. Aha, so he wasn't the only one getting into mischief today. Might be fun to teach this guy a lesson.
Fighting his way over to Viper and Runk, he greeted the orc and her ogre mate with a half-bow. She had after all, helped him both hide the map, and freed him from her lover's grip and Runk looked like the type who'd be good at this sort of thing.
"Hey, I have an idea, why don't we form teams? Ours..." he motioned to Runk and Viper, looking back at the man whose friends supposedly still had the map. "Against yours! The team with the most wins, wins!" he smiled playfully and his tail waved about in a happy fashion. "If you wouldn't mind, Mr Ogre, Mrs Orc". he gave Runk and Viper both a polite nod each, and grinned at them in a winning manner. "Come on, play with me...play along!" Thai urged, always in the mood for creating mischief. He raised his voice and looked around the circle of onlookers. "Anyone else wanna join in? Better speak up now"

(OOC: Sorry everyone, I get caught up with work. I'm not as free as I used to be xP)
Max watched both expectant women waddle off. Looking at Scrillo he decided to follow after them as well wondering what the fuss was about. He stood next to the elf and crossed his arms as his eyes fell to the strange monkey man.
Apparently there was something about a wager and a map, an ancient map of Springfog. From the man's stance, he seemed like one who loved to cause mischief. Max was a bit tired tonight, and he had just lost his weapon, so he didn't feel like losing anything else. Instead he would watch and glanced over at the heavily pregnant Orc when she was addressed. Funny, now that he thought about it you didn't see many pregnant Orcs she was kind of big for her size too.
Maybe someday he would find someone to have children with, it had always been a dream of his. Turning his attention back to the monkey Max waited to see what would happen next.
(*poke peoples* Come on back and post people, we got a quest of sorts developing!)

"Please, call me Viper." The orc requested, urging the half-monkey to sit in the stool to her left. "And Runk." the ogre adds, standing to Viper's right.
"While I'm interested in what this man is wagering, you must be aware that Runk doesn't play well with others." Viper whispered, casually rubbing her belly. Runk, apparently happily zoned out, attempted to fish a booger out of his nose.
"Keep it civil over there!" Morgan warned from his spot at the bar. "I already got one hole that needs fixin'!"

"I'm not a strong enough to take on any of these nice brut- people. We elves aren't exactly as strong as a dwarf or an orc." Gwenhwyfar spoke to Thai, Runk and Viper. Max was standing next to her, his eyes darting around the map. Though something about that map made Gwen thinking up released the spell she had been channeling. "I'll throw something into the wager. I'll enchant the weapon of the winner for just a little more insentive." The mage had said taking a seat close to the the half-monkey, orc, and ogre.
Elza smiled a little at Tilly's antics. "That's true, with most species, particularly humans." She reached out and gave Mori's shoulder a squeeze. "Of course. I'll admit, I haven't known you for long, but you seem very sweet."
Finishing her stew, she looked around and saw several of the tavern's patrons gathering around. "Hmm, looks like there's some fun going on over there. Care to check it out?" She grabbed another roll and took it with her as she walked over to the group. "Hello, everyone. What seems to be going on here?" She saw what looked to be a map and a few other things laying on the table.
(EDIT BY VIPER: The map is still hidden up Thai's sleeve. The group is just circling around a table at the moment.)

Mori blushed some. "Y-you really think so?" She asked.
Tilly giggled and ran over. "You're making her blush a lot." Tilly teased, climbing up and poking Mori's cheek. This didn't help, but it was kinda hard to tell she was blushing more. Tilly looked over to the group Elza mentioned and jumped some. "Yeah lets go lets go!" She said, pulling on Mori's hood.
"s-sure lets go." Mori said, getting up and following Elza. She saw the group and tried to see what was on the table, though they didn't have what ever it was they were talking about out yet.
((Sorry everyone. I’m taking some new medication and its making it really hard to write anything, or at least anything decent. sad If my posts are lacking, that’s why))
Thai nodded at Viper’s request, taking a seat on the stool and repeating their names to be sure he got them right. “Viper and Runk, pleased to make your acquaintance. My name's Thai” he smiled. “And I’m sure you will be worthy contestants on our team”. Ogres and orcs were known for their strength and endurance, after all.
Listening to Viper’s whispered warning, he nodded subtly to show he had heard and whispered back. “Understood. Let’s try not to lose then, hey? It's a nice bit of loot if we win”.
Thai waved back to the bartender happily “Will keep it in mind. Though this place could use a few more windows” It was rather gloomy in here, and a bit stuffy. He chuckled at the barkeep's words. Poor guy must be worrying about his tavern all the time with all the rough and rowdy crowds that came in here.
He looked around at hearing a woman's voice and smiled, moving a little aside to make room for Gwen the moon elf. "Thanks, that sounds great! Enchanted weapons are my favourite!" Not that Thai had any weapons (he had a lute and a flute and some good offensive songs). He just loved the idea and wanted to see Gwen's magic again. Magic was fun! It was pretty, and sparkly and could do all sorts of neat things!
Looking up at another woman's voice, Thai saw Elza and looked at her thoughtfully. He was trying to place how she looked so familiar. She looked similar to the people of the jungle region where he'd come from, but he'd never seen her before. She must have been from a different tribe in that area.
While Thai stared at her, slack jawed, the man who was putting up his friends' map as a prize spoke up instead.
"Welcome, welcome lass, we're just about ta start. Just a wee wager to mix things up a bit 'ere. Forming teams at the moment. One team wins, and they'll get a map and some coin, the other team wins and we get every last one of your coins to fund our research!" the man explained, slamming his fist on the table with a hearty laugh as his companions on his team chattered and cheered.
"Let's start already!" He wanted to begin before his friends could realise what he was doing. Little did he know they were under the effects of Gwenhwyfar's spell.

Walking closer to the table he stood next to Gwen. "Hmmm....tell you what, I'll carve a rune for someone. I'll play along." he spoke with a kind smile. As he watched others come up to them. Scrillo watched the monkey man with curiosity mostly.
There was going to be a contest with a map and some gold. Team? Looking around the small table did that mean that The pregnant Orc, Moon Elf, Jungle woman, himself, and Mori were all going to be in a group against theirs? Though when the man spoke of research he crossed his arms.
He was going to question the man about it, but honestly, if it was evil then it would surface eventually. These people before him, making the bet, seemed to be con artists. Still he would play along.
"Your game of choice and rules my good sir?" Viper asks, scooting her chair as close to the table as her belly would allow. Looking around at the motley crew assembled against the man and his friends, Viper smiled to herself. With so many people crowded around the table (not to mention a few with view blocking bellies like her own), plying her more frowned upon abilities and tricks would be a piece of cake if things started to go sour.

((OOC: I hope this is ok. If not, I will edit
EDITING POST - to a different game. Will post it here when fixed))
"All right, rune carving! Sounds good to me" Thai was starting to feel more enthusiasm for the whole thing now, especially when the man with mint green eyes offered rune carving into the mix. Thai didn't know much about it but runes looked kind of neat and he'd like to see what they could do. Although, he started to think that things were tipped too far in favour of the winning team now. For him, that wasn't exciting enough.
He looked at the man who’d been talking about his friends' map and grinned. "I have another idea. What say the losers also have to go explore that creepy old house up on the hill? I saw it when I came to this town and it looks pretty abandoned. It's a dare!". He tossed out, tail waving playfully. Exploring creepy old mansions could make for some good tales to tell should the explorers make it out alive and as a bard, he was always on the lookout for good stories to add to his collection. ***
“Fair enough, but that’s the last condition. I won’t accept any more” the man grunted towards Thai’s addition with a nod. He looked towards Viper when she spoke up. "Game of choice... Blackjack. Basic rules." the man states. He seemed eager to begin the game, before his comrades found out what he was up to.
