Once she could feel the ground and walk along it... an evil thought crept into her mind. She suddenly froze a few steps in then yoinked her head under with a quick yelp, "He-" sploosh.

"Rin?!" Melvin shot up from where he had been moving in the water, legs bent to appear as if he wasn't standing up straight, and looked where Rin had fallen. Panic spiking, he summoned his weapon. It was more a instantly thought than thinking it was possible, but she was suddenly in his hand in one second and..
...then slipped out of his hand and dropped into the water. Swearing, he reached into the water for Rin where he last saw her drop.

She popped right back up into his grip as soon as he got there. Perfectly fine and unscathed. She eyed him with surprise. She hadn't expected such a speedy response. So much for being funny. He just looked scared as s**t.

When she popped up all fine and dandy, he just stared at her before shoving her over. "You asshat!"
He then leaned down to search in the water for his gun. Saliva was screaming in his head.

Rin rolled back in the water flailing and kicking trying to get right side up again.

Melvin searched on the ocean floor before picking up his gun, shaking the water out of Saliva's maw as he headed to the shore. "I thought you were grabbed by something." He huffed at her when Rin popped back up.

Rin righted herself after a bit of a struggle then waded slowly after him, "I didn't think you'd react like that."

He walked up to the beach, shaking Saliva a moment before desummoning her and taking his towel. "I don't know if this place doesn't have creatures. This whole island makes me tense." He complained, grumbling as he worked to dry his hair a moment. He'd probably go back in the water later, but hadn't decided yet. The whole reason he came out here was to relax, but he was finding all of this just as stressful.

Rin sheepisly followed after and toweled off herself. Slowly. Warily. Then looked at Melvin - more like stared at him awkwardly before after what felt like hours finally speaking, "I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to set you off like that. I thought you'd just... jump and I'd jump back up and we'd have a laugh together."

Melvin continued to towel off, looking down before looking back at her. "It's fine. I'm just ...there's just a lot of stuff going on. I'm more on edge than usual." He admitted.

"I'm fine. Probably just a lot of bullshit you here every trainee say anyways. Just gotta get used to it." He had been in a pod just months ago, but now he was fighting monsters, trying to get used to his talking gun, spending time in labs full of weird creatures, and doing duty in the infirmary where people were constantly coming in to remind him in screams and blood how bad things could get. He just...had to get used to it.

"Even so, sometimes talking makes it a bit better. Like... not keeping it in to fester and suffer alone yanno?" She smiled at him before chuckling softly. "Yeah, I'm dying for a break too. I want to like. Look for those movies you mentioned."

He didn't need or want to talk about it. His tactic was to go out here and swim by himself. Just...time and some peace was sure to sort things out. Melvin was sure of it.
He looked around for any driftwood but didn't see any they could sit on. Taking his towel, he set it down and sat on it, reaching over into his back and searching inside. "Unless someone has them on the island, we'll have to wait till portals to open before we get any movies. Even if someone had them on the island, I don't have anything left after Thanksgiving and runics to give them as payment." He was pretty much broke now, meaning he'd have to pay Candace later.
Taking out a ziplock bag, he pulled out some sandwiches cut in half, and handed Rin two. "Here."

Rin shook the towel out of her hair and smoothed it out onto the sand to sit. Where she gratefully took the offered sandwiches with a weary smile, "Thank you Melvin." She carefully turned a sandwich square around in her hands to face the crust towards herself, "You are a good friend by the way." Then she started to eat all of the crust off her sandwich.
