  Kadaj smiled and decided to keep sitting since as with most men, he was having ‘the morning symptoms’ that didn’t allow him to stand up without letting everything hand bare. Instead he yawned and rubbed his eyes, decided that he could talk with Chad for a little bit until breakfast was done. He had a lot to think about anyways what with what had happened last night.
“Well, okay then, I won’t get used to it.” Kadaj laughed and decided to slide out of his sleeping bag before sitting on it, slouching forward slightly and smelling the eggs. He couldn’t help but wonder where Chad had learned how to cook since he didn’t seem like the kind of guy who knew anything about cooking and making meals for others to eat. Sure, Kadaj didn’t know anything about it either, but there was still some things he knew about food that could make him a pretty useful cook if he wanted to be. Kadaj kind of just wanted to know where Chad’s head was at when it came to making meals. Kadaj wasn’t a big fan of being poisoned or anything like that. “Alright, let’s see… Why do I stare at you?” Kadaj could feel a cold sweat breaking out over him as he developed the nerve to tell the truth, but what would that mean? It’d just make things awkward between the two of them if he was honest. “Ah, it’s nothing, I don’t even realize I do it dude. I’ll try to catch myself next time.” Kadaj exhaled a heavy sigh and waited to see if that would clear things up.

Chad smiled and decided to stop prying about the question. There was probably something Kadaj didn’t want to say, but that was alright because they’re already established with each other that they both had secrets that they didn’t like discussing. “Alright then, that’s understandable, how about we eat the eggs now?” Chad used the now charred stick to get the eggs off of his small portable pan and placed them on a couple of small plates and handed one to Kadaj. “We won’t be able to eat until later tonight so you might want to eat this now before a wild Pokémon comes and steals it.” Chad laughed but was serious none-the-less. He knew how Pokémon could be rather vicious when they needed to be, or at least if it was a life or death situation.
Chad took his own plate and sat across from the fire on the opposite side of Kadaj and scarfed down his egg pretty fast. He was a grown man though, so he did tend to eat a lot. Sadly though it would have to wait until tonight when they reached the next destination.
Once he was done, Chad took the pan back to his bag as well as his plate. “I’m going to go put my tent away. Once you’re done you should do something with the sleeping bag. I’ll put out the fire though since I don’t trust you with that.” Chad teased Kadaj one last time before walking back over to his tent and putting his things away.

Kadaj took his plate happily and decided to go ahead and eat before it was all gone because by the way Chad was eating, Kadaj was pretty sure that if he didn’t look interested in the meal, Chad would ask for it or at least a bit of it. “Yeah this looks good…” Kadaj felt kind of troubled by the fact that he didn’t tell Chad why he had kept staring at him, but at this point it seemed like water under the bridge to Chad, which in all honesty seemed like a pretty good thing. “Alright then, I’ll get started on putting my things away once I’m done eating.” Kadaj waved goodbye to Chad who was now already done and making his way towards the tent.
With nothing to do except eat, Kadaj ate, although he did eat rather slowly compared to the way Chad had managed to eat his food. He was just so fast at everything he did, it was almost a bit tempting to get him into bed. No, that wouldn’t work because Chad was straight. ‘I probably sound like a broken record now, geesh.’ Kadaj rolled his eyes and ate intently. He was a hungry dude after all.
Once he was finished eating, he stood up and rolled up his sleeping bag. It seemed like his morning companion had left so he didn’t have anything to fear from the peeping eyes of Chad. The sleeping bag wasn’t too hard to take care of since it was rather small. After he put it away, he stood up and walked over to the edge of the forest and waited for Chad to finish up whatever he was doing.

Chad finished putting his tent away and then, once he was done, he walked over to the fire and picked up Kadaj’s plate before putting out the fire with some sand lying around. He didn’t like thinking that he could be leaving a potential fire going, so he thoroughly made sure the fire was out by practically burying the fire pit in sand. After he was finished, he wiped his hands on his pants and decided to go meet up with Kadaj who was waiting by the entrance of the forest, probably because there was no other place to wait that seemed appropriate.
Chad pulled out his GPS once he was next to Kadaj and looked at where they should probably be heading now. “Alright, we should go going this way for about one-hundred feet and then we’ll be able to get back on the road that leads to Vormund City. I wonder who’s there though.”
Chad walked through the forest, not making any noise as he thoroughly went over the GPS, making sure they were right on track.
It wasn’t until Chad reached the road that he let out a sigh of relief. “So far so good, now we just have to follow this road and it should lead us to where we want to go.” Chad hesitated for a moment before deciding something, “How about we have a battle before we reach town? It’d do us some good to have our Pokémon get some exercise.” Chad held up a Pokeball that contained his Nincada and waited for what Kadaj would have to say about it.

Kadaj nodded to Chad’s instructions about getting out of the forest. He didn’t like walking through the bushes, but he had a system for getting through the jungle, it was just to follow directly behind Chad and hope that he didn’t fall in some sort of sink hole. “Alright then, lead the way dude.” Kadaj followed closely behind as Chad walked through the forest. It didn’t take long until they were at the road, and as usual, they kept quiet the whole way until they were finally out of the forest. “Alright then, now which way do we go.” Kadaj was pretty athletic so that didn’t bother him at all going through the forest. At this point though, the forest was long behind him in terms of confusion. He didn’t get too worried about what was going on back there and just wanted to focus on the here and now.
“Okay, you really want to have a Pokémon battle dude? If we do man, let’s not overwork the Pokémon like we did last time.” Kadaj was secretly excited about finally getting another rematch, even though it had only been one day since their last battle, but still, the only way to get stronger is to train often, and since this road wasn’t really one for travelers, Kadaj took Chad up on his offer. “Alright then dude, you’re on.” Kadaj pulled a poke-ball from his pocket that contained his Poochyena and tossed it to the ground, “Alright little dude, I choose you!”
Poochyena emerged from the Poke-ball in a blur of red light.

Chad really did like the prospect of a battle with Kadaj once more, otherwise he wouldn’t have even brought it up. “Alright then, let’s do this!” Chad held out his Pokeball and then summoned forth his Nincada who looked at the Poochyena, eager to prove itself once again. “I hope you know we’re not going to hold back, right Nincada?” Nincada nodded with a chilling grin and then quickly got into a stance that was combat efficient. Chad was going to attack first which was a bit newer to him. “Alright then, I’ll go first! Nincada, use your Leech Life attack!”
Chad smiled as he called the command because he knew Poochyena was a dark-type Pokémon that was weak to attacks such as leech life that drained the enemy’s HP and replenished the user’s own.
Nincada began to scurry across the ground at a quick pace, eager to sink its fangs into the, if he could recall, reckless Poochyena. The last time they had fought, they were only level one, but now that they were a lot stronger, this battle was definitely going to be a lot more interesting because they both had different moves they could use to fight each other with.

Kadaj looked at the two Pokémon sizing each other up, and as usual Poochyena didn’t seem like it really cared about fighting at this point. That made Kadaj kind of worried about whether or not the Pokémon was okay. He just hoped that Poochyena hadn’t broken something inside of its head that just made it not care about anything that was going anymore.
As the Nincada charged towards Poochyena, Kadaj gave some commands for the Poochyena to follow. “Dodge it, and then once you do, use howl little dude!” The Poochyena didn’t nod, but it perked its ears as a way of letting Kadaj know it had heard the orders.
Almost a split second before the Nincada was to bite, Poochyena easily jumped out of the way and began to howl, raising its own moral but in reality, it increased its own attack. “Alright! Now, use your tackle attack before it can harden!” Since Poochyena was a lot faster now, it darted off in a blur towards the Nincada who it expected to harden once again like it had done last time in their last fight.
Kadaj watched nervously, afraid for the fact that Poochyena might lose this fight again and it already still seemed crushed about being defeated last time.

Chad almost instinctively was about to yell Harden, but when Kadaj mentioned that he was on to that plan, Chad was forced to think again. He knew that his Nincada knew four moves, so it was time to use move number four. “Now Nincada, use your Sand Attack!” Nincada nodded and quickly began scratching at the dirt, causing a large sphere of sand to blur the vision of the Poochyena.
However, Poochyena managed to get lucky and give Nincada a powerful blow to the side, causing the Nincada to roll over several time before staggering back to its feet and refocusing on the Poochyena with a more confident demeanor now. It didn’t want to show that the attack really hurt, but it was definitely more noticeable than it was when they had fought the first time.
Chad looked at his Nincada for a moment and thought about what he should have it do. “Use your harden skill!” Nincada nodded and quickly began shielding itself in another shell it was forming. Once done, Chad gave it another command to perform. “Alright, now use your leech life again!” Nincada began to scurry across the ground as quickly as it could, readying its fangs for another attempt at plunging them into the Poochyena so that it could suck the life right out of him.

Kadaj shook his head and quickly withdrew his Poochyena. He didn’t feel right battling right now. It was like they were taking a gamble on whether or not they would be able to get to the next town without having to worry about their Pokémon getting injured and the gamble of if they would run into an aggressive wild Pokémon or not. Kadaj swallowed hard, mentally preparing to explain this to Chad, who he was sure would understand if he tried his best to explain the situation. “We should stop this dude. What if we run into a wild Pokémon or something up the road? We need our team to be able bodied just in case that stuff was going down.” Kadaj sighed and decided to keep walking.
He was already embarrassed enough about giving in on the battle, the last thing he wanted was to see Chad’s concerned face or something like that. Truthfully he didn’t think Chad would be all too concerned about the prospect of just ending the battle now. In reality, Chad would’ve probably won if it came down to it because of the type advantage, then there was Smeargle who was rather big compared to Torchic. If didn’t matter now though, it was over.

That was fair enough, or at least so Chad thought anyways. He could understand why Kadaj didn’t want to fight now that he explained it, and quite frankly, Chad was a little embarrassed that he didn’t think of it sooner. “Oh you’re right Kadaj. Return Nincada.” Nincada nodded and was absorbed back into its Pokeball. Once it was safely inside, Chad decided to jog a little to catch up to Kadaj who was walking rather quickly down the road, what was his problem?
“Wait up Kadaj, where’s the fire? Why are you trying to get away from here, was it something I said? Sorry, I’ll hold back if you want me to in the next battle. I didn’t know it bothered you so much.” Chad placed his arm around Kadaj’s shoulder and walked down the road, laughing aloud as he did so. “Your Poochyena got a pretty good hit in on Nincada you know. I think you might’ve had that if you kept on going!” Chad pulled in Kadaj and started giving him a nuggy by pulling his head under Chad’s arm and Chad using his other arm to grind his knuckles in on the top of Kadaj’s head. He never saw it as something harmful, just messing around with Kadaj.

Kadaj shoved Chad, or at least tried to as he gave his head such an ache. All the while though, Kadaj couldn’t help but groan in resentment for the fact that he was probably now and forever in the friend zone with Chad, but it’s not like he had a shot anyways. “Alright, alright, cut it out dude!” Eventually Kadaj managed to get his head out from between Chad’s large arms, but it didn’t help that Chad was a lot stronger than Kadaj. “Geesh, no it has nothing to do with losing. I just don’t want to battle right now, not until I can figure out what’s wrong with the little dude. He just seems like, I don’t know, he lost his will to keep on going, that he’s just doing what I say now and doesn’t care about doing right or wrong.” Kadaj shrugged and kept quiet after that. He was almost half-expecting Chad to give him some words of wisdom but then, once he thought about it, he realized that Chad probably wasn’t the best person to go to for advice. “It’s hard to explain dude, I’m not even going to try.” Kadaj folded his arms and just kept walking, not wanting to talk at the moment since he was upset about his Pokémon for obvious reasons.

Chad silently looked at Kadaj who was clearly irritated and Chad felt like it had something to do with him. “I-I’m sorry if I made you mad, seriously. I kind of get a bit carefree and stop thinking about others.” Chad looked to the side into the shrubbery lining the road and began to blush. He didn’t want Kadaj to see because it could easily be mistaken for something other than simpler swallowing pride and apologizing. Chad seemed to lighten up though whenever he realized that it didn’t have anything to do with him, and that it was just Kadaj’s Pokémon that was troubling him so much. “Oh, well if Pokémon are your problems, then maybe we could try and have our own little group therapy session with Poochyena. I might not be good at trying to get him to come out of his shell, but I think Nincada could do it since it seems to be the one that put him in there in the first place.”
Chad was all for helping Poochyena since after all, they were a team now. What would be more exciting that helping Kadaj get his Pokémon back on its feet and in tip top form? “Come on Kadaj, let me try and help.”

Kadaj shook his head, trying to reassure Chad that it wasn’t his fault at all. “No, you’re not doing anything wrong, just the wrong time man.” Kadaj looked around, trying to find a small field right next to the road so that he could let out his Poochyena and see if Nincada could fix whatever problem Poochyena seemed to be having. “That’s be awesome if Nincada could do that. I don’t think Pepper or Sketch could since they don’t have that kind of bond like the other two have!” Kadaj smiled and decided to let go of his gloomy nature for the time being, at least until everything was squared away and he knew what his Pokémon would be able to handle, because right now Kadaj was pretty sure that he was a bad trainer, or at least he felt that way since his Poochyena seemed to be acting so miserable. “Here’s a place!”
Kadaj walked up to an open field and sat down in the grass before pulling a Poke-ball from his pocket and releasing his Poochyena, who almost immediately on cue yawned and sat down on the grass and looked around. It clearly wasn’t thrilled about being outside of its Poke-ball like all the other Pokémon seemed to be whenever they were travelling with their trainer.

Chad was a bit down now. It was funny how if Kadaj was sad, Chad felt his mood going down as well. ‘He doesn’t even know how much he affects me.’ Chad blushed once more, realizing that this was the first time he’d ever met someone who could alter his mood by changing their own mood. Perhaps it was because they had been so close this past day, that Chad was beginning to see how Kadaj was really just a kid, or at least, in his eyes.
When Kadaj found a small field to sit in, Chad followed a short ways behind. After he was at the field with Kadaj, Chad sent out his Nincada who stood by awaiting orders, “You should go try and cheer up Poochyena.” Nincada nodded and took off to go attend to the Poochyena.
Chad walked over to Kadaj and sat right next to him in the grass. He was only about half of a foot away and realized this right away. “So, you know, I didn’t forget about last night when Dead Master said something about dirty thoughts. I still want to know what those are.” Chad smiled, trying to lighten the mood in his own way, and if that meant flirting, so be it. He could always experiment and see where these things got him.

Kadaj watched as the Nincada scurried over to Poochyena who only looked at it with slight remorse. It was still bitter about losing that battle from yesterday, but at the same time, Kadaj couldn’t exactly tell the Poochyena to move on since he still hadn’t either. It was definitely going to be a problem moving forward, unless of course Kadaj could learn to help Poochyena cope with its saddened state.
As he thought about how he could do that, he heard Chad sitting next to him. The gloomy state hanging over Kadaj made him feel like anything he said to Chad wouldn’t matter at all, since mainly Chad was way too non-caring about anything that happened to actually hold whatever Kadaj said against him. “Well, okay you really want to know then? I’ll tell you…” Kadaj swallowed hard. He knew the consequences of tell Chad this and he fought every urge to admit it, but the clear-conscious that Kadaj wanted seemed to overpower his will to deny, “I think- I’m uh…” Kadaj closed his eyes and turned his head away from Chad so that he could face the grass while he said this instead of imagining Chad’s reaction. “Chad dude, I think, no, I know I’m gay.” Kadaj cringed and waited for his tongue lashing he was about to get.
