When Sessrumnir asked for a show of hands for all that knew how to not toss around insults, Mont Blonc's hand rose into the air, only to be awkwardly drawn back down when no one else did the same. Then once again he felt silly. Oh. So that was a rhetorical question..... He hit his lip and slumped in his chair, as if to make his scrawny 6' frame invisible.

The explanation of similes and metaphors got an, "ah, thanks.." though.

The hostility going about the room made Mont Blonc uncomfortable. He hated rudeness in general, and lack of consideration for others. He hated fighting and squabbles of any kind. He wanted one big Kumbayah. And here he'd been dragged in to some war? Great. Just great.

"Why don't we take stock of what we know if nothing else." Annwn said raising his voice to try and clear the hostility. He cast a glance at Babylon and Camelot as he spoke for a moment. "It's cleared enough that some of us." He said waving a hand at them. "Know at least a few things that others, don't yet." He cast a glance at Shalott. "How do we know it's not our ancestors speaking through us, if information was too easy to come by I'd honestly be as suspicious of it as if it had come from the Negaverse itself. “There is no point in ‘piss n’ vinegar’ when we’re all in the same predicament. All it does is make us seem foolish when we let the rage take control and I don’t believe any of us are foolish, we’re... reborn almost. There aren’t many of us in the city that I can tell, not like senshi and the others. I can say from personal experience there’s a bloody log of confusion that comes of situations like this.”
He tried to keep his brogue even but there were points where it grew heavier all the same till he paused to take a breath.

“We know we can visit our wonders, we know theirs a great fight in the city with men and monsters all the same. I doubt we’re called Knights without a reason either; Knights served a Lord, a King, a royal… so if nothing else we know it’s likely we served in the past. So perhaps it’s finding out whom we serve, and how we’re to do that? What’s our code? Are we chivalrous or Rogue? Maybe we’re to defend our wonders, I haven’t been to mine I admit… bit superstitious of me but I have a we queen-cat who’s telling me to get on that I don’t have to tell you.”

“Besides that, I think ultimately, none of us want ‘war’, In my mind I think it’d be a bit daft to enjoy it, I dun think that’s the question. But how to achieve peace, how to end the war? I don’t think any war will ever be ended just trying to counter strikes that your enemy makes, sometimes yeh have to strike first, but maybe that’s part of our purpose here. Maybe that’s a choice to each of us.”

He shrugged and looked around. “How’s that for ideas, anyone else? What else do we know, what else can we try and put together between the lot of us?”

"How do you know we all have ancestors? What if some of us are... reborn, like the senshi?" Valhalla asked Annwn, glancing up from where he was still rubbing his temples from earlier. Not that he knew he or any of the others were reincarnated, but for the sake of keeping everyone from setting on certain things as fact... Actually, he knew his argument was pretty weak, but... it was still a thought.

Although, now that a handful of people were also defending Babylon, Valhalla was wondering if he should even bother voicing his opinion.

Everyone there was so opinionated, so set on being heard that they were all drowning each other out. Maybe it would be better if someone sat back to just... listen.

Valhalla glanced over at Aeolia with a weak smile for his attempt at democracy, but with a group like theirs... it was no wonder the senshi could never get things done... He'd only hoped that they, as knights, could be a little more supportive of each other.

"You're speaking historically, of course," he also pointed out, but was wary of causing even more hostilities, so he kept his voice as evenly tempered as he could manage. "I don't think we need to have the same reasons for being knights as we did in the past, however that worked out... And what do you mean 'what's our code'? Our code is whatever we want it to be. Why would it have to stem from anything but our own opinions?" He was perfectly fine working with both Camelot with his Knights of Destiny group that a few of them there were already apart of, as well as his place as a Jovian with Babylon, despite how much the guy drove him crazy sometimes.

"A while back, I got some cellphones and headsets for us knights to keep in contact with. I think Camelot still has a few where we meet up. The idea was to give us a way to communicate with each other, since the senshi all have cellphones of their own to call each other," he paused, wondering if he should say anything about it since he hadn't exactly gone to get his, but maybe it would at least open the floor for others to share.

"My friend, Naica, a page of Cosmos, showed me a signet ring he'd found at his wonder. He wrote me a note, and then stamped it with the ring, and it appeared in front of me. I... I'd imagine that some here already have a ring of their own," he said, glancing towards Babylon as he did so. "Once we do get a chance to go to our Wonders, we should keep an eye out for them... They'll probably come in handy."

"Code of the Knights, indeed." pipes up Aeolia. "And worthy questions to ask. What is it? Do we need it?"

"In the past... a true Knight would have said yes," Bifröst offers. "For a true Knight, and his true power, were inseperable from these traditions, these allegiances and sacred oaths."

"But what of the new Knights?" asks Valhalla. "Are they meant to be the same? Some of us say yes, others no, still others undecided."

"Perhaps these last few are the wisest," Caelian suggests with a warm smile.

"Perhaps," ponders Annwn, speaking up a second time. "But a question from before bears repeating. So look around you, and consider..."

"Are you willing to rebuild this place from the blueprints of the past?" asks Babylon.

"Or build anew on this foundation, using ideas of the present?" adds Shallott.

"Or perhaps a little of both," suggests Pharos, "to also give it room for the future?"

The atmosphere of the room has changed from a mysteriously stern one to a waiting one, and what comes next is crystal clear without needing any more channeled or spoken words: the future of the Knights is potentially -- and in no small part -- in your hands. All you need to do to grasp it is pledge your desire to take on the responsibility.

What do you do?

And there went to possessing spirits or whatever they were again. It never didn't startle him, but he was less freaked out by it now. In fact, he was thankful for their guidance, or else they'd never stop fighting, most likely.

What were the ideas of the past? What were the ideas of the present? Mont Blonc didn't know. What he did know, was that he wanted a future. Not to die in some war he'd been dragged in to unknowingly. He was curious about the past, but he knew he needed to know what was happening here and now if he was to be any help.

So his decision was clear. He didn't like to be the first to speak up, but...

"I think we really do need both.." Mont Blonc said, looking around the table. "To-to learn from the past and alter it to fit the present? I dunno...I just really like the idea of having a future, you guys." A nervous laugh followed.

But indeed, Mont Blonc wanted to make it through this war.

One moment he was speaking words he had no idea he was saying, the next he was suddenly in the midst of what seemed to be a heated debate of sorts. Celsus, feeling slightly dazed for some odd reason, frowned a bit, glancing over at Peklo and idly tugging on a strand of his red hair. A look up at Bifröst, amused as ever by her confidence to say whatever it was that she was thinking at the time.

"Okay, okay, everybody needs to just calm down," said Celsus lightly, waving a hand. "It's not going to do us any good to point fingers, accuse, or get on each other's nerves," he added, with a cheerful grin, leaning back and linking his fingers behind his head.

The signet ring discussion, however, drew his attention, and Celsus' gaze flickered curiously across the face of Valhalla.

"I have one too," he said mildly. "A signet ring, that is. I've used it only once, with the same sort of idea that your friend did, and it's become quite an interesting little object."

But more voices were starting to speak, more sounds beginning to fill the room, and Celsus' eyes were drawn to the faces of those that were speaking. It was very strange - very odd to hear these voices, but at the same time he could not help but feel a certain sense of...

...well, he wasn't even sure what he felt, but with one look at the first knight who'd spoken, combined with his own feelings, and Celsus already knew his answer.

"I'm certainly ready to do that as well," he said evenly, and smiled, dropping his hands and crossing one leg casually over the other, tugging on a strand of his hair again. Her jerked a thumb towards Mont Blanc, grinning.

"I like what this guy said. Learn from the past to fit the present and alter the future. After all, we make our own paths."

Most of what was being said was going over Oliver's head. Wonders? Rings? He had powered up only once and that was a scant two weeks ago. He didn't feel quite informed enough to make these decisions but it seemed it was coming down to just that.

He spoke up for the first time since his introduction. "I think the optimal plan has the best of both worlds, a mix of the past and the present." Focusing on just the past would be archaic, but he had a feeling that completely tossing aside those ideals would be incredibly disrespectful and not a very good idea.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 06, 2012 11:08 am

Camelot listened to the arguing, the conversation, finding merit in all the ideas being thrown in. It was hardly surprising that no one knew how to respond to this, and even less so that it caused disagreements.

He sighed softly and stood again, his hand resting lightly on Shalott's arm, but it didn't look like he noticed the affectionate action.

"I think you're right," he said, looking at Oliver. He then glanced around the table and smiled softly. It was strange, seeing all these mostly young people, struggling to find something to believe in, to fight in a way that suited them. They were all brave in their own ways, even if they weren't aware of it. They were all knights, that much was very apparent, and if he took anything away from this impromptu meeting, it was that.

These were people the world could put their trust in, these were people who would find peace. He was proud of them, he realized. It burned in him like his own passion for this title of Knight that someone else, something beyond him, had decided him worthy of. Or perhaps it was genetic, or something close, that his soul was tied to the past of another's. Either way, he took to it like a fish to water and found his passions bent on this service. That feeling of duty and love, of devotion and loyalty, was not just to the job he gave himself, the service he felt he had to fulfill. It was to these people.

His fellow knights.

It didn't matter if they agreed or even liked each other, he considered. He could see that here. He realized he was staring and missing some of the conversation, and he shook his head to snap himself out of his daze once more.

"I also agree that arguing isn't going to help anyone. For us to work together we do not have to be the same. We are all knights. We would not be here if this power hadn't awakened inside us. Just like our wonders calling to us, our power came when we were ready. Something decided that for us, some spark or whatever it was. That same... something is calling to us now. Summoning us here. This place... this is ours. Our past, maybe, tied to our Wonders, or our present, the lives we're forging and meant to continue. In the end, we are all fighting for the same goal. This place... it will help us do that."

He nodded his head at those that had spoken before him, From Mont Blanc to Celsus, Shalott and Babylon, Valhalla, Annwn, Bifrost, as well as those whose names he was less familiar with but working hard to learn.

"We need there to be some level of peace between us first, before we can hope to be effective in the war between Chaos and Order. And before that, there needs to be understanding between us. Information. It's very clear that one of the most damaging issues here is the simple lack of knowledge, the stark differences in our experiences and what we've learned. What we think others should know, and what the reality is."

He took a breath, trying to keep himself calm even as that fire that had burned to life as he looked at them all continued to roil and sizzle inside him. His eyes were burning with it.

"I think this place can help us even those gaps. If we can come here again, if we can fix it up, we can make it what we need it to be now, not what it was before. We can draw on the past and give hope to the future, as was already suggested, and help each other so we're all fighting on the same... page."

He frowned at the almost pun, then shook his head.

"I don't know. This place feels like an opportunity for us all. It's up to us to take the advice that's being given to us, spoken through us, and run with it. We picked up our items, some of us have taken our signets. I think this is the next step. I'm willing to do whatever I have to, and I'll help anyone that needs it."

He shook his head, not sharing the rest of his thoughts. But the real reason he had ever wanted to fight was lingering in his head. They were all so young, some of them scared, some of them not. Whatever they did, however they fought or reacted, they were meant to live their lives. They needed the chance to do that, every chance they could get. The idea that any of them might be lost in a war was crushing, and Camelot believed in a future without that need. If this place could help them in any way, help them to learn or help them to be safe, he would invest a part of himself into it to restore it if he had to.

Babylon would never openly admit that he'd fallen into a bit of a daze from all of Camelot's pontificating, but he did have to shake himself a bit after the older man finally finished talking. It must have been quite a rousing speech to go on that long - not that Babylon knew, as he'd only paid attention to about half of it.

"The rings are pretty cool, yeah," he nodded in agreement with Celsus. "Did you know you can send letters to senshi with them, too? I mean, they can't write back, but it's something." Struggling to find his point, Babylon wheeled the topic back around. "You should all go to your wonders and look around for yours. They're super-useful."

That said, he smiled warmly at the Chronos contingent. "With risk of sounding totally schizophrenic," Babylon explained, although it wasn't like he had much control over what had come out of his mouth a few minutes ago, "I agree with Pharos. It would be best if we can make some happy medium between past and future. It's not like there's nothing we stand to learn from the knights before us - as the saying goes, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."

He was pretty sure that he'd managed to sound intelligent.

"So, I mean, it seems like we're all leaning in that direction, yeah?" he added brightly.

Sessrumnir offered a grin of encouragement to Mont Blonc when he raised his hand, only to quickly lower it. He also snorted lightly in appreciation towards Ryugu-jo's calmed response to his suggestion. "I like these kids," he almost laughed, jabbing a thumb towards the two. They offered their opinions, asked some questions, but listened to others rather than jumping around like they were little badasses. Not that he thought anyone in particular was jumping around, but in a room with conflicting personalities, it wasn't surprising to have people talking over each other.

Any more of it though, and he would try to institute the hand raising rule that he only reserved for his more rowdy classes.

They were all adults (or almost adults), so they could at least try to behave like ones... Not that all adults acted like adults (and not that he was on his best behavior all the time), but it was the thought that mattered.

As for what he thought about peace and war... Well, he'd thought he'd actually be able to enjoy a civilian life for a while, but he didn't mind the occasional night of vigilante shenanigans after knocking back a beer or two. Of course he wanted peace, but he doubted it would come so easily. And even though he had made his decision to help out wherever he could, he didn't voice it for others to hear and agree with or potentially ignore and refute.

——————————————————————

Valhalla kept his thoughts to himself as the others spoke, feeling as though he'd already said what he thought about peace and the past and present and future. Why bother repeating it?

"Okay, so we decided," he finally said out loud after a few had spoken their shared opinions. Valhalla mockingly lifted his hands to the open sky above as he glanced up at the clouds. "What now, magical room?" He rolled his eyes lightly, although he felt rather uncomfortable about voices speaking through him. He felt like they were being too secretive in their words, whoever they were, and wanted to separate himself from what had been said through him.

He believed in equality... New knights, old knights, new senshi, old senshi... civilians even... they all offered something important. They could have just awoken, but they were just as important as those who'd been around longer. And he hoped he would never forget that or take anyone for granted that way.

The squire of Jupiter shifted uncomfortably in his seat, refusing to look up at anyone as he lifted a hand to place over his heart. It was a silly little gesture, but he felt as though he needed to do it... And it had nothing to do with protecting his starseed or anything like that... Instead, he pledged silently to himself to do whatever he could to help whoever he could in order to bring about peace.

Pharos was happy when the small, but heated debated stopped and it seemed it was time for them to speak without really knowing it again. It was odd especially when she found she was one of the ones doing the talking, but she found she wholeheartedly agreed with the words she spoke and it seemed so were the others.

She grinned at Babylon, "that's what I was going to say," she laughed lightly, "sometimes you just don't want history to repeat itself."

She nodded when he asked if they were all agreed, speaking for herself of course although it might seem otherwise.

She looked to Vahalla with a grin, it was quite comical to hear one speak to a room, like literally, even if it was all to likely that he would receive an answer.

She felt an eerie sense of calm when she’d spoken and it remained when the voice left her. Shalott thought long and hard about what she'd been made to say and what the others after her said as well. It probably wasn't a coincidence that she'd been the one to voice consideration of the present as that was foremost in her mind. She listened to everyone and mulled it over a while, taking her time and trying not to say something out of turn.

It’s no more or less what anyone else has said.” She began. “While I think the past is important because it tells us what we’ve started from there needs to be consideration for the present.

The challenge from whatever it was sparking them to speech was clear – decide their path. She had always meant to take her place and try and be a source of help for her fellow knights once she knew more and was more comfortable in her knowledge. The Knights of Destiny were supposed to be a centralized group, she thought, something to bring the knights together and have a sense of solidarity about them. While the senshi meant well no one seemed terribly organized. It was in Shalott to nurture and teach as she was both a mother and teacher.

Children, and some of these here were still children in her eyes or near enough, need guidance. There were also children in the fight as well, actual children. And children on the other side a little more or less her daughter’s age. It made her sick to think about sometimes but she knew that’s why the power called older people like she and Camelot. They had experience the others did not and a will to guide in their own way. She was not always good about balancing the childish impetuousness in herself but she was usually good at being there for those that needed it.

She glanced at Babylon directly when she spoke next. “I think our ancestors can be a great resource. But the fact is that times have and always will change. If we just focus on the past we will lose sight of the present and that makes the future slip through our hands. And at the same time if we lose our roots we are no better off, too.

It was a tricky balancing act.

It feels like we haven’t come together. None of us, really. This is the first time I’m meeting a lot of you. A few of us know about each other and may even know the identities we have in our day to day lives. But we don’t work as a unit. We don’t have the same understandings and we don’t lean on each other’s individual strengths. Any group has to understand and respect what people can bring to the table.

She looked to Camelot “Like wisdom.

And Babylon. “And respect of the past.

There were things to respect and admire in each and every one sitting around the table but how would they know if no one took the time to find out about them? That was their problem.

We need to meet and learn each other, fight at a unit. As much as I want it to this war won’t end. Not until something drastic happens. Protecting the innocent is my main goal but I have others – to guide and to teach. It’s no mistake that Camelot and I were called later in life and like the ancestors we have something to give as well, along with each and every one of you. I want to see us bond as a unit. I want to learn more about you. More than just your names in passing.

This was her addition to the discussion. It was something she felt so strongly about! They needed to be together, perhaps not as an army but certainly as a fluid group, able to see and understand the differences each of them possess.

"As Abraham Lincoln said, and I'm paraphrasing, if we do not come together we are destined to fall apart. They cannot divide us if we stand as one."

That was her nod to the past. Even those that were not involved in this war has something to teach them. The past was the past whether it was told to them through an ancestor or through the triumphs and follies of history. It was all the same.

"Actually," said Babylon, unable to resist making the correction, "That was Thomas Paine. If we do not hang together, we shall certainly hang separately. Right country, wrong war, and nearly a century earlier." An interest in politics was certainly paying off. He understood and agreed with the sentiment, however.

"It really does seem that we're in agreement for the most part," he repeated, glancing around self-consciously. "We should use the past as a foundation for moving forward."

Although he wasn't terribly sure how to do that. Hopefully someone else would have a brighter idea, since he was basically grabbing at smoke trying to come up with anything beyond being flabbergasted hat people hadn't been to their wonders. "So... Anyone have any bright ideas?"
PostPosted: Sat Mar 10, 2012 4:58 pm

"Actually, Babylon, I was paraphrasing from Abraham Lincoln's House Divided speech. Please refrain from correcting people if you don't know what you're talking about."

She sighed. Apparently everything she'd just said managed to wash over her fellow knight's head. Did he think he was clever trying to be as know it all as possible with everyone in the room? It only made her want to listen to him less. It seemed ironic that he was self conscious now when he'd already made an a** of himself. Between ignoring Camelot while he was only trying to help and this she'd probably punch him in the face under regular circumstances.

It was a big lesson in trying to forgo differences, that was for sure.

Celsus waved a hand.

"Okay, okay, no need to get technical about the small details," he said lightly, reclining back in his chair and linking his fingers behind his head, an easy smile on his face. "Seeing as how I'm not American, I have no idea where any of that comes from anyway, but I think the basic sentiment of 'using the past as a foundation for moving forward' is the main point, regardless of who said it."

With a shrug, he added, eyes twinkling "And I thought we all agreed to just respect each other."

Following Valhalla's example, Celsus turned his gaze skyward, craning his head upwards to stare into the dark sky above.

Well? he thought, relaxing into his seat. I've pledged myself to this cause - whatever it is. Now what?
