Keira stopped abruptly as she heard John. She stood up amd finally met his gaze as her heart pounded. She honestly didn't want him to leave but she knew he must. Keira was suprised he stopped in the middle. Keira didn't say anything as she closed the distance between them. Keira did something she thought she will never do again. She wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into a needful kissed as she didn't want to let him gi. "I love you John and you.didn't frighten me, you frighten me as I fear you will never come back to me. As much as I wish you didn't go, I know you must." She kissed him again.

John trembled a little as they kissed. He could never quite get used to that. He took a deep breath and pulled away, stroking her face gently with his thumb. "I will always come back. It may not be in one piece, but..." He grimaced. "I have to leave now. Be safe?" He turned from her, feeling as if he were leaving a piece of himself behind in her arms... Half an hour later found him riding through the darkness in a light rain toward the western border. He was supposed to take an entire score of men with him, but he wanted Keira protected while he was away. Two hundred troops remained behind; only three soldiers rode with him. They quickly came upon the vampire encampment. They were nowhere to be found. On their nightly raid, I suppose. A cry from the trees made his heart stop. He wheeled his mount around a second too late. A man came flying at him from a tree, his boot colliding with John's face. He fell to the ground. Within minutes, several vampires were on him, tearing and slashing at every bit of him they could reach. He drew his sword and hacked his way through the bodies. One took the advantage and clamped a strong hand around his throat, lifting him a foot from the ground. John struggled. He heard a cry and the sound of hoofbeats from somewhere on his left and suddenly found himself falling, and falling, and falling into darkness. * * * The soldiers carried him into the manor and lay him down on the wet floor of the main hall. "We need a healer in here!" "Carefully! Try not to move him!" They were suddenly aware of someone standing at the end of a corridor, staring at them with wide eys. They did their best to block the bloody and almost unrecognizable form of John from view as they clammored for the right words. A healer burst in from the side doors and examined John. He looked up at the people surrounding him after an eternity of silence. "His soul has left his body. We may lose him. Get my books." "Can you save him," a blonde soldier asked. "Maybe. But he won't ever be the same as he was..."

Once John left, Keira felt the worse as she fear he would never come back. She memorizrd every inch of him as he left and rode into the night. Keira begged countless times to the soliders who remained as three wasn't enough. She thought it was foolish as she then turned to the new bedchamber she stayed in as it was clean and fix. Sevetal eternity hours later Keira heard voices in panic and fear. She came down and look as she saw the person she careful. She was frozen as she cried. She was blocked from going to him as she managed to push through. Keira cried silently as she was afraid to lose him. She heard the healer say he will never be the same if he survived since his soul was gone. "Come back to me John." She whispeared hopeing he would. Keira felt someone pull her away.

John awoke a week later in his room. It was chilly and he was shaking with rage. Something had changed... He could feel it, but he wasn't quite sure what it was. He clenched and unclenched his fist experimentally. He felt stronger. He chuckled inwardly. Now he may be able to punch clean through two people at a time. He recalled the hands that had seized him around his throat as it throbbed in painful reminder. Anger filled him like a flood. He threw off the blankets, slipped on his clothes and shoes, and threw the door open with a loud bang. Several people in a cluster near his door jumped in surprise and a few cried out to him. He ignored them and stormed down the stairs into the sunlight. Only moments later, he had reached the stables. He seized the reigns of the nearest saddled horse and led her out toward the road. In a single leap, he was on his saddle. Someone grabbed his regins. A blonde soldier. Several more people poured from the manor and ran toward him. "You look different," the soldier said, his eyes wide. Suddenly he asked, "Where are you going?" "I have some matters to attend to," he replied coldly. He frowned slightly. Even his voice seemed a little off to him. The group had reached him now. He clenched his jaw and snarled in frustration.

Artemis wasn't aware of John's awakening as night and day she stood by his bed side. Of course she was tired of being defenseless so finally she asked a solider to help her train. As John left Keira was.in an area where she was fighting with a sword. Keira ducked under.a red head solider's sword as she lifted up her's as you can hear metal clashing with each other. Keira wanted to be strong as she was tired of being consumrd by fear and terror.

The colonel stood blocking his path. "You cannot simply take off into the wilderness." John stared him down. "I know where I'm going." The colonel shook his head. "John, you've just healed. At the very least, you shouldn't go alone." "I will go alone and kill anyone that follows!" He reared his mount, making the colonel back out of its path hastily. John rode for the treeline, never once looking back. Eventually, night fell and John halted in a clearing. He could feel them near, waking up. He jumped silently from the horse and sent him running back for the estate. He climbed a nearby pine and waited, making sure the wind blew his scent east, away from where he felt them. The earth began to come alive as one by one, vampires emerged from where they had cleverly burried themselves. He could see into the hole and guessed a depth of eight feet - just enough to keep horses and their riders from crushing them. He smirked as he listened. There were several minutes of racy jokes and casual conversation before anything interesting came up. "We should turn him." "The soldier? I thought he was dead?" "No, he survived. The other three with him took a chunk out of Val and rode off with the guy." "So... he should be a vampire then? Yeah. Makes perfect sense." "Of course not to you. You don't have a brain left." Laughter and swearing. "Just think about it... we turn their precious second in command... they can't bring themselves to attack him. And with his knowledge and his strength... there's no way we can lose." A murmer of agreement. "Let's get going. I'm feeling a little hungry." The voices below faded away. John smiled darkly and chuckled to himself. "Perfect..."

Henry stared after John, truely afraid for him - and for the first time, of him. "He's not John right now," he told the blonde soldier, Ray. "We have to go after him." Ray caught Henry's arm. "What if he attacks us, sir?" Henry stopped in his tracks and turned to face everyone. "Then we fight back. Try to knock him out. But if it comes to it, I'll understand if you need to kill him." He continued walking. "But, sir!"
"That's final!"
Henry knocked softly on Keira's door. He didn't know how to tell her, but he knew that he had to. It was his duty. He took a deep calming breath and entered, his boots tapping on the floor - in full military uniform. "Keira... John is... awake," he began awkwardly. She sat up, looking excited. He hesitated.

Henry struggled for several minutes to find the words. "He is different," he agreed. His headache was getting much worse. "Keira," he said gently, sitting on the edge of her bed. He shook his head, trying to put his thoughts in order. Finally he slumped, burying his face in his hands. Greif struck him and a lump grew painfully in his throat; he had to swallow several times to clear it.
"Kiera," he tried again, looking up at her. His face was miserable and worn, his eyes showing traces of exhaustion, "John is... John's gone. He's fled. He was very angry. We're to track him down. In fact I am just about to leave. Keira... I'm sorry, but..." For the first time since anyone could remember, tears welled up in his eyes and his calm, brave exterior was shattered. "We may have to kill him," he finally managed to say.

Keira's heart shattered as the pain from the Colonel face showed. It shattered to million of pieces once he said he had to kill him. Keira grabbed the Colonel and pulled him into a hug because she knew how much John ment to him. "I'm sorry I am so sorry. Its all my fault. You should have just killed me l. It would have been better." She stroke his hair as tears fell from her eyes.

Henry held Keira and comforted her, singing a soft lulluby. In a strange way, comforting her comforted him. "Keira," he said, pulling away and wiping her tears with his thumb, "When I return, I'd like to make you my daughter." Her eyes widened. "Don't say anything now. Just rest. We'll be back with John before you know it. He can't have gone far." He stood, stopping in the doorway, his figure outlined in the light of the hall. "John will be fine. Everything will be okay," he lied.
He turned on his heel and closed the door. Ray was waiting. "Get the men ready. Tell them to carry extra weapons - swords, daggers, everything. Anything they have that won't be weighing them down."
"Yes, sir!" The colonel composed himself. "Right," he said. Time to find my son!

Keira was shocked as he asked and she found it comforting but unworthy. She never had parents but it was unworthy as she was still the door to open the human world. She is suppose to die as she still refused to let John die for her. Keira sadly smile as she knew he was lying. John wasn't okay and she knew he would never will. Keira laid back down and fell in a restless sleep.

John heard a voice calling out to him. You've been foolish again, John. You've let them take part of your soul. John grew angry. "I didn't let them do anything," he snarled at the air. You cannot hide the truth from me, young one. I have it here. A vision of a polished and ornately carved wooden box inlaid in gold flashed before his eyes. I can stitch it back, if you like. "You think I want that? You think I need that?" He felt a sharp pain in his head as if an unseen hand was trying to knock sense into him. What about Keira? What about what she needs? John felt the color drain from his face as his true self forced to the surface. "Keira," he said softly. You love her."Yes," he agreed. This will hurt. John fell to the ground, unconcious, feeling thousands of needles plucking at gossamer strands deep within him, beneath his flesh. He heard horses approaching. He refused to care and allowed himself to slip away into sleep.

Keira finally fell asleep as she tossed and turned as it felt endless. She literally cried herself to sleep as she thought John was dead. She already knrw no hope but she clung on to that hope that he will return to normal. Keira was drained.
