Digging rapidly through the sand once more, the rat's failure at producing anything of value was beginning to wear thin on his nerves.
Of all the rumors he'd heard of this place, not a SINGLE one seemed to be worth it's breath. Just about ready to resign from the daunting task he had set out on, the rat nicked his nail on something, not quite site what it was, he leaned forward with earnest, determined to finally find something worthy of his time..

((I don't have a firekin yet so here's my random NPC animal! biggrin ))
Kuchimba was awaked by a disturbance all around her. The walls of her burrow were shaking minutely, as though all around her something was moving the earth. Maybe something big?
Kuchimba's hole was not deep, but she'd made it weeks ago in the hard-packed earth and so far it had held. But now whatever it was was causing the roof to crumble in places!
With a scowl and an angry squeak, the jerboa dashed to the mouth of her hole to see what all the fuss was about.
((OOH, does this mean I won the last familar? biggrin ))

Keahilani surfaced from his tunnel-hole, blinking in the sunlight. It was much cooler underground... But he was tired of that hole. It looked ready to-- As he stepped on a spot, it caved in. Keahilani pulled himself out, spitting out dirt angrily. How could he do such a foolish thing?!
Slithering out of the dirt, the snake looked back. "Well that was unexpected..." If he had shoulders, he would have shrugged. Instead, the baby snake slithered back to the lion cub and curled around his neck again.
Keahi glared at the snake a bit, then moved to another spot to dig. Soon dirt and mud were flying, and the cub dug down. Soon the hole was large, with a couple small tunnels splitting off of it. Amid the dirt, a pile of treasures grew in an enclave off the tunnel. Most were bones and teeth, made into various necklaces and bangles. Still he dug.

I do not own any Firekins or familiars here. (NPC snake familiar)
Fajra wandered what all the fuss was about, as she frowned in displeasure. She used her tongue to scent the air to see if danger was upon her home in the ground. Ah just some enthuastic cub digging around in the dirt. Rolling her eyes Fajra rolled her scaly body deeper into the dirt and fell asleep once more.

((Psst Tara, you can only RP non-existing SoA species that way. Since snake lines exist, you cannot RP one you don't own. x3))The lioness observed the religious trinket the red male had dug up, but she shrugged, looking puzzled by it. The oasis bed had gradually become busier, and Momo relocated a bit to the side as to not be in anyone's way.
"So why're you here?" Momo asked the male as she walked. It was a general question--hopefully not too presumptuous of her to ask.
Eyes set on a new spot to dig, the female scooped up a few paws full of mud. Eventually, her digging produced a find--another medium-sized old egg. Momo quirked her expression and refrained from touching the item, eager to change spots and try again. She was doing her best not to think about how the mud contained moisture, but her mind was slowly becoming consumed by the thought.

Maddy sneeezed, dirt flew up into her face as a breeze caught the loose bits and right into her face. She took a moment to rub her eyes and tripped backwards over her little snake friend, she laughed for a moment but had to move as a larger creature's paw thumped down on the earth nearby, the little female snake curled carefully around Maddy and together the found a spot that wasn't so crowded, digging furiously she tried to find more treasures but found nothing yet again.

Tossing the monkey-faced trinket aside, the male continued to follow the lioness to a new spot for no particular reason. Ears twisting at the sound of her question, Tanuri thought for a moment before he made his reply.
Why was he there? Boredom? To witness a social gathering of pride members to better assimilate himself among them? Lack of entertainment? Or was it actually that...the idea of digging for hidden items was...appealing to him?
"Uhhhhh," Tanuri breathed, blue gaze shifting to the distant cliffs. Still he paused, making himself look increasingly like a moron. "I guess to find treasure--you?" he grumbled, tail swishing. He dug into the ground to forget about how stupid he sounded. When his red paws pulled up an egg, his lips parted.
He turned his head to stare at the lioness.
"Maybe we should move again," he said slowly.

After a while, Keahi got bored with digging. He opted to take a break, crawling out of his hole to sit down. Blue eyes, like pools of water amid the charcoal and fire of his coat, scanned the area, before landing on... A mongoose. Slowly a red tongue slid out, licking his lips. Oh, that looked tasty right now... He got down, starting to stalk it.
Otherwise bored, the snake mindlessly looked around. And then he became aware of the cub MOVING. It was a slow and deliberate movement... He looked in the direction that his new-found partner was going and his tiny jaw dropped. "Wait a minute, that belongs to my sister!"

"Same as you," the lioness replied easily, though she knew there was more to her reason than that. The last thing she wanted to do was tell her new acquaintance about her most annoying trait. Besides, talking too much only made her more aware of her dried-out mouth.
The sight of yet another old egg was hilarious to the lioness, but she still held back. Momo finally allowed herself to laugh a bit, mind momentarily eased from its obsessive thoughts. She nodded her head with a toothy grin, happy to go along with the game of treasure hunting.
A new spot may reveal undiscovered items, so Momo made sure to select an area the two had not yet dug in. White paws digging down deep, the lioness's enthusiasm was sharply interrupted when a sting of pain cut through her front-right paw. Lurching backward, the lioness was almost too startled to continue digging. The unexpected experience made her think that her rough-and-tumble digging technique may not have been the wisest...
Putting on a veil of grit, the female dug through the sand and ripped out a curving, twisted item with a sharp side. It looked like a flattened rock.

[[ <33 Since all prizes have now been won, there's no need to roll in thread. However RP may continue until tomorrow at 8 for raffle tickets! ]]
Veru shrugged his shoulders as he looked over the muddy bay. So far he'd found nothing... but by the look of Naseera's grin, others had been much more successful. Just his luck. He'd been hoping to at least snag a smile of his own from the rather lovely looking cat. Oh well. "Any luck, An?"
The blackened young lioness shook her head, her face about as sour as they could come. "Absolutely nothing! Just fish bones. That's not even fair. I think there are rodents that are finding more things then I am!" Her ears flattened. "Miloooo, I didn't even find one single cursed object."
Beside her, the scarred jackal rose his head. Veru wasn't certain what role the little dog seemed to have in this operation, but he had been watching them all with an almost kingly gaze. Odd. What, was he some sort of jackal bigshot around here? When he spoke, his voice was thick with some sort of accent. "Better that you not. We don't need any further tears into the Other World."
Veru arched his eyebrow. He didn't know what that meant, but An seemed to nod. With a sigh, the golden lioness rubbed her cheek, and looked over at the other lions searching, still digging in the mud. "Kinda strange that the water dried up though."
The jackal shifted his ears, turning towards the same scene. "Yes. It is troubling. We are making preparations."
"I'm sure deserts have droughts all the time," Veru commented, shuffling back into the mud.
"I can't remember a time when this place dried up..." An trailed off.
"Nor can I," said the jackal.

That item... Tanuri gaped at it.
Now its brethren had come out to torment the white lioness's paws, too?! STUPID THINGS. His toe was still sore from its two nicks. And so was his pride.
Grinding his fangs in irritation, the male turned away from the digging spot. He had had enough. Sure, they had found some...kind of interesting necklaces, but everything else was junk. Though he did see the lioness had become fond of two small, glittering stones she had found. Well, at least she had unearthed something mildly interesting (aside from the necklaces). Perhaps it was time for the game of treasure hunting to come to an end?
"I"m tired of this," Tanuri lied, "maybe we should take that sharp thing as a sign to take a break or something."
For whatever reason, the lion was filled with politeness enough to wait for the lioness's response before he moved.

As he continued his trek towards the seemingly empty oasis, Kob took his time to pause at the edge of the barren pools side, staring into its nude disposition. If he could frown, he would. There were others about, but he didn't give any mind or care to them, descending down into the open dip. Perhaps there would be some leftover critters to nibble on... some that got stuck in the ground. Though as the lizard was searching about, he instead came upon random trinkets and old artifacts. What would a lizard want with these old things?

[[Update:
Rather then rolling tonight, I'll be rolling Friday at 8PM EST. I'm delaying the rolling for anyone who might have missed the game yesterday, but also so that there's a really nice post up about familiars in the forum. <3 This post will serve as a member list of sorts so we can start to keep track of all the little guys running around!
And, if people have an interest in continuing RP with their NPC critters, I'll try and make a spot for them too. ]]

She had eaten from a kill her parents had brought in and then collapsed in the back of the family den and slept for a few hours. But the faint rustling of feathers by her ear had woken her up about an hour ago. Strangely she felt perfectly refreshed after her nap and after nudging Aiolos and getting the bird to hop up onto her shoulder, she slipped out and made her way back down to the dried up oasis, leaving her mall pile of treasures by her bed.
This time she padded across to the opposite side of the mud pool and after selecting an area that hadn't been dug yet, she set to work.
