Cellyn shook her head. Light Dancer was larger than her usual horses, but the concept was the same. She supposed he expected her to take offense, but she wasn't that sensitive. "I'm all right," she said, before sliding off and catching herself on the stirrup before falling over. "Mostly," she added sheepishly, with a small grin. "The tent gear is all on his back, I thought it'd be easier to keep it together. I got two, in case you wanted one as well," Cellyn continued, straightening herself and stroking Light Dancer's nose.

Noj nodded, glancing around the forest for signs of movement besides the wind. It was a tad eerie, since all the leaves were gone, but not enough so to make him want to continue. Sleep deprivation slowed combat reflex. That was that. "I'll take one, I don't plan on sleeping in the snow, even if it is more sparse." He drew the cloak a little tighter too him. He disliked the cold, but he tended to overplay it, and that was gone from his thoughts, seeing that he was on edge. He'd be sleeping with the tent flap open, so sounds wouldn't be muffled, but wind would still...for the most part...be blocked. And the cold could settle in and have children. By the Light he hated camping in the Winter.

"All right then." She nodded cheerfully, having expected him to refuse her offer with some macho explanation or another. It was nice to have her efforts acknowledged, even if it was in a tiny way. "I'll start setting them up, it's the least I can do," she offered, beginning to haul the bundles off the mule's back and onto the ground, easily pulling them apart. She had learned how to set up tents and the like from one of her cousins, who took her hunting a few times. She never liked shooting animals, but the rest of it she had enjoyed.
They were set up in a decent amount of time, and she was pleased to see she had remembered the correct way instead of collapsing them eight times before she got it. She glanced over at Noj, questioning. "There's food in the saddlebags, if you wanted to eat it. I don't know if you wanted a fire, so everything can be eaten cold," Cellyn told him, having taken his apparent paranoia into account.

Noj shook his head. "A fire is welcome. No point in freezing our selves. I just feel a tad jumpy. I can almost swear that Darkfriend was looking for me is all. It that were true, that would make me important to somebody, and I'd prefer to live my life in obscurity if I had my way of it." It really wouldn't even have bothered him if he was seen by one of his former colleges, labeled a deserter, and chased after. But a fortelling, and Asha'man, and a Darkfriend recognizing him on sight? That was just too much.

Cellyn nodded, slightly sympathetic. She knew what it felt like to be hunted down, of a sort, but wasn't about to share that with Noj. "You can start the fire, then, I never really got the hang of it," she admitted, taking the mule by the bridle and leading him over to a tree to tie him off. She wasn't about to do the same with the warhorse, no matter how much he seemed to tolerate her.

Noj couldn't help but chuckle when Cellyn didn't tie Light Dancer. It was a smart move, but it was still funny. He still swore that horse knew more than he let on, and was just laughing secretly at Noj about the whole thing. The b*****d. Gathering as dry a wood as he could for kindling, Noj reached for his flint and tinder for a moment, and sighed. What was the point. Doing as he practice, he emptied his mind of thought, and grabbed a hold of something that symbolized fire. How did he know? He didn't, that's just what his gut told him. Focusing on the wood, he spun the 'fire' around it, causing it to light. It worked, huh. Glancing at the dying tree next to him, he grabbed 'air' and formed it into a blade, hacking at the dead thing until he had split out a good handful of logs for the fire. He was tempted to take it a step further and see if he could remove the water from it, but he didn't want to push things too much yet. Sitting down by the fire after brushing aside the pesky snow, he yawned. "You know how to cook or want me too?"

"That, I can do," Cellyn replied, without a trace of smugness. Her father may have had several interesting notions on how to raise a daughter, but cooking skills was still just as important as her bargaining and mathematics in his mind. She retrieved some indistinguishable bits of food from the bag, as well as a pot that she rested near it. "I can make some stew, it's easiest and it'll fill us up," she offered, offering him a blanket from the saddle as well to sit on. She had already ensure the mule was warm with a cloth of his own and wrapped her own cloak around her as she settled peacefully by the pot, her hair glowing in the firelight as she focused on the food. She was beginning to have that throbbing headache again, the one that usually meant bad dreams, and fervently hoped it wouldn't be at all like the battle she had dreamed of at the inn. The last thing she needed was Noj thinking she was crazy or hysterical.

Noj heaved a sigh of relief. He hated cooking, he could, but he preferred to not have a hand in the things he consumed. He was a pretty good judge at blacksmithing, but blacksmithing and things such as potatoes were wholly different animals...so to speak. Lying down on the blanket by the fire, he focused on another log, pulling it over with a tendril of 'Air.' He was still getting the hang of it, but if he did say so himself, he was a rather good self study. "So, how far do you plan on going anyway? Southward that is."

"As far south as necessary - for business," she added, a little too hastily. She busied herself with the pot and potatoes, the dried meat already in. "Business deals, the more we have the better the trade goes," she muttered. It was a weak save, but she hoped Noj would let it go. They both had secrets, apparently, and if they were going to travel together it would be best to leave it be. Preparing the food was a comforting ritual, something she hadn't done much since she had left home since she preferred the relative safety of inns to camping outdoors. And as it was one of the few feminine things her father had found fit to teach her - her "saving grace" as an aunt put it - it was pleasant to have someone to appreciate it.

Noj flicked his eyes toward her before he returned to his levitating log. Something he'd learned about channeling was that the removal of emotion was necessary, just a way for people to crutch through from what he could tell. All that was needed was focus on what you did, just that most people couldn't focus very well. He had to admit that it was hard, but making sure no thoughts or emotion entered your mind WHILE you maintained this focus seemed more so difficult. Reaching up and grabbing the log from the air above him, he let go of the log with his mind, and on a whim, attempted to pull the water from it. At least till he realized that it wasn't just water, but ice. If he tugged on the water, or more, 'channeled' it anywhere else with anymore force, he'd break apart the log. The only way he could effectively do it would be to channel just enough 'Fire' to melt the ice but not catch the log on fire, and then pull the newly liquid water out of the log. That...seemed a little far out of reach... Realizing that he was muttering his stream of thought under his breath, he sighed. She probably already knew that Noj was a thoughtful man from before, so her hearing his presumptions didn't bother him much. It just felt kinda weird to be so care free around another person, female, male, or whatever. They seemed to be at a 'I won't poke you so don't poke me' standpoint. Meh. "We all have our reasons I spose, don't worry." I have my mountain and you have yours. Standing up, he looked around the dead looking forest. That was another reason he hated Winter, everything looked...dead. He glanced at Light Dancer, who seemed to be adventurously digging through the snow with his hooves, looking for grass or something. Glad someone was enjoying himself. "I swear that horse is making fun of me somehow."

Cellyn nodded, relieved Noj wasn't going to pursue her words any further. She glanced over at the horse and couldn't help but giggle. "I think he thinks you're being a bit uptight about it all," she guessed with a wide smile. "Maybe just relax and he'll stop laughing at you." She returned her attention back to the food, poking it experimentally with a ladle and smiling a bit to herself. She had been right, the man wasn't as bad as he tried to make everyone think. Any man with a horse like Light Dancer couldn't be all bad, she reasoned to herself as she continued harassing the meat into softening. His channeling made her curious, as she watched out of the corner of her eye, but did her best not to stare - she doubted he'd appreciate that much. Cellyn just hoped he wouldn't attract any Aes Sedai to them, she couldn't stand the woman. Always using others as pawns in their obscure games. She had met one once, years ago as a child, but her father had reacted strangely and insisted she remain in her room for the remainder of the sister's stay.

Noj looked the horse up and down appraisingly, though the creature didn't seem to notice or care. "Maybe, but I've had the feeling that horse was laughing at me since I first tried to ride him. I had to hog tie that b*****d before he even let me close." He was always a prideful creature, and was of the best stock on a horse you could find, and was even counted among Andor's national treasures, when Elyane...er...her Majesty, had dabbled at letting her military members in taming the horse, and Noj had been the only one to manage it. It had earned him a couple of promotions. And when he ran, Light Dancer had just waltzed out of the stable and followed him. They'd been traveling partners ever since. "Well, in any case, I need some sleep." eying the tent. "Rouse me if you need anything."

"All right." Cellyn nodded, the stew having long been eaten while Noj had stared off into the distance. She had no idea what he was thinking about and wasn't sure she really wanted to know anyway, as she neatly packed up the cooking supplies she had used. She hated leaving things out and besides, the last thing she wanted to do was attract wild animals with her stupidity. A last check assured her the two animals were fine for the night and she crawled into her own small tent, the blankets already waiting for her. The cold was enough to convince her to go to sleep fully dressed, even her boots more comfortable with the warmth they provided.
Blood, rage, a red mist surrounded her at every turn. The chain was heavy, wrapped around her neck like a noose. Yet it could have been tighter, could have been painful, but it was warm and seemed to ground her amidst all the chaos. The battle was all around her, men killing one another in one name or another, and she blindly ran for some sort of safety. A swordsman bent from his horse, his blade aimed to run her through, and she screamed -
And a hand clamped over her mouth as she shot awake, her scream muffled by the gloved hand of a strange man. Cellyn instinctively knew it was Noj, although how she did was a mystery. She was covered in a cold sweat and stiff as she was hauled out of the tent. "Now, be a good little girl and it'll go easier for you," the man crooned softly in her ear, as she was hoisted in front of him on a horse after being dragged away from the campsite. There were four other men with him, all silent and deadly - "Assassin." she realized with growing dread. Her mistake had finally caught up with her. The hand was removed from her face after a few minutes of hard riding. "My name is Jurel, milady, and I hope you don't misunderstand your situation," he started. "I already can guess who hired you," she retorted, not about to be a weeping damsel in distress. He merely nodded. "Then you know what's in store, good. Just be quiet about it and I won't hurt you more than necessary," he assured her.

Noj's eyes darted open, something felt...odd. Not right. It was that feeling he got around Shadowspawn and rather nasty Darkfriends. And this one was enough to nearly make his stomach lurch. He waited a few moments, expecting a scuffle of some sort, pretending to continue sleeping, until a few minutes passed. Deciding that nothing out of the ordinary was at least within striking distance, he got up and looked down. The fire appeared to have been doused, which he didn't do, and he feel asleep after Cellyn. Channeling a little, he relit the fire, and took a look around. Cellyn's tent appeared to have been messed with, and there were marks of a person being drug, slowly turning into unwilling steps. With a crashing realization, Noj realized he'd been dropped into a horrid story telling cliche. By the Light.
Glancing around, he took into account that nothing else had been tampered with, and that Light Dancer and the mule had both been left alone, which kind of irked him. If the dumb mule had been taken, then he'd be able to chase after Cellyn's kidnappers without worrying, but he was against leaving a creature to starve. "Blood and Ashes, that woman loves making my life complicated." Rifling through the bags, he took what he believed important, the money, hunting bow, blankets, and the life, quickly transferring them to Light Dancer. Food would've been nice too, but hunting was just as good, and he need speed. Cutting the mule loose and slapping it's rear, he let it run, and then mounted his warhorse. "Well friend, it appears that we have some trouble ahead of us." And with that, he veered the horse back onto the road. Unfortunately for the kidnapper, tracking him in the snow was an easy task. To an even greater degree, she was his meal ticket, and he wasn't about to let that go, no matter how annoying Cellyn could sometimes be. Adrenaline pumping, Noj kicked Light Dancer into a gallop, almost feeling sorry for the poor b*****d.

Cellyn had fallen into a sullen silence, as her kidnappers tried to prod her into a rage with their remarks. Only the one she rode with, Jurel, remained silent. She looked around and noticed a familiar saddlebag on the side of his horse, in surprise. "What is that?" she demanded against her better judgment. He snickered. "Your fancy dresses, milady," he informed her. Her jaw dropped open as she realized her kidnappers had actually taken the saddlebag with her belongings in it - weren't they going to kill her? "Why?" she managed, her mind racing. If they had taken her things, they probably weren't going to kill her, they wanted her alive. And if that was the case, then she might have a chance to escape... "The little lordling who hired us is determined to make an example of you. I wish him luck," Jurel added with a snicker, as if the idea of a man trying to make an example out of Cellyn amused him. Normally, the thought would amuse her, too. "And a good way is to have his wife parade around in clothes she made, intending freedom." "Wife?!" she shrieked, earning a slap across her mouth for it. "None of that, milady," he growled, rubbing his ear and returning her glare with one of his own. "What'd you think could happen to you, hm? Reject every suitor after playing fast and loose and think there would be no consequences?" Cellyn blushed hotly - it was sort of true. She had taken a liking to the "lordling" - at least until he had nearly broken her jaw. "My father -" "Your father will be confused, but safe if you go along with it," Jurel informed her. The threat snapped her mouth shut.
