For once in her life, she thought that perhaps being in spider form wouldn't be that bad, especially since she wouldn't have to smell this. When she heard Mac's voice, she doubled her pace, getting down the stairs quickly despite the fact that the smell was getting stronger and stronger with every step she took until she finally reached the room where the stench (it was too terrible to cal it a 'smell' anymore') was coming from.

It was obvious what Mac was doing, but what was Charlie doing? Looking through the rotten food?

"... Charlie, what exactly are you looking for?" She couldn't help asking; yes she admired him for the fact that he was looking through something revolting for clues but... The noise in the background. It was actually starting to irritate her, that constant buzzing. Ignoring Mac's words about helping Charlie, she moved over to the skelevision instead, giving it a few knocks on the top in an attempt to stop the white noise.

"You think... Someone lived here before it was abandoned? There's a bed and everything..." Her voice was muffled as she had her nose covered, but also because she was trying very hard to keep the contents of her stomach in her stomach, not that she had eaten anything for a while.

Mac wasn't going to help with the work then fine. More for him and Lizzy! Wait. The pink haired demon scratched his head trying to figure out just where this worked in his favor. The answer was that it obviously did not work out well for him at all but Charlie was still trying to figure this out.

"Alright Lizzy, you start over there and I'll dig through the rotting garbage." At least Charlie had the sense to not let Lizzy touch rotting food. Lizzy was a girl after all and one of the friends he'd come to know here. But Lizzy seemed to have already decided for her self that digging through the garbage was not her thing as she was messing with the skelevision instead. Charlie hadn't noticed of course being knee deep in devils know what.

And then it finally clicked. The fact that him and Lizzy were doing all the 'Charlie Work' didn't work in his favor at all! He'd been had! Ah well, Charlie went back to digging through garbage. He wasn't quite sure what he was looking for though.

"Uhhh guys! WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR ANY WAYS?"

Riley stood behind Malodore, settling her head on it's shoulder as it read the note from there. She remained silent - everything the note could have told them was neatly gleaned by Malodore. Such a brilliant mind.

There was one thing she wasn't in total agreement of, however. Not all of them, though. She whispered. I don't think all of the reapers are former students. Her eyes unfocused as her thoughts turned to the figure that had been watching them while they entered the building. As with anything, there must be a hierarchy. Perhaps the reapers we've been fighting were students, once. With one exception. Regardless, I'd rather not share that fate. We should search for something that could be used as a signal. I'd be glad to leave this island a mystery, if it means leaving the island at all.

"I think someone...ugh...tried to live here, probably." Mac said, taking a pause from trying to free the wheel to drape himself a little more on the ladder, squeezing his eyes shut to ride out a nice, long wave of nausea. He had a decent view from where he was, and it was a mess! "I dunno though, fat lotta good hiding here would do with busted door locks..." He said, recalling that the locks to the storm doors were...rather conveniently broken. "And this CANDLEJACKIN THING WON'T OPEN! BLOODY EFFIN MARY!" He growled at the rusted wheel and his own repeated failure.

"I don't think they left on good terms..." He trailed off with a gag before going back to work, his vision blurry with the stench-induced tears. "I think I'ma need some air soon..." His tone was low and full of regret; he kind of wished he'd gone another route, kind of. When Charlie called out, Mac rolled his eyes.

"Clues, I guess. Anything to figure out what's going on?" He wasn't sure; he didn't tell Charlie to look through the rotting food, he just said to 'look'. He was about to continue when he realized something.

"...How is that TV even on? Shouldn't it have, yanno, stopped working a long time ago...?" Unless...maybe someone had used it a lot more recently than the rot suggested...?

"What if... Someone tried to live here - uh, hide here? - and someone else broke the lock from outside to get to the someone in here?" She frowned, still hitting the top of the skelevision to try to get it to work somehow. Did that theory even make sense to anyone but her? The stench was making it difficult to think, really...

"Uh... Anything that looks odd?" She replied Charlie, twitching when she realized that he would probably smell like the basement they were currently in, even after exiting it. Ugh.

"We could all use some fresh air soon, I think," Her frown deepened as she stared at Mac for a while, "You know... That does make sense. If that," She gestured briefly to the wheel Mac had been trying to turn, "Had rusted shut, and the food had all gone bad, shouldn't this skelevision not be working...? It looks like a really old model too... I mean, it feels odd somehow. Different."

Mandy stood in indecision as everyone started splitting up and finding ways into the building. The main group went through the window and there was safety in numbers but they need to explore this place and find out what they could as quickly as possible so that way was out. Lizzy had gone downstairs and she did still have the ghouls coat but Mac was also there and she could just smell another fight, plus something foul down there.

That left up the ladder, which if she was trueful all her instincts screamed at her to take. And well who was she to say no to them... besides three had gone downstairs so three should go up.

Mind made up she carefully started climbing after Sepheran and Arachne.

As she made it in through the window she paused, nose crinkling at all the dust. "Must have been a long while since someone last went here. Any useful finds yet?" she asked, joining in the search herself as she did so. Who knew what and where their signal was after all, could be shoved at the bottom of one of the boxes for all they knew.

Stage 1 results
Well you've managed to make it into the lighthouse. those who went through the basement had to use a bit of elbow grease and try not breath too deeply, but eventually managed to make it up to the main floor. Just in time to see the students in the attic fall through the floor, right onto the people already there. But never let it be said that good can't come of tragedy, as a wall suddenly began turning, revealing the inside of the tower beyond it. Apparently the clatter and commotion triggered the mechanism of a hidden door. A piece of paper drops down.

- the attic: the fall was pretty jarring, but fortunately, you fell on something comfortable (-1hp)
- the window: that had to hurt (-2 hp)
- the basement: your effort paid off in no damage and a memorable visual
- did not choose: -3hp

Stage 2
As you enter, you look up to see the cloaked figure from before, silently looking down on you from the top of the stairs. It's GO TIME. Except...as you run, walk or skip up- those stairs....you seem to be getting no closer...you look down and...you don't see the bottom. After awhile you notice one of your companions climbing the stairs...right beneath you in a way that should not be possible without magic or gravity abilities. Or are they? Suddenly you look back up to find the top of the building is missing as well, the stairs just go on forever in either direction, and your not so sure which way is up or down anymore. Looking out the windows just shows you grey upon grey, and proves no help at all.

Your Choices

You choose to continue climbing, this...whatever it is has to give out at some point...right?!

You jump off.
And find yourself floating the air.

Just as Aksaja was opening his mouth to make another comment, something FELL ON HIM from above, knocking the lightning dragon to the ground with a startled cry. He flailed wildly for a moment or two, until he realized . . . it was a person, not a thing. "Ow," he grumbled, pushing whoever it was off of him so he could sit up.

Now he had more bruises to add to his collection, lovely. Then there was a grinding, grating noise and Aksaja jumped, turning with pipe at the ready. Only to see a wall moving, turning around to reveal the inside of the tower. "Score!" he said with a grin, heading to take a peek inside - and completely missing seeing the piece of paper fall.

Looking up, he spotted the figure they'd seen from the outside and frowned. "Hey! You, get your a** down here and tell us what the Jack is going on!" He was tired, hurt, aching . . . and he just wanted to get the JACKING HELL off this island!

With Arachne's help Sepheran managed to at least clear a way to the next level. Wiping his hands on his pants he turned to Arachne. "Well, looks like we have our way down if we need it, let's check out those boxes-" the Basilisk began before his attention was turned to the sound of someone coming up the ladder.

Quickly Sepheran moved to place himself in front of Arachne protectively, it could have been another student who followed them...or something else. Who knew...but Sepheran wasn't going to chance it. Luckily it was merely Mandy...or maybe unluckily as Sepheran heard the floor creak under the newly added weight. No...

Seriously?!

CREAK...CRASH!

The rotten floorboards beneath them gave way sending them crashing down. Sepheran braced for impact...though luckily it wasn't as hard as he imagined...probably cause he fell right on top of Aksaja...

Groaning Sepheran sat up before quickly as he was promptly pushed off. "S-Sorry..." Sepheran replied hoping he hadn't harmed the other too much during his fall...wait what about Arachne and Mandy who had feel with him? Looking around it seemed they had luckily fell on other students as well...well lucky for them anyway, not quite the poor students beneath them.

Wait...what was that sound? Pausing a moment he looked around hearing a clicking noise just as a hidden door opened...

Creeeeeeak

"What was tha- EEEK!"

Mandy barley had the time to pose her question, putting down the box she'd been holding as she did so when she felt the floor suddenly give out beneath her.

OhJackWhat?

For a suspend second she flailed in surprise, mind registering that her natural ability wasn't kicking and that this was going to hurt before the ground rushed up to greet her.

Only it didn't really hurt as much as it should. And the floor looked rather purpl-

Face going scarlet Mandy practically lept out of the demonesses lap she'd landed in, looking even more surprised than she had at her sudden drop. "Ah- er- sorry bout that... floor gave out...d-didn't mean to land like that."

That had been a rather compromising position to land in.

Coughing awkwardly she offered the demoness a hand up in apology. As she did so she heard a grinding sound and glancing out of the corner of her eye realized that they'd revealed a hidden passage way, most likely into the lighthouse.

That was good at least...

Arachne turned to reply to Mandy, vaguely annoyed that what had become a moment of peace with Sepheran had been interrupted. But she squashed those thoughts, given their situation she should keep her mind firmly on that. She opened her mouth to speak, put her foot out and disappeared from view as several rotted floorboards finally gave way.

She let out a short scream, before landing on something on the floor below that was both hard and soft at the same time. She groaned, murmuring Sepheran's name and opened her eyes that she'd closed during the fall, moving slowly to see who or what she'd landed on.

And it was a what, she wasn't even sure of this student's name..

WHUMP!

Malodore's first horrible thought was that the hallucinations were back, as what seemed like half the ceiling and half the students plummeted downwards. It saw the shadow of something heading towards it and dove away, hitting the floor - though not entirely successfully. Arachne landed firmly on its legs (fortunately for her, as Malodore's backblades were quite sharp). The plague doctor winced. That was going to bruise.

"Ah, buon giorno," it said, a little weakly. No, this hurt too realistically to be a hallucination....

'Jack, I'm so sorry..' Arachne said, hastily, but slightly shakily getting to her feet, wincing as a spot on her body twinged. She would feel this later, but probably not so much as the..boil?

'Are you okay? Do want a hand up?' she moved to one side, and held out a hand should it want to take it, looking around quickly to see if Sepheran was okay, and the other ghoul that had been up there with them..and where was Elizabeth?

She also noticed the door that had been revealed, but not the piece of paper.

Aksaja glanced back at the others then, tossing a quick, "It's okay," to Sepheran, though he wasn't exactly sure of the other student's name. "But that cloaked guy we saw from outside is up these stairs." He jerked a thumb at the start of the staircase.

((HP: 23 DROP BEARS HURT.))

Just as Arachne had been by Mandy when they fell, Riley and Malodore had been the unlikely participants of mirroring their positions one floor below. Riley heard the crack of the ceiling above, but the most she had time for was to snap her head up at the sound, and cringe all of her tentacles tightly to protect them. The ceiling caved in on top of them, leaving sodden debris and rotting wood to slam against her limbs and bring her tumbling to the ground. She landed on her rear with a solid thud, and felt a strong pressure land on her midsection as soon as she was on the floor. One hand lifted to rub her head in a groan, and the other tried to push off whatever debris was pinning her body down.

The debris was soft, and squishy, and molded into Riley's hand. She looked up and instantly pulled her hand away. That was no debris - there was a drop bear straddling her.

As quickly as Riley realized it, Mandy was climbing off of her, holding out her hand. Riley looked at the hand, before looking up at the ghoul, and then looking up at the ceiling. She then gave Mandy one more look, before sliding back down to lie on the floor. Her cheeks were a lovely shade of dark purple.

I ah. I think I'll stay here for a minute. Catch my breath.
