Alwine decided to be brave and sit down near the incubus that was fishing. Though she was sitting near the edge, Alwine wasn't worried. A ghost was a ghost was a ghost. She wanted to help out more than anything, because even though she didn't get hungry herself, she wanted the others to be able to eat.
"So..." she said to Rosciel. "... I hope he gets the general idea that the most of us are not singers."
She tossed the line into the water and waited for either a fish or a response.

Professor Blue happened to be listening, and he happened to have something to say in response to such an accusation. "If you can talk, you can sing. I believe, yes that's what it is, you're talking. If you refuse to sing or are somehow unable to sing then you can make music another way. Song is the easiest form of communication. It does not involve any outside tools. It is my secondary choice, myself. However, I will never say no to song!"
It almost seemed as if Professor Blue was delirious. He was now singing some song about a lady in red, and if the students didn't know any better they would assume he was now singing a song about... his ship. It was such a lovely lady in red, wasn't it? Oh, he could sing about her all day long. It was fortunate that the students were near, they could fish and sing with him!
Perhaps those who humoured the demon would be rewarded.

"I didn't mean to upset you..." Alwine trailed off, but the professor was already singing. Despite how irksome he was on the trip, when he sang the ghoul couldn't help but wish that she wore red. If only his music wasn't so charming.
With a resigned sigh, the shy ghoul decided to attempt a song. When she sang, her voice often hitched due to nerves, and she wasn't very good at holding notes.
"I wish that a lady would rise from the sea, And present a special gift to me. A choker of pearls so fine and rare, That she threaded from her fiery hair..."
Alwine's bandages had a slightly pink hue to them from ghostly blushing, and she quickly ducked her neck in-between her shoulders and went back to fishing.

Rosc glanced over his shoulder when the ghost gho- Alwine, he knew her name by now, he needed to start associating more names with faces... Or lack there of. He'd let his mind wander slightly.
Alwine was offering her hot chocolate, to anyone who would take it. He still had some of his snacks that he had packed, he didn't need it, not really. So with a shake of his head, he turned back to fishing, trying to get some more substantial food for this blasted trip. He'd already managed to get several large fish aboard. He wondered if they would be able to replenish the boat's food supply.
"This trip is ridiculous..."
And then Alwine sat next to him, commented about the singing. Blue didn't take that comment lightly. The incubus shrugged in response. "Everyone can sing, but not everyone can sing well," he said somewhat softly back, focusing on fishing as the ghost began to sing. She wasn't half bad. But she looked embarrassed now. Rosc sighed and let his head fall back a bit, as if he looked up at the sky though he couldn't see it even if he wanted to.
I believe, that there's something deep inside That shouldn't be from time to time. I sure found out, thought love was such a crime The more you care, the more you fall. No need to worry, no need to turn away 'Cause it don't matter, anyway...
Rosc wasn't half bad, either. He gave Alwine a small shrug and what might have been something of a smile.

"You're very good! I would clap, but I don't want to drop the pole or scare off the fish..."
She sucked in her breath and tried to think of another verse to lift the spirits a bit:
"But behind every pain lies a sunrise, And when you see the ambers of her eyes, You might be able to rise and see, That somehow this feeling was always meant to be!"
Her haul was alright, and the ghoul was happy that her singing hadn't managed to scare the fish off. It wasn't that she was bad. She could be a decent singer if she had proper practice, she just had no confidence. None.

Ren, having caught Gabrian's quick nod towards him as he moved towards Arachne, felt his face flush slightly. With a sigh, he inched across the deck until he reached the other too, half hiding behind the nix for a moment before he realized he was being stupid. Then he stepped around Gabrian, tilted his head down to look at Arachne and said, somewhat embarrassedly, "Thank you for saving me. I don't think...I could have made it out with your help."
While Mac and Rosc had also helped him out, Arachne had been the one to get the rope to him and keep him from going under. Ren had a feeling he owed her, and, swallowing his pride, he offered the ghoul a genuine smile. "Thank you," he said again, really meaning it. Then he sneezed, three times in quick succession, and grappled for his bucket, which he had set down while making his (watery) hot chocolate. He actually felt relatively good, for once.
This happy mood vanished quite quickly once Ren heard Professor Blue speaking and A.) discovered that they had no food, and B.) they were going to have to fish for it.
Fish. Ren felt nauseated by even just the sound of it, looking at the pole handed to him with an expression similar to that of horror and disgust mixed together.
"D-do we have to..?" he asked meekly, attempting a weak smile, but he didn't really wait for an answer, since he knew it would either be that, or starve. Still, even as Ren threw his line into the water, he might not be able to eat that fish, for several reasons.
To his surprise, he managed to catch a small, five pound fish on his first try. Resisting the urge to gag, Ren turned away from it, offering Alwine a friendly smile.
"Way to go," he said, in what he hoped was an encouraging and pleasant tone. He still did not know the rest of the crew that well. "You seem to be getting the hang of this pretty well."
Ren threw his line in again, only this time absently humming a few bars of a song he had heard a few days prior. This was mostly to settle his own nerves, since he enjoyed singing, and partially because it kept him occupied instead of thinking just how much he hated fish and just how incredibly seasick he was...
"When you're singled out, The red, well it filters through.
So lay down, the threat is real, When his sight goes red again. Seeing red again, Seeing red again..."

exclaim The Sleuth was glad things seemed to be settling down, she smiled and drank her own cup of hot chocolate and tried to relax. There now wasn't that better?
Sadly this moment of tranquility was ended with the realization that their food supply was gone. The delicious mug of hot cocoa was probably the last thing they would be putting in their mouths for a while if they didn't get fishing.
At least Rosc, Gabrian, & Mac had found a cute little sugar cube floating atop their hot cocoa.
Alwine instead had finished her drink only to find a silver pumpkin seed rattling around in the bottom of her mug, how fortunate!
((Sugar cube winners post profiles next post, Kaze you may link this as proof of your seed win.))

The smile turned to a bit of a smirk. "You're good, too... I hate singing. Lyrics... They take away the real feeling in a song," he replied, leaning back a bit. He'd gotten into a spot of nothing for a bit. Maybe they were fishing too close together. Alwine was getting all the fish. Ah well. He didn't want to make another ghoul mad at him, especially when he didn't know when the boat ride would be ending. So he decided against possibly slighting her by leaving.
"I prefer just... playing. Hand on the strings, gliding the bow back and forth..." It was the only past-time he had, except melee combat and playing tricks on the Kitsune at home... Though that usually seemed more like work than a past-time.

Alwine was about to protest his compliment when Rosciel admitted that he hated singing.
"I'm so sorry!" she squeaked, almost dropping the rod in the water. "If I had known that, I wouldn't have continued. I don't really know any instruments, though I am learning cello now. So I suppose my appreciation for music isn't the same."
When Ren complimented her, Alwine turned to face him.
"Thank you! I have never done this before, I mean... I'm not sure if it's good compared to someone experienced, I... ah..."
She just decided to sit quietly and listen to his song.

Rosc decided he wasn't going to be catching any more fish than the meager amount he had already managed, so he set his pole aside just as Alwine started apologizing. He waved his hand slightly, brushing off the apology.
"Don't be. It wasn't bad singing, and a capella isn't terrible," he replied with a small nod. It wasn't. He'd much rather hear it over someone playing an instrument badly or... spoons or playing the rigging or banging pots or something like that. Maybe if he heard a song where the vocals didn't take the main focus of the song...
"Cello is a beautiful instrument. Did you know using a different bow can produce such a different sound that one might take it for a different string instrument altogether?" At least, that's what Rosanna, the feminine adult influence in his life, thought when she first heard him take a stronger, typically upright bass bow to his cello. It broke his strings more often than his other bow, but he mostly kept it for when he was in a mood.

(( Edit: Minipet Profile! Thank you. <3 )) In fact, Mac had been about to wander over to Arachne when Gabrian got there first. Well, he was certainly too late, then. Moments later he found himself closer to Alwine once more, still making good on that promise (or rather, forced agreement) to look after her. Despite not having done much so far, he had to give himself a pat on the back; nothing terribly bad had happened to the invisible-or-headless ghoul...
He never did find out which she was, did he?
Hm. That would be a question for later, I'm sure.
The odd looking sugar cube was pocketed for now, and he moved to take a pole towards the ledge of the boat, casting it silently into the water. They started to sing again it seemed, and so he thought he'd join in once more, using another verse of the song he had started singing earlier.
Fifteen men of the whole ship's list Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! Dead and be damned and the rest gone whist! Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! The skipper lay with his nob in gore Where the scullion's axe his cheek had shore And the scullion he was stabbed times four And there they lay, and the soggy skies Dripped down in up-staring eyes In murk sunset and foul sunrise Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum.

Arachne looked up from her mug, slightly startled by Gabrian's approach as she hadn't heard him until he spoke. She shook her head.
'Sweet huh?' she gave a little a smile. 'I'm fine, it wasn't totally gross, although I didn't get the little marshmallows. It's yours anyway.' she looked from him to Ren who had also come over. She shifted, unused to so much attention but nodded at the boil.
'Anytime I'm sure.' she replied, startled that she meant it, but then quickly added. 'Though I hope for both our sakes that you don't go in the water again. Are you okay now?' she asked before rolling her eyes skywards at the Professors announcement. What was this fresh hell? She shook her head and stood, taking her rod and casting with little enthusiasm. She'd never fished before, and was unlikely to be good at it, as evidenced by the first thing that she pulled in at a tug on the line..a rusty old can.
'Well, anyone want to eat that?' she asked, before casting again.

'Another one?' she was annoyed now, especially as they had gone down to no food thanks to their greedy Professor. So much for looking after them! And now he wanted a song..fine. She tried to dredge one up from memory and sang it as she cast for the third time, hoping for some fish.

'Finally!' Arachne called out, pulling in the fish and letting it flop and gasp its last on the deck. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand, and then crouching, poked it tentatively, before picking it up by the tail.
She took it down to the kitchen, shooting a furious glance at their Professor as she passed him, wanting to get it out of his sight before he decided that he was 'hungry' again. That done, and with hands cleaned she came back on deck.

((Profile: Daffu. Fishing results of this post: Nothing caught)) Gabrian tilted his head again when Arachne spoke to him, "I know it's mine, my dear. But I'm offering it to you, in case you want it. I'm not thirsty anyhow, and it would be such a waste, don't you think?" he held out his mug still, turning his head to watch Ren as he apparently chose to hide behind the nix's frame (which wasn't too large to begin with, really), "Oh, don't worry about him too much," this was spoken softly at the demoness, his arm reaching out to set his mug of cocoa by her side; if she wouldn't take it, he'd just leave it there for now, "He'll be right as rain as soon as we get off this boat. He's not a sea creature. Quite the opposite. All he needs... is dry land and he'll be back to his playful, teasing, laid back self again in no time." His head turned as Professor Blue announced they were out of food and that they would have to catch their own meals from here on out. This wouldn't have been a problem normally; after all, despite his general looks, Gabrian was a predator and often time hunted, even when he really had no need to... just because he felt the need to curve his instincts. However, something told him that this 'fishing' they were going to have to do would not be of the kind he particularly enjoyed, "Err..." he watched their music professor as he instructed them and grabbed a fishing pole, "I'm going to guess we're not allowed to shift into our secondary forms to do this fishing... are we? I don't think I'm going to be of much use for this task in this form." He was proved right when he cast his line and managed too bring up a whole load of... nothing, "I don't know how to fish like this," this was murmured softly as he cast his line again. He was mildly distracted by Blue's singing and the fact other students seemed to be joining in. Somehow, singing about Red (because oh, he was well aware that's whom their professor was singing about; his reaction in music class had made it quite obvious to the nix that he was at least infatuated by the werewolf) felt slightly... awkward. So instead, he chose to sing about friendship. " It's time now, We must be moving onward, It's time for us to fly. Take care and look over your shoulder, I'm there all the time. If you're lost and you need someone to count on, Oh you've got to look to me. Because it's times like these when a good friend is a savior, Oh you come running on back to me. And someday when you're feeling awkward, And someday when you're down, Come to me I will give you anything, I'll turn your frown around." Singing made him feel just a little bit better, even if the fishing was not going so well. He turned and offered Ren a small smirk, "I guess it's as good a time as any to try that seaweed cuisine I told you about, is it not?" except he was well aware he'd told the gryphon he ate it raw, straight out of the water, which meant there was little to no cuisine involved. Poor vegetarian gryphon. Watching Rosc and Alwine out the corner of an eye, he smirked again, "I find lyrics to be quite captivating. It's true that everyone can sing... just not well. But at the same time... in a way, isn't that the beauty of music? Everyone can do it. Anyone can learn to make music in some form or way. I think music is beautiful in all it's forms," his gaze shifted back to the ocean again, "It can be lots of fun too," if you sang or played with people you trusted and you could let loose at least. He was easily recalling those scareoke nights he'd had with his friends and his small smirk turned into an amused smile.
