Captain Salnesh Of the Gray Militia Salnesh then saw Kiyoshi move down the stairs to the entrance of the tower... Salnesh was indeed showing absolutely no remorse or regret for the bloodied events of the night before. She was a soldier; things like remorse were mere hindrances in the long run. On top of that, she honestly believed that it was a struggle for survival... Of course, it was difficult to see that in the day before, but today, she thought, the task would make the fight to live that is constant here more real for the others...
She held out a map, the same she gave to the Shinobi earlier with the same X's marked "Collapsed" on certain areas in the Ebon Fields. She did not say a word to Kiyoshi, believing the map spoke for itself... Plus, she'd be addressing the others as a group anyway. The White-Haired foreigner best wait for the others before going on his way... Even for the most seasoned of fighters, the Black Wastes were a hazardous region of the world. She hoped that everyone present would recognize just how serious this endeavor was and that it demanded their full and complete attention... She's lost too many soldiers out to the wastes because of carelessness, particularly when it came down to the Ebon Fields or the Tomb of the Exiled... She would do well to explain just how dangerous the region of the world really was when all were present and accounted for.

So when I'm crying alone Yeah, when I'm cold as a dying stone
 Neysa
As soon as the alarm went off Neysa almost sprung out of her bed from fright. The noise had startled her awake. She sat up in her bed and looked around with wide eyes. She then let out a groan and fell back on to her bed then pulled the covers over her head. Thinking about all that had happened last night kept her awake most of the night. After a few minutes she finally got up and washed up. She quickly dressed and gathered her things in there her bag. She pulled her cloak on and grabbed her staff then walked out of her room to meet with the others.
As she walked up to the group she noticed that she was the last one to join up. She looked over at the map that the woman held and a soft frown formed on her lips. She had heard of the Ebon Fields and the Tomb of the Exiled. Nothing good came from the wastes. Nothing as far as she knows. She wasn't sure how she was going to help the group out. As far as she can tell, she wasn't the most battle equipped compared to the others. Though she was determined to try her best to hold her ground.

Captain Salnesh Of the Gray Militia & Sefas Minos Alchemist Salnesh inspected each of them... There was still one outsider missing... The Alchemist, if she remembered correctly. Of course, this didn't last long, as the man ran down the stairs and out the door, clothed only in the straps of his vials... Salnesh repressed a snicker, looking at Sefas with the utmost seriousness that resembled a wooden wall ready to burst with a flood.
"... Alchemist... Did you forget something?" "Whatever do you mean? I'm as prepared for this as the day you asked me t-"
The Captain pointed down... Sefas then looked down and realized that he wasn't wearing any clothing. The alchemist shrieked an almost feminine cry of panic as he ran up the stairs and went back to get his clothes on... An incredibly embarrassing moment for such an esteemed scholar. In any case, the Captain remembered business as usual... Even if one of said people conducting business was about as odd as a badger in a tuxedo.
"While we wait for the Alchemist to deign us worthy of him being fully clothed," said the Captain said this with a hint of sarcasm, handing Neysa a map, identical to the ones given to Kiyoshi and the Shinobi. "I want you all to look over that map and memorize it... I don't want you getting lost out in the wastes, as hard as that sounds to do... Apparently, there are ways of getting lost in the open waste, even with Tenepolis being the only structure within 300 miles..." She watched them all to ensure they were actually looking over the map carefully, though truthfully, she only expected the Shinobi to really be paying attention.
Moments later, Sefas fumbled down the stairs, pocketing what appeared to be some vials of gas, a box of matches, and strapping some water skins across his waist. He then let out a sigh as he barely managed to get his robe closed somewhat. He held up his hand and huffed a few words, sounding like he was either incredibly stressed or exhausted.
"All... Done..." "Good. I was wondering when you planned on taking this seriously." The female captain then stood at attention and began to give the group their instructions, her voice seeming to sound straight out of a debriefing manuscript...
"There is a region to the south of the city of Tenepolis called The Ebon Fields. It's a region that has what appears to be the largest dispersion of wildlife, that is to say, plants and animals. With it also comes water that, while initially poisonous, we filter and distribute to the people. However, it appears that the Demons have taken to attacking Water Gatherers, and as such have been making water far more scarce in this region than it already is.
"The Militia has already been assigned to guard the Water Gatherers, but your job will be different... As well as attacking Water Gatherers, Demons have also been focusing their attacks on Enferantite Miners and Prospectors. In these attacks, Miners and Prospectors have found that their digs have collapsed into tunnels that were deeper underground... These tunnels have been found to be littered with bones and other remains of previous travelers and even some Militia personnel. There is some speculation that these tunnels are actually part of the Cavern Network in the Umbral Mountains known by the citizens of Tenepolis as the 'Tomb of the Exiled,' named such because of all the exiles that have died trying to take that route into the Southern Region.
"There are other theories that the Tomb is inhabited by an incredibly significant Demonic Population. If this is true, then we are in even greater danger than we thought... If the caverns run down to the Ebon Fields, it means they are dangerously close to Tenepolis and the city is even more susceptible to attack than we previously believed. Most citizens can hardly comprehend how that's even possible, but the last thing we need is more threats on our borders.
"Your mission is to inspect the Collapsed Tunnels. Look for older remains of humanoid beings, namely those of humans, elves, anyone that would NOT be native to this region of the world. If you are attacked by Demons, DISPOSE OF THEM IMMEDIATELY." She put a great deal of emphasis on this and took a moment to focus on Kiyoshi. "Do not attempt to negotiate with them, do not attempt to communicate with them. All previous attempts at reaching a settlement with the Demons have failed miserably and ended with our people being slaughtered. Make no mistake, the Demons are OPENLY HOSTILE. They will not hesitate to kill you, so you must not let your guard down." She kept her official tone, but there was the slightest hint on her face of exasperation... She seemed like she couldn't believe she had to even explain this. For her, it was akin to saying, "Fire is hot, don't touch it."
Sefas nodded slowly, understanding what she said. He kept his hand on the many vials strapped to his chest, even to a few of them in his pocket... Apparently, there was one that he was particularly fascinated in being carried in his right pocket. He took a map from the Captain, nodding slowly and still looking down, incredibly embarrassed at his little slip-up earlier.
Salnesh looked over them before dismissing them, not sure she could have made the orders any simpler, but decided to add another detail. "These Maps have been enchanted to chart the tunnels once you are inside, so do not worry about keeping track of where you are going. Are there any questions?"

When you die, you are complete When you live you must compete Can the light outway the dark Can you go and leave your mark... Kiyoshi Jino Your Prayers are heard --------------------------- It was best not to speak. Kiyoshi knew that whatever question he could have, the captain would have dismissed it. It seemed her opinion of him was quite low, and Kiyoshi thought it best not to worsen the situation. He looked at the map in his hand, and studied it for a moment. It was enchanted? What a thought. He nodded as the captain finished her briefing, though he did not like what he would have to do. He was not keen on running into any demons on his little expedition, as he didn't want to take any lives. His spear was for protection, not offense.
Kiyoshi found it slightly comical when he saw Sefas appear with no clothing. The sight was definately something required, to lighten the mood just slightly. He could even feel a smile fighting it's way towards his face when it happened. Kiyoshi refused to let it show. He wasn't going to smile that soon. Kiyoshi took a moment to look at everyone gathered there. There were all present. That meant that they would begin their excursion any moment.... ((OOC NOTICE))
((Going to have everyone do one last post before Salnesh dismisses them, then Sefas, Kiyoshi, Shinobi, and Neysa will be posted for in the Black Wastes thread and indicating that they're outside Tenepolis. I will still be RPing as Salnesh in the City and have one of the squadrons find Jaden so he can finally get involved in the main storyline.))

Sefas Minos Alchemist Sefas went over his map, eying it closely with an enormous amount of scrutiny... He seemed to be memorizing what's being said, but decided to write it down just in case, producing a small notebook and writing down everything that sounded like it was relevant. He then inspected his vials, the pockets on his robes, and seemed to nod slowly to himself.
"Well... Not sure how much a demon's going to be effected by choking gas, but just in case... It's rather flammable stuff. I could light it on fire with the matches I've brought... That might incinerate them and get the job done. However, in the long run, I'm not sure how much damage I'd actually be able to do against a group of Demons... They aren't exactly pushovers." He then reached into his pocket, touching the vial of the viscous, globular substance... "I do have something fairly interesting in my pocket... I haven't finished running tests on it, though it could imbue me with some kind of power... What kind, though, I'm not sure... I'm not even sure how it behaves in relativity to the human body, but I guess I can find out at a later time." He released the vial, adjusting his robe and mentally preparing himself for what lay ahead... There was a decent chance something would go wrong today. He might as well face it in the open.
He shook his head at the query the captain gave about whether he had questions. He was ready for what lay ahead, dangerous it may be...

The Gray Militia Meanwhile, in the streets of the city, the Gray Militia has been sent out on a mission by Captain Salnesh the day before; to seek out additional Demonic incursions in the city and eliminate them immediately. Easier said than done, but the soldiers knew it... Their official job was to keep the peace, prevent Demonic incursion and crush any that stand in their way, but their real duty was clear to each soldier; To die in place of civilians until the Demons were destroyed. They each hoped that today's casualties would be minimal, but had a decent idea that whatever was out there, it'd likely kill off half of them... If something was, in fact, out there. Enferantite weapons drawn, the Gray Militia moved about the city as a unit, but technically the patrol was separated into two groups at this time; Alpha and Beta, to keep things simple. There was no real organization as to who was in which, but it mattered little. These soldiers were all disciplined and trained fighters who are willing to die for the survival of their kinsmen... A grim chivalry shared by all Militia members. Finally, a sergeant in one of the groups spoke up. "Beta, you go to the gate... Check for outsiders." The second group nodded in agreement... They went to the gates of Tenepolis... A lot of foreigners have been coming in lately, and they should be properly screened like anyone else... Increased security at best, filtering extermination at best. The Sergeant of the Alpha Squadron began sweeping the streets with his group, asking questions to the citizenry... After much deliberation, they've found out something about a strange wolf walking through... Something was strange... There were no wolves in the Wastes... Unless... The Sergeant led the Alpha Squadron through the alley-ways, searching for a wolf- or something that at least looked like one- in the city limits...

"Shinobi" XXX XXX XXX XXX静かな戦士"the Silent Warrior" Narinthe's gloved hand reached out to gently take the map from her. He looked down at it carefully. It wasn't as if he hadn't seen a map of the Black Wastes before. Hell, he'd traversed it yesterday to get here! He was more intrigued as to what was labeled on it. As footsteps sounded, he looked up, seeing Kiyoshi. Regret panged deep in him again, but he didn't show it. He nodded to acknowledge him, and continued giving the map thought. Neysa showed up, and he nodded to her as well. It would seem, the Shinobi was intent upon knowing his course. Either that or there was something else to the map that help his attention so well. Sefas's footsteps met his ears, and he looked up. Seeing the sight of him without proper attire, he began to have an amused light hit his eyes. before long, it would seem like the man was.. laughing. Yet, no sound resounded through him, it was only in his movements. The Captain sent him away, and as he returned, he folded the map and slipped it away into his pouch and listened with intent. His eye was focused upon her as if to show his attention to her words. Nodding with each bit of true information, he took a mental note of everything said. Except for the demons being hostile; he knew that far too well. She asked if they had inquires. He shook his head gently, his red hair swaying. Nope, none. He'd have to watch for these three, indeed. It seemed Neysa wasn't the fighting type; Sefas didn't have a weapon visible t all.. Kiyoshi might suffice as a fighter, but his heart was too good. Shinobi almost felt it would have been better as a solo mission: he could get in and out undetected no matter whom or what was inside the cave..

When you die, you are complete When you live you must compete Can the light outway the dark Can you go and leave your mark... Kiyoshi Jino Your Prayers are heard --------------------------- The masked man was interesting. Kiyoshi saw the previous night, and just then, that the man was capable of many emotions and actions, though he never spoke. Kiyoshi wondered about him. Why was he silent? Why did he hide his face. It was things like this that made him think. Somehow, Kiyoshi knew that he would find himself forgiving the masked man within the next day or so, though it would be ages before he stopped mourning his sister.
The map proved to have useful information. The x's that were marked "collapsed" must have been indicating the tunnels that the demons had torn down. Now Kiyoshi began to wonder about the demons. Why did they act the way they did? Was it their nature? Or was there some sort of incentive. He couldn't know unless he talked to one. The only problem with that was the fact that he had been ordered to kill any and all demons on sight. Kiyoshi wasn't sure he could do that. He wasn't sure he was capable of killing, even if his very life depended on it. ... Captain Salnesh Of the Gray Militia Salnesh looked over the people of the party, nodding slowly and realizing that they understood their duties perfectly. She held out her hand to the gates and spoke. "Very well. You are dismissed... Be wary. There are things outside the city far worse than you've seen thus far..."
She stood straight and saluted. "You are dismissed." She would watch them leaving the city, furrowing her brows and noting that this may be the last she sees of the outsiders... Though this was no different than almost anyone who went into the wastes. She watched the gates... She hoped that the people sent out would remember the cost of living in such a desolate, hellish region of the world.

Jaden Halim Thoughts I have to share. ' What to do? ' How it is I feel. ' Alarmed ' My location for you to know. ' Streets. ' Stand beside me if you dare. ' --- ' Jaden was woken up by the sound of heavy footsteps rushing around the city. He has passed out for the night and now was woken up by this loud sound. He couldn't really recall right away why he was in the ally way. The squeaking of rats was annoying and the smell of damp trash filled his nose. Jaden stood up. He shook out his thick fur from water and dirt that was in it. The sound of people speaking and the citizens walking around was some thing he was used to. But when the heavy footsteps entered the ally he was in he jumped. His bright blue eyes flashed over to the man. then to the other end. With dirt flying into the air as well as water Jaden dashed out of the Ally. His paws hitting the ground in a even rhythm.
Jaden wasn't sure what to do. To try to lose them in the city. But they would find him again. After all he wasn't your ordinary puppy that lived inside someones home. Jaden had to think and he had to think quickly. What was he going to do. After all he did scare most children. In the push he could only guess that there were more men looking for him also. Jaden rushed into the crowd of people. They moved aside away from him to get out of his way. Some screamed in fight others in surprise. Obviously he wasn't going to be able to sneak around the city. The only way to live would have to be outside of the city. But how would he be able to get out? Jaden slowed down. He was still being chased he could only guess. Jaden could see the gates in front of him. But they were closing in fast. What was he going to do. If he were to hurt anyone in order to get out... Well he would be hurting himself as well. The Gray Militia The Sergeant continued leading the Alpha Squadron throughout the city limits, looking for that mysterious wolf-thing... Even if it wasn't a Demon, they had to drive it out. They then heard the clicking of claws from paws tapping on the floor... The Sergeant led his men in the direction it sounded like it was coming from, each of their footsteps clapping across the ground. He then held out his sword, yelling instructions to his troops.
"Concentrate Scouters..." The other men drew bows, though these bows appeared to have no arrows. Drawing the bowstring back, the men aimed in every other direction, waiting for their sergeant's orders.
"Fire!" The men released the bows, teal energy beams shooting out and bursting into dust when they hit the walls... While they appeared to do no real damage to the wall, if they were successful, they'd follow the track of a Demonic Creature nearby... The track beginning to settle in the form of glowing, blue dust, the Sergeant led his men through the alleyway, following the dust while keeping his head up... He wasn't sure what this Demon was up to, or whatever it was, but he wasn't going to let any civilians die finding out.

In the dark, a horror sounds The devil comes to do his rounds If you live to expectation He'll grant you regeneration... Akumi Jino Your Evil Calls --------------------------- The nothingness stretched on forever, and Akumi floated there, waiting for something, anything to occur. Then she saw it. It began as a small reddish dot below her. Well, it seemd as though it was below her, but she couldn't really tell. The glow slowly grew until the source of the vermillion light was clear. There were flames, and they were rising towards her. As they approached, Akumi could feel their heat embracing her. As the flames grew, so did the warmth. The fire swirled around, rising and becoming greater in size. Soon, the flames were licking Akumi's body, and the warmth had reached an uncomfortable level. Almost painful. Akumi could feel it burning through her whole body. All she could see now was fire. Endless amounts of fire. She tried to scream out, but the roaring fire drowned out her cries. The pain stretched on for what felt like hours, and then, it began to fade. s the flames slowly faded, Akumi realized that she was in a familiar place. She was in a tunnel. Down further in the tunnel, she could see a fiery light. "Am I to assume that the gates of Hell are ready to devour my soul?" Akumi asked, smiling. She had barely finished her question when her reply arrived in a voice that was high yet low, furious yet ecstatic. "In any other case, they would." "What do you mean?" "It seems that some sort of artifact has given you a third chance." "Artifact? As in my half of the mask? I wasn't wearing it." "You are now" Akumi was confused. Someone had placed the mask on her face.Who would have done that? She didn't think about it too hard, though. It was a time like this where Akumi knew that when something good happens, one does not question it.
Slowly, Akumi eyes opened. She was laying in a room similar to the one she had awoken in before. Once again, it felt like her trip to the gates of hell was just a dream. However, she once again was able to confirm that it was real. There was half a mask sitting on her face. The back of her neck and a section of her hair seemd to have dried blood crusted on them. Akumi stood up, and looked at the room. There were small blood puddles on the floor, and it took Akumi a moment to realize that they belonged to her. Akumi walked up to the mirror in the room, and saw that her eyes were still blue. Her disguise was still present, and therefore, she could pass as a human. She washed up, and left the room. Casually, she took note of the door number, and then walked down the stairs, and out of the building into the city. She took a breath of the air, and it seemed old, and stale. Shrugging it off, Akumi began to meander about in the city. ... Bestow on them the devil's kiss Let them dine on evil bliss Go out now to serve the fire The devil's daughter is desire {{Edited to fix format error}}

"Shinobi" XXX XXX XXX XXX静かな戦士"the Silent Warrior" They were upon the road to Tnepolis. Their towers and the gate loomed ominously above them, as they continued through the wastes toward the city. Narinthe had his mind wrapped around the idea of writing the report. His suspicion was felt by Sefas--that was not a weak creature, not in the least bit. The fact that it fled was another matter, almost more alarming to him that it's appearance. It could be mounting an attack upon Tenepolis-- Salnesh needed to know if a Djinn's presence. In his daze, he did not pay attention to Neysa's words towards Kiyoshi. His head turned upward to peer upon the high gates as they arrived. They could not see within the city, their vision blocked by the towering gates made of Enferantite. Sarcastically, he knocked upon the gates as if a door--not as if he couldn't get in already with his power.. But it seemed to grab the guards' attentions that were posted inside the towers upon either side of the gates. A voice screamed down from the right most one, "Yer tha team the Captain sent out earlier! Back so soon?" The voice paused, before it seemed to be directed to another being. "Well, let them in!"His eye narrowed slightly at the man's words, almost as if it was mocking. It was true, they ran into trouble very early on, without even finishing that tunnel. Salnesh wasn't going to be happy at first, but he was sure that her mood would worsen upon the report he'd give her.
Creaking sounded as the gates slowly began to open. The city came more into view, as they could now enter. He looked back at the rest, before entering. He needed to get some parchment and ink to write his report for Galnesh. He stepped inside, his eye dancing about. He knew his way to the to the Barracks, but he needed to get such items first. Perhaps Salnesh would offer some if he requested, but he felt it more polite to get it himself.
His eye spotted a merchant, but he held himself back. Salnesh would need to see him first, to know he was still there. So, he began toward the Militia headquarters.

When you die, you are complete When you live you must compete Can the light outway the dark Can you go and leave your mark... Kiyoshi Jino Your Prayers are heard --------------------------- The creaking of the black gates instantly caught Kiyoshi's attention. He was back in the comfort of Tenepolis. Perhaps it wasn't very safe, but it felt comforting to be there. Kiyoshi smiled. Why he smiled was beyond him, but he smiled anyways. Then something hit him. It was that feeling he had when he was walking to the ebon fields. The feeling of something big happening. He didn't know why. But it bothered him. The encounter with the prospector had drawn away Kiyoshi's attention from that odd feeling, but now Kiyoshi had all his focus on it. What could have happened to make Kiyoshi feel that way. Was it good, or bad? Kiyoshi didn't want it to be bad. Bad events could cause horrible things to follow, and that couldn't possibly be good. Kiyoshi was worried.
Kiyoshi wanted to reply to Neysa, but that odd feeling had gotten the better of him. He broke out into a sprint. He once again looked like a normal human, so he had to run, and remember the way to the living area. Kiyoshi ran as fast as he could. It had hit him why he felt odd. He had left Akumi's body unattended in his room. Something told him he needed to check on the body before it went missing, or was discovered by someone. ...
