Rae woke up to the delicious feeling of Alex's fangs at her throat. She had a second to let a happy sigh escape her before Alex spoke. ”A beautiful night it will be, since we'll spend it together.” Rae's smile turned a little mischievous. “But first, I'm oh so hungry.” She flashed her fangs at him before she gently kissed his throat and bit into his neck.

Rae drank her fill, savouring the best tasting thing she'd ever consumed in her life, then, when she was satisfied, she leaned over and kissed the man she loved, a little of his blood still on her lips. She was just deciding whether or not she was too full for a wake up romp when she felt the mental tug in her mind. Thinking it was Alex with one of his romantic comments she loved so much, she opened up her mind willingly. Instead of sweet nothings, she got Alaric, informing them they were needed in HQ. They had ten minutes to get dressed and take care of any other necessities, then they were to report to his office for a briefing.

Rae sighed as she felt Alaric withdraw his mental presence. So much for a wake up romp. Rae relayed the message to Alex, and pouted a little before vaulting out of their coffin and grabbing clothes to change in to. She scraped her hair back into a ponytail after she got dressed, and brushed her teeth. When she was done, she signalled to Alex that she was ready. He held out his arm to her, and she took it, kissing his cheek before the world dropped out from under her.

Alaric gave the pair the barest of nods as they appeared in his office. He steepled his fingers in his customary manner, and explained. “It seems there's a human poking his nose around in the supernatural community. An immortality quester.” He noticed Rae's questioning look, while Alex's brow furrowed. “An immortality quester is a human being looking for the key to becoming immortal. Those who accept the existence of beings such as ourselves -” Alaric barely repressed a shudder at the thought that Rae was now “one of them” - “often come around, trying to find out information about how to become like us. And, even more unfortunate, some are even intelligent enough to find a way to us. Like this one.” He went on to explain that this particular immortality quester had come poking around HQ, and Alaric wanted the two of them to get rid of this guy before he found someone who would give him what he wanted. “Are we clear?” Alaric fixed Rae with a hard glare. “I don't care how, just do it.” And with that, Alaric waved the two out of his office, the doors swinging shut softly behind them.

Rae looked up at Alex as they entered the hallway. “Alright, now what? Should we go after him? He's just a human, and he's looking for us, so he shouldn't be too much trouble to find.” Rae smiled. “It's a nice change, for once.”

Alex sighed, another immortality seeker, Alex never liked them. Alex smiled at Rae and said, "Well, they may be human, but never forget that up until a few days ago, you were too, and you've killed your share of vampires. As for what we do, Alaric said he'd been snooping around here, only a matter of time before we find him, right?" Alex continued to walk with her, to the elevator. Alex had a plan, and if this immortality seeker was as intelligent as Alaric said he was, it was going to work. He turned to Rae while in the elevator and said, "Rae, my dear. How would you like to go for a walk?" Alex smiled deviously, indicating he had a plan.

As Alex walked down the street with his arm around Rae walking in the general direction of his apartment. He sighed and thought a message to Rae, "He's probably following us right now, watch for any movement, but if you see any, don't let on that you know he's there." He leaned over and kissed the top of Rae's head when he bumped into someone. Before he could apologize, he heard a woman's voice that he immediately recognized,
"Rae!? Is that you?! Where have you been? Me and the girls haven't heard a word from you since you and your boyfriend disappeared. Literally." The girl looked up at Alex for a moment, then back to Rae, then back to Alex, then back to Rae, put her hands on her hips and gave Rae a look that said, "Explain!"

Rae's fangs had slid out defensively over her lip as someone bumped into Alex. She cut her lip on her fangs in her hurry to hide them from Jess. Thankfully, they retracted in time for her to speak. “Jess! Um....yeah, sorry about that.” She said, desperately trying not to shot Alex desperate looks “Well, you know how work is. Whenever they call me it's an emergency, and Alex offered to get a cab for me....” Rae took a deep breath. “I'm sorry I haven't been around more, Jess, I really am. But what are you doing out here by yourself? It's an empty parking lot, at night...”

“God, you sound like my mother. This is the fastest way back to my place.” Jess rolled her eyes at Alex, smiling playfully. “But, now I don't have to worry about walking through the big, dark and scary parking lot all by myself. I have you two here to protect me.” Jess turned on her mega-watt smile, the one no one could refuse. Rae looked quickly to Alex and took a deep breath. “It won't take long, love. We can walk her home and keep an eye out for the immortality quester on the way. I don't want her walking alone out here, not with that psycho on the loose...” Alex nodded slightly, and Jess fell into step beside them, chattering away in her usual fashion. Rae supplied the required “Really?”s and “Oh yeah?”s at appropriate intervals all the while watching and listening for any sound out of the ordinary.

Rae could see the street lamps in the distance, and couldn't help but feel relieved. Jess was her best friend in the world, and Rae would never dream of hurting her, but every once and a while Rae would catch herself focusing on the sound of Jess's heartbeat, the smell of fresh, warm blood coursing through her veins....Rae gave her head a mental shake. “Focus on the bad guy, Rae. Get Jess home safe, and then we can find this b*****d.” Jess made a squeaking noise – the one she always made when she was startled, most commonly heard during horror movies or if a mouse found it's way into her apartment – and Rae turned to her with a smile, about to gently chastise her for her fear of mice, when she realized that Jess had been startled for a legitimate reason.

For the second time in that parking garage, Rae's fangs slid out. She kept her mouth shut, but barely. The man was only slightly taller than Jess's 5'5”, a balding, portly man who would fit right in with any office crowd. He held a rag to Jess's mouth, and was having a hard time holding her dead weight up. Rae inhaled through her nose - Chloroform. – and had to choke back a growl. Remembering where she was, Rae clutched Alex's arm and tried to do her best damsel in distress impression. “Please, don't hurt her! You can have whatever money is in my purse. Take it, it's yours.” The man huffed a laugh, struggling under Jess's weight.
“Oh please, you can drop the act. I know what you two are. Vampires.” The man had tried to spit the word, more of an accusation than anything, but his voice filled with awe, and “vampire” took on an almost revered quality.

”What do you want? If you think we're vampires you have to know we could kill you right now and have the girl back with us in less than thirty seconds.” Rae spoke in a tightly controlled voice, letting her rage simmering just below the surface creep into the threat. The man holding Jess paled slightly before drawing himself up to his full height, revealing the hand not holding the cloth and pressing a gun to Jess's head.
“I wouldn't recommend that if I were you, miss. I'm not normally one to make threats, but you have something I want, and I'm really not keen on being without it, so I could probably justify putting a bullet through your friend here.” He gestured with the weapon, but never once took his eyes from Rae and Alex. “If you ever want to see your friend alive again, you will not follow me. You will wait for me to make contact with you, and you will show up at the designated meeting place alone. Just the two of you. And you will give me what I want, or your friend here dies.” He began to back up slowly, half dragging Jess along with him. There was a brief struggle before he managed to get the car door open and stuff her unceremoniously inside. Rae tensed as the man was forced to move away from Jess, but Alex's hand on her arm and a slight shake of his head kept her still. They watched silently as the man got into his car and peeled off into the night, leaving Alex and Rae alone in the parking garage.

“Alex, we have to get her back. It's my fault she's in this mess. If she hadn't been walking with us, if I hadn't said we'd take her home...” Rae's sentence trailed off as she bit her cheek in frustration, tasting blood. “Did you get a good look at the licence plates? We have to find out who he is. We can't let him hurt her.” Rae's eyes hardened into a determined glare. She would get her friend back – alive – no matter what the cost.

Alex's eyes narrowed when the man made his entrance. He never liked immortality seekers on their best days, but this one, this one simply made him sick. He was going to have a long chat with him about this if he could, before he let Rae rip him to shreds. He growled lightly, his fangs sliding out over his lips. He didn't care whether or not the human girl saw him or not. He watched the man as he moved to the car, growling even more audibly at his words. When the seeker drove away, Alex noticed he was biting into his lip rather hard, not only causing a huge gas, but nearly ripping his lip in two. He let the wound heal, still staring in the direction the seeker left them. He turned to Rae when she spoke, frowned and shook his head, saying, "I did Rae, but we can't just follow him. He's more likely to kill her if we do... For now, we'll have to... comply with his demands." Alex's hand clenched into a fist and quivered with rage when he said this. He put his hand on Rae's shoulder, and said, "Rest assured, we WILL get her back alive. Damned immortality seekers..." Alex spit on the ground and growled again. He motioned for Rae to hold on, and he teleported them back to his apartment.

A day passed without so much as a peep from the seeker, Alex waited by the phone, listening for it or someone trying to open a mind link with him. Rae simply paced nearby, Alex knew she was worried, and until she ripped the seeker to shreds, she wouldn't be satisfied. Alex looked back to the phone, wishing it would ring, when it did. Within the blink of an eye, Alex answered. After staying silent for a few moments, Alex set the phone down and said to Rae, "He wants to meet us at the motel on Fleet Street, room number 6... Rae, when we see him, I want to have a word with him." Alex extended a hand to her and they teleported to the parking lot of the motel. Alex moved to the door for room number six and knocked three times. Alex opened the door and walked in, Rae behind him and she shut the door loudly. Alex's keen sense of smell picked up two other people in the room. He looked around in the dark, his eyes seeing as though it was day outside. He noticed the man, standing next to a chair where Jess was sitting, still unconscious, the smell of chloroform still wavering in the air around her,but she wasn't unconscious, she was merely tied up and her mouth duct taped.

Alex growled, "Okay, we're here, what do you want?" The seeker chuckled and said,
"Oh, I think you both are smart enough to know what I want. I want you to turn me, into a vampire, into one of you. A creature of the night, living forever and feeding on the blood of humans." Alex's eyes narrowed, his ruby red gaze looking into the man and he said, angrily, "I'll give you only one chance, to call all of this off and walk away. Let me explain something to you. Immortality, becoming one of us, is earned not given. It is an honor and a privilege to become one of us, not some easily obtained ransom you get for holding someone hostage!"Alex growled and glared at the man, who stood and stared, in awe of the power Alex's voice commanded, but he quickly shook this off. He laughed gruffly back and said, "I think I've earned it! I found out about your existence, tracked the two of you down and got the both of you to come here! What else do I need to do?! Now if you want this girl to stay alive, you'll do as I say! Turn me... into one of YOU!" Alex once again glared at the man as he pointed a gun at Jess, none of the immortality seekers he met ever deserved such a thing, always such selfish intentions. Growling again, he relaxed his expression and nodded to Rae, thinking a message to her, saying, "Do whatever you have to do to get Jess out of there safely. If you do turn him, we'll take care of him later, masters can always sense where their servants are." He looked back to Jess who looked at the both of them, wide-eyed and scared out of her mind. She stared at Rae for what seemed like the longest time, the man had called the both of them vampires, was Rae really a bloodsucker? Alex she could understand, he was a little... eccentric, but Rae?

“Alex, we can't let her know we're vampires. We have to do whatever we can not to expose ourselves. Jess is a smart girl, she'll think we're just playing along in order to keep her safe. Please.” Rae added a pleading note to her voice. She didn't want Jess to find out, and if she did, Rae didn't want it to be like this. Rae locked eyes with Jess, trying to silently convey that everything would be alright.

Rae and Alex stared the man down, and when neither of them moved to change him, his eyes narrowed in fury.
“Fine, if you won't help me....I didn't want to have to do this, but I hope you know you're forcing my hand.” The man moved quickly, slicing the blade he had kept hidden in the hand not holding the gun against Jess's cheek. Rae flinched as Jess gasped, blood welling to the surface. Rae's nostrils flared and her pupils dilated as the smell of Jess's blood reached her nose, a wave of thirst slamming into her. She fought back a snarl and focused on making her chest rise and fall normally, the way she would if she needed to breathe. Jess was her best friend. She would not hurt her. Would not. No matter how thirsty she was. Rae raised her chin at the man. “Too bad that plan didn't work.” she thought “I would never hurt one of my friends.” At that thought, an idea struck her, and she thought to Alex “I don't think this guy knows who we are. He just got our names from someone. Otherwise he'd know I'd never hurt one of my friends, and he'd know you'd been around too long to still be tempted.” Rae hated the idea that she was tempted, even though Jess was in no danger from her.

As if the man had heard her thoughts, he began to chuckle, drowning out the whimpering noises coming from Jess, and the situation when from bad to worse.
“Of course, how silly of me. You wouldn't want to feed off your friend. And besides, it's not her I want you to change...” The man's eyes went round with fear and excitement as he raised the blade over his wrist and closed his eyes and took a deep breath as he slashed the knife down. He cried out as his blood flowed, panting large gulps of air. The man began to laugh as Rae started forward, her fangs sliding out to their full length in her mouth, her pupils completely dilating as her instincts kicked in, propelling her toward the scent of the blood flowing from his wrist.

Alex laid a hand on Rae's arms, opening the mind link and speaking quickly, while the man's eyes flashed.
“Rae, love, you're going to have to turn him. I'll take care of Jess, you just keep him busy.” Alex let go of Rae's arm, his message barely entering into her consciousness. Rae advanced slowly on the man, her lips parting slightly as her fangs extended down over her lip, emerald green eyes sparkling. “So, you want to be a vampire, one of the immortal.” Rae's voice had gone husky, her desire for blood seeping into her voice. She gently grabbed his bloody wrist, licking the blood and causing the cut to close. Her eyes dilated further, her pupils mere slits. She shivered in anticipation of a meal, with her mind completely run by her instincts. The man watched her, wide-eyed in awe. “This will hurt, a little.” She said, showing him her fangs for the first time. The man squeaked, but remained still. Rae stepped right up to him, a few inches taller than him, she'd have to bend slightly to reach his neck. “But only for a moment, I promise.” Without giving the man a chance to back out, Rae sunk her teeth into his neck, drinking in his delicious warm life blood. She pulled him against her as her eyes opened wider. Alex tasted better, but for now, this silly human would do. She ignored the noises coming from this human, and continued to drink from him as his protests became weaker and weaker, concentrating only on getting Jess home safely, and then going back with Alex....

Alex watched as Rae bit into the man, draining his blood and distracting him so he could free Jess. Alex quickly moved in between the seeker and Jess, reaching around behind her and undoing her bindings. He put a hand on her shoulder and felt her shrink away from him, he looked her dead in the yes and said, "It's alright, I'm here to help you. I'm not going to harm you." Alex placed his hand over Jess's wound and healed her before helping her out of the chair. Jess looked at Rae, who was still draining the seeker with a frightened expression; her best friend was a vampire, it was understandably frightening. As Alex led her out of the room and took the tape away from her mouth, Jess looked up at him, and said, frightened and unsure of herself, "Am I... gonna be killed... for seeing this" Alex smiled kindly and shook his head.

He looked at Jess and raised a finger to her cheek, where a trail of blood still remained from her healed wound. He wiped the blood away, and stuck the finger in his mouth, tasting her blood. He smiled again and said, "You have a good heart. Your blood runs pure. Any friend of Rae's is a friend of mine. As for Rae..." Alex looked back inside the room, then back to Jess, before saying, "I'll explain everything later. I hope you don't mind if I ask you to accompany me and Rae back to our apartment for some dinner." He smiled and turned to walk back inside the room; whether Jess was there or not when they left would determine whether or not Jess accepted what had happened. If she stayed, there was no problem, if she left, they would have to wipe her memory.

When Alex walked back inside, he saw Rae was still standing next to the seeker, still draining his blood from the looks of it. Alex sighed and walked over, setting a gentle hand on Rae's shoulder and pulling her away from the man before seeing that he was already dead. Alex pulled out a pistol, put it to the man's forehead, and fired, blowing his head away with a loud bang. Alex pulled his phone out and dialed Alaric, "We're clear, mission accomplished, target eliminated. Send a cleanup crew to my location." Alex hung up the phone and looked at Rae, who still had blood on her face. He wiped it away and kissed her deeply, she looked so beautiful while she was draining the man, it was all he could do to keep from getting her out of her clothes right then and there. He smiled and said, "We have some explaining to give to your friend Jess... I invited her to dinner." Alex gestured for Rae to leave the room first, smiling as she walked in front of him.

Rae shook her head to clear the blood lust still burning inside her, Alex's kiss doing a better job that any head shake, replacing her blood lust with a different kind of lust. She grumbled at Alex's suggestion, knowing he was right but much preferring the alternative as she stepped in front of him and led the way outside. The cold night air helped to clear Rae's mind, and she found herself eagerly scanning the small balcony/walkway outside the dead mans room, searching for her best friend. Rae breathed an internal sigh of relief when she saw Jess was standing just outside the door, her back against the wall.

Rae saw Jess take a deep breath and let it out slowly, then carefully look up to search Rae's face. Rae stood perfectly still, not even breathing as Jess looked her over, Rae's face remaining as expressionless as she could make it. Finally, after what felt like forever, Jess's face broke into a grin.
"You could have just told me, you know!" Jess explained, throwing her hands up in exasperation. "I mean seriously, if you can't tell your best friend, who can you tell?" Rae smiled tentatively. "I didn't want you to think I was a freak, to hate me, for what I am, for what I drink...." Rae held Jess's gaze, and was happy to see a smile on her friends face."I know you, Rae. I know you wouldn't hurt a fly unless it tried to kill you or someone you love. I also know you wouldn't kill an innocent person because you're hungry. I mean, I even have proof of that now!" Jess laughed.

"So that means Alex is a vampire too. That's so cool you guys?! What can you do? What's it like being a vampire? Can you guys change into bats or something? I knew there was something different about you, Alex!" Rae smiled, relieved, and looked from her best friend to her lover. "I promise, Alex and I will answer every question you have. But first, we should probably get out of here. The clean up crew will be here any moment. Alex, love?" Rae asked, arching a brow, "How should we get home? Walk back, normal transportation, or teleport? She already knows what we are.... Rae let her sentence trail and left it for Alex to decide.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 17, 2011 7:22 pm

Alex smiled as he watched Jess and Rae converse, it made Alex happy that Jess was so accepting of Rae and him and what they were. At Jess's comment about changing into bats Alex chuckled, wrapping his arm around Rae and placing a hand on Jess's shoulder. He blinked and they were now in his apartment, Jess moved over to the sink and almost lost her lunch. Alex sighed and said, "Sorry about that, the ride is a bit rough when you're human... Well, when your stomach quiets, come and take a seat in the dining room, Rae and I can explain everything." Alex led Rae into the dining room and sat down in a chair next to hers, looking at her, he smiled and said, so Jess wouldn't hear, "We can tell her almost everything... but the one thing we can't do, is tell her more than a few simple facts about the organization. We can let her know it exists, and the missions we go on, but other than that, we can't say anything about it." Alex looked up and smiled as Jess walked into the room and sat down opposite the both of them, staring expectantly at Alex.

Alex sighed and started to explain, "Alright... I'm a vampire, I'm 407 turning 408 next month. We vampires can live forever, but there's no such thing as true immortality, we can still die from the sun and silver and such. I met Rae three years ago, we were partners... we're basically cops for the supernatural. Werewolves, demons, witches, all of it is real. here's our tag-line; 'There are things that go bump in the night, we are the ones who bump back.'" Alex chuckled he looked to Rae and leaned over and whispered something in her ear; it was simply nonsense, but he instead transmitted a thought to Rae's mind, "She can't know we can speak telepathically yet, we'll open a mind link for her before she leaves. We need to take things one step at a time so as to not overwhelm her." Alex kissed Rae on the cheek then turned back to Jess, smiling, and saying, "Of course... we were only just partners up until about a week or two ago... then we went to dinner... But enough about us. What are some questions that you have for us?" Alex smiled again, snapping his fingers and conjuring a bottle of blood-wine for him and Rae and a bottle of regular wine for Jess. Alex stood, and motioned for the two of them to continue, saying, "I'll be right back, I'm going to get us some dinner. You can continue speaking, I'll hear you, don't worry." Alex stepped into the kitchen and snapped his fingers again, conjuring a few pans and such to their places on the stove, he walked to the fridge and began preparing a quick dinner.

Jess looked at Rae and grinned."This is so cool Rae! All of those things you read about in books are real. I mean, vampires, witches, werewolves....Have you ever met a werewolf?!" Rae laughed at Jess's enthusiasm. "Not yet. Although I'm not sure I'd want to. We don't tend to meet the most friendly of the supernaturals, in our line of work."

Jess nodded.
"Oh right...I guess that makes sense. I knew you'd still be a good guy....girl. I uh....I must smell pretty good to you, huh?"Rae smiled a small smile. "Yeah, but I'm getting better at controlling it. I don't have nearly the amount of practice Alex does, but it's easier with people I know, people I care about. I...I'm sorry Jess...about what you saw back there...I..." Rae stopped as Jess put a hand on her arm."It's okay, Rae. I know you were just protecting me." Jess smiled and looked around the room. "This isn't much of a crypt...I guess you can't believe everything you see on TV. I guess you guys don't sleep in coffins either...?"

Alex walked back into the room carrying three plates of amazing looking food, just in time to catch Jess's remark about how she smelled, to which he replied, setting the plates down on the table, "Delicious actually, but to be honest, not nearly as good as Rae." Alex sat down at the table and chuckled at Jess's coffin comment. Alex smiled at her and replied, "Actually yes, we do. We sleep in my coffin in the bedroom. No crypt needed. And believe it or not, it's quite comfortable in there. And of course, my coffin fits two." Alex looked towards Rae and kissed her on the cheek, before turning back to Jess and smiling. Alex sighed and said, "You know, it's surprising, normally people take the whole 'supernatural is real' thing a bit worse... you seem to be okay with it. I already added the blood to the food Rae, so you can go ahead and eat." Alex looked to Jess again, smiling again and saying, "Well, your food doesn't have any blood I mean. Blood just makes regular food go down easier for vampires, there's only a few foods we can eat easily without blood. One is the person's favorite food, makes transitioning easier, and the other is most fruits... oh, speaking of fruits." Alex disappeared from his chair and a few seconds later came out of the kitchen with his fruit bat on his arm and a ripe peach in his hand. He sat back down and set the peach down on the table, to which Vincent replied by skittering down Alex's arm and clinging to the peach. Alex smiled as he watched his pet and said, "Jess, meet Vincent, he's an Egyptian fruit bat. Say hello Vincent." Vincent released his teeth from the peach, looked at Jess with his head cocked slightly to the side and squeaked lightly before going back to his food. Alex laughed lightly and said, "A real dinner with friends... I haven't had one of these in over one hundred years... Last time was when I had dinner with Lincoln... the man knew how to party... shame about that vampire hunter John Wilkes Booth..."
