deaf_by_music cheatar1 I remember introducing Dir en Grey to each of my friends, who now all ove them. Every one of them thought they were girls, and I had to remind them over and over. Same with Miyavi. But, as my one friend put it, "Miyavi makes a cool guy and a hot girl..." Anyways, I am Visual Kei, or atleast I'm going to be...I have some of the stuff. I will be so in my current band and on. I have also said, many times, that if anyone calls me a tranny, drag queen, or gay (no offence to anybody) I will kick their a**. I am totally into Visual kei, and I love everything about it and everybody who does it! ( * 0*) You're in a VK band? Nice. What style of rock? Where are you based? (sorry Vampy if this isn't legal n__n;; ) Why wouldn't it be allowed? Silly Hiro-kun. xD Though, I'd prefer you guys to discuss it here. ^^; Anyway. Back on topic. I'm also fairly certain that the Western idea of "masculine" is a lot different from the Eastern idea of "masculine", so its easier for J-Rockers to dress "feminine" and not be considered weird. Plus, like Sai-kun said, crossdressing in performance goes back many many years in traditional theater, so it's not anything new.

Still though, if the guy crossdressing is obviously a guy....then yeah...some people might find it wierd unless the guy is doing it for fun or has some comical meaning behind it (like game shows or summat XDD)
I know for Zatoichi, Beat Takeshi version, the brother of the geisha(who him self is one) looks like a girl without people suspecting it.
My ideas...=P

Ok so awhile ago I had a picture of miyavi in the shower (showing his nipples) and another with him in bondage all tied up. I saved them to my computer to send them to a friend cause when I would link her it wouldn't work. So after I sent them,I deleted them. One of my mom's bf's friends was on our computer. Him and jay (mom's bf) were all around the computer earlier that day. So before he left he said "I don't care if you look at naked japanese girls sarah" and me and my mom said "WHAT?" and I was like "huh?" so as he was walking out the door he said "Just look in on your computer recycle bin" so I was looking in the recycle bin when I saw the picture of miyavi and BUSTED out of laughing so my mom was like "What?" and I said 'That wasn't a GIRL that was a GUY,and you can only see his nipples." so she looked at it and laughed. When jay walked into the room I said "So did you think that girl was really hot?" and he said "Yeah she was hot" and I said "Too bad that girl was a BOY" So he freaked out and was like 'WHAT THATS NOT A GUY!" so I showed him a musik video of miyavi. And he was like "Omg thats a man" and I showed all of it to jay's friend as well. razz I still laugh when I see those pictures of miyavi in the shower razz

A little while back one of my guy friends that doesn't listen to jrock or know much about it came over to my house for a bit. We headed up to my room. I have a poster of Wizard and D on my wall. He sits down and takes a brief glance at the poster and says that they are cute girls. I mention to him that they're guys. He goes and says that they're cute for guys. lol I let him look through one of my SHOXX magazines and he kept trying to guess who was a guy and who was a girl. I kept telling him that everyone in the magazine were guys. *sigh* I probably should've fueled the fire before I doused it. XD

Some of my friends, still don't believe me when I tell them that all the Dir En Grey pictures are actually the same people, from past to present.. They refuse to believe Shinya is a guy..
When I bring pictures of Malice Mizer, they refuse to believe Mana is a guy..
Why must most of my friends, be total dumb.. Nevermind.. =3

I like to show all these pictures of effeminate J-rockers, then just to mess with 'em I give them a picture of DangerGang.
Man: ... are those guys too...? Me: Nope, girls this time. Man: ... That doesn't turn me on anymore... *shudder*

Man: ... are those guys too...? Me: Nope, girls this time. Man: ... That doesn't turn me on anymore... *shudder* It's kinda sad that its even an issue in the states. Im actually doing my final paper on VK and conceptions of gender identity. I think people just need to chill and get over their bad selves. Looking at a picture and thinking the person be it female or male or intersexed or what not and appreciating it for being attractive for any number of reasons, maybe their hair is nice, or their makeup, or the costume is cool, or the photography is excellent, or what not is not going to magically change anything about the on looker. If someone fears that looking at a jrocker might make them suddenly gay because thye had a passing thought that they were attractive, or worse, that the very concept that a guy would EVER look like that is automatically repulsive for no other reason than a conservative knee jerk reaction that they themselves don't even understand, then its obvious that individual is not very knowledgeaeble about their own identity or secure in it.

That's a quite beautiful point made. If everyone could understand it, the world would be nice (and we'd probably all classify as bisexual...)

Appearance or even behavior doesn't necessitate one's identity, ne?
