Even though Elliot had seen much worse after sharing a room with three other girls, and living with River, who had little consideration for what was appropriate behavior in front of guests, she had to feel for Zhi a little bit. She had known the girl long enough to at least get a vague glimpse into the way her brain worked, and so she wasn't surprised at all to see the look on her friend's face as her sister exposed an extra inch of skin.
She had fallen into observing Elliot mode, which she did quite often, and was on her way to becoming completely absorbed in her own thoughts as she watched two of her favorite people do a bizarre back-and-forth series of interactions. It was like a dance. A clumsy, one-sided, clueless dance. That's why it took her a moment to realize that Zhi was speaking to her, and by the time she fully emerged from her mind, she had completely missed the question. It didn't seem to be important, as Zhi continued on. "Oh.... Okay. I'll help you out. Though I don't know how..." Her eyebrows twitched towards each other for a brief moment. Why would Zhi need her help? She had just assumed she would want her out for as long as possible. Unless... "You have something planned? What?" she asked. She tried not to feel skeptical. Zhi was a nice girl, and was interested by her romantic side, but really, River was dense, and the best form of action was not some elaborate set up, but to just tell her bluntly. Elliot was neglecting to let that bit of information reach Zhi, not out of malice on her part, but because she just had failed to realize that it was helpful.
Meanwhile, River hurried up to her room, humming a small song, off key of course, to herself. She stripped off her uniform, digging through a messy closet in search of something more casual. Of course, she was going at her own pace, with little thought towards being quick and prompt, and so several long moments would pass between Elliot's question and the moment when she bounded down the stairs, out of her skirt and pantyhose and into a pair of jeans, cheerfully bouncing into the living room. "Sorry for the wait~ Have you decided where you want to go?"

“Good! Thank you, Elliot! Just keep an eye on your phone for my call! I'll tell you then.” Zhi said happily as she heard that confirmation, though she didn't think Elliot could answer otherwise; what else would the redhead have to do? She was out of school and Zhi didn't imagine a job at the circus required much research. She idly went over the plan again.. and again.. and again in her head as she replied casually to Elliot's question, missing the girl's skepticism as her eyes wandered to the stairs to watch for River to come back down in probably something cute, short, tight, and flirty~ ...Well, hopefully. “Oh, we're only going to walk around the town a bit. You and I can do the same later, but only as friends.” Just in case Elliot wanted to do the same – she doubted she was jealous or anything, but it would be nice to hang out with Elliot sometime.
She looked back at Elliot with that thought and smiled in a friendly manner, “Do you–?” Before she finished, she cut herself off as River came bouncing back down the stairs, standing and turning around to look at the woman – in her jeans. She hid her disappointment, but... River looked good in anything anyway! She rounded the couch and went to stand near the woman, pushing any of her anxiety away in favor of a showy smile, “Yes! We can go window shop a bit in town. There's a clothing store I wanted to look at.” She turned to the door and gave a glance to Elliot for a change, “You know my cell number, Elliot, if you want anything, call me.” She gave a quick wink at that emphasis and then stepped her way to the door, holding it open for River as she went to start a light conversation for the walk over, “Do you like clothes very much, River?”

Elliot really wasn't the shopping type, mainly because her tastes in clothes were boring at best. Practically her entire wardrobe was varying shades of gray. Sure, she didn't have to look like an old widow all of the time, and even so, there were ways of beings fashionable even with very boring colors, but there was something about shopping with more fashion-conscious people that made her wary. Probably had something to do with her sisters and their constant disapproval. Even though they almost had the same face, they looked good in bright and colorful things. Elliot would only tolerate it if it was a work thing. Despite all of this, she couldn't help but perk up at the invitation. Or what sounded like an invitation. "Oh, okay," she replied, just as blandly as ever, but there was a hint of interest in her voice.
Compared to Elliot, who was pleased but had the world's best poker face, River was in puppy mode yet again, almost overflowing in enthusiasm and excitement to be going. She stood in the living room for a moment, looking between the two girls cluelessly. Oh, how nice it was to be best friends~ That's when Zhi pointed out what she wanted to do. Window shopping! Once upon a time, i.e., when she was in high school, she would have assumed that that meant shopping for windows! But now she was out of the tomboyish bubble that was the gang, and so she knew things like this! It was just one more step on the road to becoming a beautiful, glamorous woman~ "Sounds like fun!" she chirped. "Baaai, Elliot! Have fun doing whatever you need to do~" she waved goodbye with an exaggerated gesture before trotting after Zhi. "Clothes? I like looking at them," she replied, as she grabbed her wallet and keys from the side table and stuffed them into her back pocket. "I have a bad habit of ripping them, though, so I can't wear pretty stuff like you do, Zhi~" The last dress she had had was the blue one she had purchased for the wedding a few years back. By the time Alex picked her up from jail, the bottom was completely shredded. By the time she got home, she had already broken a heel, and had ripped most of the skirt off, because it was getting in the way. Already, she had had to throw away three skirts from work, but Alex had told her that anymore, and she would have to pay for them from now on, and so she was being extra careful.

Oh? Zhi took a short moment as she waited by the door to imagine River in some of Zhi's clothes – and not as a part of a 'the morning after' fantasy where River had to borrow a shirt of Zhi's to work for whatever reason, letting the world know just who she was with that night~ But, if she were to wear it for serious.. It wouldn't look bad! In fact, it would be cute! Just.. somewhat weird. Honestly, Zhi always pictured River in either something revealing or more.. tomboy than a cutesy skirt – unless the situation called for it, that is. So, not bad, but something else would be much better~! “You can look good in anything, River.” She said confidently – a bit silly and maybe she'd be called out as a liar for the flatter, but, what else could she reply with? It was still River! “It's too bad you can't wear something pretty.. But, we can try on some things if they have a dressing room.” She suggested – ah~ To play dress up with River would be fun! But, first they had to get there! She waved at Elliot for a second before heading out the door after River, keeping up some light conversation on the way there to keep the other's attention.

Bela James-RameriThere, at the Park's household door, was a rather unexpected visitor. Who was it? Why, Bela James, of course! Now, considering Bela didn't know any of the members in this house at all, one would wonder how she got here or why. It seems the Town Gossips, (Gladice and Talna), were more useful than Bela could have imagined. The reason why she was here was something of a personal matter. So, without further ado, Bela took one of those standard breaths and knocked on the door. Hoping for it to just be Alex and not having to bypass anyone. It would be hard to explain the situation, and she hated repeating herself.
"It better damn be Alex," she swore under her breath, looking around in case her husband would somehow magically appear and see her here; at the door of his arch enemies' house. She only brought her wallet, which contained a few pictures of her family, and the keys of her own house. This wouldn't take long now, would it? It all depended on how good an listener this Alex Park would be. Considering Bela was who she was, this might not be as easy as she hoped; her communication skills just being all around poor. "Come on, come on...!" she urged the door to open, slamming her foot down on the ground childishly. Thank the Goddess he hadn't seen that. Impatient, she went on to knock and knock and knock until somebody answered the door. Bela was not known for being a patient woman.

It was Alex's day off, the first one in a long time. River's pestering had finally paid off, as he gave up and agreed to spend a day relaxing. He would die from exhaustion if he kept on working all day, everyday, she argued. She was more annoying than he was stubborn, so there he was, sitting alone in his house. Why was he alone? River had work, and he had sent Elliot along with her in his absence. He trusted Elliot more than he trusted River, and River and Keith running the place? That was a terrifying thought.
He had mostly been bored out of his mind. Because of work, it wasn't like he kept much in the house for quiet days at home. He was rereading a book he had read probably a dozen times before, and so when knocking at the door began, he couldn't have been more relieved to have a visitor. Most times, he'd hide in the kitchen and send a sister to deal with it, but at the moment, he was so bored, he quickly set aside his book and stood up from the chair, taking long steps over to the door. He peeked through the peep hole before opening the door, surprised to find a blonde woman he had never seen before. "...Yeah?" he greeted her curtly, looking her over curiously. She looked sort of familiar, he had probably seen her around time over the years, though that wasn't surprising at all. Most people were familiar around here. He just was curious as to what she wanted. She had a weird look on her face, though it was hard to tell if something was bothering her or if that was just how she looked. Well, there were a number of people who were probably worse than her, and honestly, Alex was just glad to have the distraction.

Bela James-RameriThe main door opened soon enough, and Bela was more than relieved that it had been Alex. He had blue hair, just like they had all said! She almost said it out loud, just because. But then she thought better of it, and ignored the pressing concern of pulling out her wallet and simply comparing right there, on the spot. "Wow. Not very verbose, are you?" she asked, not expecting an answer. So she went along. "You're Alex Park, yes?" she raised one plucked eyebrow as she asked, then again going on before he could answer. "I'm Bela James," she introduced herself, her hands coming up to her chest and daintily leaving them there.
After a beat, "May I come in?" she asked, using her hands to gesticulate and bring her words into the real world. She had a knack of moving her hands a lot as she spoke, naturally. She didn't know why that was, and just assumed it was some quirk she just shared with some of the female populace. But she was more than a little eager to get inside and out of public view, considering that one of those two gossips she had mentioned earlier might just have high tailed it and followed her here. Anything for a scoop, after all. And once more the looming fear that Xeiro, even though he was at work and a safe distance away, might just pop up. She felt guilty coming here, even though there was really not much to feel guilty about! Something just didn't bode right about being here, and Xeiro, if he ever caught wind of it, would not be pleased about her conspiring with the enemy.

Alex really needed to work on his social skills. It didn't occur to him until Bela spoke that he should have said more. If you could answer the phone with one word, couldn't you answer the door with one word? And yet here he was, feeling like he had made a mistake by not elaborating. But it was too late now, and so he just looked down at the blonde woman with furrowed eyebrows as she introduced herself. Bela James, didn't that sound familiar? Maybe not. James was a common surname, and Bela wasn't rare either (then again, his stepmother definitely had an unusual taste in names, so it wasn't like he was a particularly good judge) so he could have been thinking of someone else he had encountered in his thirty-four years. Either way, he wasn't sure if he liked this woman. She asked questions but didn't wait for an answer and had yet to explain what she was doing there. Alex may have lacked a number of manners, but he knew that most people would be wary of someone who wanted to go into their house without saying why. But Bela looked like she could hold her own, and Alex didn't feel like fighting a woman, not on his day off.
"...Sure, I guess," he answered after a moment of though, looking at her with a perplexed and questioning expression. He didn't really expect that much from her. The people on Nirvani may have been weird, but they weren't exactly that threatening or dangerous. And so even though he was bothered by his lack of knowledge of the situation, he really had no issues letting her into the house. Wasn't like they had anything valuable anyway, if that was the kind of person Bela turned out to be. And so the tall man stepped to the side to let her in, glancing around the neighborhood outside as if to make sure that this wasn't some elaborate prank on River's part. One could never be too sure. "Do you need something from me?" he asked with a slightly more pressing tone.

Bela James-RameriBela, once given the green light, walked inside. Giving a curt, brief nod in Alex's direction. She looked around the house, like she usually did when in a stranger's home, as she walked. Once she heard his question, she mentally laughed. What the hell could this skinny, taut, blue haired man ever possibly have that she would want? "Is that really how you speak to the mother of your child?" she asked, a wry smile plastered across her face as she slid onto the arm rest of the couch. Using that spot as her seat. She only allowed him a moment to think about that, before she corrected herself. "According to my husband, at least," she said, the fingers of her left hand absently running over the material of the couch beneath her.
"You see, it's all kind-of a funny story, actually," she bobbed her head with aknowledgement and humor, trying to alleviate his possibly frenzied thoughts. "Look, what I'm trying to say is, I've come here to confront you myself, considering my husband is too proud. And even if he did, he'd probably punch your face in once he caught sight of you. Which," her eyes slid up to his from lowered eyelids, looking like some kind of predatory animal. "Would not be in either of our interests now, would it?" she said, smiling a cat-like grin. With that in mind, her right hand went into her jeans and fished out her wallet. Pushing herself up to her feet, she walked toward him. "Give me a moment," she instructed, going through her pictures. She wanted to show a cute one, one which had all of them in it. So a few minutes were wasted as she decided. And once she did....
"There," Bela held up the small image up to his inspection. "There's my husband, Xeiro, and my two daughters, Ryder and Lyra." pointing them out each in turn, not wanting to scare him off. He looked like he spooked easy. "You see something odd?" she asked, clearly meaning Lyra's blue hair. But alas, she'd give enough time for even his shell-shocked mind to catch up to speed. "One of these things is not like the others~" she sang softly, a playful smirk on her lips. Of course, she was not being very worried about the whole situation, because she knew what was true and right. So, armored with that, she had absolutely nothing to worry about. Xeiro's pride and dimness be damned! Her blue eyes were fixed on Alex's face as she waited for him to piece the puzzle in his head and see the mental portrait she was trying to illustrate.

If only River had been there to see Alex's expression when Bela spoke. She would have delighted to see the blood drain from his face and his eyebrows leap up in that first split second that Bela had said 'mother of your child'. Of course, she may have missed it completely, because just as quickly, the color returned to his face and his expression settled into a deep frown. He wasn't stupid enough to believe her -- though, for a moment, he did flip through his mental list of all the women he had ever slept with (it wasn't as long as one would believe) and doublecheck. Of course there was no one even close to Bela in name or appearance, and so he returned to stare at her like she had just sprouted a tail and started breathing fire. ...Maybe he really had been spending too much time with Freja, because the mental image didn't strike him as odd as it should have.
It was all going too fast. Bela had pulled out photos of her family, pointing them out. So her daughter had blue hair. Was that what this was about? If it was, he wasn't sure he could continue standing there as he was. He'd need to collapse down into a chair, the stupidity of it all was too much. "What the ******** are you talking about?" he asked her with a slow, unbelieving shake of his head. "Don't tell me, just because... Wait," he cut himself off as he looked at the photo again. "That's that baker guy," he recognized Xeiro. He remembered him from that awful hot spring event, and the cooking festival. He could never remember his name, though. So he was married to this woman? Alex glanced her over somewhat thoughtfully. He did seem like the type to like flashy blondes, though he couldn't imagine why anyone would. "Is this really why you're here?" he continued to question as the situation began to finally make sense, sort of. He was dealing with this idiot, afterall.

Bela James-RameriAs reasoning eventually came to him, Bela simply nodded her head slowly to help aid the gears in his head to work. Oh, he knew Xeiro, splendid! Then there wouldn't be a need to show him more pictures. "Frankly speaking, yes," she assured, a blank look on her face. Once her wallet was put away, she was back to being all business. "You see, under any other circumstance, his point may very well have been valid. But the fact of the matter is, you and I both know it's not true, correct?" she asked, rounding the couch to stand behind it, both her hands resting on the back of it. "Well, of course this wouldn't be the case, you don't seem like my type at all! I mean, look at you," she made a gesture with her hands toward his body, motioning her arms up and down. "No, just no, okay? I'm also here to tell you to stay away from him. Because, as sure as my real hair is brown, he will kick your butt. And honey, those sinewy clockstoppers were not made just to carry me over the threshold of our home. Or to hold me up during sex. Or do all the hard manual labor around the house. Or to contract so nicely against my body in a way that's just so..." she stopped, noticing how way out of hand she was getting. There she was, explaining how her husband's felt like against her body to a male stranger who could care less. Oh, and both her arms had somehow found a way to be holding herself in a quasi-hug.
Turning away from his possible glare, she cleared her throat and brushed her hands down her clothes to straighten out any imaginary wrinkles. "You know what I'm trying to say," she said, irritation creeping into her voice. Her back was to him, still not ready to look back again just yet. But then the next point was the most important, so she gathered up her courage and dignity and turned to look at him. "And more importantly, my daughter, Lyra," her face got very serious then, as she had been saying it. Her eyes narrowing on him. "He doesn't even want to look at her, at his own daughter, because he thinks she's yours." A beat. "How ******** up is that?" she asked, and a shadow of a frown came over her face. She wasn't frowning, but even her serious face looked kinda like she was sad about these news. Her only thoughts on the whole subject: 'How could I let things get that bad?' Those thoughts had been haunting her for quite a while now. She felt so sorry for poor Lyra, and at times felt guilty that she wasn't able to give her the brown hair her father craved. Genetics could really be such a b***h sometimes.

~ Time Paradox! ~ Ahh~!! The Park household! His ultimate favorite stop EVER! He just loved coming to this place, especially since it housed nothing but HIS followers~! It was like the most welcome place he could possibly be at EVER! He just loved zipping his way magically through bricks (because, heck, he was a fairy! What scientist could look him in the eye and tell him it was impossible? WHICH? Yeah, thought so.) It was quiet and snowing, just like he loved it to be simply because, well, it made him feel like Santa! He loved that fat, red-suited, happy man giving gifts to everyone! It was just like how he wished he was seen~! But.. more people would come visit Santa, wouldn't they? He frowned to himself as he went through the house, finding himself in River's room. He set his usual basket of goodies down on the nightstand, full of various candies, but, most importantly, rock candy! Oh, he loved that candy so much~ But, even that sight didn't have him chipper as he dropped his letter and went to the next room..
" RIIIVEEERR~~!! You have and always will remain my ultimate super fantastic favorite girl EVER! ♥ You always keep yourself so happy and simple and EVERYTHING! I love it and I can't tell you how relaxing it is to pop in on a day of River's life and see you smiling and bubbly as always! Especially now – you actually found love! ..I think.. I mean, it's not the BEST match – I would have told you to go for, say, Usagi or Avikna, but you're happy, aren't you? So, I approve! YAAY! I just wish my love life was as lucky as yours, River, but this isn't about ME! It's about YOU! You and your happiness! I wish you to forever be as content as you are now! If you ever feel like you want something, GO FOR IT! Reach for the stars, River!! I'll support you 100%! Now that that is done, can we talk about something else? ..I really would like it if you could come visit me sometime! I'm so lonely and I need company! If it's you – even if you don't take anyone along – I bet I could go a whole decade of loneliness! So, please, pay me a visit? We don't have to talk! You could just leave me something – ANYTHING! A piece of candy, a watch, or one of those fancy mechanical pencils.. Leave it at my shrine, run off, and I'll be the happiest ever! I hope to see you someday, River, and BYE!"
The next room, of course, was Elliot's! So, he swept his way inside and, from within his burlap sack, he pulled out a small, ceramic clock with a few circus elephants surrounding the clock face, beside which was a letter addressed to Elliot Park.
" ELLIOT! Hello again! You're blossoming into such a beautiful woman – you have a chest that could almost rival the goddess in bounciness! Not that I've tried to – that would be just wrong! Unless you would let me? You can always pay me a visit any time you need me, Elliot, I'm always there for you~! Now, onto your – dun dun dun!! EVALUATION! Okay! You've been doing good job so far this year, BUT, you haven't made very many friends! You have one really good friend who's gotten better lately, so I'm happy for you! But, with that friend dating your sister – don't you think you'll get lonely soon? What if she doesn't pay attention to you?! I don't mean to cast any doubt in your head, Elliot, but I think you should go out and make more friends just to be safe! The animals at the circus like you lots, but humans are easier to talk to, aren't they? Like.. Oh! Lucia! You work with Lucia, don't you?! Then you should go talk to her ASAP! There's always Tate, too, he's a new bartender – and, and, Crimson! You both have red hair! It'll be perfect!! I'm sure you can talk lots about that, right? Right! If all else fails, then you can get with your friend and sister and see where that goes! BYE and have a good year, Elliot!"
By the time he got to Alex's room and set down a clock shaped liked a cat with a chef's hat ontop, he realized something horrible. He had been moping the entire time he was inside his favorite house!! How could he?! Ilex tusked himself as he set the orange envelope down next, addressed to Alex Park. He would have to get back to his energetic self! NOW! With that thought in mind, he darted out of the Park household to continue his duty~!
" HELLO, AGAIN!! Alex, Alex! How could you not get the whole family out to visit me, mm? I was so excited and it's not like I didn't ask! I've done nothing but that for the last two years!! ..Oh, you, I still like you, Alex~!! SO, that's why I'm going to ask you once again and not hold it against you that it's taking you so long to remember me! I've left you enough clocks that you SHOULD remember me by NOW!! ANYWAY, let's get to talking about YOU!! Yes, you! Alex, you've been doing so GOOD this year! REALLY GOOD! I mean, you used to be nothing but a quiet working man, but now you're a FRIENDLY, HAPPY, AND OUTGOING GUY! YOU UPGRADED!! YAY! You're going to be just like River if you keep this up – wouldn't that be fun?! IT WOULD BE! I'd be so proud of you and then you'll get all the candy you want and then we can all see eachother in the mine to have a fun family picnic and IT'D BE SO FUN!!! YAY!! So, I say you need to keep finding new people to befriend – Like Ashleigh! Or Tate!! OR CRIMSON! You guys could all become the best of friends and I'D LOVE IT. Oh, oh, but never forget your older friends! Freja – who's completely available even with the baby – would be a perfectly good friend! A REALLY good friend! A COMPLETELY TOTALLY SUPER PRETTY AND PERFECT FRIEND! So, GO BE FRIENDLY! Bye-bye, Alex~!"

Alex grimaced. As far as he could tell, this woman was just there to gloat or something. He couldn't think of any other reason as to why she was sitting in his living room, telling him, a complete stranger, about her husband and kids. So what if her husband was so stupid he couldn't even tell when a child was his? Though he had no doubt that he wouldn't stand a chance against Xeiro -- he may have been tall with a grumpy face, but he had never fought beyond playful wrestling with his brother when he was a kid -- he still failed to understand why Bela was there to tell him all this. She didn't seem like the type to worry about someone else's well-being.
"Is he some kind of idiot?" he murmured to himself as he took a seat, deciding that this may have been important enough for him to take a break from passive-aggressively standing -- it was a tall guy thing. Thankfully, she stopped talking about her sex life and continued. NOW she reached the point of her visit, it seemed. It wasn't just that her husband was an idiot, he was letting it get in the way of his relationship with his daughter. "So he's so committed to this idea that I'm the kid's dad that he won't look at it logically?" Alex grasped for a clear understanding. He could only come to one conclusion, really -- this guy was the biggest idiot who had ever lived and he wasn't sure he liked him very much. "And you've explained to him that we've never met?" Of course, it was a stupid question, of course she had. Any rational person would. But then again, she had married Xeiro, that had to mean something... "So why are you telling me all this? Do you expect me to go up to him and tell him that I think he's an idiot for believing that? Because I don't think it'd work." Just imagine, him explaining that he had never met the guy's wife until she came to visit him in his home. Although he didn't think it was particularly hard to locate someone's address, especially a business owner like himself, but he wasn't convinced that Xeiro would be smart enough to figure that out. If he seriously thought that his daughter was Alex's, he'd probably jump to conclusions and think they were lying.

Bela James-RameriWhat an ingrate. "What an ingrate," Bela said, voicing her thoughts exactly as she thought them. Her hands went to her hips, taking on that 'I'm serious' pose. "Look, I came here, aside of pointing out that you're the only other idiot on this island who openly has blue hair, to tell you to be careful around my husband. Jeez, is that so hard to get though your skull, or are there just too many recipes up there clouding your mind?" she asked, now a little irritated at him. Only she could say that her husband was a little touched in the head. Her. His wife. Bela James. And occasionally Beatrice, though she too had blue hair, but that's it. She was snapping, and to this stranger that she barely even cared about; though she was looking out for both his and her husband's well being by doing this.
She looked at him with an leveled gaze, "If push comes to shove, I recommend you get a restraining order and that's that. If not, I sure hope you know how to duck really well," she said, turning her head away. This all turned out to be some huge disappointment, really. "I'm out of here. Before Talna and Gladice hear about this; they're liable to spread rumors, and then you can be sure we'll both be in trouble." her blue eyes found their way back to his, though she didn't look as angry as before, some mild irritation plain on her face. Her arms came to cross across her chest as she considered just leaving him like that. But, how about just one more barbed truth be launched at him? "Speaking of rumors, you should really get youself a girlfriend, people are starting to think you play for the other team. And if I were you, I'd be weary of that one Tepes twin..." she said, turning to head to the door. "You'd be in for a nasty surprise were you to wake up next to that thing~" she singsonged at the end, opening the door as she spoke. Once it was open, she gave him a wink and slipped through. Probably leaving him with even more questions than answers.

Alex was at an honest loss for words. First this woman showed up, completely out of the blue, going on about her kids and her husband and possibly the most stupid misunderstanding he had ever heard. She had never properly explained herself, not really, as her words were completely jumbled up and for a person who knew neither her nor her husband, he had trouble making sense of what was what. And then, somehow, once he started to get a grasp of the situation, she got angry, and insulted him. He had opened his mouth once or twice to snap back at her, but she didn't give him must of a chance to interject. It was all too moronic for him, and he lived with River. You'd think with his roommates he'd have a much higher tolerance for stupid ideas. He still didn't understand why she was there, why she had gone through the trouble to see him in person to explain all of this. She could have come to the restaurant, or called. Hell, even a letter would have done the trick. It wasn't that he felt threatened by the idea of Xeiro, not at all. He wasn't a fighter, but he was a big guy, and besides, from what he knew of the baker, he didn't seem like the kind of guy to ambush him and try to pick a fight over something he probably knew to be not true, deep down. But there was something with this Bela woman that made him uncomfortable, and as the door swung closed behind her, he gaped in the direction of the front hall. There was something surprisingly personal about her being in his home, chastising him like that. And most of all, he was deeply irritated by the comment on his love life. It was nobody's business but his own if he chose to be single, and he didn't like the idea that people were discussing his lack of a girlfriend and using it as a reflection of his person. In fact, the more he sat there, staring, thinking about the situation that just unfolded, the more irritated he became. Eventually it became all too much for him to handle, and he disappeared into the kitchen, to clean dishes from that morning. At least he could scrub out his anger in peace.
