Before the little kit could roll away from his hands, Lucretiel scooped her up and, avoiding her protests, claws, and teeth, gave her a once over before replying.

"What about..." He paused as a impish smirk graced his face, "abhiSakta..." He decided not to tell Aubri what it meant in his old tongue.

"All right, then," Aubri said as she wrote the name down. "Out you go, now. Bring her back in two days, around noon, for her first formal language lesson. Right now, I'm expecting a visitor."

Her mind flashed to the message she'd left on Hakim's answering machine. Well, he might stop by soon...

"Any questions, just call."

Hakim stood in front of the familiar house and waited for Shandar to catch up with him. It had rained earlier that morning and the Dumyr had spent the whole walk trying to avoid damp patches of pavement and puddles.
"Come on." He sighed knocking on the door. and folding his arms.
"I am." Shandar sniffed irritably as he picked his way up the path and joined Hakim on the door step.

"And there's that visitor I was talking about." Aubri scuttled over to the door and pulled it open. It couldn't possibly be the other new caretaker - that'd be asking too much of people.

And yes, she had been correct - it was Hakim. And Shandar, with him!

"Well, Hakim. Come in. You too, Shandar. As you can see," she explained, pointing to Luc, "I have somebody else to deal with at the moment - though he should be leaving right about now - so, if you would, please go with Abolesce to the library."

Abolesce groaned, rolling his eyes and heading for the hallway. Come on, you two. We've got some news I think you'll want to hear.

Hakim stepped into the house and nodded his head slightly to the boy who already stood in the house.
"Afternoon." He said to Aubri though used to her abrupt, cold manner by now he felt rude if he didn't greet people. Following Abolesce he wondered what this news might be.

Shandar merely glanced from the woman, to the boy and then to the creature he vaguely remembered from his short time at the house. He said nothing and followed Hakim and the creature to the library.

Entering the library, Abolesce motioned with his tail towards a chair. Sit. I wonder if Aubri wanted me to tell you, or if she wants to tell you herself... He cocked his head to one side, thinking. His glasses steady on his nose, he began to pace. Quite the conundrum.

What an unfriendly atmosphere. No wonder his little Dumyrciedel is a cranky she-devil! Snorting, he got off the couch and quickly sauntered to the door, abhi in hand and her jaws around his wrist. Even annoyed as he was, Lucretiel wasn't the type to say nothing and so with an informal, "Seeyah..." he left.

He fished his car keys from his pocket as he battled with the furball in his other hand. God, this thing was insufferable!

"If you don't settle down, I'm shaving you and dumping you in the glove compartment!" Slamming the door closed, he gently placed the Uluen on the seat beside him. The little kit mewed spitefully and curled up. She fell asleep in no time.

Well, that was a plus. At least she'd be sleeping more than terrorizing. He started the engine to his car and went back home. He already regretted having to come back. Hopefully, he could drop her off and run out quickly!

Picking Shandar up off the floor Hakim sat in the comfortable chair and placed him on his lap. Shandar settled, for once without complaint glancing curiously around the library.

"It's nothing bad I hope?" He asked watching Abolesce pace the library floor.

No, nothing bad. In fact-

Abolesce stopped as Aubri entered the library, closing the door behind her. "Sorry about that. Anyway. Where were we...?"

I was just about to tell them the good news, Abolesce commented wryly, padding over to a table in the corner and poking, with his snout, at the book that rested on it.

"Ah. Okay. Well, I just received a message that Akhetnnami has reconsidered her decision to not take an apprentice. When she decided to become a mentor... she chose Shandar as her apprentice. That is, if you still wish to send him to Baarikmet." An eyebrow raised, she leaned back against one of the tall bookshelves.

Hakim looked from Aubri to Shandar and back again. This was good news, and what he had hoped for since he first found out about the apprentice positiong.
"Well, I think the decision would be up to Shandar." He said finally stroking the Dumyr's back. "Would you like to go?"

Shandar looked up at Aubri and blinked. He could remember little about the place he originated from. He knew however, from his lessons that a place with a council member was prestigious. It would give him a status and possibly even a small ammount of power. Far more interesting than being a glorified talking pet.
"I'd like to go." He said sitting up and flexing his wings. "It would be a great honour to study with a member of the high council."

"Well, then." She pulled out a folded up piece of paper out of her pocket and held it out to Hakim. "A list of all the nearest plane and ship rides to the country. You may accompany Shandar if you wish, or I can have somebody pick him up when he arrives. Most of my team is still over there, trying to clear the sand and build perimeter walls so the city won't be reburied as easily.

"I'd go myself, but I've just been given a shitload of lecture work to do for the University, and a new 'daughter'." Aubri did not look thrilled.

Sileust didn't know that the Count would actually say yes, Aubri. I'd say be glad that she didn't have that baby doll of hers brought to life. I'm sure that would have been worse, he commented, sitting up on his haunches and reaching out a paw to drag the tome he was inspecting closer.

Hakim thought about the prospect of travelling to the underground city, it was an exciting thought, one that would probably be best saved until Shandar was settled.
"Hmm I think it is probably more beneficial to go alone." He said reluctantly. He would worry about him on the long journey but the independence might do him good.

He was about to enquire about the new 'daughter' when Abolesce made his comment about dolls. Hakim remembered the doll girl he had met on his arrival and smiled nervously. There was something about animated dolls that just seemed....creepy.
"When would he be leaving?"

"When whichever plane or boat you put him on leaves. That's up to you. Simply tell me when he's leaving, and which route he's taking, and I'll call on ahead."

Hakim nodded in understanding and stood, Shandar jumping off his lap as he moved.
"Thank you very much Aubri." He smiled taking the papers and folding them neatly. "I will let you know as soon as I decide."

With that he was gone, Shandar following closely behind without a word.

Having seen flyers around the lounge in the science building, Rivka went to speak with her advisor to see who this Aubrianna was. After attending her guest seminar, Rivka was enthralled by the discoveries Aubrianna had made throughout her young life. Wanting to know more information, she was given the address to Aubrianna's place by the department chairman. Making her way down the street she felt a bit nervous, never having met with an archeologist outside of a fieldwork setting. Taking a deep breath, she knocked on the door.
