Jin took careful note that the vines had vanished from the trees. At least that was one last thing to worry about. But as he and his team made their way through the forest an eerie feeling pulled over his body. Frowning, Jin stopped moving. At the same moment a kunai zipped down to strike the spot where he would have been if he hadn't stopped.

Wide eyed, Jin jumped backwards and watched as fumes began to be released from the kunai. Whirling around to face his team, he pointed urgently to the forest before. "We're going to have to make our way through their quickly. I'm guessing it's littered with more traps that release fumes." Jin said. He watched the smoke before him from a safe distance. Taking in a deep breath, Jin readied himself again. He knew should wait for one of them to locate the trap and disable it or at least find a safe route. But they were running low on time. And he wasn't willing to wait on someone. He still didn't trust them fully in any accord.

Gripping his spear tight in case he needed to block any in coming attacks, Jin charged through.

"The tags hit me?" Hatsuma questioned as Oasis proceeded in it's removal. "Is that what the strange scent was earlier? hm..." She thought a moment as to what the tag might have done with her mind however she could only think on the matter for a moment as she really wanted to complete the mission and get out of the exam test. "Hm the effects must a have been moot on me we might as well get out of here and see how we did on our results..." Hatsuma exclaimed before making her way towards the secret exit that she had discovered prior to going back to retrieve Yua. She did wonder however at how long the Tag had been attached to her, was it from the first time going through it? As she tried to think of these things she came out at the other and of the passageway and realized it was over... She stood there wondering what she should do next, after all the whole point of her existence was to complete that portion of the exam, now that it was complete she had nothing left to strive for... Why was she thinking like this? She began to think about her situation and not really pay attention to anything else as she stood there deep in thought.

Jin kept his spear spinning around his body rapidly. The frame of the weapon hitting and smacking away the incoming kunai easily. Jin kept his eyes trained on the spot he was running to. Where he would be safe from the kunai as they rained down upon him. Glancing only towards the trees as a particular kunai shot off in his direction. When needed, he would drop down, roll out of the way or use his spear almost like a rod to launch himself out of the way of an incoming attack.

Finally skidding to a stop in the safe area, Jin turned to face his team. A grin was spread wide across his face from within his mask. Giving them a thumbs up, Jin watched the kunai stop raining down. The fumes that had been emitted had cleared away from the area. And once again the section seemed harmless. The only clue was the litter of kunais that were now all over the floor.

It was only a moment later that Jin's arm dropped and his face soured. His body was rigid and frozen still. Slowly, Jin turned his face to look at the trees that surrounded him. There were strange machines literring them, the x on their face easily seen from where he stood. Raising a hand to point them out slowly, Jin continued to turn and noted that just on the other side of the line of sentries was the compound. They were near the end of their mission. All he needed to do now was to get out of harms line.

Slowly, Jin returned his spear to his sling and lowered his body to the ground. He was going to try and sneak around the damn things. He wasn't sure what type of trap they had. So that was best, to sneak around. Last thing he wanted was his spear being a huge target for him. Taking a deep breath again. Jin edged his way to what he hoped was the blind spot for the sentries.

Unfortunately, just as Jin moved, the sentries all turned their heads toward him. "s**t.." Jin muttered. In a frantic race, Jin waved away his decision to sneak around and ran straight through them sentries as they blasted off nets at him. One, he dropped down to the ground quickly and pushed himself to the right. His body rolled across the ground rapidly as the net clung to the empty earth. Two, Jin rolled his body and flipped back to his feet just in time to avoid another one that had been aimed at his upper body. Three, Jin took off in another run, leaping fearfully to a tree before kicking off it to dodge the a net that wrapped itself around the tree's bark.

That was when Jin was caught. Luck ran out and two sentries shot off a net each at him in mid air and caught him. Falling back down to the ground like a rock, Jin laid their still in paralysis while his mind fell into another hallucination.

He was going to fail. That was it. Jin had lost. He was trapped yet again and there was no way to get out of it. He was going to lay there and rot for the rest of his days. His team would have surely used this time to get pass the sentries and forget all about him. They would pass. They would become chuunin. Him? No. That wasn't what his future had in store for him. he would fail. Be humiliated. Be left in this swamp and forest to rot because that was what he deserved.

His revenage. His ambitions. His goals. His everything. None of it mattered anymore. Jin was going to rot there. He wasn't the best anymore. No, the best wouldn't get caught. The best would have dodged the nets. No. The best would not have even gotten noticed by the sentries. The best would have gotten around and even disabled them. Clear the way and prepare all the best posibilities for his own team. That was what the best would have done. And instead he was caught. Humiliated. And defeated.

No. NO. He was Jin Taega. He WAS the best. Just because he didn't do things the way that was expected of the best didn't mean he wasn't the best. He refused to be viewed as anything else. He would never just give up and accept failure. He would succeed.

With a loud growl, Jin ripped the nets from his body and rose back to his feet. Whipping his spear from his sling he walked through the rows of sentries without a care. Each time a sentry looked his way and shot off a net, the spear slashed it to ribbons. Jin's path wouldn't be altered. He was done with the games.

Static electricity sparked out around Jin's body as he made his way into the base. His eyes stared viciously from behind his mask. The target stood before him. It was time for this game to be over.

Jin spinned the spear quickly beside his body. With a tight grip, he stilled the weapon beside him. The electricity sparked out from the weapon violently. With a few small steps, Jin dashed towards the dummy target. With a simple horizontal slash, the spear ripped through it's body and left it limp on the ground. It was a bit to easy. But maybe that was because of his anger.

Jin shook his head. Carefully he surveyed the room to see if there was any traps or possibly another target. Once he was sure of himself, he returned the spear to his sling and left the complex. It took a lot more time getting back to the sentries. His anger from before had distracted him so much. It was actually surprising and discerning as well. How could he loose control of himself so easily. That was something a ninja should never do. He needed to work at that, otherwise it would proove to be a weakness for him in the future.

Jin's thoughts continued to ramble on as he snuck his way back through the sentries and around the kunai traps. He wasn't sure how long it took him to get back to his squad but when he did, he smiled quietly from behind his mask. "I'm back. I took out the target. We just need to get you guys to the base so we can leave."

Ka'rinth blinked slowly before twitching his fingers rapidly as he contemplated what his next move should be as he squinted slightly. He could only see three shapes that might be watchers but that was in all honesty three too many and suggested that many more could be hidden. Not knowing what the figures might be capable of was actually worse than knowing that they were there and there might be others he could not see. With a soft sucking of his teeth he decided to try a novel approach to it as he flicked his fingers and exhaled slowly. Dark eyes were showing concern as he contemplated the best method of advancing now that he had a general idea that he was in the vicinity of a trap. Normally he would simply trigger it using a puppet but with the other two traps having been so relatively simple and non lethal that he couldn’t help but believe that this one had to be more dangerous or could result in serious damage to his precious puppets if he was not careful about it and he needed both for any fighting that was to occur. He sat looking at the area and with a nod decided to go ahead and move forward on his own for this one then move the puppets after he was sure what would occur. He shifted slightly as he dropped to the ground and his puppets leapt upwards to land on the branches in order to keep them out of the way.

He smiled as he moved forward softly his hands twitched as he prepared for a fight should he have to, his hands were hidden by his sleeves as were his weapons as he ducked slightly and drew his color changing cloak around his body as he slipped forward and looked towards the trees curiously before dashing forward and jumping into the shadow of a tree that he believed had a figure on the opposite side. His hands slowly inched upwards gripping the bark as he pulled himself upwards slowly leaving marks in the tree from the pressure of his fingers before slowly peeking around the tree until he could see the start of a figure at which point he pulled his head back and focused on the tree he was touching. The same ability he used to see from the perspective of his puppets allowed for some other interesting spying applications. His hands gripped the tree more tightly as he looked at the other side of it and nodded to himself, it seemed that there was a figure there and it closely resembled a puppet but with a slightly different build than those he usually made. He sighed before inching a bit further up the tree using the chakra threads from his hands as he shifted around the tree and used his gecko grip to stand on the tree above the sentry and out of it’s view while looking for the next point he needed to move to.

With a nod as he analyzed the lay out before him he closed his eyes and mapped out the trees before him before nodding and jumping to the next tree and twisting around it before sliding to the ground as he saw two more sentries on either side from where he was, yet only one was generally facing him and with a nod he extended his chakra threads and turned the sentry so that it faced the tree it was behind as he turned and viewed the other. He shifted his weight and leapt using the tree as a blind side and landed lightly facing the tree opposite the next sentry before pausing and kneeling to spread his awareness of plants outwards to fill the area and map the locations of the remaining sentries. He smiled to himself as he prepared to move his puppets through the areas in his wake but first moved up the tree and quickly took to the branches using blind spots and angles above or below the sentries to pass by with ease and begin heading further towards the actual base and the target that he was assigned to destroy. He smiled slightly at the thought of making it a quick job and seeing what the surprise for the next round was meant to be. His eyes were flicking over the area as he nodded to himself and began bringing his puppets along the pathway in his wake careful to insure that it would allow him to easily bypass the sentry puppets. As his puppets moved along in his wake they quickly reached him and he smiled slightly before making his way towards the target location once more viewing the building confidently planning to insure that he had bypassed all of the sentries before proceeding.

’I shall fight to honor the name of Kaiten, the name of my father…

Erkamina continued south-west, following the paths that seemed to converge in front of her. Some seemed to go out of the way, just like the maze had, but not nearly as often. Perhaps it was the destination that was the true test, not necessarily the path to get there. Her soft footsteps were muffled by the whining of the dog to be let free of its leash but she wouldn't after going through the trouble of finding the bugger. She had, after all, been the only one to hear its whines and track them of the group so now she lead them to where the map pointed. She sometimes had to turn south, sometimes west, but the path seemed to always point south-west- as if destined to make her journey shorter. She allowed herself to speed up upon thinking this, wanting all the more to reach the destination before the bell ended this round and she ended up a failure again. She couldn't allow another fail on her record if she had anything to say about it. And based on the position of the fog and the temperature of the air she didn't have much time left based on how quickly the last round ended. The other four teams probably already got to the base and through it by now, she gathered, so she was far behind already by struggling to find the dog for so long. She sped to a near-run, the pathways now becoming short bursts of root and leaf-covered trails under her feet. Surprisingly the dog remained only a few steps behind her, followed closely by the teammates which seemed to speed up along with her. She turned each corner with grace and bounded along, trying to get to the finish line all the quicker. She wouldn't allow her ego to be crushed again and she would prove- once and for all- that the Kaiten were not failures! Upon thinking this she nodded and put her fist into the air, a show that she was going to continue forward to live up to her nindo to prove the world wrong about her father and her 'clan' of curses and halfwits. She was going to to live up to the truth, she was going to become what her father only dreamed possible. Maybe even the greatest shinobi the Mist had ever seen. No, that was a bit much for her to reach for but she would settle for note-worthy, a mention in the history books- someone to know in the future that she had done something worthwhile. In the end that was her hidden goal, the reason behind her revenge and her training. After this exam she'd go back to it two-fold to make up for lost time. But now she had to pass this exam and get up to the next rank so she could train again, or maybe even in higher ranked jutsu. She really needed to learn more about the Water Element that lay just beneath the surface but she had to get to that base first. She had to get through this fog-covered forest of endless trees and branches. And by her calculations the first major landmark should be visible within a hundred feet if she was correct about their location in relation to the rivers and base. If not, she'd have to re-calculate based on a different spot or a different scale, she wasn't sure at the moment which would be the case. The determined distance seemed small to her for such a large forest but it was in a small country so perhaps the scale was about the same as she had guesstimated it would be. But without knowing her beginning location giving a 'heading' was a shot in the dark. If she was lucky it would be a bull's-eye. If not she'd just gone all this distance for nothing. But the dog didn't seem to be pulling in another direction other than to get away from the leash. It didn't stop as she continued to jog towards the south west. "We should be seeing a river shortly. We have to cross it to get to the base..." She said pointedly. As if on cue the river came into view just ahead, she looked happy and accomplished at the same time. "I found the first marker which means I was right about our starting location." She thought as she led the group forward, charging her chakra to head across the river. She lifted the dog to chest level, not knowing dogs could swim, and carried it over. The group followed her across and within a few steps they were on the opposite shore and she let the dog back down. She smirked as she looked at the map again, the second river was actually a small stream right next to them. Which meant... "There it is..." She said, pointing at a building about fifty feet ahead. "There's the base... Let's go!"

… Soon I will show the world the worth of that name.’

Erkamina walked into the base, only to notice that there were indeed traps. Namely vines scattered on the floor that seemed to be covered in purple thorns. "Alright, let's avoid those vines..." She said authoritatively, at this they seemed to move. "Yea, let's make that a priority one right there..." She said as they struck out at her, seeing as she was the first one in the group, and seemed to almost seek her out. It was indeed a pre-planned set-up trap. She tightened her grasp of the leash-rope as she tried to walk around the vines, each step she took was another lash-out of vines, each time faster to the point she could barely make out the movement at all. She tried to dodge them but they seemed to read her movements, reacting to each vine as a separate and equal part of the whole trap. She wanted this to be over more than anything else. She watched them carefully as she struggled to dodge them, slowly learning their reactions to her movement. She seemed to adjust to the movement with a bit of effort and easily dodged each on-coming vine as she continued forward, leading her team through them easily, moving like a snake around the final vine, at which all of them seemed to settle back into a state of stillness. "Way too close for comfort."

((56 lines before this roll, and only one med roll made))

Hisaki looked over the field of thorns slowly crawling and surrounding Yuki. Things were going to get sticky from here on in, but Hisaki was pretty sure he knew what to do. With a sigh, he pocketed the Sword of Oblivion, and pulled a scroll from his waist. He unfurled the scroll, revealing the ink-covered parchment beneath. Thousands of symbols sat on the scroll, in a pattern of a large circle, with lines of notations coming off of it like vibrating echoes. Hisaki held the scroll in front of his face, and touched the center of the circle with the palm of his hand. A burst of light came from the ink, and Hisaki's hand was able to enter the parchment. He grabbed hold of the obect within, and pulled it out. There was a huge flash as it emerged, and Hisaki had to turn his eyes away from it's radiant glory.

The light dimmed, and Hisaki looked at his prize... with a definite level of disdain. In his hand sat a gourd. Not the same gourd he'd been expecting though. Hisaki had expected the gourd his father used, the Haioku gourd. He'd been picturing the full sized, three foot tall gourd that his father used when he needed the extra firepower to his attacks. Instead, he held, in his hand, a gourd no bigger than a butternut squash. There was a symbol printed on it, the kanji for oil, and a small sticky note. Hisaki pulled it off, and read it aloud, "Sorry kiddo, but I need the big one back at home. Hope you don't mind... Smileyface... P.S. On the bright side, it fills up fast. P.S.S. It holds more than you think." Hisaki crumpled up the little yellow note, and growled, "What the hell dad... I thought I was supposed to get the big one... Well, lets see how well this little thing does..."

Hisaki fastened the gourd to his belt, and closed his eyes. He did a few fluid motions with his hands, and the gourd let out a steady stream of yellow oil. Hisaki brought his hands over his head and quickly reeled them back. With a step forward, his shoved his hands forward again, and, surprisingly, nearly a gallon of oil gushed out from the little gourd and flew into the bramble of thorny vines. Hisaki grinned, then did a whirling motion with his hands. The oil splashed and whirled about, coating a rather large area with flammable oil.

Hisaki smirked, then reached for his cigarette, but found none. "Must have fallen out when I was hallucinating..." Hisaki then did a few hand seals, and put his hand to his mouth. Using the Grand Fireball Jutsu, Hisaki created a sizeable fireball that engulfed the bushes of vines. The burned quite violently, spurting small jets of flames here and there. Once the flames began to quiet down just a little bit, Hisaki took a running start, and jumped over the licking flames, and onto ash-ridden ground. Now that there was a clear way to the other side, Hisaki walked over to Yuki, who's vines were only just beginning to catch on fire.

At this range, Hisaki simply pulled out his katana, and sliced through a few approaching vines. A few more accurate slices left Yuki open to be pulled out. Hisaki hoisted the boy over his shoulders, and said rather bluntly, yet sarcastically, "You know Yuki, you could stand to lose a few pounds." With a few skips and a jump, Hisaki emerged on a shore-side of the bushes unharmed. He let Yuki down into the dirt, stood up, taking a quick tally of how many spikes were embedded into the self-proclaimed bishop's body, "This might take a bit of effort..."

As they continued, Erkamina noticed that the swamp seemed to decrease in thickness, becoming less foresty and more like an actual base. Or was it more like a field? She wasn't completely sure what to call this area, seeing as it was supposed to be a 'base' of an enemy of sorts. But with this 'discovery' also came her noticing that there seemed to be no vines here. She sighed in a relieved tone, allowing herself to almost dash forward. But the relief was short-lived as what seemed to be tagged kunai seemed to be hanging above her head, at which she froze. Her entire body seemed to react to their presence above her, the shining metal gleaming to spite the fog from earlier, showing that these weapons were the next trap. How they were triggered was anyone's guess. She carefully took a step forward and nothing happened so she took another step. She almost sighed in relief only to see movement out of the corner of her eye. They seemed to be flung at her out of nowhere as she continued walking, a strange scent coming off of them. "First vines attack me and now this- scented kunai!" She said, pointing at the kunai as they flew, several of them seemed to be tagged with some weird perfume. She scrunched up her nose and tried to continue forward, only to have the kunai seem to come closer to her. Some form of scent? What was this trap and why was it a scented one? It made no sense at all to her. Although that scent was heavenly, almost nostalgic in nature, she had to ignore it as much as possible in attempt to keep her sanity and remain a contender in this exam, if that was even possible any more. After all, if she failed this she'd never live it down and she would be cursed to bear the same awful laughter that her father had. Perhaps that was why he struggled so much to give Erkamina herself a better life so that she would never face such torturous sounds as being laughed at by a crowd. That sound seemed to echo into her very soul- even as an observer of such things happening at the mention of her father's name. She couldn't think about this now, she had an exam to finish. She shook her head vigorously to clear her thoughts and focused on the kunai. She held her breath and tried to think of something other than the flowery-sweet scent that seemed to seep into her very mind, infecting it with thoughts of love. What was it that she loved, truly, though? She wasn't sure anymore. She just had to get past these kunai to pass this exam, right? It should not be too hard, after all they didn't have a mind of their own, right? She shook her head again and continued forward, the kunai's scent seemed to fade with her renewed determination and the team seemed to also be unaffected by its scent. She was lucky twice over but something inside her told her that three times would be too much of a coincidence.

… Soon I will show the world the worth of that name.’

Ka’rinth advanced to the base with his puppets at his side and entered the building pulling up a mental image of the map as he turned slowly to overlay it on what he was seeing, it was a pretty good match and with a nod he set off moving towards the location of the target using stealth and pausing only long enough to retrieve his jutsu cards from his sniper puppet before walking through the long hall ways and glancing slowly down each, this was the type of infiltration he disliked, in an actual mission he would simply replace someone that belonged with a puppet and reveal them when they were in range of a kill. Though his normal method of revealing was to commit the kill but it was interesting how sometimes he managed to do it without actually revealing the puppet’s nature and instead only their presence. Assassination had always been his favorite type of mission as it was all one big puzzle to him but there were so few assassination missions that individuals could take on and team mates usually screwed him up. He shook his head as he walked slowly forward. He looked at the patterns of lights and frowned, there was something about darkness that gave rise to the primal senses and spread fear so easily. Normally people fled to lights to escape fear yet that simply made them better targets, but here he could not use the normal logic because so far all the targets had been dummies of sorts. With a frown he nodded to himself and decided that he should just tackle the problem head on in a relative term. He kept both puppets moving ahead of him as a kind of shield while he himself scanned the darkness hungrily looking for a sign of another trap or that the layout was different than expected. Ka’rinth dreamed of being the type of person that could kill hundreds of people, disassemble the foundations of a nation, and normal life easily so that each day would bring a new horror and each night would bring more fear as he committed act after act to drive fear into the people in such a way that he did not even need to hide his intents. Yet that was simply a dream, as it was he had to live in the present where the best he could do is occasionally pick up an assassination mission with no guidelines into which he could test his puppets and his theories about psychology and what would really break people. It was not that Ka’rinth was a sadist, it was that he was a sociopath, he had no use for family, friends, or society beyond a camouflage for what he did. There was no one he cared for or needed and only the convenience of not needing to know how to make every bit of raw material used in his pet projects made him appreciate others.
