The bronze and brown impressed almost att the same instant and Mercy was happy they had found theirs but her own chances were growing slimmer by the second with only three unhatched eggs left and none of them moving. Of course there was also the gold - but...that was almost to much to hope for.

Inaari's heart soared as Therion's best friend had the little brown nose right up into his stomach, a bright smile stretching across her face. Now, at least if neither of the couple Impressed, they would have someone to be personally happy for tonight! It warmed her considerably, and she all but rocked on her heels to finally turn her eyes away from the eggs and gold to watch the moment.

Really, it was incredible. Truly incredible!

Lothan watched as the blue found His and the green Hers; with each hatchling who Impressed, he grew tenser, hope and nerves curling his stomach into a tight knot. The hatchilngs would Impress, and some Candidates would be left standing, but he hoped. There were yet the bronze and the brown. Loth shot a glance at Ther - maybe it'd happen after all.

The young dragons seemed to confer, and - was that him the brown had looked at? Lothan held his breath as the brown dipped his head gracefully.

And then an insistent nose was shoving into his belly. You are Mine and I am your Capeth. I am hungry, feed me?

Lothan breathed a deep sigh of relief and joy, briefly unable to find words; there was Capeth -- HIS Capeth -- here with him, always with him -- and wow, hungry. He could feel that too, and though Capeth was too dignified to demand, his inquiry held that strength.

"Yeah. Yes. Let's go feed you," the words tumbled out. Capeth walked with him, head against his side, so very pleased with himself. Loth kept his hand on Capeth's head, stroking his ridges, still stunned by his incredible luck.

Rhilira watched on as the dragons on the sands Impressed, save for the queen. Glad this hatching is going well... She had forgotten that her dragonet could hear this, and as she handed another piece of meat to Galianth, she received a headbutt to the hand before the raw meat slithered from her fingers.

It's gone perfectly, Mine. I found you, and they have found Theirs - though that's not our concern.

Absently, the former-trader rubbed the small green's eye ridges, staring at the three yet-unhatched eggs. There had been a couple at her previous hatching, and the Weyrleader had had to open them... They had had hatched the unusual atypical dragons, as she had later learned they were called. Hopefully that would be the case this time as well. Hopefully that boy will end up being a good leader, the one who Impressed the bronze.

That's all he's good for anyway now, so hopefully he's at least good at it.

Kentori was watching intently, and Lalaith seemed to be mimicking his intentness. He had finished feeding her and she was lying on the sands. Even though he was clearly watching the rest of her clutchmates Impress, she was doing so sleepily. I'm tired, Mine. The food was so good, and the sands are still warm... There isn't much for us to do, right?

Kentori - though he would soon be called K'tor - bent and patted her shoulder. I'm not sure, but I don't think there is. Not yet, anyway.

The brown went straight for Lothan! Part of their childhood dream had been completed...but the bronze? Well, he'd found his, and it was a different guy. It would have been very un-manly of Ther to be openly upset about it, but he couldn't help feeling a little down.

His chances for Impressing now were slim, a Gold Queen (definitely not his) and some eggs that might be duds....or may hold Atypicals. For the first time, he thought about the Atypes as a partner, a mount, a companion. What would it be like to have one as his?

Mine? Please.

Filanth's tone was neither forceful nor pleasing as she spoke to her lifemate, the pair taking a bit more time to reach the tables than the Green would have liked. Tiepet seemed to be shriveling under the watchful eyes (and jealous glares) of the still-standing Candidates, many of them probably wondering just what it was that the Shepherd had that would turn a dragon her way. If Tie had any idea she most likely would willingly share the information with everyone.

I'm really hungry, so. . . .

A little more prodding came from the dragonet and Tie finally responded by taking some of the prepared meat set out on the tables. She more or less tossed the piece into Filanth's open maw, still a bit hesitant towards this new presence in her mind and heart. By no means was it completely unwelcome, Tie was somewhat used to mental chatter thanks to her flitters, though the sheer clarity of the thoughts was new. It was both thrilling and terrifying all at once.

Do you...want more?

Tiepet did her best to think what she wanted to say, not really certain how this whole telepathy bit would pan out. She'd heard adult riders say that it took time to get used to and to get good at, and time was now certainly something Tiepet had.

Seeing her siblings suitably Impressed, the gold stopped before the line of girls and appraised them with a cold sort of efficiency. One by one, she dismissed them. Where was Hers? She was here… the gold was certain of that.

For the second time during the hatching Wykla's breath caught in her throat. The gold queen was looking the girls over. She wasn't sure if she should stand right out in front, or stand behind the others so she wouldn't be in the way when the gold did Choose. This waiting was very very hard. Her eyes remained locked onto the gold as she stands to the side of the group. Neither in front, of most, nor behind all.

Tearing attention away from Loth who was quickly retreating with his new life partner, Inaari realized that the bronze had indeed Impressed, shattering her prediction for the boy at her side. But it wasn't over yet, there was no way all those eggs were duds! Another supportive squeeze and a light hip bump reassured Therion that she still had faith in him.

For herself, her nerves were rising as the queen hatchling traveled down the line of girls. Some of them were clustered together, but of course moved out of the way so that the little one could see them all. Impressing a queen was every girl's dream. But you never interfered with her finding Hers, she might then go between and that on your conscience? Unthinkable!

Mercy watche the gold as she moved down the line, she couldn't help but hope the pretty little queen would choose her even though she knew the odds were slight given the number of candidates left. Still she attempted to look as confident as possible as the queen looked them all over.

Perhaps it was because of their oblivious natures that both Tie and Filanth hadn't noticed what else was going on out on the sands. Last the young girl could recall there'd been fighting blues and a green, yet those dragons had all long since joined her at the tables with bellies full. Another blue had hatched, another green, and then the Bronze and the Brown. The Queen was still going, seeing as she appeared to be the only one left, and Filanth snorted at her actions.

She's wasting her time, but let her choose well.

The comment wasn't meant to be harsh and it certainly wasn't, so Tie shrugged it off. Anything else past this point was unimportant to the pair, not nearly as needed as trying to get Filanth full. If memory served Tie was supposed to keep feeding her until that physical ache of hunger they shared was gone, replaced by itchy skin and a need to sleep. The mental hunger could stay for a while, dragonets always had bigger eyes than actual stomachs, so it was up to Tie to keep her partner in check.

How...how is that?

Good. I am full now, and lying down. You can lay on me if you want, I like the way you smell.

It was refreshing to hear someone tell Tie she smelt nice....but then again, it was her own dragon. What to do!

Growing frustrated, the gold approached the line and more closely inspected the female candidates. But again she could not locate Hers. Moving along the line, she grew closer and closer to the boys’ side and her eyes whirled stronger and stronger orange. Where was Hers? Why was she not right here!?

Zeren watched with abstracted attention as the gold went on her way through the girls, in the back of his mind, somewhere, he hoped that the girl as strong, since the little queen definitly has her own mind, and in rising, would probably need controlling. He turned his gaze to the three unhatched eggs, wondering whether they contains hatchlings, or were truly Dud eggs.

Well. That was that, now wasn't it? Sharajan watched as the bronze and brown paired off and gave a slight sigh. Sort of anticlimactic, it was - but finally the gold was getting down to business.

He glanced up into the stands and saw people practically falling out of their seats to see who she'd choose. The boy had to admit he was curious as well, given that the girl chosen would be the next leader of the Weyr. Or something. He wasn't quite sure how that would work.

Sharajan thought of leaving, but no. There were still eggs to be cracked, if not by the hatchlings, by the dragonriders themselves, to make sure they weren't viable. And he'd have to remain around for that. Shifting to his left foot to allow the right to cool, he continued his vigil.

Well, served him right for letting his attention get diverted from the bronze. Next thing he knew, there was a large dragony snout being shoved into his stomach - which didn't hurt, per se, but it was definitely not something that you could ignore. He was just about to apologize and step out of the way, when something kind of weird happened.

He started hearing the dragon.

Your Pioth is with you now, Mine. Let’s go far!

As far as First Telepathy Moments go, buhwhaaaaaa? probably isn't the worst possible message... well, no, far from it... but it's pretty far down there. Certainly not earning any eloquence points yet. Fortunately, Pioth just seemed amused. Lucky for him, that he'd Impressed a pretty relaxed one. The bronze hatchling nudged at him again, gently but firmly, as if to confirm what he'd said.

It hadn't quite sunk in yet that he'd... he'd Impressed. Not only that, but a bronze. The quiet, noble presence that he'd almost passed over, not thinking that he could possibly - Of course you could. Dragons always choose correctly. Come on, Mine, I am hungry and you should meet Capeth's.

"Right!" A grin was creeping inevitably over his features, and somehow he suspected that it wouldn't stop anytime soon. His hand settled on Pioth's eyeridges, and his dragon (his dragon!) crooned in reply. S'dekai could feel Pioth's hunger, and the two turned towards the feeding tables together.

Was he still curious about the fate of the gold and the last few eggs? Absolutely. Did he have bigger things to worry about right now? Very yes. For once, he wasn't going to let anyone or anything else distract him from this perfect moment.
