Ayami sent the geisha a smile, knowing the torture of having to undergo the application of wax. Disappearing into another room, she searched for some hair ornaments that would offset Kyoku-sama's looks to the best light, and then realized to her chagrin that she didn't know what kind of kimono the geisha would be wearing. Feeling rather stupid, she returned to the main room.

"Ano...Kyoku-sama, would you mind telling me what sort of hair ornaments you're looking for? And what sort of kimono you intend to be wearing?" she asked politely.

"Oh and Kioku-san, Nitta-sama has agreed to tell everyone of our salon! She is even thinking of bringing her maiko here soon!" Ayami said happily.

Looking in the mirror a large warm smile blossomed on the young geishas face. "It is always worth the trouble to have my hair done. Its perfect thank you! Something bright Ayami-chan, i prefer dark or pastel colors so i think i need something to pop, perhaps you have something in pink to match my pastel green kimono with the mauve and pink mums on it? Also, i plan on taking some new sisters soo Kioku-san, so expect me to bring them!"

Ayami nodded cheerfully. "Let me think...how about this?" she asked, finally deciding on a beautiful kanzashi of Chinese roses in blushing pink and minty green leaves with slim woven braids colored rose, lavender, and sky blue to be laced into the hair. "The kanzashi would be placed here," she patted the top of her head, "and the braids would be towards the back of the hair. I also think maybe a comb like this one might be good on either side of the kanzashi..."

The combs in her hands were jet black and shone, much like Kyoku-sama's hair, each comb having five pearls the size of a pinky nail spaced about a finger width apart. It would look as though the pearls had been magically fastened to the wearer's head. "I think it would offset the whole look..."

Kioku sat back and watched Ayami pick out the kanazashi. 'That matches perfectly to Kyoku-san's style and everything! You have such an eye for matching the right kanazashi! You have a great talent.' Kioku said while sitting back and watching Ayami place the hair ornament in Kyoku's hair.

Nishiko emerged from the back with a book and pin in her hand. She bowed to her fellow employees and to the customer, Kyoku. She paused for a moment to marvel at Kyoku's beauty, before she proceed to shuffle over to Kioku.

"Kioku-san, we've had some beautiful geisha come in over the past couple of days! Don't you agree?" She smiled warmly, as she kept the book and pen enclosed tightly in her grasp. She did not want any of the customers to see it.

Ayami blushed, waving off the compliment. "Kioku-san!" she exclaimed with a laugh, "I'm just choosing whatever kanazashi seems right...it's hard to explain but it's really all just guesswork! I haven't even seen the kimono she plans on wearing, after all, no geisha would come to a salon with an expensive kimono on." Ayami nodded sagely, her demeanor echoing the joking quality of her actions. "Styling hair can be such messy business after all, even for a master like you Kioku-san!"

Kioku turned to Nishiko and whispered, 'Yes, it is very good that we have some of the most promenant geisha visiting our salon. It has really been giving me a great feeling that such honored geisha have been coming here! It really is so marvelous! I never thought our business would be this thriving.' Kioku said with a huge smile across her face.

Kioku then glanced at Ayami and smiled at her comment.

Sayuri walked into the salon, a smile creeping up her face. This maiko...the newest apprentice of Sayuri...she was going to have her hair done for the first time ever and go through the painful stages of having to have it redone if her hair even so much as touched a single piece of rice that lay nearly an inch away from her head. The poor girl would suffer, but Sayuri remembered it fondly. Geisha have painful lives, but surviving through that pain is another way that they succeed and rise above problems stronger than they were before.

"Ahh...it's so good to see everyone again," Sayuri greeted, slightly bowing to the salon crew inside. "I am sorry to intrude upon you again, but I have a maiko who will need her hair styled for a party tonight. Ao-sagi-chan, don't be shy."

Sayuri stepped aside to reveal the girl who had recently gained firm footing in her new footwear.

"She will be the loveliest maiko around, with your help," Sayuri cooed, allowing the women to have a look at Ao-sagi.

Nishiko nodded in agreement to Kioku's comment. She was about to say something more to the owner, but the geisha, Sayuri, entered into the salon with a maiko at her side.

"Welcome back Sayuri-san!" Her smile broadened as she saw the new maiko in her full assemble. "Is this your newest novice, Sayuri-san?"

'Welcome back, Sayuri-san. It is always...well....an interesting experience for a young maiko to get her hair done for the first time. It is not enjoyable but I am sure she will love the end result! She will feel like a true maiko.' Yokome said with a smile. 'Well right this way..' Yokome said motioning the young, nervous maiko to the stool.

"Welcome back Sayuri-sama!" Ayami greeted, smiling brightly. Noticing the maiko behind the geisha she grinned. "She's so pale and pretty, like a porcelain doll, I think I know just the kinds of pale and dark combinations of kanazashi to bring out that complexion of hers!" Bowing politely to the geisha, her maiko, and the room's other occupants, the hair ornament specialist disappeared into the other room with a slightly eccentril smile.

Ao-sagi took in the interior of the salon with wide eyes... the strong aroma of wax and perfume assaulted her nostrils, and her eyes clung to the many colorful ornaments on display. Nervously, she bowed to the occupants of the room, but could not manage to say a word.
She followed the senior hairdresser to the stool and settled down there, ruminating on what the lady had just said... not enjoyable?

Vividly she remembered the day she accidentally bumped into a chandelier hanging from the ceiling when cleaning the table at her grandmothers home -once more she had underestimated her unusual size- and the shock as the hot wax from the candles had dripped down and coated her hair.. It had taken her ages to get it out again... She shuddered, and nervously ran her waist-long braid through her fingers.

Show no emotions, be calm, don't hunch!
She repeated the okaa-sans advice like a mantra, trying to calm down.
Finally, she managed a timid smile.

"Thank you all very much for your kindness. You are most gracious to this humble maiko."
Nervously she looked at Sayuri, trying to read wether the regal geisha approved or disapproved of her actions.

((OOC: That with the chandelier really happened to me... it was not really an experience I'd like to repeat. wink ))

Sayuri nudged the maiko forward a bit more, with the gentle tips of her finger upon the maiko's back.

"It's alright to let the pain show, though I would not advise screaming," Sayuri whispered into the maiko's ear. "A simple moan will do. I am sure they will go easy on you, since it's your first time. Although, I cannot say it will not hurt. Be strong, though, for the final result will always amaze you."

Sayuri followed everyone, making sure that Ao-sagi-chan was always a step ahead of herself.

"This is my imouto-chan," Sayuri replied to Nishiko. "I have had my eye upon her, ever since our okiya bought her. I am afraid that if I'm not careful, my training will improve to become a better geisha than I."

Sayuri let out a little giggle at this statement.

"I see that the salon is busy, as usual. How do you keep up with so many customers? It always amazes me!"

Ao-sagi swallowed hard, then nodded as Sayuri-sama whispered in her ear.
I will not cry She promised herself and sat up straighter.
This can't be worse than the dentist, can it?

She hung her head a little and blushed at her onee-sans comment of her becomming a better geisha than Sayuri was herself...
I don't think so... she looks like she never felt so awkward as I do now or had any doubts in her life... she is perfect.

She sank a little deeper into the stool so the hairdresser would not need to reach up and took a deep breath...

"Thank you, onee-san... I think I am ready for the procedure now."
