Im a Necron player, I have been at this hobby for just over a year now and have first fell for the Necrons because regardless of weapons or looks or ease of play, I like them for one reason! They are pure Evil, there is no middle ground there.

As for playing the game I play a standard 1500pts list and here is one that I have been thinking about for a while:

HQ: 1 x lord w/VoD + Res Orb 200pts
OR w/Destroyer Body + Phase Shifter + Res Orb
(I cant decide whether I want to jump around or just move quickly!)

Troops: 15 x Warriors 270pts
15 x Warriors 270pts

Heavy Support: 1 x Monolith 235pts
1 x Heavy destroyer 65pts

Fast: 3 x Destroyers 150pts
3 x Destroyers 150pts
3 x Destroyers 150pts

Total: 1490pts
(10 points to spare if I want my lord to have a warscythe biggrin )
41 Necrons: Phase Out = 10 models

To play this list I would run the Heavy as a complete Coward using him to snipe at squads or vehicles or Monsters. The Warriors I would run away from each other with my lord following one group and my monolith folowing the other And I will have the Destroyers firing heavy upon whichever thing decides to makes itself available as a target.
By the way, I also find that keeping your army bunched together is never a good idea! Run things wide if and use the Monolith however it is needed, after an accurate Particle whip can really hurt you opponants forces as can pulling a unit back of Necrons from CC! Afterall every one knows that Warriors and Destroyers Can not fight CC to at all!

Ok Ive dont a bit more with this army list, due to actually having the models and taking advice from others in the Tau thread. I am 24 pts over the 500 limit which needs to be taken care of. I can easily do that by downsizing my shas'o to a shas'el so it will be one point under 500. Either that or take away my sniper team and make some tricked out crisis suits and add more firewarriors to the two squads. I was hoping to fit in some stealths if I took out the sniper team but it wont work. I dont really want to downsize the commander, and Im not sure of the sniper drones abilities yet.

HQ:
Shas'o Crisis Suit Commander w/ Plasma Rifle, Missle Pod, HW Multitracker, Shield Generator: 130 pts

Elites:
Shas'ui Crisis Battlesuit w/ Team leader, Plasma Rifle, Missle Pod, HW Multitracker, Targetting Array: 77 pts

Shas'ui Crisis Battlesuit w/ Team Leader, Plasma Rifle, Missle Pod, HW Multitracker, Targetting Array: 77 pts

Troops:
8x Firewarriors: 80 pts

8x Firewarriors: 80 pts

Heavy Support:
Sniper Drone Team: 80 pts

Also, If I take out the heavy support I can fit in some gun drone fast attack units. Please, I need some good advice because I need to fit under 500 pts.

Well, you are a bit low on the actual troops, but I think that if the crisis suits are used properly it should be evened out.

Sniper drones are a mixed bag for most people, as they fire weapons that are not real sniper weapons per say. While they do pin, which is always good, they need to roll to hit as normal, which can be a real pain. But the AP 3 on the other hand, paired with the str. 6 that it boasts should make for some good kills.

On the other hand, if people know about the full strength of the rail rifle, they might target the drones first, prompting you to use the suits and fire warriors to hurt the enemy with their full attention.

It's best to downsize the commander, it's a small game and from a fluffy POV, a big a** commander wouldn't lead such patrols. Strictly speaking, some sacrifices are made, always. /dramatic departure

I see your point about the Commander.
However, since my primary opponent would be my cousin and his space marines, I would use the sniper drones to take out his tactical squads. Because of no armor save and the nice strength of the rail rifles it would be Instant Death for any normal marine. If the opponent wishes to shoot at my then they have to deal with the stealth field generators first.

Instant Death is only applied if the weapon strength is DOUBLE the target toughness. Marines are T4 and rail rifles are str. 6

Oh, for some reason I thought they had T3

Well, I knew, Its just that I had a brain fart. I dont have money to spend time looking through a space marine codex, however, and I can use my CSM codex to look up quick stats and improvements that I might be facing, since they are similar in concept, just different names (marines, terminators, and veteran and special upgrades)

I recently started with Space Marines, and have a small army consisting of

1 Librarian
15 "regular" marines (two sargeants, a marine with a rocket, and a marine with a flamer)
1 Land Speeder
1 Predator Destructor

Any ideas on how to improve this army?

You might want to get at least 5 more marines, or a Scout Squad. 3nodding

Hmm, how about I take both the 5 marines AND the scout squad? biggrin
PostPosted: Sun Jan 21, 2007 8:49 pm

That works too. whee

At this point, you should start planning out what kind of army you want. A fast army? An infantry-based army? A heavy-armored army?

Space marines are pretty expensive point-wise, so I guess an infantry-based army would give me more bang for my buck, right? biggrin

However, if I could only get one set right now for the space marines, what should I get?

(if its the scouts, how good are the sniper-equipped sets compared to the "regular ones"?)

I'm full of questions ^_^
