"I was expecting you not to have your boyfriend tagging along," Jeremy said, looking at her. "Actually, I was expecting you not to have a boyfriend at all."

Lee glanced up at him, a slightly unamused expression on her face. "And then what? You expected to win me over?"

"Something like that," Jeremy said. He gave Lee a look. "Come on, I'm a much better choice than that pikey. You don't want to be a social outcast, do you? I can give you the life you're supposed to have."

Lee looked down, pouting a bit. This boy didn't really even know her, and he was going off about possibly marrying her? "You sound just like my mother..." She shook her head a bit, looking off. "Why are you trying when you don't even know me? It's weird." This boy's end goal was marriage and marriage alone, it seemed, and she wanted nothing to do with it.

"I do know you. You just never paid any attention to me in school," Jeremy answered.
Rory came out of the bathroom, looking more pale than usual. "I miss anythin' good?" He leaned in the doorway, hand to his forehead. "Lee, I wanna gae home now."

Sighing and slightly irritated, she shot him a look. "You had a girlfriend..." Now she felt bad. "Look, I have my mind made up already. I know exactly where I'm gonna be in the future, and it may not sound like what I 'should have' to you, but it's what I want. I dun really care if I'll be an outcast. I'd be an outcast to these people if I worse ugly shoes to a dance. You seem like you might be a nice guy... some of the time... but you're going about it all wrong." She gave him another apologetic look, only just then noticing Rory was there. Trotting over to his side, she frowned, brushing the hair out of his face. "Let's go tell my dad we're going." She tugged at his free hand, pulling him down the hall. Turning to Jeremy once more and stopping, she shrugged. "Akira really liked you, by the way. You should try and work things out with her." She continued on, pulling Rory toward the stairs.

Jeremy's eyes narrowed, not liking to be told no or that he couldn't have something he wanted. He'd let it go for now, but he'd be talking with Mrs. Katan later. She knew more about this Rory than he did. Perhaps she knew of a way to be rid of him.
Rory nodded, shuffling after Lee. "I donnae think I ate anythin' that didnae agree wi' me. Tha' hot chocolate tasted kinda bitter, though. Is it supposed t' be like tha'?"

Eying Rory and opening her mouth to speak, Lee looked back at Jeremy. Biting her lip, she looked down and continued walking. "No, it's not." Her suspicions couldn't be true, that's just silly... They really did need to leave, didn't they?

Rory just nodded. "Maybe th' pool water made it taste funny then." He looked down at Lee, definitely looking a bit better, despite being so pale. "You alreet? Sounded like you an' Jeremy were haen a fight."

Yes, that was it, of course. The pool water. Holding his arm as they walked, Lee shook her head. "Not a fight, really. He was just thought he could win me over." She laughed a bit at the thought, holding Rory's arm tighter. As they made their way down the stairs, Lee asked a servant where she'd find her father, and soon started heading for his office.

"Win you o'er? He does know you're wi' me, reet?" Rory asked. He didn't understand the high society games at all.

Laughing uncomfortably, she nodded. "He knows. He just thought he was a better catch." Stupid boy. Before opening the door to her father's office, she pulled Rory down to kiss him, ensuring that she had no intention of giving Jeremy a second thought. Stepping through the door, she saw her father at his desk, writing something or another, and with the cigar box Rory'd carved for him sitting in the corner. So, they'd open the gifts while no one was looking...
The man looked up, smiling slightly. "Already done swimming?"
"Rory and I are gonna head home."
"Oh... Is this about Jeremy? I-I didn't know he was coming over, I think your mother --"
"It's not that." Lee smiled encouragingly, having realized her father had nothing to do with that boy when she saw the expression on his face at dinner. "Rory's not feeling too great. We think maybe he swallowed too much pool water."
The man chuckled lightly, "Ah. Well... before you go... I must have a word with you, Rory. It will only be a second." His smile had faded, and he looked down at the papers on his desk instead of looking his daughter in the eye.
"I'll go tell mother we're leaving, then." Lee kissed Rory on the cheek quickly before heading out, pretty certain she knew what was going to be said, judging by the look on her father's face. She would be very glad not to be in the room for that...

This time Rory did sit in one of the chairs in the study. "Sorry t' be takin' her home so soon. I just ain't feelin' t' good." He looked at the box. "Did Mrs. Katan like hers, too?"

"Hm?" Mr. Katan turned to see the box on his desk, suddenly sorry he'd opened them so soon. "Ah, well, in a way, yes. I don't think she knew the purpose of a music box, but it was very lovely either way. The carvings on both are lovely. You didn't have to get us anything that expensive..." He'd assumed Rory had bought them that way, having no knowledge of the boy's talent.
Clearing his throat, he looked back down at the desk, not really wanting to continue. "So... what you said... during dinner was... Please tell me I misunderstood your words..."

"They wasnae expensive. Simple boxes I got in th' market. Th' carvin's are mine," Rory said, settling back in the chair. "What part are you talkin' about? Wait. Oh. Aye, tha's true, sir. W' did tha', but w're bein' careful. I ain't stupid an' neither is Lee. W' donnae want kids reet now, so w're usin' protection."
