The boy stood up when she came out, looking her over. Jeans were . . . sexy on her. He walked to her and pulled her into a hug, unable to resist kissing her. "They look great. You look gorgeous."

She was surprised, to say the least, at his kiss, but giggled with embarrassment at his compliment, looking down to see for herself as best she could. "Really? I guess we should get them, then..." Biting her lip and looking back up at Rory, she gave him an appologetic expression. "You know, you're gonna have to stop spoiling me. I'll get used to it..."

"Bet you're already used t' bein' spoiled, eh? Think o' it like . . . my way o' welcomin' you t' th' clan," Rory said, smiling at her and sneaking another kiss. "There's a thing you should know, though. I'm not a didikai. A didikai man, sure, but not a didikai. I'm a didikoy. Tha' make sense? You're a didikoy, too, but you're also didikai. I'm not good at explainin' this sort o' thing. Most outsiders donnae realize tha' we have a singular o' what w' are."

Being spoiled was never a good thing, and Lee wasn't entirely sure if she should be insulted or just laugh. She decidedly went with the latter, simply because of his kiss. His correction, though, took a moment for her to fully understand, with her looking off as she put it together. She wished she'd been better with parts of speech, as it would have made the concept easier to understand if she had. "Oh, so... Ohhhhh. I'm embarrassed." She brought a hand to her mouth as she laughed at herself, half hiding her blushing face in Rory's chest.

"It's not really your fault, lass," Rory said, shrugging. "Like I said, most outsiders donnae know about tha'. You're not an outsider anymore, though. Gods forbid you make tha' mistake when you meet me mum. She'll respect you fae knowin' th' difference . . . and e'en moreso if'n she thinks you knew it before joinin' th' clan."
He went to sit back down in the chair. "I'll teach you t' be a proper didkoy, me bonny girl, but you cannae e'er tell me mum where you learned it. Prolly would do not t' tell anyone. It's not tha' I'll get in trouble, mind you, but th' clan will respect you more if they see tha' you know our ways an' are willin' t' live by them. It's not a hard life an' Keagan's a reet fair leader, but there's still a few tha' are very traditional, like me mum, tha' you're gonna hae a harder time gettin' accepted by."

She hadn't given any of that too much thought. She could get somewhat used to being viewed differently by everyone, even being somewhat unaccepted, but now that they were talking about Rory's mom, she couldn't say that she didn't care what they thought. Slouching and sulking to sit beside him, Lee looked at her knees and sighed, realizing it'd be more difficult than just telling her mother she wanted to live there. "What else should I know?"

Looking back at the sales lady, she blinked a few times before uttering a small, "Eh? Oh..." She rubbed the back of her neck embarrassed and went back to change, quickly coming back out in what she'd been wearing before, clothes in hand as she returned to Rory's side.

Rory stood up, watching the saleswoman as much as she was watching them. "Alreet, I'll tell you this at least. When w're not at Farstep, be a lot more aware o' what you're doin' 'cause you can be sure tha' th' outsiders are just waitin' fae th' chance t' catch us doin' somethin' tha' they can get us fae. Donnae gi' them a reason or a way t' screw you o'er, 'cause they will."
Sighing he looked down at her, stroking her cheek with long fingers. "You came from money an' influence, but you gave tha' up t' be wi' th' clan. These people here, they donnae know who you are or where you came from. They see a didikai girl an' a didikai boy, and all they can wonder is what w' might be tryin' t' steal. It's not fair, but it's th' sad truth o' it."

"B-but--" She sighed, pouting and shaking her head slightly with frustration. It wasn't fair, and it hit especially hard when she'd only seen respect and flattery from such people before this. She was spoiled, it was true, and adjusting to being disliked for nothing wouldn't come easily. She looked down and mumbled, "Maybe we just shouldn't leave Farstep that much, then..." Wait, people didn't like her there, either...

"I already so rarely do," Rory said quietly, moving to the register with the clothes Lee had picked out. He held out the money to the woman who first just looked at it as if Rory was handing her a dead rat and then recoiled at the sight of his strange fingers. "Just keep th' change." He got the clothes and left.

Swallowing her pride and ignoring the woman as best she could, Lee trailed after Rory, concern showing in her face. "Hey, ya know, we should prolly head back now. I mean, I'm kinda in the mood for cotton candy." She tugged at her new scarf and smiled up at him, hoping to make him feel even slightly better.

She smiled halfheartedly back, thinking to herself that he shouldn't have to have gotten used to being treated poorly. Lee stood beside Rory as he looked at the soda machine, mentioning quietly, "Anything but root beer is fine with me."

"You donnae like root beer?" Rory laughed, buying her a bottle of strawberry flavored soda and getting a creme soda for himself. He leaned back against the machine, taking a long swallow from the bottle. "You really wanna gae back, or are you just feelin' weird now seein' how th' other half lives?" It was a completely innocent question, the boy watching her with his colorless eyes.
